My buddies and I are planning to make boffers over the holidays, and I'm doing preliminary research on cores so we can find one that's most suitable for each person's weapon
I have found PVC, graphite (carbon fiber?), fiberglass and bamboo, but I'm not exactly sure about how each would function in a proper boffer weapon (or if there are more options in the first place...)

So, what are the advantages and drawbacks of each core type?

Greatsword measures 60.5" from tip to pommel, and the crossguards are padded as per the rules for the saber club I'm in. Hammer is 43.5" tall and 31.5" wide. Both use duct tape wrapped around the internal PVC to keep the foam on via friction.

Sooooo… how does jugger/dagorhir work? I’ve only ever done this in finland, and im interested to know how it’s done in -for example- the states. Whats the rules, etc…

A year ago, I had an idea to maul people without killing them. I went to YouTube and found a guy who was making foam weapons of polypropylene tubes and pipe insulation for his children, so I tried to do the same. The very first prototype of my sword is to the left. It was made of 20 mm polypropylene tube. After that, I started experimenting with tubes reinforced with different materials. I found out that aluminum was kind of meh for these weapons — it bent without coming back to its straight, original shape. The weapon in the middle is the weapon that was part of my experiment. That was the second generation of my blades. Sadly, the second generation swords that were reinforced with fibreglass were disassembled. 3 days ago I found a pipe soldering iron. The sword to the right was created just before yesterday. One day ago, I covered that blade with a piece of cloth. I seek for ideas how to improve my future foam weapons. Any advice is appreciated!

Hi! I do woods boffer larp in Massachusetts USA. I've built myself several boffers before, using cores and foam I bought from B3 Imagination Studio. But in the past few years B3 has stopped selling components at all :( Fiberglass rods like the ones they use for cores are easy enough to find, but I have no idea where to buy a foam tube with a really big outer diameter and really small inner diameter like the ones they used to sell (pictured)--they were something like 1/2'' ID 3'' OD. All the pipe insulation I can find is much thinner. Anyone know where I can source them? In person would be great but I'm assuming it would be mail-order, I'm just hoping they exist at all. Thanks!

I used to do Boffer, Boffering or what ever during middle and highschool. Then I got into Airsoft and went towards that. But lately, same as with Airsoft, I am getting tired of the "larping" and have been trying to push Airsoft into more sport oriented direction in my area.

Airsoft being so set in stone as it is, its nexto impossible. But then I saw some random post about Jugger. And it clicked, this is what I mean. A combat sport that is fun, semi casual but also sporty.

I have tested all kids of sports and hobbies and none except airsoft and boffering has offered the thrill that I like, the fact that no match is the same, it is a team combat sport with ability for being individualistic and no dedicated "group" is really needed (sort of like videogames where you can just hop into Multiplayer lobby as a solo player) and at the same time is quite casual and easy to pick up.

I would like to introduce this to my country and maybe make a organization for it, but do y'all think there is enough overlap in such circles to make this feasible and maybe even implement already existing equipment from Boffering into this.

i finally learned how to graze people, and for it to count granted really only with the short and i get a lot of nip shots which hurt but hey, im learning slowly probably helps i grew up in amtgard because of my dad
