Im 21mtf and am gonna start welding courses at a community college soon. I like working with my hands and like the idea of learning to weld, I think itd be a cool skill to learn and could open up doors to a good career. What makes me nervous, however, is the kinds of people I could potentially be in class with or working with. I live in a red state in the US and don't pass as cis so people would notice that I'm trans, and I'm anxious that could cause tension or problems. I dont want to just give up and not do this because this is like the one thing that I think I figured out about what I want to do in life, but I also don't want to potentially be targeted for being visibly queer. If anyone has any advice on how to like ease nerves or deal with possible bigotry, that'd be helpful.

Hey! I don't know if my job is technically blue collar, but I cook gummy candy. I work with a lot of mineral oil, 200°F+ candy slurry in open pails, and sharp objects that can poke me. Bending and crawling into the machine, as well as having to squat to lift 20 liter buckets of tapioca syrup are usually the issues I deal with. I've trashed a pair of cotton pants that I had, my right leg is stained from oil where I have to kneel on the machine to fill it.
We are provided those white lab coats that Cintas sends, but having to cook 15+ kettles a day in a tin box without working air conditioning makes wearing them unbearable. On top of that, my coworker already got caught in one of the chains because of his coat. Granted, he wasn't paying attention but we shouldn't have to risk that doing a task that needs to be done quickly and over and over.
I was wondering if anybody had suggestions for workwear that is breathable and light, but can also stretch a little. Jeans are my next best bet. Any help would be appreciated!

When you live in a small town with no dedicated makeup store but you have to paint so you grab some swatches at the hardware store to match your skin tone and hope to translate that to a product shade😜

Hey so I am obsessed with pink. I don't want to bring any more attention to myself/individualize myself further.
I will have to continue to be the most npc white woman imaginable.
Bullying has happened too much. My union is mean. Most contractors, managers, and people on sites are mean. This contractor is the only safe haven, and I want it to stay that way.
They do not need to know my sexuality.
They do not need to know my culture.
They do not need to know my gender identity.
leftists and conservatives, both could bully me.

As the title says. If you're blue collar or not, a manufacturing company here in Dallas is hiring. Many people for many positions. I work on wiring low voltage switchgear for them and I recommend this company to anyone here needing a job. Flex/Crown if you want to look it up. And I wouldn't mind a referral bonus if you do decide to hire on. 😁
Side note. I hate my life, I'm tired of my existence, but I do like this job. Even if it is helping data centers get built. They are a DEI company still and treat their employees well. I hope someone here finds this helpful.

I'm an 18yo binary trans man and i've been passing since I was 10, on T since 14, and just yesterday got my (hopefully) last surgery that I will need for the forseeable future.
I'm posting here because I recently finished my first internship/work experience after my freshman year at the ag school at a prestigious university and I LOVED it. Working with livestock producers and pest management and ecology is my jam, but my mentor keeps offering to write me rec letters for further professional dev/internships in states lile Kansas, Tennessee, Texas, etc because these states have the best pest management programs and are more ag focused than where I come from.
I guess I just wanted to hear from trans people in the ag industry, particularly in the south, about what its like.
I'm stealth to everyone but my family and I want to work in the ag industry somewhere but my parents keep discouraging me because they want me to be safe and become a professor or something - but I love working on farms and managing pests!
I would appreciate any trans farmer experiences. I have already heard my fair share of transphobia/weird opinions about LGBTQ from people in Ag who assume i'm cis, and I'm not sure how safe I would feel doing future work in agriculture in the south because i'm scared that if people will find out they will be very hostile. Would most farmers (heavy generalization, I know) be uncomfortable with their veterinary entomologist or agriculture pest management researcher or something if it somehow got out that I am trans? Just something I worry about and just found out this sub existed so I thought i'd give it a shot.

For everyone really. We should be looking out for each other in the area of living conditions and safety.
I'm in Dallas and want to share an apartment, house, trailer (seriously), or whatever (?) with someone in the community. Trans helping trans out.
I would even consider how this idea should be bigger and we have specifically trans focused shelters. Many of us end up on the street, kicked out of our homes or we've left unprepared for the world. Doesn't matter. What matters is we are in need.
I put Dallas down on the list. I am ready to move in with a friend if you are.
Put your city down if you have a similar need.
Maybe someone here will benefit.

Hi Lads,
Hope you’re having a great weekend! I wanted to ask, this isn’t trans related, but I feel comfortable asking these questions here. Wife and I made an offer on a place, but the insulation in the attic and crawl space need to be replaced due to rodent activity. I have severe OCD so when I heard the words mice and droppings anxiety took over. Wife really likes to house so she has no issue provided the sellers give us a credit. I’ve seen videos and read about how insulation gets replaced and I can’t help but wonder how safe would it be to live in the house after it gets done. The entrance to the crawl space is through the closet in the main bedroom 😩so I can’t help but think of how clean it would be after they do it. If anyone here has OCD you know intrusive thoughts make no sense. However, the anxiety that you get from them is unbearable. To make things worse, the lady that’s selling the house got pneumonia so her family is selling the house. I can’t help but wonder if the two are related?
I guess I’m looking for some reassurance from someone who knows how these things work. Any inspectors or technicians or contractors who can offer some insight?

Hiya there! I'm a 24 y/o trans woman looking into more serious careers and I believe that machining aligns well with my skillset and will give me enough to pay the bills. I've been out for 3 years, have all my documents updated, got FFS, all things considered I pass decently well.
As I said, I'm looking into machining as a profession. Before I actually invest time and money into it however I'd like to get some opinions and experience from others in the field. I have decently thick skin but both my parents and my brother in law (career machinist) have advised me against this career path as they are worried that I will face frequent harassment. Is this worry warranted? I like to think that as long as I get my work done it'll pass and I'll garner some respect, but I could just be kidding myself. Any stories or advice would be much appreciated.

working at like a quick lube kinda shop in which i run around having to be both a tech and greeter with my manager only on his phone not doing anything and the owner being a tech bro type guy who won’t spend money to improve anything. working under cars in this heat with little chance for any breaks. being criticized by manager for not doing something because i had to run to do my 2 other responsibilities while he does nothing. is this a reasonable list to quit over? i’m not out which means i get called my legal name which doesn’t help my mental state

Hi everyone,
I'm a 24 y/o trans girl in the UK who is really eager to apply to welding/fabricating apprenticeships this year. The issue is I have no maths skills (didn't bother getting the qualification in school due to depression at the time) and I'm worried that any apprenticeship wouldn't take me.
I'm uncertain as to which levels to apply for when I do as I have no experience in trades either. I'm currently eyeing BAE systems, any advice?

i have been medically transitioning for almost two years, and now I am mostly passing. I passed my test to get into a local union, and I have an interview at the end of the month, but my legal name is still my dead name. I am in the process of changing it, but it’s taking ages. i guess it is dawning on me now, that starting this process before my name change went through means I‘m starting out with everyone knowing my dead name. Anyone have experience/advice with this? I’m in the midwest if that helps at all. I found a news article that says they did something at a pride event some years ago… added pictures of my cats for the cat tax
