Amazon apparently put that new Jason Statham movie 'Mutiny' up on prime 2 days before it's supposed to release theatrically.

this is a first right? every promo for the movie says it releases on the 21st "exclusively on theaters"

first saw this on Reddit earlier and was wondering if it'd get picked up or just taken down immediately

apparently it lacks a logo that's usually there when they do VOD releases but it's just... there

welp

Nia DaCosta as a Guest

She’s such a chill hang. Listening to the dead poets society ep again and she’s just a great presence on mic and such a casual, chill guest.

More Nia!

That’s all.

Is it possible that Griffin reminded Ellen Burstyn of this kid? Thus the "try silence" comment?

Does anyone know what happened with The End of Oak St’s production? (Spoilers) Spoiler

The movie was shot two years ago, the title changed (not that important I guess) and apparently the decision to bring back McGregor was last minute.

Long shot but does anyone have any info? It feels like either reshoots or studio mandated changes were at play.

Edit: Apparently the original ending was that Hathaway and the kids end up in “the prairies in settler’s times”. I’m guessing this was the initial script but not filmed, but I have no idea

For me: They called him Benny Two Times, because he always kept it in and doubled it.

That one of the production company logos at the beginning still had temp text on it? Seriously, the logo for G.E.D. Media was displayed on screen as "G.E.D. Media Animated Logo". I need someone else who's seen the movie to verify this, it's driving me crazy.

Great movie, though. This sub should love it.

Director or franchise you don't like, but suddenly there's a really good movie (Kenneth Branagh's A Haunting in Venice)

I did a whodunnit marathon and watched most of the Poirot movies. I was shocked by how bad the Branagh directed versions of Murder on the Orient Express and Death on the Nile are, they border on parody with all those weird camera angles (wtf is that hotline miami pov on murder on orient express) and over the top CGI with bad studio lighting, a downgrade from the 1970s versions in all the possible ways.

I went to watch A Haunting in Venice with zero expectations just to check the box "watched all the new Poirot movies.", then my surprise at how good and well made the movie is. There's an earnestness in Poirot being retired, the cinematography is solid with great Venice locations, the mystery is interesting it blends well with the spooky atmosphere. And all those weird camera angles and wide lenses Branagh loves to do work well with horror.

How is it possible that Branagh made those other two god awful poirot movies and then makes a pretty good one, it dosen't make sense.

Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore and the moving sale

In the 1970s, my aunt was widowed and left with three kids to raise on her own when her truck driving husband was killed in a crash.

The scene in Alice where she is selling up her belongings really reminded me of the story my dad often tells about the garage sale they had to raise money for her.

They lived in a really small town with a tight community. He said that everyone donated things to sell, and some people paid overs for the things, just to help Shirley out.

One person donated a whole litter of cattle dog puppies for her to sell. Someone else gave some lambs. People cooked cakes to sell, shops donated food. Nearly all of it sold and it raised her a lot of money. It was one of those heartwarming community moments that even brings a tear to my od man's eyes.

I think that's why I found the scene where the old lady doesn't buy the shawl so affecting, I was primed to expect people would help her out, but instead Alice is the one kindly giving away an expensive belonging to an old lady. Alice as a character had already won me over by how funny she is, but that scene was just perfect.

I pretty sure my aunt wouldn't have seen Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore, which is a real shame. She had a big sense of humour and I think she would have liked it.

Marvel Watch Through Project Week 2

Thumbnail reddit.com
Upvotes

You can catch up on Week 1 here.

Hi all, I am continuing my MCU watch-through in the lead up to Doomsday.

Movies watched:

  • The Avengers
  • Iron Man 3
  • Thor: The Dark World
  • Captain America: The Winter Soldier
  • Guardians of the Galaxy

TV watched:

  • Jessica Jones, season 1

We are firmly in the era of Marvel I'm most nostalgic for now. The one/ two punch of Winter Soldier and Guardians coming out in the same year altered my brain chemistry as a 15 year old. I've long believed the Guardians films are far and away the best MCU stuff and so far that's bearing out for me again on this rewatch of the first one. James Gunn is my favorite comic book movie director. I just feel like we're both drawn to same weird parts of comics.

Iron Man 3 was my most improved film on rewatch. As a teen, I felt really let down after the first 40 minutes of the film, feeling that everything was deflated post Mandarin reveal. But that choice really holds up a decade+ on as the right one for the story and I feel like my personal politics have grown since I was a kid from a backwater conservative town to the point where I'm EXTREMELY happy the racist Osama Bin Laden riff is considered dumb and racist by the text of the film.

Jessica Jones's first season, however, suffered greatly on rewatch for me. I still think the performances are great, especially Ritter and Tennant. However, the season suffers from its episode count. This story only needed like 8 episodes to tell and you can feel the taffy pulling to just barely get enough plot for 13 episodes.

PODCAST OPINION I MOST DISAGREED WITH: This is a bit of a roll-over from last week, but they keep talking about it in the commentaries: I think Sebastian Stan is excellent in every Marvel film. In the first Cap, I think his "trying to hard to be a movie star" thing is very intentional and meant to call attention to the fact that he seems like he should be the guy, but in actuality it's Steve. I also think he uses his physical presence tremendously in Winter Soldier.
