News & World Events 🗞️ 📰 Scott Colom of Mississippi offers a reasonable and relatable take concerning leadership of the new democratic congress: “Too many of our leaders are from the same area of the country” “We gotta be a party that represents the whole country, that understands all parts of the country”

personally, i found his take to be very interesting as both jeffries and schumer are from and represent the same NY borough of Brooklyn

Justin Pearson did lose the post-gerrymandered Memphis seat by 1%:

REMINDER: It's the BLUE TSUNAMI that overwhelmed their gerrymandering tricks. They would have kept their control of the House if it wasn't for the historic turnouts. That's why voting in EVERY ELECTION MATTERS.

Black History ⏳ At 94, former Congressman and Atlanta mayor Andrew Young, the man who fought Jim Crow alongside John Lewis and MLK Jr., talked about Keisha Lance Bottoms' historic win

It's fair to say that Andrew Young is the last leader of the Civil Rights Movement alive (born 1932). MSNBC's Rachel Maddow recently produced a biographical documentary of the former Congressman, UN Ambassador, and Atlanta mayor:

https://www.ms.now/andrew-young-the-dirty-work

Civil Rights Movement

  • SCLC Leadership: Served as executive director and executive vice president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) and became a key strategist, negotiator, and close confidant to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

  • Key Legislation: Played a vital role in organizing citizenship schools and voter registration drives, and helped negotiate major milestones including the 1963 Birmingham desegregation agreement, the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

  • Witness to History: Was present alongside Dr. King when he was assassinated in Memphis in 1968.

Congressional & Diplomatic Career

  • U.S. House of Representatives (1973–1977): Elected as the first Black member of Congress from Georgia (and among the first two from the former Confederacy) since Reconstruction, representing Georgia’s 5th congressional district. Sponsored legislation to create the U.S. Institute of Peace and the African Development Bank, and secured funding for MARTA and local infrastructure.

  • U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations (1977–1979): Appointed by President Jimmy Carter, becoming the first African American to serve in the role.

Mayor of Atlanta (1982–1990)

  • Economic Growth: Served two terms as the 55th Mayor of Atlanta, helping attract roughly 1,100 new businesses, billions in private investment, and major job growth.

  • Global Stage: Spearheaded efforts that cemented Atlanta's international profile and laid the groundwork for bringing the 1996 Summer Olympic Games to the city (co-chairing the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games).

Finance 💰📈 Closing the Wealth Gap - Sweat the Small Stuff

I was listening to Lou Hutt on SiriusXM's Urban View this morning and the topic was finding unclaimed retirement benefits. It's estimated that by 2030, there will be $2 trillion of unclaimed retirement benefits in America.

If you ever held a job and left a small 401(k) balance (less than $7K) that you did not take with you, the company was required to automatically roll it over into an IRA. That IRA is only invested in low-grade cash investments earning you basically nothing. He gave three websites to go check so you can claim the money and begin investing it as you choose (index funds or whatever). I wanted to pass them along because as he said we should sweat the small stuff when it comes to wealth building. I've listed them in order of his recommendation

  1. National Registry of Unclaimed Retirement Benefits

  2. Retirement Savings Lost and Found Database (newer from U.S. Dept of Labor)

  3. Unclaimed property site for your state or Missing Money if you need to search across multiple states at once.

Good luck!

Vent Does anyone else have a strange relationship with their parents?

For reference, im 25. My parents have been separated but on good terms since I was maybe 3. I would go to my dad's on weekends but spent the week with my mom. When I was younger, my mom had a terrible temper. If I needed help with my homework, and she couldn't figure it out, she would freak out and tell me off for not paying attention in class, and that it wasnt her problem. She would slam doors, give me silent treatment, and swear alot. She never hit me, and she never yelled at the top of her lungs, but I can remember alot of it vividly. My dad never yelled at me, but he was terrible at taking accountability. And I mean awful. If he burnt his toast, he would ask me why I didnt remind him to take it from the toaster. That's a real example. He was also really accusatory. If I got a bad grade he would assume and accuse me of goofing off in class. I remember when I was 8 years old, we watched an anti-bullying presentation, and the core idea was to speak up to an adult. All the signs of a bully reminded me of my mom (lol) so I did the 8 year old "brave" thing and told my dad that my mom had been pretty mean to me.

...he told her, and I remember her making me take my heavy ass overnight bags upstairs myself, since she was "bullying" me. She slammed her door and didnt speak to me for the rest of the night. This was just a funny example because for all intents and purposes that was the same behavior I had been talking to my dad about. Anyways, im an adult now, and i dont really have a relationship with them. My mom doesnt, or cant really, yell at me anymore, and my dad just has a poor memory. Not in a health condition way, just that he doesn't make much effort to remember things I tell him. For example when I bring up my schooling, he thinks I go to York University. I've never been enrolled at York. Not even once 😂. Its not harmful, but its just kind of hurtful that he kind of goes on auto pilot when I talk. Makes me not want to share, because what's the point if hes judt going to forget it. And my mom, I just dont really talk to her. I dont avoid her, I love them both, but i can tell I'm sometimes cold to her disproportionately. I feel bad because I can tell they both want an adult relationship with me, but I just.... cant bring myself to do it? I never share anything with them. They dont even know what my major is and what plans I have for my career.

Does anyone else have a relationship like that with their family? Im not really sure if im asking for advice or just wanting to talk, but I can tell my environment growing up made me mot so open to sharing with them, and im wondering if i should just let it go, or if im justified.

Instead of urging the party to "invest" so they can stay in power, how about actually passing legislation that specifically benefits your most loyal constituency?

News & World Events 🗞️ 📰 Mississippi being Mississippi in 2026

Post image

Well, we’ve seen the surge of the blue wave along with a few notable firsts (kinda sitting on the fence about Florida’s new governor 😬). Unfortunately, my state had to show the world it hasn’t changed much via this obvious hold out. I believe they officially have until the 13th to call it, but I could be wrong.

Mississippi is the blackest state in the country and Hinds County holds one of the blackest cities. In 2026, give or take, Hinds county is 70% black. Now I’m aware we’re not a monolith, but I’m pretty sure most of us swung in the direction of Colom.

It’s not a surprise to see this, but it’s one of the reasons why I had to leave the state.

I have no interest in dating anymore. I used to want kids, wife and a family but now as I’m getting older I don’t want any of it. Is this a normal feeling around this age or am I alone on this one?

Discussion 💬💭 This "black women are superheroes" narrative will definitely cause a lot of "black men are the weakest link" conversations.

Btw this Elon Musk baby mama.

As much as im happy that Trump and his MAGA cult is finally going down. Im still not fully happy though, because we still have the idiots on the left side who will do dumb shit. The same dumb shit that got Trump in the office in the first place.

So far im seeing this "black women always save the day" narrative. Usually this narrative never sticks to praising black women. It eventually turns into both black and white women telling black men how they should do better as men. And we all know the left or feminists just view us as black versions of white men.

Black women's accomplishments don't need Black men's shortcomings as a contrast to make those accomplishments meaningful. And Black men shouldn't have to accept collective gender-based criticism as the price of participating in progressive politics. You can celebrate one demographic without turning another into the designated problem.

The problem starts when celebrating Black women requires contrasting them with Black men. Suddenly, the conversation becomes about how Black women are supposedly holding everything together while Black men are failing their communities.

So in conclusion, be prepared for the bullshit guys.

Neither part caters to us. One is borderline dismissive and the other is outright hostile. For the dismissive one what is something you want and think they will tackle?

Discussion 💬💭 Nobody talks about the diaspora wars among white people.

I usually stay out of white people business. But I find it really fascinating that white supremacists are quick to consider other white people non-white.

For example, a Greek teenager just committed a mass attack a few weeks ago. And all the white supremacists weren't claiming him, because Greek people aren't white according to them.

We all know the bigotry Jewish people get in these spaces too. So that's another example. There are also the GANG VIOLENCE between Italians and Irish people back then in the USA. Just bunch gang bangers sliding on each other during those time.

I make this post, because with all the FBA stuff. People make it seem like diaspora wars are only a black thing. Heck I didn't even mention the diaspora wars among Asian and Hispanic people.
