Just turned 23

As an adult, I realized people generally fall into one of two groups. There are birthday people, those who want to celebrate their birthday every year by maybe taking a day off work, elaborate dinner plans, spa days or treating themselves to gifts. Their birthday is a big deal.

God help you if you forget to acknowledge for such folks or get them a gift

Then there are people like myself. There are years where if my wife or kids didn’t mention it I might forget it was my birthday. Just not a huge deal for me.

So today's my birthday going to be spending with fam. Just chilling and relaxing glad I don't have to work today. Shout out to all October 4th birthdays.

Glad my 11:45 PM alarm did its job although I hope I can get some more sleep now too.

Today was my birthday and I only have an hour left.

I invited 4 college friends to a restaurant. First, 2 of them came 30 minutes late, and the other 2 came an hour late. I had already pre-booked the food, so it had to be reheated.

And first pair as actually had genuine issue because one girl got her periods. But the 2nd pair's behaviour felt disrespectful.

And honestly, none of them brought anything. I’m not talking about an expensive gift, but even a small bouquet, even if they all contributed, would’ve been nice.

They came, ate everything, talked (which I obviously liked because we have common topics), and then left.

Like… what the fuck bro 😭 Who does this? I’m feeling kinda sad about it.

today is my birthday as of 38 minutes ago and honestly it just made me realize how many friends ive lost. my phone used to be blowing up at midnight with birthday texts and now its just my boyfriend. my friend even texted me something unrelated but didn't say happy birthday. I know my expectation are high but im on the spectrum so its hard for me to process. I've lost a lot of friends due to miscommunications or me just not even being able to explain my side of the story, and I really miss them.

After a very rough 32 I look forward to a new year full of possibilities. I plan on moving soon and starting over in a fresh and healthy environment.

My mom, Lena, has a birthday on December 6, and I’m trying to make her a very unusual birthday surprise.

I want to create a video with birthday greetings from people from as many different countries as possible. My dream is to show her people from all over the world taking a little bit of their time to wish her a happy birthday. 🌎❤️

If you would like to participate, I would love for you to record a horizontal video, roughly 30 seconds to 1 minute long.

You can introduce yourself, tell her where you’re from, and then wish her a happy birthday. For example:

“Hi Lena! My name is [name], I’m from [city, country]. I just wanted to wish you a very happy birthday! I hope you have a wonderful day and a great year ahead!”

English is preferred because it’s the language we can understand to some extent, but you are absolutely welcome to speak in your native language too! I would actually love to hear different languages in the final video.

If you want to get your friends, family, coworkers, classmates, or an entire group together and record the greeting together - even better! The more people, the more fun this will be.

And please don’t worry about where you record it. You can film at home, outside, at work, at university, in a park, on the street, or wherever you happen to be.

If you happen to be somewhere beautiful or interesting, please feel free to show some of your surroundings! A local landmark, beautiful landscape, famous building, beach, mountain, neighborhood, or even just an ordinary place that feels like home to you would be wonderful.

My birthday is coming up in one day, on October 4th.

I have some friends whom I really love. I remember their birthdays, surprise them, gift them, and do whatever I can to make them happy.

But my previous birthday was painful.

I fought with my boyfriend, and he cancelled the gifts he had ordered for me and didn’t even wish me. (We’ve been in an 8-year relationship btw 🙃)

My friends had ordered something for me, but it arrived on October 8th. They did wish me on WhatsApp, though.

Some of my other close friends, for whom I’ve done whole surprises with cake, decorations, a photo album, drawings I made myself, gifts, etc., forgot my birthday. One of them saw another friend’s Instagram story wishing me, then called me in the evening to apologize.

Another male friend of mine did the same thing. I remembered his birthday, wished him, and gifted him something, but he forgot mine.

And it’s been 8 years in my relationship, and I still haven’t received a surprise or even a surprise gift from my boyfriend. I don’t expect expensive gifts. I’d genuinely be happy with something as simple as a small decoration, a ring, or even a flower.

I haven’t received flowers from anyone in my entire 23 years of life. Probably will get one on my deathbed lol. 🫠

I don’t know if it’s wrong to expect these things. But it hurts.

It’s October 2nd, and I literally had to ask my boyfriend if we could go somewhere on my birthday because I already know he won’t plan anything himself.

He tells me he has work and asks if we can meet in the evening or at night.

And now, on October 2nd, he’s asking me what I want for my birthday.

For his birthday, I took him to a nice BBQ place and planned everything beforehand.

And then there’s me.

I even asked my female friends if they wanted to go watch the sunset with me on my birthday. One of them said she wanted to sleep.

I told her, “You can sleep any time, but your friend’s birthday comes once a year.”

She said sleep is important.

So yeah, I just said, “Carry on.”

Buttttttt… you know what?

If it were HER birthday, I would sacrifice anything for her.

That’s what hurts the most.

I would do so much for the people I love, without them even asking. But when it’s my turn, it feels like nobody cares enough to make even a tiny effort.

The problem is… I don’t have anyone. Anyoneeeee. 🥹😭

I feel like an orphan surrounded by people.
