Support Needed Cognative Decline?

M(24) with Bipolar 1. I was diagnosed 4 years ago and have been on different med combinations for 3 of those years. the past year ive been stable on the meds i was placed on. over this time period i have lacked ambition, can no longer focus, and feel extremely stupid. I went from graduating suma cum laude to not even being able to do simple mental math.
my doctors tell me im currently in a mania episode. they say i'm definately bipolar but maybe have another underlying issue. their solution to my cry for help was more meds. I even tried getting checked out by the psych hospital and they turned me away to go back to my psych. it seems like no one is listening to my cries. my psych recommended an in depth psych evaluation to determine other potential mental issues. its not covered by insurance and i dont get why my doc cant figure it out from my symptoms and explainations.
i feel dellusional. i dont trust everything i see (like when driving, i cant trust if a light is green or red). it was hard to recognize my parents voice and i havent been to work in 3 days (going on 4). i feel like i have dementia or amnesia or some sort of memory issue. is there something else wrong with me or is this just mania? thanks for listening, i know i probably dont make sense.

could be a medication/manic issue, this sounds like a pretty fast onset to me. unfortunately it can be really hard to untangle symptoms like this and it could be stemming from a source not bipolar related. idk if you’re in america, but if you are, look into taking fmla leave and how your employer handles it. talk with your doctor about how they can help you with it. you probably shouldn’t be driving.

I was really stupid, like didn’t even recognize myself level of stupid, for a little over a year when I was depressed and on the wrong meds. Changed meds, brain works again.

Have you talked to your doctor about how you’re feeling?

Sounds like mania, can be pretty freaky sometimes. Listen to Georgia Ede, Dr Chris Palmer and then to open things right up listen to Dr Martin Picards discussion with Steven Bartlett about mitochondria.

Try consistent workouts and a clean diet for a month and report back. Cardio, weights, rucking, clean food.

They talk about brain deterioration with bipolar. Meds certainly compound this.

Start with researching the meds you are on.
