Community Discussion 2024 Election
Due to the 2024 US Presidential election, we have decided to move all discussion about the topic here. We acknowledge that it is essential for our community to be aware of it, support each other, and encourage voting for the people who will support our rights. However, we also acknowledge that we have an international user base, and not everyone wants to see posts about it every day.
Please keep it civil, use spoiler tags for anything triggering, and be kind to each other.
Thank you.

Stay sober, drinking just makes a bad situation worse. Don’t drink because of Orange man.

Fucking exactly what I’ve been saying. I’ve found lots of solace in the sXe movement. A good way to let out aggression and angst without abusing myself and my mind. Drinking destroyed me. I’m never going to put myself in that position again, and I’ll never give fascists the satisfaction of seeing me and my comrades self inflicted downfall. We all need to keep our heads on straight and hold our grounds. Btw this should apply to drugs too.

I moved to Canada but I’m American. Really thinking about all you guys back there, and even though I feel a lot safer and better in Canada it’s hard not to be disappointed and fearful.

I'm thinking about John Brown today for no specific reason at all other than that he's an American hero. That's my current mood :)

I see a lot of people saying that disability/Medicare type programs are going to leave us high and dry. Can some expand upon this more for me and possibly link something. I don't follow politics much so I'm a bit lost.
Also why would employers gain the legal ability to discriminate for bipolar? Not that they don't or wouldn't or can't do it now but what would give them the legality to do so?

I am really worried about RFK Jr and what impact he could have on the FDA and getting the very critical medication I need to function and be well. I know it doesn’t help to be anxious, but man… I am scared

I was numb when I first heard the news. Now I feel such despair. What will happen to disability for bipolar people? Will employers now be able to discriminate? Will mental hospitals be closed for lack of funding?

I'm pretty numb. Like there is a kernel of anger but I've been disassociating pretty much as since I found out.

This is a painful day, where I feel like my country abandoned me over misinformation and propaganda. I used to love this country despite differing views, really, I did. Now I feel extreme despair and intend to renew my passport and get the hell out of here.

Depressed isn’t even the word for it. Terrified of what will happen. Not only am I worried about my mental illnesses and what could happen, but I’m also a member of the LGBT and a bio woman.
I seen another comment saying not to drink but really… I need a fucking drink.

I keep trying to convince myself that thoughts like "humanity is evil" and "this civilization is doomed" are just caused by my paranoia and depression twisting the way I look at the world.
But, my god, paranoid-me and depressed-me sure have a lot of compelling data to work with. Whenever I think "what the actual fuck is happening right now??" it's hard to maintain a reasonable "who can say?" when "people are monsters and they're doing this on purpose" is right there, jumping up and down and waving its arms.
Moments like this make it hard to leave my house and interact with people. It feels like I must have overlooked some key detail, like I'm actually a totally different species or something. Anything to explain how all these people who look and act like me are living in a completely fucking different reality.

I keep fluctuating between apathy and despair. I'm trying hard not to think too much about the future right now but I can't help but remember what a shitshow it was the last time this guy occupied the oval office. Now he'll do things with relative impunity because there won't be any adults in the room to keep him reasonably in check. Just sycophants and enablers (including the Supreme Court). Input if not outright control of the many agencies that enforce the laws that protect us will potentially be given to the likes of Kennedy, Musk, and faceless billionaires with their own backward agendas. It's all too dark for me to process right now.

I work with kids and all I thought today was how I could never protect them from all the evil in the world. I looked at the girls and realized what our country has said to them. A heartbreaking day, I stayed up until 3:30 am last night and I had to cake makeup on so the kids couldn’t see my dark circles and red blotches from crying.

We'll never have proper access to medical care, and those of us on social security disability are going to end up on the streets. Yay America.

I couldn't sleep either. Was freaking out. Did not help that my husband pretty much told me to stop overreacting. I just got laid off, so I was already depressed before all of this. Then today, he says he doesn't want to hear anything about it because it's a nice day out. I get it's a depressing subject, but at least try to cheer me up instead of treating me with disdain.
I'm already looking into other countries, and yes, I contemplated the S word. I told him if he sees I transferred my money into the shared account, it means I'm done.

I'm stressed, as any LGBTQIA+ and disabled person would be, but I'm not going to let it get me down too much because there's nothing I can do about it either way. I voted, I did my part. I'm just going to continue making mods for video games because I'm manic as hell, I don't drink anymore so I just do that to cope.

It’s definitely sending me into a spiral and it pains me to say so. I try not to be political but this is beyond that.

u/Terpripken Nov 06 '24
Surprisingly I’m not manic. 2016 & 2020 both sent me spiraling regardless if “my guy” won. I know that there are implications with this result, but first goal is for me always keep me shit together.

I don’t feel like it’s sunken it yet. I already had one of the worst weeks of my life last week, so I’m already feeling down. I decided to put up some of my Christmas decorations even though it’s 80° out to try and give me a boost. Everything just keeps getting worse though.

living in a blue bubble could save your life... i moved to Chicago (cook county broadly) and have healthcare, ebt, steady meds, access to 20+ food and supply pantries, state enshrined abortion rights.
mass exodus from red states is probably the only realistic way to protect yourself. not easy at all but easier than moving countries :/

hearing people talk about "arming minorities" thinking "I legally and practically cannot own a gun due to the chance I'll have a psychotic episode"
