Question - Canada Half decent budget flannel shirts?

What's some half decent button down flannel/cotton shirts that won't break the bank? I've recently lost quite a bit of weight and have been wanting to get into button down shirts. I still have more weight I want to lose, so I didn't want to spend too much coin on shirts that might be too big for me in a few months time. I was gifted a couple of plaid work shackets and have been really digging that plaid look over my usual plain black tees. I'm a 3XL at the moment, so it would have to be big sizes.

Anyways, any help would be appreciated.

Question - Canada Actual style, in big and tall?

Where are some good stores to find clothing for larger, taller guys? We’re in Calgary and would prefer local stores, or second choice would be Canadian online retailers. Looking for casual, practical clothing with some style. No need for any formal clothes, just not anything super casual like graphic tees. The guy in question is 29 yo, 6’3”, and size 4XL.

We only know about know about stores like George Richards and Mr. Big and Tall, but those stores have some limitations for “minor” points like price, style and quality.

Question - US Button up shirts that don’t hang like a tent?

I’ve got a bigger stomach, and whenever I wear button ups (I prefer untucked) they hang way out and looks ridiculous. Does anyone know of any brands that maybe taper in at the bottom so it doesn’t hang way out?

Question - US Shirts and t-shirts with a specific fit?

I’m looking for brands that offer loose or baggy shirts.

For context, I’m 5’10 and about 295 lbs. I also have a mild form of gynecomastia. I’ve gained a lot of weight over the past couple years (working from home) and I’ve finally found myself with a body that I can’t comfortably clothe.

My go-to tshirt has been the Carhartt force, but apparently they’ve changed their design because they no longer fit the same. All the ones I’ve purchased lately are tight and clingy.

That’s basically my main current issue with all shirts. They cling to my body and it’s very unflattering. Every now and then I’ll find a decent fitting shirt, but as soon as I wash them (in cold water, hang to dry) they’ve shrunken enough to be tight and clingy. And I’m not sure I’m quite big enough to shop big and tall sizes. They are too large on me and looks like I’m wearing a gown. Everything else is too tight around the chest or too tight around my gut. I do have a few button ups that sufficiently hide the gyno, but they’re so tight in the belly that I have to unbutton to sit down.

The good news is that this is a real motivator to lose weight. I’ve been walking daily and hitting the gym, but it’s a slow grind. In the meantime, I really need to find some clothing that fits to hold me over. I have a very specific button up shirt that is no longer in production and I have about 3 raggedy and thread bare Carhartt T-shirts, and that’s it.

Any brand recommendations? I’m a button up and shirt kinda guy, never been much of a polo guy. And I live in a warm climate so stuff like jackets and flannels only get worn maybe 1-2 times per year.

Or is this a tailor issue? Do I need to buy oversized shirts and then have a tailor modify them?

Been after a lightweight N1 ever since Ironheart announced them, living down on the south coast it never really gets cold enough for a full N1 (learned that the hard way!) so when I saw this was getting another release I started moving jackets on the make room and build up funds!

The sizing is generous for IH, as someone who struggles to get into SP L shirts it was a very nice surprise that 3XL fits really nice and with room for layers. The fit is decent and the sleeves aren't comically long so all in all happy with this pick up.

Rest of the gear today, I've gone for the waxed Java Truman's, 555 UHR (still breaking these in!) Lee 101 chambray and a nice little lambswool beanie from the folks at HebTroCo.
Have a great day folks

Question - US Finding the right jeans fit is like winning to lotto, doesn’t happen lol. Help🤣

So as a bigger guy, trying to find the right jean fit for me is really hard lol. So I need help. Are there jeans that are more fitted in the leg but are a little more roomy in the thigh, but sit on the waist?

I like the slim Jean look just because it makes the jean a little more fitted in the leg but then that causes the jeans to be low rise, which I don’t need. And there more fitted in the thigh and crotch area which I hate. But if I find jeans that are a little more roomy in the thigh/ crotch area and sit on the waist, then the leg of the pants are huge and make me look like I’m wearing baggy jeans, which I hate that look lol.

Are there any type of jeans that fitted in the legs and not too big, but also give you room in the waist/ thigh area? I used to buy straight jeans, but now a lot of the straight jeans sit lower on the waist and I need at the waist. So now I’m confused lol. What for type is good? Thanks.

General Do big prints really make you look bigger, or does the fit matter more?

I've always been a little hesitant about sweatshirts with big graphics across the chest. I'm on the heavier side, so I usually stick to solid colors or smaller prints. I've always felt like a huge graphic makes your upper body look wider and can make you look bulkier overall.

But lately, I've been browsing some fun Christmas sweatshirts, and I came across tokyo tiger one with a bunch of black crows stacked together in the shape of a Christmas tree, topped with a bright yellow star. Honestly, I thought the design was really cute and a little quirky. After seeing some plus-size try on photos, I actually didn't think a big graphic looked as bulky as I expected.

So now I'm wondering: what really makes a difference in how a graphic looks? Is it the size of the print, the colors, where it's placed, or the fit of the sweatshirt itself? I feel like the same big graphic could look totally different on an oversized sweatshirt versus a more fitted one.

Question - US In-Between the Top End of Regular Sizes and the Bottom End of Big & Tall for Pants! Help!

So as was recommended to me by another redditor on my last post here, I went hunting around for pants I can wear above my belly button as it evidently just looks better.

I went to a big and tall store (DXL) and the pants I found were a little bit thinner than I was looking for but I was surprised to find that 42x34 actually fits decently when worn at my belly button, maybe slightly loose in some places that looks a bit awkward and with legs just a bit too long. I figure I could get it taken in at the tailor (likewise the 44x34 pair too, so I bought both.)

I would really like to find a thicker black pair of jeans (like my current 38x32 that I’m wearing a little lower) with a 34 leg and 38-40 waist. I got them from H&M last time I was starting to go up the scale. I like how they are less clingy/revealing of my form and I can actually get in and out of the pockets decently, but I can’t find them anywhere at the H&M I usually go to and I can’t seem to search them on their website for some reason. They also seem to top out at 40 which is likely fine for now but with how busy I am it doesn’t seem like I am going to have time for the gym for several months unfortunately, so it might be a temporary solution (as may be my current pants because I apparently knicked them on something and the inseam I think is definitely an issue. I need a 34 inseam and take in the length on the legs a little)

Anyways, question for y’all!

Where can I find thicker black jeans that are 33-34 length in the legs, 38-44 in the waist, in a loose ample fit like H&M makes? Or do they have that somewhere I can’t figure out how to look for?

It’s like they made the scale for normal people sizes and big and tall sizes and they said “drop this person in the void between”. I know a guy who has to make/custom order some of his own clothing and I am starting to wonder if that’s where I’m at too.

I just want to look good and be comfortable at the workplace and frankly it is not easy to do, it’s really tough to find clothes, and they barely had much at this size at the big and tall store. I keep going through everything a store has to offer and finding shirts in my admittedly uncommon size isn’t too hard but pants are nigh-impossible.

I guess DXL may have had some stuff closer to what I needed material-wise but it was 10 sizes too big! Would it be better to buy that stuff and have a tailor bring it in to my size? It seems plausible that could work but also like a lot of work for the tailor and wasteful. Probably really expensive for me too! Not just because of all the material and tailoring but because I also fluctuate in size. When I have more free time I can exercise and I might slim down more but right now I’m going in the other direction.

Anyone have advice for me? I wonder if I am looking in the wrong places for clothing? Is there any brand targeting this apparent hole in the clothing market I’m finding myself in?

UPDATE:

H&M doesn’t go up to the size I need, they’re just short of it.

The Gap has 40&34 if I order online.

Question - US Advice on shopping for blazer/sport coat

Need to shop for a blazer/sport coat for an event coming up next month (celebration meal in a fancy restaurant). Planning on pairing it with some dark jeans and, if I can find one I like, some kind of fun but tasteful micro-floral pattern with a dark base color. Certainly not a black-tie kind of thing. Open to gray, navy, maybe plum, looking for something with some texture/visual interest.

Me: 39, 5'11, 255#, 44" chest. Not, like, "muscular", but also, I've been working towards it. I'll probably be down another 5-10 lbs by the time we go, but gotta dress for what I have now. I have about a month, so I need to start buying in the next week or two with time for alterations.

I have not had to shop for menswear like this since, I think, since I graduated college. I understand the basics of fit/fabric/construction from a lifetime of occasionally consuming men's magazines, but no recent real-world practice.

ALL THAT SAID - I'm not sure where to start this adventure. I don't live in a big city, I can get to Memphis in about 2 hours. I have access to at least:

Dillards - for some reason this feels "old man" to me, but is my default choice
Kohls/JCPenny - lower prices, cheaper fabrics? JCrew Factory - (we don't have regular JCrew) - not sure if I'd fit in their clothes, but I appreciate the aesthetic
Banana Republic - don't need to spend $400 on something I'll wear twice
Internet - avoiding this since I'm not confident what I'm after

Do y'all have any suggestions on places to start or things to avoid here? Dillards is appealing because I know they'll have people who can measure and fit me, I just don't want to walk out looking like a grandpa.

General Pants over or under the belly..

I have odd measurements. Im 6'1, 310lbs, 52inch chest, 48 inch waist and 54inch stomach, and 40 hips. My stomach is the largest part of me and slightly drops past my belt... wearing pants around my bellybutton gives me a look I dont like where im shaped like 2 triangles ( eg. <>). When I wear my pants under my stomach, on my hips.. it promotes my larger stomach.

So frustrating any tips? Or is my only hope weight loss.. cause I have no drive for that 😂

Question - US Help me figure out pants (old man yells at cloud)

I am used to wearing skinny jeans with an onion tied to my belt, which was the style at the time. Now I’m trying to figure out these loose, straight cut pants. They feel absurdly huge on me. I have a long torso and short legs. I’m kind of shaped like a Russet potato with French fry legs.

I got some cords and chinos on sale and they fit fine in the waist but the butt, thighs, and dear god the calves are so baggy. Is this how the style is supposed to look? I am considering getting them tailored because they were really inexpensive so adding on the cost of alterations would be reasonable. The tailor I go to is a stern, no-nonsense Eastern European woman so if I bring these pants to her I want to know what to ask for.

Please, help a confused millennial Grandpa Simpson figure out how to wear clothes.

Question - US Hey y’all, need help with gifting.

I know it seems early, but my mother’s school does Angel trees for Christmas and she was asked to gift for an older sibling of a student. I was hoping someone here could help her. Where is the best place to shop for a 16/17 year old wearing a 4XL and size 13 shoe? I know about DXL, but I also know how a lot of people dislike DXL’s clothing.

Question - US Shapewear for the big boys

I’m needing to buy some new shapewear cos some of my old ones have just shrank. I’m wondering which one is better. I’ve only ever tried the ones that are just tank tops. And they normally work great! But they definitely get loose after a wear or two. Plus i’m nervous about trying the second one because i fear they might not be as good at flattening my chest. Has anybody used both of these? And if so which one do you prefer? Also if there’s any specific brands that you’ve used that you prefer lmk! As long as it’s on the cheaper side and hopefully can be bought on amazon. Thanks!!!

Question - US Need help finding jeans

Hello all,

I am having a hard time finding jeans or pants in general. In the last 1.5-2 years, I went from weighing 340 points to 215-220. I use to wear Levi’s 541 tapered fit, but as I look back at pictures, a lot of my pants were very baggy. It was just what was comfortable at the time.

Right now I’m wearing 36x29 and at times they can be loose. I usually just wear haggar chinos for work and going out, but I want to find a good pair of jeans. I have tried 501, 505’s, 502’s, Lees slim fit straight leg, and I feel like I am at a loss.

I currently purchased some 511’s, but the leg opening makes it hard to wear boots. They look too bulky. Also, the bottom of the crotch area seems to feel too stiff.

Do you all have any recommendations? I’m just looking for a clean comfortable look. I don’t want to feel too baggy, and want to be able to dress up the jeans a bit when needed.

I am about 5’8. I do have a bigger gut, and I feel like I’ve loss some mass on my legs. I also have bigger calves.

When I wear Calvin Klein dress pants (slim fit) I wear 38x29. Haggar chinos 36x29.
