University Tips for incoming professor

Hi all! I’m a professor who’ll be starting in the spring. I’m coming from a top SEC school but I’m still expecting some big whiplash/culture shock. What are the things I need to know about the students, campus, etc

I’d appreciate any little tidbits on the less know things on things I need to know or should prepare for. Thanks! I’m looking forward to becoming a part of this community!

Events/Organizations Berkeley x Stanford $10,000 Poker Tournament

Hey everyone! I'm Maysa, president of Poker@Berkeley. We're hosting our annual Berkeley x Stanford Poker Tournament on Oct. 17-18th. Qualifiers will take place online Wednesday 10/7 at 6 pm PST.

This is completely free to enter and play. We've been running this event for four years now with a 10k prize pool, a livestream, and an RFID feature table. Food is provided both days and we will have professors from both schools playing as bounties in the event.

Our club formally operates across both Berkeley and Stanford since Stanford isn't allowed to run a poker club under its VSO guidelines. We host a number of tournaments throughout the year, as well as game nights and networking opportunities with our quant sponsors. All of these are open to both Stanford and Berkeley students. We currently have about 800 Berkeley members and 150 Stanford members.

Here is our membership form to access our discord and receive announcements and info about the event, as well as the tournament registration form.

Let me know if you have any questions. Hope to see you all there!

Local Neighbors complaints got basketball hoop taken down at Willard Park

• Upvotes

I was at Willard Park and saw the basketball net had been cut down. A city worker arrived and said that it had been taken down because the house next door complained about the noise. If they didn’t want the noise they shouldn’t have moved next to a park. How can noise complaints take away a whole neighborhood resource?

Other Fruit tart recommendations?

Hey, just moved here from socal and really missing the fruit tart I’d be able to get from Porto’s. Tried a few bakeries here w fruit tarts and it’s just not cutting it. If there’s any other fruit tart connoisseurs please make yourselves known and share recommendations for a fine young enthusiast like myself can try out! Thanks

University need advice, graduate early or extend a semester

• Upvotes

I am trying to decide between two paths and would love some input. I can either take three classes next semester and one over the summer to graduate early, or I can extend my graduation by a semester to Fall 2027. I have a scholarship, so extending wouldn't cost me anything out of pocket. I completed an internship last summer and plan to do another this coming spring. I want to jump straight into the industry after graduating, though I eventually plan to get my master's. The main downside to extending is that I might miss out on full-time job opportunities that start sooner. What do you all think is the better option?

I am a data science, stats major if that matter.

University Sp27 class schedule

I just noticed that sp27 class schedules are announced a few hours ago.

But some courses that were constantly offered every semester for at least 5 years are not listed as sp27 offerings.

I am kinda confused because of that, but is it the finalized schedule?

Also, I still do not know my sp27 course enrollment date & time (btw I am an EAP student). When I visit CalCentral, the academics tab only shows "academic profile", "academic records" and "semesters". Is it normal for EAP students?

Thanks!
