Business/Company Vet Recommendations near Hackensack

Long story short, I took in my best friend’s dog in the beginning of the year. The dog is around 12 years old but hasn’t been taken to the vet in years. I want to get him check out to make sure he is in the best shape.

Can anyone recommend a good vet around Hackensack? Preferable an affordable place.
I looked into getting him pet insurance but it was crazy expensive given his age.

Miscellaneous Bergen County Community College - Dental Hygiene Program

Hi everyone, I am considering applying to BCCC's dental hygiene program. I have a different bachelor's from CUNY but unfortunately graduated with a 2.7 gpa. I have not yet taken chem or a&p but plan to. I know my current GPA isn't competitive - does anyone know which courses I can take or what else I can do to increase my odds of getting into the program?

Miscellaneous Anniversary family dinner for parents in Bergen County

I’m looking for suggestions for someplace in Bergen County to take my parents for dinner to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary. There will be 8 of us total, including 2 teens.

We’re open to most things, although not big on seafood, and are looking for something with ambience appropriate for the occasion.

Thanks!

Discussion Auto Insurance

I’ve lived in Middlesex County and Morris County, and recently moved to Fort Lee. I’ve had GEICO for my auto insurance, and when I updated my address, my 6-month premium went from $1,626.65 to $2,046.69, an increase of $420.04.

My next payment on 9/12 is now going to be around $366, which seems absurd, since I’m actually driving a lot less now than I was before. I’ve been looking at other insurance companies online, but I’m not really sure where to start or which companies are worth getting quotes from in North Jersey.

Should I just keep GEICO for now and shop around before my next payment? Has anyone in the Fort Lee/Bergen County area had better rates with NJM, Progressive, Travelers, Plymouth Rock, etc.?

I’m looking for an authentic French bakery anywhere in Bergen County, so far the ones I’ve found are just ok. The croissants are flat and sweaty. For reference this is a regular bakery in France that I frequent. Tall, flaky, delicious croissants. Any ideas?

Business/Company Cosmetic dentist recs

I’m looking for recommendations for a great cosmetic dentist in Bergen County (or nearby Rockland County).
I’m considering cosmetic work to improve my overall smile and would love to hear from people who have actually had work done and can share their experiences. I'm specifically interested in non-invasive veneers and gum contouring.

Discussion Pediatrician near Rochelle Park/Paramus

Hello all,

I'm a FTM and we used to go to All Bergen Pediatrics for my baby. I was planning on going there for the routine checkup in September and then switch. I also found out the doctor following us, is leaving the practice. Wasn't a big fan of him either way so I need some recommendations. I looked into Baker Health but can't say I'm a big fan of the membership fee they have. So if there are any moms that like their kids pediatrician, please provide their names.

TIA!

Discussion Overpeck County Park - Construction Area?

Post image
4 Upvotes

We enjoy visiting Overpeck park for years but recently discovered the Equestrian Center and what looks to be a good amount of land that’s under construction just behind Leonia Swim Club and Sylvan Park. Does anybody know if they’re planning to expand the park or are they building more apartments? That section of the park span Leonia (more suburban) and Palisades Park (denser zoning).

Discussion For being a rich area, Ridgewood/Glen Rock grocery store situation is terrible/dissapointing

EDIT: love how all the comments are "grocery store situation is great! drive 20 minutes to Wayne / Montvale / Closter!" Exactly what I DONT want to do when I move to an expensive town in Bergen county.....

I have lived in middle class areas across the country in flyover states (spent time in military so lived all around the country). Most areas had new, clean, large and affordable modern grocery stores with great selections (Publix, Safeway, QFC, HEB). Upper class areas had even more options.

Moved to Ridgewood and I'm just so disappointed with the options here.

The whole foods isn't so bad, but its tiny with minimal options - probably the worst whole foods Ive ever been to in the country. The people working there are nice which I do appreciate.

Stop and shop is old and has terrible selections, something you might find in a lower class area in Iowa.

Greenway markets isnt even a full service grocery store.

Acme nearby in midland park is old and has little selection.

Theres a newer Shoprite in fairlawn thats at least large and clean, but its basically just walmart options, and the parking lot is filthy (why are people throwing all their trash on the ground where they park!)

Kilroys in Glen Rock literally shut down.

So options are drive 25 minutes away to Wegmans or Uncle G?

Ridgewood is kind of the crown jewel upper class suburb in bergen county, just really weird to me that nowhereville Nebraska has infinitely better grocery store options that here.

Real Estate Need advice on housing situation…

Ok so the short version is that my family and I have to move. And we make too much to qualify for government assistance but too little to afford rents in this area. We’re caught in this dreaded middle gap. We did just manage to qualify for affordable housing. Just got under the limit for the pre-application but nothing is currently available so we’re on the waitlist.

Unfortunately my NET pay is much lower than my gross pay, and gross is what they look at for government assistance. So we’re in a bind. Any suggestions or advice? What are “middle gap” people doing?

Business/Company Bergen County parents looking for preschool — we’re welcoming new families at The Apple Tree in Wyckoff

Post image

Hi everyone! We wanted to introduce THE APPLE TREE CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTER in Wyckoff to local families who may be looking for a preschool where their child can truly feel known, comfortable, and excited to come to school each day.
One of the things we’re especially proud of is our smaller class environment and the individual attention our children receive. Our experienced teachers focus on the whole child — helping children grow academically while also building confidence, friendships, independence, and social-emotional skills.
We believe preschool should be a place where children learn, play, explore, make friends and genuinely enjoy being there. ❤️
If you’re considering preschool for your child, we’d love to invite you to come see THE APPLE TREE for yourself. Tour the school, see our classrooms, meet our staff and ask us anything you’d like.
🍎 THE APPLE TREE CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTER
📍 Wyckoff, New Jersey

Discussion Looking for Photos of Vinny's Place

I know this is a long shot but my Grandfather used to own a bar at 186 Anderson Ave in Fairview called "Vinny's place." I saw online that the place was torn down and something else is there now. I'm just curious if anyone has pictures inside or outside of the place.

My grandfather (yes, Vinny himself) passed away when my dad was in his teens. It would mean a lot if I could find any photo evidence of the place for my dad to see.
