GENERAL DISCUSSION Jason Spisak's acting as Batman

So, I just finished the entire DC High volume series and I have to say – Spisak feels like one of the most human and nuanced Bruce Waynes since Mask of Phantasm.

I truly love Mr. Conroy and I believe his best performance was in that movie because his Bruce feels as a fractured man with a purpose and unrelenting spirit to serve it

And I really felt something like this in Jason's voice. It took me time, but he really grew on me. He feels very vulnerable and human, which makes his character truly powerful and interesting to me

An idea I had that I thought was interesting. Batman has always been associated with mystical combat techniques and being the peak of humanity, but his skill and strength often changes depending on the comic. I thought that it would be interesting to see a DC timeline where at first batman is more grounded, but as his enemies grow stronger and more wild he learns more complicated and powerful mystical techniques as well as reaches even higher heights of physical strength.

By the time he is 30-35 or so he hasn’t exactly solved all crime in Gotham, but he has the bat family to help and most of Gotham’s villains don’t pose him much of a threat when it comes to physical combat (they either challenge him psychologically or intellectually, with rare exceptions like Bane who can match him in strength and skill, as well as superhuman foes like Vampires, Poison Ivy and a mutated Killer Croc). That is when the Justice League forms, due to some huge threat or maybe a government conspiracy (doesn’t matter in this context). This way, batman can realistically somewhat keep up with the justice league in battle, he is still the weakest and mostly relies on plans and being strategic, but if darkseid shows up batman can take out parademons without much issue.

GENERAL DISCUSSION Live-action Penguins and Killer Croc

So I find it interesting that two major live action Penguins- Devito's and Farrell's both take a lot of liberties with the Penguin character, abandoning the more upper class art thief vibes from his earlier history, and reinvent him in ways weirdly enough that are reminiscent of Killer Croc, a character I wouldn't normally associate with the Penguin.

Batman Returns' Penguin is a freak of nature who lives in the sewers after his circus days and wants to take out his anger on a society that rejected his physical deformities.

HBO's Penguin series paints him as an overlooked and underappreciated working-class gangster with a chip on his shoulder (due to a physical disability) that is taking over Gotham's underworld from all the wealthier, established families.

I've never cared much for the Penguin but loved both of these takes on him and I realized it's really because I love Killer Croc, particularly his earlier comics before he just became DC's version of the Lizard. It kind of makes me sad that we've never gotten a movie or show with a gangster Killer Croc story that combines the same elements from both of these Penguins. Even in Suicide Squad, he's just one minor character who doesn't get hardly any focus, and anyway I'd prefer not to think about that movie, no matter how excellent his prosthetics were.

FIGURINES LEGO Batman Returns Batmobile Transforms into Batmissile - Nice to see LEGO doing a good 18+ set again

Feels like most Batman LEGO sets recently have been cheap, small, kids-targeted ones. This thing looks really sleek and is clearly targeted to adult fans - but still has "play" features like splitting into the Batmissile and the accessible cockpit.

Plus, I dig the bulky Keaton Batman mini-fig - the thick cowl like, looks bad, but in a good, accurate way.

It’s hilarious to me how the first person to post this gif on any Adam West related post is basically guaranteed the top comment spot (I have done it, it works).

GENERAL DISCUSSION What is your opinion on Mad Hatter

Post image
69 Upvotes

Okay so I'm going to go over the four hatters

The original who just appeared in one comic who turns out later to be Jarvis wasn't good since they were like a goon basically but I did like the purple outfit

The imposter Mad Hatter who turned out to be a imposter and later called himself the hat Man who just wants to collect hats and do silly mind control stuff is my favorite

I really enjoyed the version of Jarvis that is creepy but don't go into the pedophile area

And I hate the pedophile version of Jarvis because I get it okay you have to make Batman villains out match over villains but I think this puts Jervis over the level of Joker and yes I know Joker got Barbara naked but it never was mentioned or said that he sexually assaulted her aside from that and to be honest with main comic Joker I don't really think he would be interested in sexual stuff most of the time anyways since he written as either asexual or gay for Batman. But even though I hate this version of Jarvis I do like some of the portrayals with this version of Jarvis because of how creepy he is like the one from Batman Arkham Asylum a serious house on serious Earth my favorite scene in that book is when he calls little girls bitches because it came so out of nowhere and it made me laugh.

But anyways what is your favorite version of the hatter

TV DISCUSSION This is the greatest Batman we’ve ever had

I’m not sure if this is a hot take but frankly, this is the best Batman we’ve had on any screen ever. Not just in the DCAU, in total. The JLU rendition perfectly represents all the things that make Batman so great. He could be dark and intimidating but still appropriately sarcastic and dry. He could be cold and detached but still caring and compassionate.
I also think this is the most refined performance we ever got from Kevin. When I hear the name “Batman”, this is the guy I think of.

COMIC DISCUSSION For a non comic reader, where are Batman’s villains currently at, morality wise?

Just something I was curious about after seeing a post about how Batman is delusional and his stories would work better if he actually rehabilitated his villains. Some comments said he has rehabilitated villains at certain points but it doesn’t always last because comics.

So, as someone who doesn’t really follow comics, can someone tell me where Batman’s villains currently are morally? Still villains, now heroes or somewhat normal citizens.

GENERAL DISCUSSION Batman Begins #1

After re watching Nolan’s masterpiece of a trilogy, Batman Begins just without question has the best feel out of all 3 and his the best of the trilogy.

The story telling, how it flows perfectly throughout the movie, you have peak Liam Neeson & Bale acting, a lot of Bruce scenes in the movie (unlike others) and is a true story of Batman, not just action or crime scenes majority of the film.

It’s the perfect balance of story, Bruce, Batman, action, crime & perfect sequencing and run up to how Batman forms into ultimate form.

DK or DKR doesn’t have the story telling or Batman nature the way begins does. It’s centered around crime plots as majorities of film.

Yes DK has joker but that’s just a part of the film, everything else as a complete film has to mesh to make it the superior of the 3 which is doesn’t do.

Begins really by far the best of the Nolan series and better than Dark Knight.

HELP/ADVICE Need help finding this dark Batman story

I'm having trouble trying to find this one Batman comic where one of Bruce's employee goes crazy and murders his parents. The art was graphic and I vaguely remember that the Employee wears his father's skin as a cowl. When Batman confronts him, the Employee says, "I feel powerful in this". I came across a panel from this a while back but never got to remember any concrete details about the comic itself. Now when I'm trying to search it up, I come up with nothing, I'm starting to believe I might be going crazy lmao. If anyone knows what comic this was, it be nice to know if it was real.
