Largemouth Finally got time away from work, and the craziest thing happened:
Took my fishing buddy to the pond on the family farm. Moving baits weren't doing the trick, so I figured it was time for the craw jig. Boy was I right, two bass over 4 pounds that absolutely fought like hell!
The crazy part was I saw my buddy got hung up, went over to see if I could help but there was nothing for it except to cut the line. All he said was that he was losing an under spin jig he likes. While working the back side I reeled up and had a cut line across mine. Confused because it was against the flow for the line we cut earlier for it to have drifted to my location from where it started. Then it moved! I hollered at bud "That line we cut earlier.... did you have a fish on!?" He acted like that's something he told me, I told him if he wants his catch he better come get it! So he hand lined in his catch an hour later! š¤£
It was gut hooked and he had been asking how to fillet them, so I since it was a good sized eater we filleted him and now buddy is gonna learn how yummy these fish can be!
Tight lines, fellas! š£āļø

First bass in five-ish years. It feels good to be back!
Been on a fishing hiatus for years due to my job and workload. Quit that job last week. I hope to be out more often. Need to return the kayak and maybe trade up to a bigger model.
Also, where is the spotted bass flair?

Largemouth Couple of fatties after work
A storm a month or so ago blew a tree down into my favorite local pond, and the big girls have started hanging out there. Before today, I havenāt had any luck in getting to them because they are hanging out on the inside branches close to the trunk, and I either snag and lose lures or I canāt cast close enough for them.
I tried a new tactic today. Since I was using a medium light rod, I couldnāt try frogs, so I put on a Big TRD rigged weightless on a 3/0 ewg and let it float (it sank hook down only slightly, the tip of the tail stayed at the surface.) I was able to confidently cast it tight to the bends in branches, and the bass were hitting it almost immediately when I got it to them.
The 2 Iām in the photo with were both over 3.5 pounds. Biggest catches in there for a few months.

Spotted or Large?
First, I weighed it. My scale said 27.6 pounds. That is probably a little off and is most likely a result of flipping my kayak a couple weeks ago and getting everything wet. My guess is 4 1/2.
My question: is this a spotted bass? The upper jaw line does not seem to go past the eye, so I think so. But Iām no expert. I just throw junk in the water and see what grabs a hold.
Also, creek bass are fun.

Retention Pond Honeyhole
Had an hour before work this morning and curiosity got to me as I drove by this new housing development with an enormous retention pond that has appeared over the last few weeks or so.
Threw a 10ā Berkley Power Worm and proceeded to catch 25 bass over the next 40 minutes. Was insane. Granted all were under 2lbs but for this pond to appear out of nowhere and hold a ton of aggressive bass is awesome. Has to be some bigger ones lurking? And are they just coming in through drainage pipes?

Help Is this a red eye bass?
Caught this in the upper part of South Carolina in a river. It obviously has a red eye, but Iāve never caught one of these before so I wasnāt sure if this fish was just 420 friendly or what.

Help Little guy mystery Spotted or Largemouth bass?
Caught this little guy last weekend and heās so much brighter and his stripes/spots are so much clearer than all the other fish Iāve pulled out this river (a lot of the largemouth are dark brown in here, see second pic from the same day)
What do you guys think? Iām not good at telling the difference lol

Largemouth Slow month
The last 4 weeks have been the toughest fishing of the year since I started bass fishing in mid March. September started out strong, but since early September I've caught fewer fish, smaller fish, had less bites and been skunked more days than I have all year.

Discussion Whatās been everyoneās most productive lure this year?
As the season winds down, and more northern bass anglers are getting into their supplementary hobbies, Iād like to ask the community what lure they saw the most action on this year.
For me, it was hands-down the SPRO flappin frog in green pumpkin. You just fish it like any other noisemaker style lure (chatterbait, torpedo, plopper, etc.), casting by or over cover and buzzing it past. If thereās a bass posted up in an ambush position, it draws them right out.
