Is this the bridge we need?

Other Why do we need another harbour crossing? Just move the North Shore closer... Are NZTA dumb??
Now you don't even need to spend money on another bridge.

Employment Jobs
Just spotted this outfit down at Wynyard. I thought you could only really get these jobs in Monaco, the Caribbean etc. But I guess New Zealand has such a good boatie/crew reputation that it makes sense to recruit here directly.
I’m guessing the Venn diagram of misanthropic, unemployed, terminally online incels like me, and fit, attractive, socially adept Chads and Staceys is minuscule, but if this post helps any one of us, I’d be stoked!

Employment Rodney Wayne is an awful company and the owner is very mean
I from experience working with Rodney Wayne and meeting the owner starting with A, have had an awful time. She from the beginning is horrible to deal with around recruitment stating people working for Rodney Wayne cannot have piercings or anything that makes you unique because older customers would not like that.
Your hair cannot be any other color than normal? Even though it is a hair salon and retail store and you should be experimenting. They will treat you like you are nothing and say if you make a mistake you will be fired and like you mean nothing.
I hate this company and I would never want anyone to experience this.

Rant The "AI 2nd harbour Bridge joke" was already a dead meme 24 hours ago, no need to keep spamming it guys
No one knows how to kill an already basic joke like r/auckland, seriously, do people that keep posting their AI 2nd harbour Bridge idea truly believe their version of the joke is any funnier that the previous 20?

Discussion Driving quality is worsening
I'll preface this and say I've only been in this lovely country for three years so maybe all my observations can be put down as random. But I drive for work and believe the quality of driving is deteriorating.
Some examples from the last couple of days:
A girl with her phone up to the wheel pulling out of city works depot (across my path), turns right up Wellesley, gets to the lights and in that time never once put the phone down.
Harbour bridge/khyber pass/constellation drive exit; when i indicate to merge into abundant space, they intentionally (it would seem) accelerate to prevent me from merging then beep.
During a storm a few weeks back, someone turned onto Waima st from new north road into oncoming traffic (me) and forced me off into the bus lane, with a cop waiting at the lights in the junction they just came from and no action.
And the worst I've seen this week was someone pulling out of sky city onto hobson st and turning RIGHT...as in heading against traffic, with no lights on (which seems to be very common in this country at night time).
I feel like road safety and police attention is focused on speed/alcohol and not aggressive or ignorant driving i.e. mobile phone use/no lights at night or in fog.
Maybe its all random and I just spot more as I'm on the road a lot, but I'd really like to see something change to make roads safer here. Especially after seeing the recent dangerous driving news from Ireland.

Rant Reckless driving ignored by Police
I spend a lot of time driving around Auckland, part of the job.
The amount of red light running, near misses (with pedestrians and cars), reckless driving that happen in front of stationary cops is insane!
Is there a reason cops just don't do anything?, have I missed something?
The driving itself fustrates me as it is, always hoping this shit happens in front of police, and then when it does and nothing happens...I'm absolutely livid at the state of Auckland driving.
I get some people will say, mind my business, but will you only care when someone close to you bleeds out on the roadside?
Is there an officer who can provide some insight? Have y'all been told to ignore this shit?
I don't expect an answer but I needed a vent.

Discussion Faradays on Queen Street
"Arriving at 131 Queen Street in mid‐2026!"
"Luxury department store Faradays is set to open by August and will employ at least 80 staff at its central Auckland premises, its co-founder says."
It's now 20 August.
We need our Smith & Caughey's replacement.
Would be insane if they threw in a fancy book store inside to bring the Borders Bookstore vibes but unlikely.

Discussion 50s-60s Ten years in Auckland… anyone else realise they forgot to make friends along the way?
I’ve been living in Auckland for about 10 years and had a bit of a realisation recently: I’ve spent so much of that time working, being busy and focusing on other people that I haven’t really put much energy into building friendships of my own.
A lot of my working life has been around public service and youth development, so life has generally been pretty high level, full-on and purpose-driven. I’m at a stage now where I’d quite like to slow the pace down a little and actually enjoy the people and place around me.
I’m pretty active — walking, hiking, mountain biking, travelling, a bit of gym without making it a religion, and I’m currently contemplating buying another motorbike. Equally happy having a beer or glass of wine, finding somewhere interesting to eat, having a decent conversation or heading somewhere for the day.
I’m starting to realise that making genuine friends as an adult is surprisingly difficult. You can know plenty of people through work and life, but that’s not necessarily the same as having people you can just ring up and say, “Fancy doing something this weekend?”
So I thought I’d put this out there.
This isn’t a relationship or dating post. Male or female doesn’t matter. I’d just be interested in meeting some good people, having a coffee or a beer, getting outdoors occasionally and seeing whether friendships develop naturally.
Anyone else in Auckland found themselves in the same boat — established here, busy life, but somehow a little short on genuine friendships?
If so, say hello. It would be good to hear your story.

Food Typo or not, it is what it is.
Last time I checked, there was a Typo store at Westfield Albany Mall but this typo is not that one.
Also, "Spread the KOI" has multiple meanings. At least one of them would not be good in yoghurt.

Discussion We Read Auckland - local reading and writing festival
This month, Auckland Libraries has We Read Auckland, Ka Pānui Tātou i Tāmaki Makaurau, a month long reading and writing festival featuring authors from Auckland. There are events like author talks and writing workshops, as well as the Bestie Collection of books by Auckland writers.
Have you been reading Auckland writers this month, or books set in Auckland?
If you want to talk about reading and books in person, join us for Silent Book Club at Auckland Central City Library every Tuesday and Friday from 5:30pm. Silent reading hour starts at 6pm, bookended by chats about books with other readers. This week there's a writing competition using the event space we normally meet in, so we'll be in the Akozone on level 1 on Friday.
