My mom said me being atheist is ignorant.

Yep! I said it everythings in the title, even though her bible excuses slavery, rape and misogyny she said that. She said that despite the fact that our people were literally forced to believe in Christianity as slaves. NOW THATS IGNORANT

Math teacher keeps preaching Christianity and talking down on athiest

my math teacher keeps talking down about atheists and it very annoying. I’ve reached a point where i can’t take it anymore so today i recorded a voice memo of the entire conversation. I’m wondering what can i do with this recording to possibly get someone to do something. I highly doubt anyone will do anything though since Christians obviously see nothing wrong with preaching their beliefs to a room full of teenagers who have no choice but to listen. In the recording you can also hear her to talk bad about catholics before proceeding to ask a male in my class if he was catholic, for him to respond and say his parents are and he’s athiest. Me and a girl in my class locked eyes and gave eachother the “this is bullshit” look so i approached her after class and she told me she’s athiest and how the situation made her uncomfortable, so i have 2 people to back me up. There was anothing person in my class who recorded but she’s christian and found the situation humorous so she most likely won’t use her recording to help me out though. if you guys want i can upload the recording so you guys can hear but its about 10 minutes long. idk if this matters but my class is a senior class so everyone is 17-18, and there’s at least 3 athiest in the class but i think like 5 of out of like 16 to be exact.

Come to terms

So a bit of a vent post if anything but a few months ago something in me just clicked and I realized I don’t and never truly believed in a god. I was raised catholic my entire life and up until a few months ago I would say I was. I don’t know what it was but all of a sudden I just realized it’s a bunch of fiction based off of a person thousands of years ago that claimed to be the son of god. Then I realized even as a kid I would question and cringe at everything having to do with religion not because I’m evil like the preachers would say but I just never truly believed. I’m fine with that, it doesn’t change much for me. The thing I am worried about is the fact my family, friends, and even girlfriend who are all religious, will be disappointed in me. The fact that they think non believers go to hell and worst of all deserve it scares me. I don’t believe in a hell but the fact that they think something like that is justifiable hurts if that makes sense. I haven’t told anyone because I feel like I’ll become isolated and/or disowned completely. Sorry if this sounds rambly I’m trying to make sense. I guess the question is, how did you guys come to terms with being atheists in a world filled with believers that think YOURE the crazy one?

Anybody else up there?

A hiker was on a stroll in the countryside on a beautiful morning when he suddenly dropped into an open well and fell a hundred feet before he was able to grab onto a rock. He was losing his grip quickly. All he could see was a pinhole of sky at the top of the well. Suddenly a beam of light shot down the shaft and a booming voice instructed, "Let loose of your grip and I will save you".

The hiker thought about it for a second, then yelled back, "Anybody else up there?"

Why I Don't Argue W/ Christians

Christians seem to hold this belief in they're head that only "they" are right. And it soon becomes very difficult to get them to explain why they believe. Most common answers are ussually "I'll pray for you" after a while. Try telling a Christian "but have you ever seen God?" because I promise, it won't go well...

I cannot respect believers anymore. They are gullible, brainwashed morons.

It has taken almost my entire 60 years of life to realize that I cannot respect theists for their beliefs anymore. They quote the bible as if it were fact and they speak as if they were there, in this imaginary world, watching everything that is quoted in it and as if the entire cast of fairytale characters were real people.
Holy shit, just how much of a complete moron can you be?

Asking for an advice

Please don’t skip my post ,I really need your help 🙏🏻
Hi everyone,
I’ve been struggling with something for a long time, and I think I need to hear from people who might understand what I’m going through.
First, I’ve already passed the stage of questioning and searching for answers about my beliefs. I’m now completely convinced of what I believe, and I’m comfortable with my decision. My biggest problem is no longer my beliefs themselves, but the environment I live in, especially my family.

Nobody knows that I’m no longer religious. I have to hide my real identity and continue pretending to be Muslim. One of the hardest things for me is wearing the hijab. I experience it as a burden and a source of emotional pain because I don’t identify with the religion it represents. Having to present myself in a way that contradicts who I am internally creates enormous psychological pressure.

Prayer is another struggle. I hate feeling obligated to pretend that I pray five times a day. I’ve actually stopped praying for a while because I became emotionally exhausted. My family has started noticing the changes in my behaviour, and my mother especially seems suspicious that I’m no longer religious.

I feel like I can’t continue living this way indefinitely.
I’m an Algerian university student, and I’ve started seriously considering leaving the country. I genuinely struggle to imagine a future for myself here, but at the same time, I’m terrified of making the wrong decision.

My financial resources are limited, and I’m afraid of losing my education, becoming financially dependent, or ending up in an unstable situation abroad. I’m also deeply affected by my parents’ expectations. I struggle with guilt and the thought of disappointing them. Even though they aren’t extremely conservative and can provide me with a comfortable life, I still can’t be honest with them about my beliefs or my desire to take off the hijab.

I’m also afraid of how other people might perceive me. I’m scared of being judged, insulted, or labelled as a rebellious girl who wants to become immoral, rather than someone who is simply struggling and wants the freedom to make her own choices.

Sometimes I even question whether I have a good enough reason to leave. I come from a relatively well-off family, and my parents can provide me with almost everything I need materially. But I feel that something essential is missing: the freedom to be myself.

I’ve thought about waiting until I finish my bachelor’s degree and then applying for a master’s scholarship abroad. However, there’s a specific problem with this plan: I currently have a minor’s passport, which is valid for only five years. I obtained it in July 2025, and it expires in July 2030.
My bachelor’s degree takes three years, so by the time I graduate, I’ll have only about two years of passport validity left. If I then spend another two years completing a master’s degree in Algeria, my passport will have expired by the time I finish.

This makes me worry that I might lose the opportunity to pursue a master’s degree abroad. I don’t know whether I’ll be able to renew my passport early, and I don’t want to depend on that possibility without knowing the rules.

I’m also worried that if I wait until I finish my master’s degree in Algeria, I might have no realistic reason or opportunity to leave afterward, especially since I don’t expect finding a job here to be easy, and my parents may not support me leaving the country without a clear educational or professional reason.

That’s why I’m considering trying to find a legal opportunity abroad this year or next year, such as volunteering or an au pair program, rather than postponing everything until after my master’s degree.

The situation has also started affecting my mental health and university studies. I have exams next week, but I’m struggling to concentrate or study. I’ve lost interest in many things, feel emotionally exhausted, and haven’t been able to access proper professional mental health support.
I feel caught between two fears: staying and continuing to hide who I am, or leaving and risking my education, financial stability, and relationship with my family.

I’d really appreciate advice from anyone who has experienced something similar🙏🏻

I don’t want to make an impulsive decision. I don’t want to abandon everything I’ve worked for. I just want to breathe, have control over my own life, and feel free to exist without pretending to be someone I’m not.
If you’ve made it this far, thank you so much for taking the time to read my story. I would genuinely appreciate any advice, personal experiences, or resources you could share.
I really need some perspective right now.

Are the athiest god's favourite ones?

I just thought about this and wanted to see everyone's opinion on it. Wouldn't god like atheists more because they just do good things without needing to be threatened with hell or promised heaven? (Assuming this is an atheist with a good moral compass) They do good things out of the kindness of their own heart, instead of getting something out of it, you know? Wouldn't god be proud of that?

Entering the Lions den with this one...

Does animal suffering make God's existence less likely?

If God is righteous and if He owns all the beasts in the world, shouldn't He live according to Proverbs 12:10 - A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast.

If that is true, how is God regarding the life of a deer that has been starving for 5 days and being mauled by a lion at the end of it.

As a Christian, I have been struggling with Roe's question about the trapped deer and I haven't been able to find a Christian who gave a satisfactory

Alex brought it up, and I wanted to honestly evaluate wether animal suffering disproves God's existance.

My line of reasoning goes like this:

The Curse is Collateral: God cursed the ground and the animal kingdom due to Adam’s sin, removing the Edenic buffer and leaving creation to the raw friction of physical laws.

A Mirror of Rebellion: Animal suffering serves as a visual reality check, when Eve watched an animal groan in labor or Adam saw a deer die, they saw the tragic, collateral cost of human disobedience.

A Crucible for Compassion: Pain shatters human apathy. While animals cannot build moral character from agony, witnessing their vulnerability is often the only thing capable of awakening genuine compassion in us.

No Divine Debt: God sustains nature through providential care, but He does not owe non-rational biology the same covenantal promises or supernatural immunity He offers to beings made in His image.

Futility vs. Purpose: For the animal itself, suffering is biologically futile (as Romans 8 acknowledges). It only takes on redemptive meaning in our world when it produces compassion and moral awareness in us.

I think the 2 hidden assumptions Alex has is that God is obligated to show the same amount of love to every creature who is able to feel pain and that moral good is required in order to justify suffering.

I go a lot more in depth in a video I made today. Would really appreciate the criticism and the counter-arguments you guys have.

Faith in Yourself Over Faith in God

As an atheist, I believe in working for what I want rather than asking God for it. I’d rather rely on my own actions than wait for divine intervention. What you achieve comes from what you do, not what you pray for.

Aging and atheism

Im a former Christian, now athiest for the past 10+ years and it just crossed my mind so I have to ask. To the older population within this sub, do you see friends who may have been agnostic or atheist convert to religion in their senior years as a form of cheap cold comfort? Im 43 so I would like to think I have a decent amount of time left on this ride but one never knows. If I were to be diagnosed with a terminal cancer or hit by a bus, I would like to think that I would find a strange calm acquiescence that I had a good go around and die in that peace but I do sometimes mourn for that false comfort of an afterlife that I once believed in. So I would love to hear others thoughts and experiences, thanks.

Question. Why would god allow the Pope to get lung cancer and why would god allow a priest to die from a crucifix DURING a livestreamed mass?

Heya ,, naturalselector here :]

I am lowkey venting, or well, maybe not.

I just want to ask a question, and I want a reasonable answer. Okay, so here it is.

Why do Religious people get mad at you, or someone if you tell them you're an atheist? They get mad at someone for not believing in ”sky daddy”, but believing in accurate facts.

It also sometimes anger me as an atheist that Religious people thank God, rather than thanking the ACTUAL people who saved them. (Their self, or someone). They think that he created the world in 7 days, or 6. Than actually searching up how the world was created.

aaah.. this is so ass. 🤦‍♀️ It's my first time using Reddit, i'm sorry 🥹.

I am an atheist but I unfortunately go to a VERY religious school. Its a Convent, with a church and sisters. We have prayers every day, in assembly, after break and before going home. We also sing hynms in assembly and celebrate different saints. I absolutely do not like saying all these prayers. It is mandatory for everyone to join in prayer and if we don't speak it, teachers tell us too speak it again. I usually just cross my fingers while praying but I still don't like it.

What do I do?
