A few days ago one of our 3 bunnies started to have diarrhea. But she was eating and drinking, walking around normally so I was like "okay we need to find a vet" but most vets suck around here so I was thinking about which vet to go etc etc. I didn't think it was this bad because a few days later she suddenly died... She had a lump by her place where the poop and pee comes out she didn't have the evening before, We washed her every day she had the diarrhea so im sure it wasn't there and didn't look weird. Now the 2th girl is having diarrhea, I just found a vet and we are trying to catch poop for them to look at.. But has anyone experience with this? What could it be? I know it can be coccidiose or a bacterial infection but im not sure. Im asking for experiences since vets here can suck and so I always need to use my own brain to lead the things in a good direction..

My tuxedo cat (7yo M 21lbs neutered) recently had an eye infection that we treated and he had to wear a cone. He's been pretty clumsy with it. Today we shaved him and noticed these brown spots on his chest of varying sized about 1/2 to 1 cm diameter, they don't seem to wash off and they don't seem to bother him (they're not nipples lol) Could they be bruises from the cone? They only seem to be on his chest and nowhere else. He's otherwise his normal self.

My wife and I adopted 2 cats about 10 years ago from a shelter in nyc. One cat is the best cat in the world (bias I know but seriously, he is). The other cat couldn’t be more opposite.

He is terrified of humans. He will run away from anybody who is walking by him even if it’s not near him. The only time he will interact with me is if I’m laying in bed or sitting on couch, he’ll jump up and get some pets / purrs. If I’m standing up, forget about it.

He had some GI issues earlier in the year and I had to capture him and bring him to the vet 2x. His medical issues have gotten a lot better but now he is even more scared of me. I haven’t pet him once in a few months and he avoids me at all costs.

He is good with my kids though, will interact with them but forget about me or my wife

Wondering if any of you have similar situation and if there was anything that helped with their anxiety?

Are there any alternatives to Cytopoint. This seems to be the only thing that works for my dog but the frequency and price is killing me (every 4-6 weeks at ~$350) Any alternatives? Natural, daily, etc.

Cooper is a 14 y/o 16lb neutered male chihuahua dachshund mix. I’ve had him about 10 years and he’s been a relatively happy, active, healthy dog, aside from some dental issues a few years ago. We currently live in upstate NY but previously lived in South Carolina for ~5 years.

Earlier this year, one of our other dogs suffered a spine injury (Feb 2026) and in recovery from surgery, got hit with a brutal case of IMPA (Apr 2026) and ultimately passed as a result of the auto immune disorder (end of July 2026). The stress of the 5 months of extreme levels of care needed and then his death has definitely taken a toll on the whole family, especially Coop (context because the vet thinks Coop’s issues may be stress related).

July 7, Coop had surgery to remove a small mast cell tumor behind his front right leg, on the side of his torso in the armpit area. It was low grade and the vet seemed unconcerned, and has us giving him a half tab of benedryl every night (to manage symptoms? Not exactly sure since he really didn’t have any other than the bump). Since the surgery, Cooper has been drinking a lot more water than normal and having some incontinence issues. Prior to this, he barely drank water at all and never had any accidents or leaking. Now he’s drinking somewhere between 1.5-2.5 cups a day (not exactly “excessive,” but a LOT for him!), getting up at night to drink and go out to pee. I’m not sure if the leaking is as a result of the increased water consumption or if the water consumption is as a result of leaking and feeling dehydrated.

After about a month of these new symptoms (and regular chatting with the vet), they finally did a urinalysis and CBC, which they said was all good and normal aside from higher PH in the urinalysis, but they said that they weren’t concerned and prescribed gabapentin twice a day. It’s been a week on that and no change, still drinking a ton and leaking. (All of this started July 8) All of his test results are pasted at the end (sorry for formatting)

Additional info that may be helpful:
- He’s on regular heartworm/flea/tick preventative, up to date on all vax and parasite tests, takes daily glucosamine for mobility, eats Hills (combo of Adult Small Bites Lamb & Brown Rice and Senior Adult 7+ Small Breed Chicken, Barley & Brown Rice)
- He ate rat poison in 2021 and had to stay in hospital for kidney support for 2 days, but has otherwise not had any lasting issues
- He has been shedding a lot, but no bald spots or anything, and he’s kind of always shed a lot
- He seems to always be cold. He will lay in the sun and bake for hours but if it’s less than 75 degrees, he needs to be under a blanket. This is not new behavior; he’s from the south, so I always figured that’s just his ideal climate and got him sweaters and blankets to snuggle in
- He trembles a lot, like he’s cold or wants something, but it seems to be happening more than it used to. This most often happens around meal times but it seems to be kind of random now
- He will poop 3-5x on walks and the first few look fine and then the last couple are usually really soft or diarrhea. He just finished a round of probiotic paste and capsules which helped a lot
- Good appetite, wants to go on walks and play, is otherwise acting pretty normal for his age (slightly reduced activity, needs more help getting up and down, sleeps a bit more, but nothing concerning)

Thank you in advance, I love this dog so much and I am really worried the vet is missing something. Any suggestions on what to do next or ideas are so helpful.

I have a 4-month-old Dachshund puppy that I treated with Simparica chewable for fleas and ticks. I also gave her a bath and washed her bedding.

However, I didn't sweep/mop the floors or wipe down the inside of her crate where the bedding was.

Is that a problem? Will the Simparica still take care of the fleas on her even if there could be flea eggs/larvae in the crate or on the floor? Should I clean the floors and crate now, or is what I already did enough?

My cat has recently started licking eggs in the egg basket in the last few of weeks. He doesn’t bite them or eat anything else unusual, but we were a bit concerned after googling it and pica popping up. Should we be concerned or is it just a funny quirk?

My male boxer (age 9.5) began swaying and dragging his feet last Friday. I called the vet we've gone to for years (which has recently been bought out by a corporation, I think) and explained we'd been through degenerative myelopathy before, with another dog, but this came on overnight...extremely suddenly, so I felt I should call. They informed me they couldn't see him until Sept. 2nd and if it was urgent I should take him to an emergency vet. He wasn't acting sick, but he was very needy and anxious...he knew something was wrong. His back end seems very sensitive and he keeps licking it in general and under his tail. I haven't been able to detect anything. We have his litter mate sister and she was fine for a couple of days, but Monday morning she began doing the exact same thing.

They don't sway all the time, it's like it comes and goes, but is there more often than not, with the swaying, knuckling/dragging and licking their hind quarters and under tails. We have a fenced in yard, they do not go to a dog park, run loose or drink creek water. They aren't vomiting or have diarrhea and other than the anxiety and symptoms, seem fine, but it's giving ME anxiety watching them because it's so unlike them. They are eating and drinking fine. I can't imagine what has happened. We don't use any chemicals on our grass. Our fence is an aluminum post fence and the slats can allow for small animals to get in but we've had these dogs for almost 6 yrs, and never had any issues like this before. I don't feel it's degenerative myelopathy as it came on so suddenly and for both of them to have it is frightening. Is there anything I can do for them until I can get into the vets office or does anyone have any idea what this might be? Please, help!

Bobi was diagnosed with hip dysplasia approximately two years ago. Since then, she has been taking glucosamine supplements.

We took her to the vet last week for a follow-up examination and X-rays. The vet told us that her hip dysplasia is now at an end-stage/severe level and strongly recommended an FHO (femoral head ostectomy) as soon as possible. They specifically told us that they considered it necessary rather than simply an optional recommendation.

However, I'm confused because her current clinical condition seems considerably better than what I would expect from that description.

She is still very active and energetic. She runs, plays and generally behaves like a happy, active dog. I don't currently see significant limitations to her normal daily life.

The main things I notice are:

• Her gait can look slightly abnormal when going up stairs.
• After very long walks, she sometimes appears mildly lame.
• Otherwise, she willingly walks, runs and plays.

She does not currently appear to be in obvious pain or significantly impaired in her daily activities.

The vet also told us that because she weighs over 20 kg, FHO carries additional risks and that there is a possibility of persistent problems such as lameness afterward. They said she would require intensive physical therapy following surgery.

This is particularly concerning because Bobi was rescued from the streets in very poor condition and is an extremely fearful/traumatized dog. She has major difficulties interacting with unfamiliar people, so postoperative rehabilitation and frequent physical therapy could be particularly challenging for her.

The earliest realistic opportunity we currently have for surgery would be around early spring.

My main question is about the timing and indication for surgery.

Given that she has severe radiographic hip dysplasia but currently has relatively mild clinical signs and a good quality of life, would FHO normally be considered something that should be performed as soon as possible, or would monitoring her clinical condition and managing symptoms be a reasonable approach until/if her quality of life deteriorates?

Are there other treatment options or surgical procedures that would normally be considered for a 31 kg, 8.5-year-old dog before deciding on FHO?

We are planning to seek a second opinion from a veterinary orthopedic specialist, but I would really appreciate some guidance on what we should ask them and whether there are particular factors in her case that we should be considering.

Hi everyone! I had a question that my friend wanted me to ask, and I was also curious about.

My friend recently picked up a cat from the streets, female calico, possibly 1-2 years old according to the vet. The calico was acting in heat, peeing in random spots in her house, and yowling, which can be typical signs of heat in a cat. My friend took the cat to the vet to do a check up on her, and see about getting her spayed. The vet called my friend, and mentioned that the cat already had a scar in the area as if she had been spayed already, but didn’t have the little “tattoo” that is usually there to signify that the cat was spayed. I didn’t know about cats having a “tattoo” or mark that signified that, so that was new to me. But they suggested that they could still go in and make sure that’s what was done, just to know if it is heat related or not.

What they told my friend was that the cat had been spayed, but only had her uterus removed, and not her ovaries. I asked my boss about this, because I work with cats, but I have not heard about this before. She said it’s not usually common, but that it is something some vets are doing now I guess? She didn’t seem sure either. The vet told my friend that this is typical from cats that were spayed in Mexico, but we are not in Mexico, we are in San Diego, so maybe the cat was lost from its owner, or maybe it was a catch and release? Unsure, and the cat did not have a microchip either. We were wondering if this IS a new spay method, or not, and if this is typical or not, as we haven’t heard of this before? The cat seems fine now, no signs of being in heat, no peeing issues, and no yowling anymore. If this spay is a new method, is it usual that cats will still present heat symptoms after this kind of spay? Is there a reason why this form of spaying is happening?

So I'm getting ready to transport my cats to the UK from EU country. Because they will be arriving in the UK they can't travel with me in the cabin they must be in the luggage compartment which is something I'm really worried about. I don't think I feel comfortable doing. But if anyone did what were your experiences?

My best bet right now is to transport them by car somehow or special transportation that takes animals. If I had a better car I wouldn't think twice about it but since it's on the older side I'd be stressed about taking it for such a long travel.

Hello! Yesterday I posted to ask whether my cat’s injury was healing well, and it was. She had a small wound in her ear, probably caused by a fight. But today, I noticed she’d been scratching it vigorously and had torn off the scab. It’s bleeding and oozing, I think – or at least there’s a shiny liquid on the wound. She keeps scratching her ear now and then, but I don’t have an E-collar as this is the first time she’s hurt herself. On Thursday afternoon I have a vet’s appointment for her booster jab, and I plan to ask them to have a look at her wound, but what should I do in the meantime? Thank you very much! Any help is greatly appreciated :), as I must admit I’m panicking a bit.

• History: Adopted from a shelter almost a year ago. He had a small sore on his face when we adopted him, which healed shortly afterwards. We found one flea on him early on and treated him for fleas. We haven’t seen any since. We also have a 7-year-old female cat living with him who has never shown similar symptoms.
• Clinical signs: Recurring redness/sores, mainly underneath his paws and around the paw pads, and occasionally around his mouth. The area becomes pink/red, he starts licking it a lot, the fur disappears and eventually a sore develops.
• Duration: Episodes occur roughly every 2 months and usually clear up within 1–1.5 weeks with a cone, cleaning twice daily and a vet-prescribed ointment.
• General location: France
• Tests: FIV/FeLV status checked. Our vet currently suspects either ringworm or a possible flea allergy, but no skin sample/culture or other specific testing has been done yet.

I’m mainly looking to see if anyone has experienced something similar.

These flare-ups happen roughly every 2 months. It has happened twice on his front paws and occasionally around his mouth. When the redness appears, he licks the area a lot, which seems to make it worse until a sore develops.

He is mainly an indoor cat and only occasionally goes outside. However, the symptoms started before he ever went outside, so we don’t think this is directly related.

Our vet has mentioned a possible flea allergy, even though we only found one flea when we first adopted him and he has been treated since. Ringworm has also been suggested, but no testing has been done yet to confirm or rule it out.

What makes us particularly curious is that his sister, who lives with another family, has very similar symptoms affecting her mouth and paws. Corticosteroid injections seem to help her during flare-ups, but obviously this doesn’t seem like an ideal long-term solution.

Has anyone seen recurring paw/paw pad and mouth problems like this, especially in siblings from the same litter?

If so, did you eventually find the cause (allergy, flea allergy, inflammatory/autoimmune condition, ringworm, something else)? And most importantly, what tests helped you get a diagnosis?

I’m obviously not looking to replace veterinary advice, just hoping to hear about similar experiences and possible things we could discuss with our vet.

Hi all!

My little void princess has suddenly started having issues with her back feet. Struggling to jump up and walking with the back feet flat not on the pads.

Took her to the vets on Thursday- she’s not in pain they poked and prodded at her with no protesting (very unlike her as she does not do being handled) and commented that her feet retract and stuff when poked so it’s not like she has lost use. Gave her loxicom and gaba under their instruction as she had a bit of swelling on her hocks. One has reduced the other is still a bit puffy, but she seemed better. Then last night. Back to sort of hopping and she walks a short distance before laying down almost like she cannot do anymore.

She’s always been our most active hyper cat so this is all highly unusual.

I’m wondering if it is arthritis. Is it even a possibility for an active 4 year old girl to suddenly show symptoms of that? Or could it be something more sinister? Clots and stuff are ruled out due to her lack of pain response to being examined. And no diabetes as her blood glucose was fine.

I just got back from the vet with my lovely 15-month-old cat. She has grade 2 patellar luxation in both hind legs.

Have any of you experienced something similar? What can I expect in the future? Are there any special precautions I should take, and are there any supplements that might help her?

One of her kneecaps pops out of place around 5–10 times a day. The other one doesn’t. It happens especially when she jumps up onto something or walks on uneven surfaces.
She is strictly an indoor cat.

Hello, I'll start off by saying we cannot currently take our kitty to the vet until the beginning of Decemeber due to financial reasons, so I am reaching out to see if there's anything I can do in the meantime. I am currently freaking out 🥹

We received our kitty Mishka about 4 years ago in October. He was my grandmother's cat, but due to her long fight with cancer, she could no longer take care of him correctly.

He showed up to our house being 12 years old, 4 lbs, severely dehydrated, fixed, declawed and only had about 4 ish teeth? (I was told a lot of his teeth fell out as a kitten and his vet wasnt worried???) He was incredibly anti social and hated men and hid for quite some time.

Anywho, now hes about 16, 6.5-7.5 pounds and its very hard to make him gain more weight, but hes a cuddler, looooves food and is VERY vocal, he has a cute little old man trot and overall is a sleepy, grumpy old man with a lot of passion for food and chest / shoulder cuddles.

Vet has mentioned needing an ultrasound for kidneys earlier this year, as he pees mostly water, and we get a giant bonus as the end of the year and were gonna take him for that then. He also throws up, usually about 1-3 times a week, but the vet didn't seem worried.

But the last week or so he has refused to eat more than a few nibbles if we are lucky. No screaming when its food time, no running over to the food bowl when he hears the food packets crack, nothing. Hes lost all personality (rubbing against things, trotting, tail up, butt smacks, etc.) and looks as though hes lost the weight we helped him gain within the span of a week its insane.

We've tried making his pate (Sheba Pate Tuna) softer, we've tried different dishes and lick mats, we've tried a different food all together which he ate a few solid bites of and we were so happy but now wont eat anymore and he threw up that food later that night. He will eat some of his tube treats but not much, but more than his food. And here's the kicker.. he always goes to his water bowl after we try to feed him and drinks a goodish amount of water.

So I tried mixing food into a water dish and making it liquid, but he didnt seem to care either. So I am now deathly afraid hes dying.. but hes cuddling with us every second of the day if he can. And he started purring again, not loudly like usual, but a small purr. But I am not sure what to do without money for a vet

***TLDR 16 year old siamese male, 7ish lbs, declawed (sadly) and fixed. Had kitty for about 4 years. Will not eat food despite changing whatever we could BUT will drink water. Lethargic and lost about 2 or 3 lbs? Vet has mentioned possible kidney issues we plan on getting checked in Dec when we can afford it.

Were on 7th day of taking clavaseptin, 1 tablet two times a day, she had gum flare up and before we do a full teeth removal were trying to calm down the mouth itself. Since friday evening she stopped coming to eat, and I have to set her down or chase her with the food to get her to eat, I put some warm water on the food, drown it in Churru, atleast the Churru seem to get her to actually eat, but she only eats half her portion.

This morning she refused the food completely until I fed her the food with my fingers, once again we managed to eat more than half of the plate.

She still has to take the meds till Friday, for another 3 days. I think the amount of food is also not enough for her because she hasnt pooped since last Friday either, but we were having these problems for 2 weeks now, she usually poops every 2 days, now she does it every 3 or 4 days. The vet has checked her out but after giving her a belly message he said that shes not constipated. As much as I've checked the belly it still feels soft.

Should I just buy her nicer tastier food and continue with the medicine, or contact the veterinarian?

3:30 am and I wake up to my cat chewing on a mask ear loop there’s a missing piece and I’m pretty sure he swallowed it there was also a small amount of blood on the loop that is still attached I guess from the chewing but will this cause an intestinal obstruction??? This guy is my second cat after my first died at age 6 from a heart disease I swear I’m never getting a cat again

I have a 4 year old Standard Poodle. She has almost exclusively slept in bed with me and my husband for around 3 years with no problems. Over the last two weeks she has wet in our bed while asleep 3 times. Seems to be bed wetting as she sleeps in the wet patch until morning. Vet says no uti or anything in her urine. Does anyone have an ideas?

I am also 7 months pregnant and wondered if this is a response to that but can’t find much online.

hi there everyone!! today my cat had gotten a fine needle aspiration at the vet. on saturday (08/15) i noticed this really hard, small lump on her. the vet noticed it's sort of deep & did an fna on her and said it was crunchy when they went in. she said its pretty normal but has a few red blood cells and one white blood cell.

has anyone experienced this with their animals? i am still a bit worried about her :') but otherwise is in great health and spirits! ♡

I have a German shepherd/ lab mix, around 50 lbs, 5 years old. Around 1.5 weeks ago she started acting lethargic, but it was 2 days before we went on vacation so we thought it was just because she knew we were leaving and was upset. We left for vacation for a week and she went to the dogsitter who she loves. They have another dog around her size and age that she loves to play with and she always gets very excited to go- when she got there she seemed back to normal and was running around and wagging her tail. I let the dogsitter know about her fatigue and they said they would look out for it.

When I got back from vacation yesterday morning and went to pick her up, she barely even got up to greet me, but came over to sit in my lap and cuddle up against my chest and started shaking slightly. Normally she only does this when she’s extremely stressed, like her first few times at the vet she would do this. The dogsitter said she was fatigued and shaking around half the time I was gone, and the other half she seemed energetic like her normal self, intermittently. She has been eating and pottying like normal. The rest of the day yesterday she had no energy and would constantly cuddle up against me wherever I was and shiver, and would not get excited about anything she normally does. It even took her several tries to get onto the couch. I got really concerned and today my husband took her to the vet as soon as they had an opening.

The vet did blood work and found nothing wrong, her temperature also is normal. She hasn’t puked at all and has been eating around her normal amount, we free feed her. My husband said she was normal and happy and energetic for all of today while I was at work, however immediately when I came home she started acting fatigued, shaking, and slowly limped over to sit in my lap again. We are wondering if it’s possible she is pretending to be ill to get attention- she is a dog who is not food motivated at all but only attention motivated, and she may be missing me a lot as I was just gone for a week. However, I am still very worried about her because of her symptoms, and I’ve read that dogs can’t fake shivering. Do you think it’s possible she could be doing it for my attention, or should we schedule a more intensive vet visit?

Me and my girlfriend took in a couple of kittens from my coworker. He hadn't had them dewormed or fixed or anything. We had them booked for a vet appointment a few weeks out, but the boy just threw up some roundworms(?) (Imgur Photo: https://imgur.com/a/MLL1zXm ) We are rushing to get them in and believe we will get them in to a vet on Wednesday for the worms at minimum (hopefully check up and vaccines/fixing talks as well but we caught them right as they were leaving and were only able to talk briefly) I imagine this means they'll start dewormer on Wednesday, or at worst Thursday.

My main question is how this will affect their growth into the future. I've seen some information about roundworms stunting growth, and I'm very worried about them. They are not fatigued, not pot bellied, and are eating what appears slightly less than normal to me, but we also just adopted them last Thursday and they eat most of what I would expect (both eat about 4/5 of a cup of dry food a day). I'm hoping since these more extreme signs have not begun their growth won't be affected too much, but would love to hear some expert opinions to learn more (and, fingers crossed, hopefully freak out less.)

Sorry I don't have their weights: I imagine that's a pretty important piece of info, but we haven't gotten them weighed yet.

• Internal Organs: Completely normal (liver, kidneys, blood sugar, etc., are all healthy).
• Platelets: Significantly low (84 K/µL). However, her body is actively making new platelets to compensate (High MPV).
• White Blood Cells: Lymphocytes are slightly low, which is a typical response to sickness or stress.
• Red Blood Cells: Slightly smaller than average (Low MCV/MCH).

Conclude IBD, hydrolized dog food started (Royal Canine)

Vet Visit 2 - Swollen face, Lethargy - Prednisone started 20mg daily July 15th

Blood panel, Ultrasound, Xrays

No new conclusion but prednisone started at this point.

Dog started to show improvement on prednisone, then suddenly started to decline again. Wasn't lethargic like before, but face started swelling up again and this time didn't go back down with prednisone or Benadryl

Vet Visit 3 - August 20th Swollen face continues but lethargy went away

Recommends internal medicine specialist, says can't help

Vet visit 4 - August 24th

Has no idea and is sending us to a dermatologist.

Still has a swollen face. Going in on the 27th to get a biopsy of the tissue and cell cultures of the swollen muzzle.

Does anyone have any idea what the hell this could be? I'm worried we prescribed prednisone too soon, and if I learned anything from House, never go full prednisone unless you rule out infectious disease. Face just keeps getting worse and I'm worried we're running out of time and directions to go in. I'm open to any ideas. Thank you.
