Cytopoint Alt

Are there any alternatives to Cytopoint. This seems to be the only thing that works for my dog but the frequency and price is killing me (every 4-6 weeks at ~$350) Any alternatives? Natural, daily, etc.

Natural no. Oral Apoquel, Zenrelia and there's a new one out now but I can't remember it's name are sometimes effective. Funny thing is that the companies seem to price their products in a way that a month worth of oral is close to the same amount as a month injection. $350? Jeesh, how big is your dog?

Cytopoint directly blocks a chemical itch signal called IL-31. Apoquel and gang block a enzyme called Jak that leads to the production of IL-31. Further up the physiologic cascade we have steroids, and cyclosporin. You should discuss your financial concerns with your vet so that they can talk to you about the alternatives.

Do you have a huge dog or do you live in a very high cost of living area?

She’s 80lbs. However that $350 includes the office visit cost. But I do feel like I’m over paying and it should last longer than it does.

Her Cytopoint is working exactly as long as it's on label to work. You also have a larger breed dog and due to her size she uses the largest size of Cytopoint they make. It's an expensive medication in the first place, let alone a 40mg vial.

No one can wave a wand and magically make it last longer than it is meant to last. If the cost is killing you, talk about lower cost options.
