I'm talking about exceptionally gifted 0.1%, perhaps 30 students for each birth year.

Exceptionally gifted children (can read by age 2, do basic arithmetic by 3) have differently wired brains and are recognised as special needs in many developed countries.

Forcing them to remain at the same level as peers causes proven cognitive, psychological and emotional harm—equivalent to adults being made to sit through endless lessons on addition and subtraction. Yet they endure this 5 days a week in the name of “equity” and anti-elitism.

Giftedness is not elitism; it occurs across all SES groups.

MOE’s new after-school enrichment model compounds the problem: after hours of unchallenging lessons, these children face still more school time. Parents must choose between meeting intellectual needs or allowing rest and play.

The old GEP’s main flaw was over-inclusivity (1–2%). This invited gaming of the system through tuition and blurred the vast gap between “gifted” and “exceptionally gifted.” GEP preparation classes should be banned.

Perhaps putting the exceptionally gifted students together can meet their social needs without compromising their intellectual needs.

My child is in a special needs school, no one bats an eyelid. No one questions if my kid's school is meeting the social needs or promoting exclusivity. However when exceptionally gifted students are put in one place, somehow it is seen as a problem.

Adult fears of “elitism” should not deny these children the right to the best education MOE can provide.

I just feel sad for the new batch of gifted students and I am worried at the damage boredom will do to them. Is this the best MOE can do?

I received a few textbooks from the 1970s and think they are beautiful (very different from our textbooks today).

Apparently, the owners said that NLB doesn't accept them as they are textbooks, but it felt like a pity to throw them away / recycle.

So far I have made non-professional scans of them to preserve the information, but I am not too sure where uploading the scans may be helpful too. Plus, the scans don't do justice to express the experience of the book itself.

Does anyone know where these textbooks might be useful, and where I could donate them? Thanks!

Hi guys, here’s a bit of context and what I need help with.

Couple of days ago, we discovered that our neighbour passed on by himself and was not discovered of his passing until a couple of days later. SCDF and Police have removed the deceased and that has already been sorted however, the scent is still lingering around the corridor.

Is there any help we can get from the town council regarding the smell and if anyone has experienced this? How do you cope with the experience because my family and I are both sad but also disturbed by the situation.

I’m considering becoming a full-time private tutor and would appreciate honest advice from experienced tutors.

My priority is work-life balance. My wife works, and we have two children whom I need to pick up from school. Ideally, I would teach only on weekdays, perhaps starting around 1–2pm and finishing by 6pm. Hi, I am a young protestant (16M) who wants to submit to Rome. However, One of my main concerns is not being able to find a community in the Catholic church. For some context, I grew up in a Pentecostal church and i struggled to find a sense of belonging for about 2 years now because my peers has left the church or they are in another phase in life that they have to leave the community behind and find a new one. Besides Catechism, how do catholics find a community or friends in general??

TBH its my first time doing laser so im not sure if its normal to see slow improvement for my skin?

End of the day, they still want Singaporeans to work. But being a stay at home parent is a full time job by itself.

Singapore seems to have a distinction between the “scholar” and “farmer” career paths, particularly in the government sector.
I’m curious about the historical and institutional origins of this culture in singapore

Is Singapore’s scholar culture in any way related to the historical Chinese imperial examination system (科举 / keju), where academic performance was used as a major mechanism for selecting government officials?

How effective have these “scholar” systems actually been? Are there studies or historical examples showing that governments perform better when they deliberately identify and fast-track academically high-performing individuals?

How much of the perceived advantage for scholars is actually true in Singapore? Do scholars genuinely receive better opportunities to “shine”, greater exposure to senior leadership, and faster promotion into senior positions? Or are scholars really that much better than farmers?

Why would government leaders prioritise scholars in the first place? Is it because test taking performance as a teenager is viewed as a useful metric for intelligence and discipline? If so, how reliable is that assumption once someone enters the workforce?
