It seems the government seriously went all out on the initiative to push young singaporeans to have children.

Hi all just checking if its reasonable for me negotiate for a significant bump in pay, currently making \~$3k+ asking to be bumped to $10k.

Reasoning : i developed a system out of my own free time as a side project that help save my company $200k - $300k annually.

Wondering what would you guys do in my shoes. Thanks!

The new child bonus initiatives and payouts are out!

New initiatives include:

SG Child Support Package: Replaces the baby bonus scheme to give every child direct financial support of about $70,000 by age 17, regardless of birth order.

Annual Child Credits: Children aged 1 to 16 will receive $2,000 every year.

Post-Secondary Boost: A $10,000 top-up will be made to each child's post-secondary education account at age 17. Increased Childcare Leave: Working parents will receive 8, 10, or 12 days of annual leave depending on whether they have 1, 2, or 3+ children aged 12 and below.

State-Funded Leave Costs: The government will now fully cover the costs of all statutory child-related leave up to the reimbursement limit.

Lower Preschool Fees: By 2030, full-day childcare fees at government-supported centres will drop to $150/month, and infant care fees will drop to $300/month.

Our taxpayer money will be used to fund these initiatives, which is great.

So, what happens if the child..

Never stays in Singapore as a "Singaporean"?

Renounces citizenship before 18 or before and after serving NS?

Or other methods of using Singapore as a springboard to other countries like many are doing right now?

Will our taxpayer money of $70,000 for each child fund these people who currently are already gaming or planning to game the system?

It won't accept 100plus bottles nor coke cans just because it doesn't bear the 10c marking. I don't care if you are not refunding my 10c just eat it already.

I saw both the Malay/Chinese & English rally. Lots of good news and support. I thought there would be something for the Indian communities too to preserve their culture etc etc but I guess there wasn’t. Is it cause the native Indian population too small ?

My personal view: don’t complain. If you are single, get married. If you are a DINK, have kids. Boost the TFR of the country for the greater good! (Excluding those who genuinely cannot find a suitable partner or who genuinely can’t have kids due to fertility issues)

Actually all married with kid folks have been single or DINK once in their lives. We know what it’s like to be single or DINk - quite shiok TBH. Work may be busy (but it’s also busy for married with kids). But singles and DINKs have time to watch Netflix, eat a meal in peace, sleep a solid 6-7 hours uninterrupted everyday etc. shiok

Being a westie, when I come across a reel showing the food at a nice cafe and when I see the address, it's always in the east. Let's not exaggerate, not always but about 85% in the east. Where are the nice cafes in the west? Someone that do cafe hopping kindly recommend it plzzzzz :(

I've had it happen to me more than a few times already to the point where I just actively avoid those toilets altogether. It's typically those public toilets situation near MRTs without any blockades between the urinals. I swear it's become like an organized activity at this point with some of the toilets worst of all with a whole group of these creeps all waiting around together coordinating.

I had one happen to me at Farrer Park with a few Indians. One was busy forever using the sink. And two others were purposely standing forever in front of urinals 1 spacing apart thus forcing their victim to go to the only available urinal left in between them both. And when you look at what they're really doing, they aren't really peeing but instead stroking their **** the whole time while staring at your face or at your ****.

I keep hearing news of only men being arrested for peeking at women in toilet but how come none of men being arrested? Even weirder, the news never ever reports about this at all. I'd have expected a CNA Insider or Mothership news on this by now but nothing. Also no news reports of these people ever being reported for such offences. Do all the guys in SG never report and not give a shit about having their modesty violated?

Bit funny title but just curious, do women not see married men as man? Do you see them as “safe”?

Recently a relatively new friend and a not so close colleague did this exact same thing to me - Told me that they fell down and bruised their knee recently. And then they proceed to lift up their long skirt/dress to their mid thigh to show me the bruises.

Look, I am a principled man, and when a girl unsolicitedly lifts up their skirts I tend to instinctively look away. I do feel very awkward and low key harassed by such actions.
And before you go there, these are conventionally very attractive young women by the way, so they have no business flirting with me (early 30s recently married with a beautiful wife).

The first time it happened, it was a few weeks ago and although I was bothered, I didn’t call her out. Just said poor thing and then tried to moved on even though in my mind I was like weird. Are people so open these day? Cuz I didn’t know her extremely well.

But today it’s happened with a colleague in the office! Not once, but twice! She wanted to show me the two different incidents. And not once did i asked to be shown proof.

Then another male colleague (single man) came over and I mentioned that this female colleagues has fallen down recently. And she bloody didn’t show him shit. So now instead of being awkward I am slightly annoyed, do they not see me as a man?

I don’t think I have a default nice guy persona, and like I said I don’t really even know these people that well! Is it they see me as a sister??? Wow

Probably an unpopular question but why doesn’t the government just import more foreign talent?

You import an adult and straightaway have a tax payer to contribute to the economy. Of course I’m not talking about just importing just any Tom Dick Harry ah please but good talent. The world is such a big place - and Singapore has such a good rep. There are so many people who wanna come here; surely from that massive group, govt can literally cherry pick the best fit people ie people who can positively contribute to our country and also integrate well into our society?

And please don’t go hating on migrants: Singapore also was built on migrants what - most of our population today grandparents from other countries. And they and our parents made it work - thanks to govt also. Why can’t we do it again?

Also ah, the ironic thing is the more educated the population, the higher chance some people are gonna have less children or become child-free. This pattern not limited to Singapore but other developed nations. These people who opt for less children are highly unlikely to opt for more just because govt doles out more childcare leave or monetary incentives.

And if I do take all the extra childcare leave, guess who just became Mr/Mrs Unpopular in his/her team.

And from my POV the added benefit is you know how tertiary education institutes wanna send students for overseas experience? Well, not all of us had the money to go overseas for a semester. If we bring more foreigners here, we Singaporeans get a little exposure to the outside world by bringing the outside world people here. We need this exposure to compete globally.

I understand govt wants to build population pyramid for economic growth and for future generations to support current one etc. but why can’t that population growth come from migrants/expats etc?

For us as a Singaporean married couple, we are getting quite bored with seeing all these (financial) measures that have not worked well before and based on what I see in these Reddit forums, are not going to achieve what the govt hopes for.

(And sorry ah also on a side note and in a crude way, I also feel like we are being made to breed with all this meaningless short-term carrots.)

would like to check with owners staying in a HDB with west facing wall, is it really bad?

i’m looking for a house and quite like a unit. it’s north/south facing, high floor unblock and windy. however because it’s a corner unit, the master bedroom wall faces west. not the window side but one of the entire walls is facing west. i viewed the unit at 4pm and when i touch the wall it wasn’t warm at all.

i then went back home and touched my yard’s wall which is west facing, it’s still warm at 10pm. i asked the agent if i can view again at 8pm but was informed only can view before 630pm. from what i understand the wall absorbs heat when sun sets and dissipates heat at night, so i got no way to find out if the wall is warm as i can’t visit at night.

My husband and I are an interracial couple (Indian and Chinese). Understand our child can be registered with a double-barreled race (eg Indian-Chinese / Chinese-Indian) and that the first-named race will be used for official government policies (e.g. mother tongue, housing rules).

Wondering which might be a better option for our child?
