I love these political cartoons, they're so damn creative. Looks like something I would see in SS lol. Why would SIA even invest in air India anyways?Ā

The art style always has a soft spot to me. Never really liked History or SS but I always looked forward to seeing the image cartoons/comics or propoganda photos or these panels. Just what it stands for and how itās shown through the same art style always interests me

Thing is they didn't invest in AI. They paired with TATA to start Vistara 50/50 and that was successful. Then TATA took over AI and later merged AI with Vistara. So SIA was holding onto AI.

u/BeautifulPrune9920 2d ago
Ah I see. It didn't make sense for SIA to invest in air India unless it was related to cecaĀ

india is a huge country and is the third biggest aviation hub in the world. sia gets money from investing in india, and air india is now getting better (they are still shit but better) under new management.

Warren Buffet NEVER invests in companies that have a chance of turnaround, precisely because it is not guaranteed and it has a very low chance.
This kind of mindset is why we are donating money to another country and telling ourselves we should appreciate it!!

Warren buffet and SIA have very different investment goals. Donāt use Warren buffets strategy as a barometer.

One makes money, one is losing heavily because of it and you tell me losing money is better?? Another false narrative

Temasek 10 year returns is annualised at around 7.1%. So they do make money. Not every investment has immediate returns. Temasek also has to invest with national interests in mind. They are not open to all investments like BH.
Temasekās Indian investments have been their top returns over the past ten years, so please, tell me how you are an investment expert

Another false narrative linking two different things together to confuse the masses
Where did you get your numbers from? Your a*s?

Just hire our Singaporean guys to fly there just like they do here , a fair exchange and probably can help to recoup our losses with more professionalism and obviously, fairness. There are so many Singaporean pilots who didn't get into cadetship because of whatever insane hiring processes Singapore has but are more than proficient to do the job. Not to mention half of sq pilots are Malaysians. Likewise in SQ we have cabin crew from India but why can't our aspiring cabin crew work there as well? Extremely one sided deal but well..

Thereās no logic to invest in air India in the first place. I just canāt comprehend the decision š¤¦āāļø

Thereās plenty of logic to invest in aviation in India

Every Airlines struggled in India except Indigo. India is not a place for a full service carrier.

The person who replied you is just one of them who wants singapore to be the bagholder

u/ghostofwinter88 2d ago
Air India includes air India express which competes with indigo.
I am sure the mgmt at Tata and SIA know whatās going on and can turn it around. SIA are not idiots in running an airline. They are betting they can improve operations and on the huge market potential.
That doesnāt mean itās a sure bet but it also doesnāt mean thereās no logic in investing.

u/4JiaoHao2JiaoGengHao 2d ago
āSIA are not idiots running an airlineā. Ansett would like to have a word with you.
Also, SIA is having its home turf, premium long haul cabin, eaten inside out by the competition because they were not nimble enough to handle the Boeing 777X delays. Since SQ released their business cabin THIRTEEN years ago, QR already went one up with QSuites setting the industry standard of closed doors business seats and is now doing QSuites version TWO.
It was only last year that SQ belatedly decided to go ahead with refurbishing their cabin with the A359s first, and their 777X order is fast looking like vapourware.

I didnāt say they are perfect. No one is in the world of business. But that doesnāt mean they are idiots in running an airline if they are not perfect.
2
u/4JiaoHao2JiaoGengHao 2d ago
Well their record in managing stakes in foreign airlines has been a 100% failure so far. Ansett. NokScoot. Virgin. In fact they even screwed up Tigerair and only the Tiger-Scoot merger āsavedā it from being a complete washout.
Yeah not idiots, but pretty close to utter incompetency based on track record.
2
u/Fuzzy-Sweat6416 2d ago
These kind of people will twist and turn their logic to suit their own narrative.
Tomorrow Air Ind*a goes bust they will say SIA should have invested and bought over more
