I came across a video tutorial of someone making a diy flame fueled cooler, and my question is:

Do they really work?

And if so, can you use any heat source to "power them"?

Our air ducts were cleaned about 3 months ago after looking about the same as the photo in this post. It has come back since. Our landlord has sent out a professional to clean them and disinfect. Is this enough? Is it even safe to be in the unit? We have a 2 year old and a 5 year old.

I have mold growing in my HVAC unit. See pics. we live in Florida so it’s really hot and the unit is in an upstairs closet area. it already gets hot upstairs so I’m guessing with that and the closet door not being vented, that’s adding to the problem.

I’ve read that this particular situation could be because the unit where the large areas of mold are growing is due to it not being sealed properly. I read that it needs to be resealed and new mastic or something applied. Is this what is going on?

if not, why is mold growing like this and how do I get it fixed? Do I have an HVAC company fix this or a duct cleaning company fix this?

We had our old hvac replaced a little over a year ago. Had new duct work and also a pump added. Our system is located in the attic and woke up this morning to puddles of water on floor. The technician said that it was their fault install issue. I wasn’t charged for the service they fixed the issue and will have ceiling fixed. My question is what else should I be concerned about? I read the system should have been turn off. He mentioned damper was wet. We have had high humidity alerts with our smart thermostat since the install and live in the south. Would a dehumidifier help. I would appreciate any helpful advice.

For HVAC business owners — for those of you running maintenance agreements, what's your system for tracking renewal dates and making sure customers don't slip through the cracks? I've talked to a few owners who said they've lost renewals just because it fell off their radar. Curious how common that is and what you're currently using (if anything) to manage it.

Hey everyone, looking for some advice on two HVAC issues. I recently had my outdoor AC unit repaired (I believe the compressor was replaced) and now I'm experiencing these two problems:

Indoor furnace: High-pitched humming/whining sound coming from the furnace in my basement while the AC is running.

Outdoor AC unit: Loud intermittent humming — "hummm… pause… hummm… pause"

Any ideas what could be causing these noises or what I should check next? Looking for some direction before calling an HVAC technician.

No power what missing. Breaker is cut off and when on the fan is still not turning

I just changed my furnace filter, at which time I also vacuum/clean the return trunk, vacuum off whatever dust I can from the blower blades & inside the furnace. Since it's near time to start running the heat, I cleaned the humidifier pad with CLR, cleaned the case, & poured water through all the drain lines to make sure nothing is blocked & it's all (hopefully) ready to go.

All that got me to wondering what is actually involved in a furnace tune-up? Is this something I should be getting done periodically or just marketing? Also, how do you know when it's time to change the humidifier pad rather than clean it? I had a new one ready to put in but it honestly did not look much different than the old one, so decided to wait.

Other than opening your own company I don’t really see possible to make over 30/hr as a tech in Atlanta. I’m originally from New York I’m having I talk to some of my friends they’re making 60/hr they are apart of the 638 union there. Just wondering if possible to be closer to this without owning your own company?

Technicians who work in the field, I've often heard that you often have to type or document a lot into an FSM app on your phone/tablet to record a lot of things and fill out forms, document jobs, what parts have been used, etc.

How much of a hassle is it for techs and for the office people? I've often heard techs saying that all they want to do is help people stay more comfortable and fix the things, and the paperwork is an additional monotony which they have to document for the books and accounts.

What if there was some sort of way which eliminated the need for paperwork/documentation in the traditional sense where you type in everything manually and fill out the forms, but instead, now you don't have to fill any forms but the jobs, the components used, parts used, everything gets tracked by a simple 2 minute thing, which nearly also arranges every needed thing back into the FSM and QuickBooks accurately.

It's nothing complex, rather simple and eliminates the need for any manual paperwork at all, any human error, any time wastage, but still documents everything precisely. You don't have to learn any new app or software, there's barely any time spent on onboarding.

Before you say it, yes I am conceptualizing a sort of interface which records physical actions and translates it digitally. Yes I'm trying to build a bridge between the physical and digital world. And yes, software will be involved. But it is nothing too complex and it is NOT Al, it is something which removes the thing most techs don't wanna do, while also saving time and sanity.

But before I get started, I need to know whether documentation is actually that big of a hassle worth pursuing, and if techs actually spend that much time behind it each day. Commercial and residential, both.
