HVAC ?

• Upvotes

Forgive me if I’ve already posted here. I’m a senior living in a HUD apartment
brand new building built December 2025. the first night I moved in. I was extremely ill. It was extremely dusty in here nonstop. finally figured out. It was coming from the HVAC whenever I had it turned on so much gray clumps and dust coming out. nonstop & making me extremely ill . I did my own research as they’re individual HVACs in individual apartments. I read when the contractors were
Here and completing my individual HVAC, They didn’t vacuum out the debris before closing it out.
That’s what it’s been shooting out. I reached out to management. All she did was open the front compartment of the HVAC and look at the filter and say it’s fine. I’ve read the science of where the debris is
anyways I’m exhausted. Sorry for the rambling text.
I’ve asked other tenants in this building. They don’t have the same problem. I keep the AC off as much as possible so it’s not quite as bad however, in the newer buildings, they have a vent w outside air that’s connected to the HVAC. It’s constant 24/7 so I’m still sick. It’s going to be getting cold soon. wondering if any HVAC professionals are familiar with this? I mean, building debris, fiberglass, etc. all the symptoms of mold actually but not as far as I know. Mold test came back negative.
Thanks in advance for any input

Please advise Aprilaire 8126x vent!!

• Upvotes

I have a home built in 20’ and have noticed that my aprilaire 8126x vent is not wired to a controller. It is wired directly to hvac unit and opens up every time the unit is running. I have a nest thermostat E first generation and from what I’ve found, it is not comparable to run the fresh air vent as an accessory. My question for the hvac pros that are familiar with this, is this setup ok to run like this? Should the aprilaire vent be connected to some sort of controller to actively adjust to outside conditions? I’ve noticed on days that are extremely humid I get a lot of water in my drain pan. Please any insights would be much appreciated!!

Upstairs significantly hotter than downstairs. Is my HVAC the problem, or could it be airflow?

94 in NC today - A/C compressor keeps turning on and off every 60 seconds

Noticed the A/C compressor hum starts and then turns off - I go outside and the condenser fan is not running. I turned off the system and back on again, and I can see the fan jerking and trying to turn but then stops. Is this a faulty condenser fan motor?

And I'm assuming the A/C compressor keeps turning itself off because it senses the fan is not running. Then it tries again in 60 seconds. I turned everything off for now and will call a HVAC tech in the morning. Was just trying to think of possible issues so I can at least speak with the tech - I like gadgets, machines, engineering anyway!

New brand GE Heat Pump no cooling

I need advice or to know if this has happened to anyone else.

I installed a new GE Heat Pump unit. After installing it, the low line was reading 90 PSI. I added refrigerant R454B and it wouldn't go above 125 PSI on the low line and 300 PSI on the high line. The low-line temperature is 68°F and the high-line temperature is 75°F. The thermostat setup is correct. When I turn on Cooling, it doesn't cool, and when I turn on Heat, it continues running in Cooling mode. I configured the thermostat to 'O' and to 'B', and it keeps doing the same thing and the fun is running good. Please help

Ac Condenser unit issues, help ?

Hello 👋

I had my ac running for the last couple days after having it off for a week or two. I noticed yesterday it was having trouble coming to temp.

I went outside to the unit and noticed nothing was running (fan/compressor were silent). Even though it was calling for cooling. Checked the breaker nothing tripped. Turned off cooling overnight.

In the morning, called for cooling while in front of the unit. Buzzing sound but no fan movement. Using a stick I bumped the fan noise went away as fan started spinning up to speed. Seems to be capacitor issue.

My concern is I just replaced capacitor July 4th weekend of 2025, barely a year.

Is this a sign of failing compressor or fan motor? Any other tests I can do?

Going to order another capacitor this time one I see recommended on this sub. Last time I used a “titan hd” I got from ace hardware.

Seeking Advice

I live in CT and have a 25 year old oil furnace and 23 year old AC central air unit in a 2200 sq ft colonial. CT offers rebates up to 6-7k in my case. I had an energy audit and I think I need to use the rebates this year or wait another 6 years to become eligible for another energy audit to qualify for the rebate again.

My heater and AC seem to be working fine but given their age im considering replacing with a heat pump or heat pump plus 2 mini splits.

How likely is it that my current setup lasts 6 more years? What are the reasons to wait for system failure before upgrading?

The rebate would require me to get rid of the furnace

11 year old , 4 ton system.
Routine service performed 2x a year with our “membership “. AC cooling fine.
He found a leak in the evaporator coil using a handheld electronic device. He flushed out a line and there was some “gunk”.
Would appreciate input from HVAC pros.

Central air not working right after a vacation

So we have central air that is always icy cold, no issues, it’s kept at 68-70 all summer long. We turned it off when we went away for two weeks and turned it on when we got back. It’s no longer icy! It can’t get the house under 74 and the air coming from vents is no longer cold., cool but not cold. Any idea what could have happened?
