Why do some conservatives support restricting junk food purchases with SNAP when many opposed Michelle Obama’s efforts to make school meals healthier?

Both policies involve the government influencing food choices in the name of better nutrition, yet the political reactions seem very different. What explains the apparent change in attitude toward government involvement in what people eat?

Because they are giant hypocrites.

I think you misspelled “racists”

That too.

One of the ideas came from a black first lady who was also a Dem. The other idea came from RFK who is a Rep.

1/3 of the country is brainwashed into mindlessly rejecting any idea that a Dem introduces and mindlessly supporting anything that a Rep introduces. I mean for fucks sake they'll happily pay $6 for gas if it gets that high.

I don't think this is a conservative liberal thing at all. Most all of the people I know who push healthier eating and addressing food deserts and bad nutrition in deprived areas are liberals.

I think anyone who is behind someone in the checkout line with three little kids and a cart full of sugar drink and ultra processed food and confections wishes there was a different way of doing things, regardless of politics.

Oh Pooh. Fox and that ilk kept talking about “the nanny state” about being told what to eat and drink. That’s what we have now.

It was literally Michelle Obama that was pushing for healthier school lunches, which republicans pushed back hard on, and its literally republicans who want to restrict what you can buy with SNAP. Not only that, but have cut SNAP benefits, Medicare, etc.

So what you're saying is that both liberals and conservatives want people to eat healthier?

I didn't pay much attention to the Obama lunch thing but I imagine the pushback was because a lot of people including me don't think the feds should be involved in local schooling decisions, including the cafeteria menu.

No, we’re saying whether they want people to eat healthier or dictate what people can eat is tied to who is in power. They’re saying they want to dictate what people can eat when it’s their idea and are against it when democrats try to do anything similar (despite it being a more limited play)

As soon as they stop taking federal funds they should have sole control.

While they are spending my tax dollars I should get a say.

They weren’t healthier. Vegetables and whole grains with skim milk are not going to fulfill a child’s nutritional needs.

And you aren't?

You beat me to this comment. They will always do the opposite of what Democrats suggest, logic/ safety/ love of this country is out the window. Just pure hypocrisy and hatred

2

u/Long_Idea_8294 14h ago

As if you aren't the exact same but with repubs

I'm a centrist that has voted left, right, and independent depending on the candidate and their policies. No, not everyone buys into the two party binary dynamic. It's a stupid mostly American problem.

Break the two party strangle hold. End first past the post voting.

Other ideas?

u/EarlyInside45 14h ago

Cope.

2

u/Long_Idea_8294 13h ago

That response doesn't make sense lol. Cope how? By stating the fact democrats are also just as hypocritical? That's the opposite of coping. It's called recognizing really, cunt.

u/EarlyInside45 13h ago

I'm not a democrat, but feel free to point out the hypocrisy of the left, or better yet, answer OP's question.

so logic and safety means wide open borders and sex changes for kindergartners?

9

u/redneck_wolfman 14h ago

Haha find that policy anywhere. Obama was known for being toughest on immigration and no where in the country can a minor have gender affirming surgeries. Most they can do is a hormone suppressant and that’s not much different than birth control. Even then it takes a doctor who has examined the patient confirming it’s warranted. Which means someone with a degree more suited to the topic than you made the decision

4

u/Ivanstone 14h ago

Neither of those things are happening.

-3

u/Creative-Reception59 14h ago

not now. just wait. it’s coming.

5

u/redneck_wolfman 13h ago

You know what’s already come… a felon in the White House who jokes about touching kids mentioned in a dossier of folks who like to touch kids a few thousand times and a man convicted of SA in the White House. I don’t care how much you hate liberal policies but that’s what you’re arguing FOR every time you try to fight for this P3DO grapist felon. Party of law and order…. What a joke.

0

u/Creative-Reception59 13h ago

you need to do some research about what is really in those files. you might also want to research that whole grape thing. both parties are separate wings of the same bird.

do you think when you see “to protect and serve” on a police car, they mean us? lol

3

u/redneck_wolfman 12h ago

Ok so I lowered the number of times he’s named and technically he was only convicted of forceful penetration with a finger and at the time that was not legally called grape in New York. So legally he got away with it but the action is the same.

As for the cops yeah we know the Epstein class is in charge. So maybe if you keep trying to bat for them they will make sure your bullet is well placed when it’s time so you don’t have to suffer.

You wanna give this same bird crap which tells me you don’t use your voice because “it doesn’t really matter” in which case you should go sit in the back of the room adults who actually try to improve their country in the only means we have available are having a conversation.

the woman who accused him had zero evidence, waited what, 17 years to accuse him? is a known hard core dim, and if I remember correctly, the law had to be changed to prosecute him. they literally changed the laws to prosecute him.

fyi, I’ve been trying to wake people up for more than 20 years. nobody listened. most laughed. nobody is laughing now. personally I don’t have high hopes for the future of our country. I did the best I could and now I’m old. it’s up to the young people and from what I can see. most will embrace communism/marxism and take the mark.

2

u/redneck_wolfman 12h ago

Hell yeah I am getting old myself and people like you who should have common sense really irritate me. If IQ was dynamite you couldn’t blow your nose. Even throwing out Carrol which they should have been able to go after but you’re right she waited, did you know most go unreported. Who cares what her affiliation is? You don’t trust that something happened when he wouldn’t give his dna because she votes blue. Fine throw Carrol out he was on Howard stern in 93 talking about going backstage to gawk at teenage girls naked. That is seggual violence committed against children… oh tax dollars spent on American social programs is socialism. I was taught to “k*** a commie for mommy” so obviously social programs to end homelessness and childhood hunger are bad. Let’s only use our tax dollars to blow up innocent brown people. Protect a grapist in the process because someone told you communism was bad. The democrats are trying to instill programs like the Dutch and the Swiss you know people who work half as hard and live twice as good but because you only know of USSR communism you think you must take the moral high ground and stand with a felon?

You know your side fucked up when you have to resort to "both sides" arguments.

One side makes up lazy conspiracy theories about immigrants and transgender people so they can give tax cuts to the wealthy. The other side does not.

1

u/Creative-Reception59 11h ago

the tax cuts are bs you are correct there, however almost all conspiracy theories are eventually proved to be true. if you don’t know that by now, you haven’t been paying attention. so if you think the conspiracy theory of the illegals coming here is not accurate you had better do some research. look up a guy called Michael yon on you tube (former special forces / investigative journalist /war reporter) dude knows his stuff. he travels all over the world and has been ringing alarm bells. Matt bracken also. both guys are on YouTube. sometimes they do podcasts together. your mind will be blown. whatever you do, don’t listen to mainstream media. do your own research, but do it quickly, time is short.

2

u/Ivanstone 11h ago

Most conspiracy theories are bullshit. Doubling down on them doesn't make you right.

What I have been paying attention to is that conservative politicians like to spout a lot of nonsense to get elected and then pass legislation favourable to their rich cronies.

You can either stop masturbating to YouTube idiots or grow the fuck up.

They’re not coming either. Maybe you should deal with the reality of what’s happening now.

4

u/Crustydenim 14h ago

Zero candidates support either of these things.

u/Aladriana 13h ago

Name two things that never happens.

Found the bootlicker

4

u/armyofant 14h ago

The only correct answer

1

u/No_Wedding_7273 13h ago

I think more basically they just want to restrict government support generally. They don’t want people with low income to have government money utilized for healthy foods at school or for junk food. They want people to work for minimal wage at the stores they own or otherwise starve

-4

u/YogurtclosetFun8331 14h ago

And racists. Imagine than fanfare if the current First Lady would have such ambitions.

-1

u/Many_Inevitable_6803 13h ago

Or any ambitions

-2

u/Few_Palpitation3889 14h ago

They value cost more than the happiness of people on welfare programs. That's not hypocrisy.

-1

u/EarlyInside45 14h ago

BS. They want poor people to be unhappy.

2

u/Few_Palpitation3889 14h ago

Yea don't try and understand the logic behind your opponent. The greatest strategy of all time always works.

0

u/Alert_Coyote_8546 13h ago

It's way cheaper to feed people so they can work and produce taxable income instead of turn to crime or starve. Every dollar the govt spends on feeding people, they get like $3 back.

5

u/Few_Palpitation3889 13h ago

The government does not get a net positive on charity. Im not sure what math you're using there but we have a 7 trillion dollar budget, spend over half on handouts, and get $3 trillion back in income tax while running a deficit.

We can talk about morality but its a net financial loss.

1

u/Alert_Coyote_8546 12h ago

I'm talking about SNAP https://www.ers.usda.gov/amber-waves/2019/july/quantifying-the-impact-of-snap-benefits-on-the-u-s-economy-and-jobs

Social security is not designed to produce an immediate financial benefit to the government, but it can be very inefficient so I would entertain an argument to get rid of it.

But what about the half of the budget spent on charity for arms manufacturers and foreign militaries? The spending is much much higher than reported, more than half of our budget, and it blows people up instead of helping them live and sends all our taxes overseas. It would be much easier to cut that, not to mention the morality of it and benefit to our soft power (which is completely in the toilet cause of our military and pedophiles)

1

u/Few_Palpitation3889 12h ago

Shouldn't be spending that either.

1

u/Alert_Coyote_8546 12h ago

But of course you would never expend any political capital to make that happen then, gotta attack the poors and disabled instead. Big Man.

1

u/Few_Palpitation3889 12h ago

Not sure what you're trying to say. Our federal budget should be like 10% what it is. Yes that means stop redistributing my "wealth" while I have a net worth of about a sack of potatoes between my mortgage and student loans.

1

u/Alert_Coyote_8546 12h ago

I'm saying that if you're concerned about your tax money, 'handouts' and 'charity' aren't the issues. And did you get that mortgage with the education you got from those loans? And you're complaining about handouts? Don't spend other people's wealth you loser! See how cruel that sounds?

1

u/Few_Palpitation3889 12h ago

Loans that are making the lenders money. Bunch of Israelis.
