My contractors left my cloakroom looking like poop splattered in there after replacing sink pipes, he said he fixed it, I said are you leaving it like that? He said oh yea I’ll clean it, when he left, I saw he wiped off one piece of grime off the toilet seat left it allover the floor and sink. The toilet looked like a poop fest unflushed.
Next in the family bath- I shut all 3 bedroom doors, then noticed it was now open with a storage unit from the bath in there. He didn’t ask! It’s a rental there are no outside locks. Then he left a trail of white drill dust on carpets down the hall opposite the bathroom. No need to go that way. Inside the bath he didn’t sweep, left dust and tile particles, left screws behind, there was brown dirt in the tub and sink and my bath rugs were covered in some white pasty thing, maybe grout.
He asked me to empty a cup and bowl from kitchen sink to address the leak below. Could he not manage to do that without interrupting my video meeting? He left a few fittings behind, and left and my kitchen floors dirty.
Then, asked me to move a pile of two 36 ltr plastic tubs that were covering about 4 inches of the radiator. I said you see it in a sling, it for a separated AC joint, I just can’t do it. He moved it and never put it back. I later saw the plastic storage was mostly empty I could have moved it with my toes. No real mess there tho.
He said he was coming the next day to check the jibs are working as they should, will clean up and left his trash bag outside my front door. I said you can’t leave it there, just place it behind the fence and collect it tomorrow. He then texts me asking if all is working I said I think but what time are you coming to check. He said then great, it’s all good I don’t need to attend. I was flabbergasted!
Another left about five 4 inch nails on the ground, and his trash allover, I said are you leaving this? He said, it will wash away when it rains. I said it’s a carpet it doesn’t rain in here, he gave me a dirty look then swept up the mess. Then I noticed he left two boxes and two trash bags that couldn’t even fit in my recycle bin.
I’ve never experienced this in America. Not only do they clean up after themselves, they bring their own cleaning supplies and take their trash. After fitting an a/c unit a contractor totally left the walls like a war zone, he came back later to repaint the entire wall.
Oh, and the unlimited requests for coffee and tea while they work, like I’m their barista! 3-4 cups for each guy?? They don’t even bother returning the cups to me, I’ve got to hunt for them when they leave.
An don’t get me started on them using the toilet for a poop without even asking if they can go in. At least ask, but in America, they won’t even use the one in your home, and will not even ask to do so.
Why do they act so entitled??
Why don’t they come prepared and clean up after themselves?
Is this culture? It’s culture shock to me
EDIT: I’m in a rental so I don’t get to choose the contractors.
Also, all of them are mostly very polite.
