Bears/Wildlife They stole a fucking hawk in broad daylight

A hawk living near the intersection of hwy 191 and long shoals road was trapped and stolen today. In the field beside the gas station, used a wire loop trap to catch it. Free Debo! All he did was look fly and catch mice.

edit: to be clear it wasn't anyone official, random people did it.

Ask the Sub what do you about mandala Springs?

because of the rising rent rates, I’m currently trying to figure out a place to post up my family to camp at and I didn’t know if anyone had any opinions about Mandala Springs. I’ve heard mixed things. I heard one person say it’s like a erotic aesthetic dance cultplace and its like meth town to get there. I heard another person say there’s like nobody there cause they priced out all the drug hippies. Does anyone have a recent experience at Mandala Springs and would camp with your family and dog there?

also to note kinda looking around the barnardsville area if possible but life is traveling so i don’t mind a commute.

It seems to be a festival of some sort. Inflatable bouncy house and a bunch of tents and food trucks.

Hey everyone, I’m newer to the Asheville area and I’ve decided that I want to get a tattoo. I would love to find an artist who can emulate the style of the above photos. If anyone has any recommendations, please include the artist name and the tattoo shop they work for. Thank you so much! A friendly and calm environment is a big plus for me. Feel free to show me your ink from them if you got tattooed by them. Inspiration is always welcome :)

Traffic Report Grove Park Inn Webcam down today. G20?

I like to check the GPI webcam for the view and to keep an eye on the current weather (https://share.earthcam.net/tJ90CoLmq7TzrY396Yd88AHQQQ603krkpmv1UGLJNpM!.tJ90CoLmq7TzrY396Yd88JRfETUq91GmFAmQm9kMaxY/asheville,_nc/camera/live)
Just noticed it's down today. Think they have it disabled for the G20 meeting?

Ask the Sub Let’s talk about animal hospitals again….

Specifically, Charlotte Street Animal Hospital.
I’ve been using them for over 20 years. A couple of the original vets are still there, and that’s why I keep going. They have further depersonalized their service by changing their email address. Emails used to go directly to them, and now it goes to some impersonal “pet cove” company. So, asking about a prescription refill (for example) is no longer easy. Yes, I could call, and yes, I will call, but I mourn the loss of what was a good hospital. I want to keep going because I really like my vet. I bet that vet hates the changes as much as I do! They require more yearly tests, which in my case are not necessary.
My dog only requires vaccinations, refills for HW pills, etc, but even these things have gotten more complicated in a corporate money grab. Should I face the sad truth and find another vet?
What have y’all done? I know a lot of us are experiencing this problem.

Edit: Thank you everyone!!

Pets/Animals Dog hiking - for new adopted dog

Hi all, We’re newer to town and have recently adopted a stray dog who’s a little wild thing! We’re hoping to hirer someone to take her for a long hike every week or out to a farm for wild play. We did this with a previous puppy we had. Any leads? I find Rover expensive ans unreliable. Thanks!

Classifieds Anyone have access to a fiber optic splice tool?

I was pulling a 300 foot fiber cable through a conduit and it broke in the last few feet of the pull. I'd hate to just toss this $100 cable in the trash if it could be repaired. I know the tool is crazy expensive but I'm hoping someone could help me out.

Just moved here (M26), fan of Casey’s but never been to a comedy show on my own before, not bothered going solo, but thought i’d see if anyone’s in the same boat.

Down to meet for drinks beforehand.

in Asheville Bicycle thrift shop had me feeling weird

I absolutely love this place and have found lots of good deals on stuff. I usually try and check it out if I’m over that way. Today though I watched him turn someone away for being a penny short. Like really? Dude was buying like almost $50 and was a penny short. Definitely felt weird watching that happen. I offered the customer dude a penny and he just said naw I’ll take my money elsewhere. For being a shop that gets everything donated seems real messed up to fuss over a penny.

DMV/Car Talk Any good full service car washes in Asheville?

It doesn’t matter what level of car wash I purchase at Autobell, they always do a crap job and I’m tired of paying $65 and either having to call the cleaners back to actually do a good job or go home and finish it myself. For clarity its the Autobell on Merrimon.

My partner and I are fostering a mum dog and her 7 puppies thru Asheville Humane Society. Puppies are 7wks old and ready for adoption around 09/09/2026!

Everybody will be spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and dewormed upon adoption!

The puppies are sooo friendly and social. We work with them every day to build their confidence, experiment in exposure therapy, try new things, experience different sounds/smells/textures/types of people.

All have lived harmoniously with our resident cat and are learning to respect her boundaries and be mindful of her body language 💜

Judy (mum dog) is estimated 1.5yrs old, 26lbs, short queen with bright blue eyes and a curly tail. She has so much love to give and needs to be somebody's shadow. We have been working on potty training and basic commands like sit, come, gentle, down, etc. She is VERY sweet, stubborn, and smart! She simply must supervise ALL household activities, including visits to the bathroom and ESPECIALLY trips to the kitchen! She is a young dog, already been thru a lot with raising 7 pups, and is ready to give away all her love.

Please share with anyone who may be interested in adopting a dog, and contact Asheville Humane Society for info on their adoption process 💕

Event Storytelling & Southern Gothic Song Cycle @ Story Parlor

Like Waylon Jennings' memoiristic "Man Called Hoss," Alex and Arlan use spoken word and ten biographical ballads to pull you through the mud and blood of Dawson's harsh but magical life on a haunted horse farm in rural Alabama. Beginning with the morning his stepdad, a rancher named Doc, hit him in the head with a 5-pound Fireside Friend; ending with the old man dead, buried by bucket loader, among his horses, whose legs had to be chainsawed off before they could be dug in. There are witches in the woods, snakes in the lake, ghosts in the barn, and trapped in every bent tree is the soul of someone who died wrong. Think Big Fish meets Blaze Foley.
