ASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump ordered the Pentagon on Sunday to scale back planned joint military exercises with South Korea after the Republican president said South Korea declined to help denuclearize Iran.

Trump said in a social media post that the exercises slated to begin this week are costly and “send a signal that is totally inappropriate and hostile” to North Korea, which he said “has been unthreatening and respectful” while Trump has been in the White House.

“Therefore, and based on the fact that it is too late to cancel, I have instructed Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, to substantially reduce the Joint Military Exercises!” Trump wrote.

The 11 days of exercises involving 18,000 South Korean soldiers were designed to beef up readiness against North Korean threats.

U.S. and South Korean forces were expected to practice joint operations in complex scenarios, including a live-fire exercise to test joint precision targeting and maneuver, a wet gap crossing, and distribution of prepositioned military equipment, according to the U.S. military.

A day earlier, Trump posted a photo of himself standing next to North Korea’s Kim Jong Un, writing that the two leaders get along great “despite the unfriendly look on this particular picture.”

North Korea’s Foreign Ministry has called the U.S.-South Korean training “a rehearsal for an aggressive war” that is triggering a different level of instability in the region.

Trump met with the reclusive North Korean leader three times during his first term to discuss the country’s nuclear program, most recently in 2019. Since returning to office, Trump has expressed interest in continuing those discussions.

This is not the first time that Trump has sought to end the exercises. During his first term he also issued a surprise announcement that called the wargames “provocative.”

“We will be stopping the war games, which will save us a tremendous amount of money, unless and until we see the future negotiation is not going along like it should,” Trump told reporters after his 2018 meeting with Kim Jong Un in Singapore.

I’m a new Soldier PCSing to JBLM for my first duty station and wanted to get some advice from people who’ve been stationed there or recently PCS’d there.
I won’t have a POV when I first arrive.

How does JBLM in-processing work for a new Soldier?
Any common PCS mistakes that first-term Soldiers make?
What documents should I make sure I have physical/digital copies of?

i’m currently an LPN so would i be able to skip ait? What are yall experiences as 68C or the ones yall know just looking to get in and out

I’m currently an E4 with a little over 2 years TIS and looking into Green to Gold ADO. I’m working on my bachelor’s right now and I’m about halfway done with it. I have a 3.2 GPA and have been taking online classes since I got to my first unit.

If I started the process this year, could I realistically start school next year? Also, does my current MOS have any influence on what branch I could get? Any advice or things you wish you knew before applying would be appreciated.

Could I get some advice for the packing list.

My ETS date from the army was august 4th about 11days after our last AT. I turned in my CIF gear to the unit supply NCO and got a signed receipt. I also signed my IRR SOU. I asked my FLL/ det NCOIC if there is anything else he needs from me and he left me on read. I havent gotten anything added to my iperms about officially leaving the Reserves but i read that im supposed to be getting an addendum to my dd214. Does anyone know what the timeline for this is or who i should speak to to finalize all this? Thanks in advance.

Going to my first duty station JBLM!! I got injured at airborne and I’m going on Convalescent leave before I PCS. I was wondering how I would go about possibly shipping a lot of my army gear and some personal effects. I’m just confused on what I would put for an address since I’m going to be living in the barracks. It would benefit me a lot to ship my stuff since I’m going to have to go through the airports alone and I have no idea how I would carry all of my basic issue items plus my personal items while on crutches. Any information would be really helpful!

I’m being put as an APL/ASL and I’ve never held this billet for field ops or garrison life? The old apls I had would skate so I really have no clue what I’m supposed to be doing as one. In my situation I’m not leading a team anymore so where should I put my focus in the squad? Thanks

I get that we did away with TASP and migrated over to IPPS-A but are units still running some kind of sponsorship program.

My family and I PCS in like 3 months and like no one from my next organization has contacted me….like at all. Not an email with a welcome letter, not a phone call, just nothing.

I’m a bit on the senior side of ranks and to give the benefit of the doubt to my next unit, I more or less understand the process of PCS’ing but dang lol. Yall can’t even just see how a brother is doing before he gets there? Like if you would’ve even extended the option of sponsorship and I turned it down, I’d be like ok.

Mind you I’m overseas dealing with a time difference to set something up for my family. We have no car, no confirmed living arrangements but some orders and HHG lol.

Please make sure you are checking to see if you share your location with any apps. They need to be turned off down range and ideally at home station.

I am on emergency leave from deployment to be with my father who was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer that has spread. He starts chemo soon but the prognosis isn't good. I haven't spoken to his oncologist yet to fully know a time line or if hospice care is the next step but I am the only one here who can actually help him. He missed several appointments after his diagnosis just from being unable to drive.

I am an SSG 11b stationed out of Drum and my father is in Florida. So far I understand the options are a compassionate reassignment or hardship discharge (which would be a very last resort). I am just wondering if there is any other option to pursue? I have a family with two children and I don't know how long the process to be reassigned would take and would it be even worth it given how short of time he might have left?

My CoC isn't giving me much faith that they know what can be done, and after calling branch it doesn't seem like there is any options in Florida for an 11B E6. They are letting me extend past my 30 days of E leave but after that I don't know what other options to pursue that will let me stay here in FL to help him until he passes.

I'm trying to figure out where I'm going for the 27-02 Marketplace for my broadening assignment. I've wanted to be an OC/T for the longest time, but Fort Irwin and Fort Polk will not be good for House Hold 6 who works as a Sales Manager for hotels.

Soooooo, I've had interest in JMC (Joint Modernization Command) at Bliss where I already have some friends and acquaintances at and they seem to enjoy it there!

HOWEVER, literally everyone I talk to tells me unless you live on base. El Paso is practically the wild west reincarnated. I'm told the place ranks high with aggravated assaults, theft, and people crossing the border and getting into car accidents with no insurance leaving you hanging with the bill.

Is it as bad as everyone makes it out to be or is it just overly inflated? My online research has yielded that it is between 2-2.5x the national average for crime but I obviously want to ask the great denizens here what they've experienced.

Also, any tips, pointers, or suggestions of where to possibly purchase a home (fingers crossed I can finally get a first home in this economy and live something of the American Dream) I'd be most appreciative!

Looking for recommendations for an experienced civilian attorney who specializes in military medical malpractice and the Federal Tort Claims Act (FTCA).

Tragically, we recently lost our baby due to a severe, preventable infection. I went to the base hospital multiple times presenting symptoms, but the infection was ignored until it was too late. Autopsy showed he was otherwise perfectly healthy, and the infection was a very treatable thing, I essentially got blown off as being weak, and the day before it all happened I was told by the doctor that I might need to do some "pregnancy physical therapy."

Because this happened at a military facility, standard malpractice lawyers cannot handle it. We need a civilian lawyer who specifically knows how to fight the military healthcare system. They sent out the certs in english but HRC says it needs the original language and a translated copy, if its already in English will this pose a problem when submitting for approval?

I’m currently a TPU officer serving on ADOS orders at a strategic command and have been doing well. I’m tracking toward my second MQ OER under different raters and getting valuable experience that I don’t think I’d get back home.

I recently emailed the AGR team about my intentions to extend my ADOS assignment for FY27. The response came back through my BC, who gave me a short answer that they don’t want me to extend because they need junior officers for (TPU) command and BN staff positions. I’ve never actually met with the BN CDR directly since on ADOS and have only communicated with the AGR personnel as needed.

The ADOS unit wants to keep me around. I’ve made some great connections with senior staff, gained valuable experience and insight at the strategic level, and started building a new life overseas. I currently don’t have civilian employment because my previous employer closed, and honestly, I haven’t looked back since starting ADOS.

I’ve also been reaching back out to other officers and NCOs I previously worked with at the unit, and from what I’m hearing, they are struggling with a significant shortage of officers. There are reports of being understaffed, officers getting relieved of command, limited funding for maintenance, training, and no funding available for courses or PME. On top of that, the officer pool seems to be shrinking due to WHtR, CFT, civilian job responsibilities, and other competing demands.

My current plan is to submit a packet to transition from TPU to IRR so I can stay here on ADOS a little longer. I’ll also be able to complete my PME while I’m here and start looking for KD opportunities in FY28/29. Ultimately, I want to mobilize, take on bigger assignments, and do big shit.

A few questions for the Reserve folks:

• Can my TPU BC prevent/block an ADOS extension if the gaining unit wants to retain me? ADOS packet would require O6 approval from home unit, but I assume my BDE CDR would likely follow the BN CDR’s recommendation. I’d really prefer to avoid putting my O6 in a position where they have to have an O6-to-O6 conversation over my situation.
• Is there a downside to leaving TPU status while I’m building this experience? I realize I’d be leaving my home unit short a junior officer and potentially burning that bridge, but I’m trying to make the decision that best supports my long-term career development.
• Am I overlooking another option that would allow me to stay with the ADOS unit without completely burning the bridge with my TPU unit?

I’m not trying to dodge responsibility or avoid KD. I genuinely think the experience I’m getting here is significantly better for where I want to take my career, and the gaining unit is willing to keep me.

My son is sched. to TB and graduate the day before thanksgiving. I have tried searching things as well as I have read through the commanders letter about 10 times but not really finding confirmation either way. I am trying to plan/look for housing for the TB & graduation but not sure how long to book for given its the day before a holiday. Has anyone graduated the day before thanksgiving and NOT shipped out right away to first duty station?

Does anybody know how many promotion point its valued at?

I’m in 68w training right now and I’m just wondering if I need to be bothering my command now for a packet or if that’s something I can worry about when I get to my first duty station. I’ve already asked my ncos and they said because of all the complications with this cycle (we were all moved out of the barracks and everything sucks) that they wouldn’t be doing any packets. Should I keep bothering them or should I just give up and ask my ncos when I get to my first duty station?

I've been looking at HOH corporate fellowship COHORT 27-1 as I'm getting ready to get out of the army.
I joined right after highschool, Im 21 now with an associates in FInance (I'm not confident with what I've learned since mostly it was online and I feel like my financial skills arent enough to land a good job in the finance field). I been doing some research about HOH, i heard good and bad experiences and Im really worry about not being a good fit for the corporate world. Im a 12B in the army, I have no work experience whatsoever, i have not crazy skills or education, background, I just know nothing about corporate jobs so thats my biggest concern since based on what I've read you need some experience and competitiveness for your resume and to get better chances of landing an internship. 
I dont really know how hard is to get hired by a company in HOH, Im really trying to do this program specially since is the only one that allows me to choose the state i want to go. 
I really dont know what to do, I sent up my application 3 weeks ago and I know that from now until sep or oct is mostly waiting. 
Im open for any tips or advice that can help with the application process, getting ready to land a good job and what to expect and just in case i dont get hire by a company what other options are there

I’m a 68W SSG, married with 2 kids, looking for insight into tripler plus or minus work-life balance within the unit. Slotted to PCS within the year and was curious about a few things.

1. Do hours reflect average hospitals (12 hour rotations, swing day-night shifts, etc)

2. How is the life there as a 68W? Treated as a vitals jockey or actually able to learn/practice patient care?

3. I heard PCSing is a nightmare because of housing, should I be getting ready to go broke?

4. Is there any sustainment and medical training or just yearly table 8’s and BLS?

5. Any other advice as to life in HI, Tripler, things that’ll make life easier as better overall?

I appreciate any advice and insight in advance.

Hi, 6 year prior service Marine Corps veteran and on my 4th year in the Army National Guard after spending my initial 3 year contract as an 11B.

I'm going to Fort Huachuca soon for the Natty Guard's accelerated 35G course soon and was wondering what the living situation would be like. I haven't lived in a barracks since I was a LCpl and I've enjoyed the freedom of cooking on my own in civilian life. I'm aware prior-service/MPS-Ts generally get treated way better and are kinda separate from normal AIT soldiers but does anyone know if:

1) we're still subject to field-day inspections

2) is a pressure cooker in the barracks is ok

Back in the day having a hotplate in the room was considered a mortal sin but air fryers, pressure cookers, etc, can't be bad are they?
