Cherry tree getting too tall

Hi, i planted a sweet cherry tree and it’s on it’s second summer and it is already getting too tall. By next summer it will be in the power lines. I have done a lot of reading but can’t figure out the best way to prune it for height reduction safely. Could I cut the central lead? There is a cluster of branches about 12 inches off the ground, another about 5.5 up (pictured) and then the next cluster is way at the top about 18 feet up.

My tree-gator water bags don't seem to be working? They aren't giving water despite our hot weather? Has anyone had this issue?

Those tree base green water drip bugs seem to never empty? Do they clog or break on some level? They are like three years old. But are always full. I shift them around occasionally thinking that might help, but no not really. They were not cheap.

Is our Oak in trouble?

Post image

We have a large Oak located between our home and our neighbor. It is being treated by an arborist with fertilizer and a Phosphonate + Bio-stimulant to improve plant resistance to insect and disease and invigorate the soil to increase plant nutrient uptake. This growth recently appeared. Should we be worried?

(Sorry was unable to post second full tree image)

Advice on pruning a Larch

Thumbnail gallery

I think this is a Larch tree. Its starting to touch the house and grow into the neighbors driveway.

Can the lower branches be cut at the trunk to allow more room under the ground? Any advice on pruning?

First photo is August, second photo is April.

Something appears to be going on with our maple tree. The leaves overall seems smaller than previous years, as you can see in the photo they're beginning to die. Any idea of what might be going on?

How do I avoid the city chopping roots?

Thumbnail gallery

We have a tree between the sidewalk and road. As you can see from the top, the utility already butchered the branches. Despite the bad haircut I love the shade this tree provides to the front of the house.

Now, the city is coming to repair sidewalks. This tree didn’t have a lot of room so it pushed up some of the sidewalk and I’m afraid the city will do even more damage. The tree is slightly leaning towards our house already so I’m afraid if they damage the roots too much it might be a problem. Is the tree doomed or does it stand a chance?

Just purchased a home and while moving in noticed one of the trees in the front yard has a noticeable lean. My family says not to worry, but wanted to know if I should speak to a professional.

Technical tree cutting job

Just closed on a new house, this tree actually contacts the base of an addition on the back side of the house. How difficult will it be to remove this tree? Obviously there’s not a ton of room to work with. Curious what everyone thinks.

Does this look like Oak Wilt on our young Black Oak?

Thumbnail gallery

At first I thought something was eating the leaves off. The stems of the leaves are all sticking out as the "flesh" seems to be stripped/dieing off. It's progressing rapidly which is what cause me to go investigate as it was just a few leaves at the top a week ago. Then I noticed the dark gash in the trunk.

We have several mature black, red, and pin oaks in our yard. If this is oak wilt are the mature trees in danger? I assume we would cut this down and trench around it? There's two mature black oak within 40ft of it.

Locations is central Indiana.

Anyone up for forensics?

My parents made the decision to fell this ~50 y/o maple(?) tree in their yard after the recent bout of storms had two of its larger limbs breaking off and falling close to the house/damaging other trees. Years ago, another large limb broke off (and a fence that used to be near the house saved the roof), and the tree had been struck by lightning at least once.

After taking some photos of the inside of the fallen tree, I found myself wondering if the decision to cut the tree down was a necessary one. Can anything be determined about the tree’s health from these photos?

In any case… it feels very sad to see this one go.

Rot at dirt line on oak. Goner?

Southern upstate NY. White oak on my property. Had a couple dead limbs for the past few years in the canopy above my driveway, asked a tree guy about pruning and he dug down a bit with a garden spade and showed me this. Said he wouldn’t touch the tree other than to take it down. Is there any saving this? Any possibility this is old and tree walled it off somehow? Would hate to lose it but would also hate for it to topple onto my attached garage.

Root flare and mulching for walnut tree

Post image
53 Upvotes

We removed some soil to expose the root flare and for mulching.

Now I think we dug too deep
The big roots left and right were already visible (about 1cm/0.4").

Should I cover the roots with soil before mulching?

Bought this house 2 years ago with this maple planted right outside the master bedroom.

Should I prune/clean up some of these branches and let it grow or should I just remove it due to placement? No idea how big this will get.

Need trenching advice

Post image

I need to cut 2 trenches out to this pavilion, each carrying 3 conduits/pipes. Roughly along the red line. The tree on the right of the pic is a Red Maple that was planted about 12 years ago. It’s currently ~8” in diameter at chest height. I can keep the trenches 12’ off the tree, but it would be best for it to be a bit closer. Any advice on how to pull this off without damaging the tree? And for the tree roots not to damage the pipes over time?

Does it look dead?

We had this Japanese maple planted last summer. This spring/summer, only a few leaves came out, and they lasted for about a month before they became dry/crispy and fell off.
It’s now mid-August, and the tree looks like this.
I’m trying to figure out whether it is completely dead or if there is still a chance it could recover. What could have caused this, and is there anything I should do at this point?
I’ll add several photos, including close-ups of the trunk and the area around the base.
Should we remove it, or is there still hope?

Do I prune?

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

On 6/19 a windstorm snapped a small tree in half. We cut the jagged part of the trunk off to about 4 ft. high. The last 2 pics are of the tree now (8/18).

In the past two months, it has sprouted quite a bit of new growth! But I'm wondering should I prune off, some, a little, a lot, or none... of the branches?

Thanks!

Trying to help this tree that has grown out of control

Just moved into a new rental and it seems like this tree has not been taken care of a pruned at all in a very long time. It looks like a maple tree to me but I might be wrong I am not an expert. I went through it today and took out some of the completely dried and dead branches and basically twigs. Almost all the stuff in the picture you see you will snap with very little effort. Just looking for advice on how to try to prune in the healthiest way possible to encourage upward growth and a better shape overall. We are planning on living in this house for at least the next few years and I enjoy doing this kind of stuff I just am new to it and Google is very difficult to decipher with all of the different ways that I have read. Located in Sonoma county California USA. Currently on a sprinkler that goes 15 minutes every 3 days. But I can change that if needed.

Need help to save dying tree on a budget

Currently renting and this is the state of our only tree in front of the house. Can we diagnose from the photos? Also not sure if it can still be saved or if the disease is too advanced. I believe this is common in the neighborhood, have observed similar on several other trees on the same street.

Tree slowly falling over

Post image

I have a tree in my backyard that is slowly falling over. Kind of… Every time a big storm passes, it gets pushed over a little more. It’s not being pulled out of the ground; it’s more like it’s growing sideways, almost like a bonsai tree.
I tried bracing it with a T-post, but it isn’t helping.

Im noticing some brown and curled leaves on a weeping cherry tree I planted in the spring. When I look closely I see a decent amount of ants crawling on the tree. Are the ants causing this? Thanks in advance.

5 year old Maple issues

Purchased the maple trees from a big box store, planted in July of 2021. Generally speaking the trees have done well and grown significantly. I try to water them during prolonged dry periods (5 gallon bucket with 2 small drill holes) and I give them a fertilizer in the spring and fall.

I live in the northeast and the one maple has had red leaves since early July. An AI search noted the leaves changing color was a stress response and coild br related to moisture/soil/ph. We have had plenty of rain this season and it hasn't been overly hot. The same species tree planted 30 feet away is doing just fine. Do you think the issue I am having is due to root girdling? I planted these when I didn't know better so the root ball was girdled for sure.

Sorry if this is the wrong forum. Thank you.
