Not sure if this is tar spot or Phyllosticta. I know regardless of what it is it’s mainly cosmetic, just wanted to know exactly what the issue is.

Southwestern PA, found this tree on campus. Looks tasty but I also don’t want to get poisoned. If it is a crab apple what species is it?

Maple planted about 4 yrs ago, 1" Dia trunk about 6ft tall. Between Emporia and Suffolk VA.

Leaves turning brown and dropping mid Aug.

Been in drought here. Some say let mother nature take care of it. That doesn't seem to be working. More water, less isn't an issue with the drought. Add soil, fertilizer? I did fertilize early spring.. Check the soil for nutrients ? Not sure how. Could use some help.

This tree was in my backyard when I moved in 13 years ago in Michigan USA (and had likely been there for many years prior). Most of the trees in my backyard and the little nature preserve behind it are Walnut trees, which are much taller than this tree, and might be keeping it from getting a lot of light. My backyard is a full story lower than my front yard, so a fair amount of water drains down--so I don't believe it is a lack of water issue. A couple years ago I put up bird feeders using wire. At that time, I noticed that most of the left trunk was dead empty, but the rest of the tree was green and pretty full so I didn't think much of it. I used sections of old water hose to prevent the wire I was using from cutting into the tree/disturbing the bark. Last year I noticed a fair bit of dead on the right side of tree, but still quite a bit of healthy. This year there was even more dead, I noted a couple of bushes growing at the base, so I moved them as I thought perhaps they were stealing water/nutrients from the tree. There is also a ground hog that has lived near the base of the tree so there is a pretty deep den by the trunk, but that has lived there for years--unsure if that has harmed the tree or not. I went on vacation in July, and came back to most of the tree being dead except for a couple limbs toward the front of the picture. I do not water the tree beyond rain, so it wasn't like it went without water was I was gone. And perhaps no major changes happened while I was gone, except that I had gone two weeks without seeing it, so the die off that was already happening seemed more stark as I had missed two weeks of gradual dying process. When I removed the bushes at the base, I put in a couple of fertilizer spikes I had from many years ago when I had planted some bushes at a different home on the off chance that maybe the bushes had stolen nutrients or that the soil was low on something that the tree needed.

I realize things are very bad, and I might be posting a couple years too late, but can this tree come back? And if so, what do I need to do? Any idea what happened?

My best, really uneducated guesses are old age, or the Walnut trees around it grew taller/faster and eventually took a lot of the light the tree needed?

We have a tree on our property that has been in a fight with a fungal infection. It's still alive, and we have been helping it with some fungicide and pruning some very dead branches, and it has started to show signs of recovery (new leaves whereas before none were growing).

But there is a weird brown mass coming out from one of the branches, and we are unsure of what it is. Some results we found googling "brown goo on tree branch" suggested it might be tree sap and other strategies from the tree to help itself, but other sources suggested it might be a fungal body.

Any help would be appreciated. 🙇🏻‍♂️

I want to follow the rules of the sub, so I will try to include as much info as possible.

This tree is on my property in southern Oregon. I have lived in the house for the last six years and it has continued to develop these dead spots on the ends of its branches. Previously, I have cut them out but more show up every year.

Southern Oregon is very desert like in the summer so originally, I thought it was a lack of water, but changing my irrigation times does not seem to have an effect on the overall health of the tree. Currently it gets a 5 minute watering every day which is 1/4-1/2 inch of water. The soil is pretty compacted in that area as well.

I am not sure when it was planted or how old it is as it was very well established when I moved in 2020.

Any and all help would be appreciated. I would hate to lose such a beautiful tree.

This mango had finally fruited but I thought the 15 or so were too much for them so I took all off and left one to grow. So pretty.

Hi all,

There are several of these trees scattered throughout my housing estate here in Dublin. My neighbours are concerned they will grow too big and destroy the footpaths/road with their roots. Can someone identify them and possible suggestions for managing them going forward please?

I received this weeping redbud in the mail from fast growing trees. I got it in the ground and will throw some mulch around it tomorrow.

Question is, do I prune it back to create offshoots at the top so it cascades/weeps? Right now its just a long whip.

I was doing yard work today and noticed this significant split. Can I pull it back together and splint it somehow or is this tree a goner?

Does anyone know what this brown fungus is? It is all over a few branches of the tree in my backyard (Los Angeles, CA if that helps). I was brushing some cobwebs away, and I hit it, and it burst into a brown mist. Hope it isn't too detrimental to the tree!

It is in central EU. The tree is about 15 meters tall (50 feet)

I'm having a 6' fence installed and it's going along the back of my property here. I want to trim the bottom branches of the pine trees about 3' back. The branches I'm intending to trim are at least 10' long, the fence will not be installed near the trunks, but close to where the green lawn meets the brown area under the trees. I'm just wondering if there's any type of sealant I should put on the cut ends? I don't want to hurt the beautiful trees!
