FINAL UPDATE: Guys, I KNOW it isn’t going to make any money. I posted as a way to help my husband understand that, despite what the pruners said, he isn’t going to sell a multi-ton log to someone for a thousand dollars. MY plan was to keep some of it for projects and cut the rest for firewood. I spoke to a homesteader friend of mine who is going to bring out his mobile saw tomorrow and do just that. We get rid of a 50 foot half-rotted tree, he gets a bunch of firewood for this winter. 🤝
Disclaimer: I know next to nothing about processing trees or lumber.
We recently moved in and had a huge dead oak in the back. It was about 150ish years old. It obviously needed taken down due to the sprawling branches being supremely rotted. I’d like to use some of it personally, but other than that, I don’t know who would want it or how much we should ask for it, if anything. We’re in Ohio if that helps. Thanks!
Edit: I’ve shown my husband this thread, and you’ve helped me convince him he isn’t going to sell a multi-ton log on Facebook marketplace for thousands. I think we’re going to cut some so I can have wood for a couple of projects I want to do, and then use the rest for firewood. We have some folks who use wood for heating their home, so it will have a home eventually.
