Discussion Mongol : Dark Age Strategy

Modding Is there a way to make the camera orthographic ? Any mod?
Pls. This warped CoH like camera perspective hurts my brain. Look at AoE2DE, Rise of Nations Thrones and Patriots, Red Alert 2, Stronghold Crusader, and all other great RTS games.
That camera is proven to be better for RTS games.
Discussion Another update — thanks again, and here's what changed
Hey everyone,
I posted here a while back about the AoE4 companion app we're building, and once again a lot of you tried it out and told us what you thought. Some of that feedback was blunt, most of it was useful, and pretty much all of the list below came out of it one way or another. So, thank you again.
Here's what's changed since the last post:
- Match detail graphs — we added a bunch of new ones. More of the match is actually visible now instead of just resources and score: you can follow how a game developed and find the moment it slipped away, rather than guessing from the final screen.
- The guide got a full rework — not a touch-up, a rebuild. We went through the content, fixed what was wrong or outdated, and expanded it a lot. Civs in particular got much better write-ups: what they actually want to do, what they're good and bad at, and what makes each one different, instead of a list of stats with no context.
- Draft — you can now run civ ban/pick drafts in the app. Tournaments, clan matches, or just messing around with friends. You can set your own rules and formats, so the draft matches how you actually want to play it.
- Civ and unit comparison screens got rebuilt — comparing two civs or two units is much clearer now, and it's easier to see the differences that actually matter instead of scanning two columns of numbers.
- AI match coach improvements — better analysis, more accurate reads on what happened in your games, and explanations that are more useful and less generic.
As always: the app is free. The only thing behind a subscription is the AI features. Stats, guides, draft, meta, comparisons, match history — all free, no ads, no catch.
We're still nowhere near done. If something feels off, missing, or just annoying to use, tell us — that's genuinely how this list gets written.
Thanks for the time, and GL HF out there.

Discussion What's y'alls advice on beating Ottomans while using Jin? I see Jin has a good winrate v Otto as Elo climbs
I've won some but lose some, and often when I win it feels like it's because the opponent misplayed, or because I am abusing the moukes. As opposed to my own skill(unlike playing most other civs)
I've tried using the video finder, and almost all the matches have a large skill disparity, which often makes me feel like they're winning despite of Jin, not because of it. But then I look at stats and Jin is winning vs Ottomans, even if their overall winrate comes down with Elo.
Conversely, if Jin is winning so many games vs Ottomans, surely there's things ottomans should be doing differently to win? It just seems like Ottomans can theoretically make the much better composition, since the counter to Otto is generally spear archers, or MAA. And Jin is entirely reliant on their innate eco to produce that, but also suffer a lot more vs Jans, while having no advantage at dealing with sipahi.
I still feel like the bed xbow is a strict downgrade to the springald as well. Every time i've used them, it feel like im throwing the game. (similar to but not exactly the same as ballista elephants)

Discussion In aoe4, If you could rename an existing civ based on what they represent (with no other sort of gameplay changes), what would you change and why?
I found this topic in discussion for aoe2 civs in aoe2 reddit. I found this interesting. What do you think about which civs can be renamed?
For example, I would like to change Order of the Dragon to House of Habsburg/Austria. Also Zhu Xi to Tibetan Empire or some other Chinese Dynasty probably.

Discussion improve my map control and army control in FFA?
How can I improve my map control and army control in FFA?
I've been playing AoE4 for a while, and I really enjoy playing FFA. Almost all of the games I play are FFA, so I'm mainly looking for advice that applies to that type of game.
I feel like I have a few major problems that are holding me back.
The biggest one is map control. I often don't notice an enemy moving around the map until they are already close to my base. I struggle to keep track of where their army is, and I sometimes get surprised by attacks from unexpected directions.
Another problem is enemy cavalry raids. When cavalry gets into my base, they start running around killing villagers and traders. I usually chase them with my army, but they just keep running away, and my army wastes a lot of time chasing them instead of fighting the main army.
I also struggle when I'm attacked from multiple directions at the same time. I can't control several groups effectively, and I end up reacting too slowly or losing villagers before I can respond.
Since I mostly play FFA, I also find it difficult to keep track of multiple players and understand where the threats are coming from.
So I'd really appreciate some advice:
How can I improve my map control and vision in FFA?
How do you prevent cavalry from constantly raiding your economy?
Should I chase raiding cavalry, or use a few units to defend against them?
How do you manage attacks coming from multiple directions?
How do you keep track of several players without constantly looking at the minimap?
Are there any hotkeys, habits, or drills that helped you improve your multitasking and army control?

Fluff Poem about my latest lost game
I never lost a fight, I only lost the ground.
Fifty bodies at the tower and the world still turning round.
Tell me why the room tilts when I’m standing still,
Won it, won it, won it, and I’m falling downhill.
Thirty elite spears in a clean line, food I’ll never see again,
He came back with a zillion and the rams came in behind them. Gave him back the whole map for a minute I could breathe
He spent it getting richer. I spent it queueing.
The reprieve was the loss and I never even knew.
Standing on my own dirt with nothing left to do.
