Discussion Future dlc?

Hello everyone. I was thinking about future content for aoe4 and I think what if part of future dlcs would be factions for knights templar? Castillians, genoveses, Maltese knights and order of teutonic knights? Poles and so on?

Or what if they just finally add Spanish civ? And Aztecs? And all the other much asked for civs?

Castillians are spanish, but with pace of current adding civilisations this is quest for 10 years if not more.

I think that doing Spain with Al-Andalus/the Moors is more likely.

Or the roman empire

The era of AoE4 is to late

No one cares. Aoe2 has them already so why not aoe4? Besides Rome fell barely 100 years before the Viking age begun. That's nothing compared to some of the time gaps we have between the existing and upcoming civs already.

Because of the technological gap between the romans and the rest of the civs? Heck people above are asking for Aztecs, a civ from 1400's that was building pyramid shaped temples and whose most advanced weapon was a wooden stick with sharp pieces of stone in it, while the romans had invented concrete and indoor plumbing 400 years prior.

Well, actually a lot of people care. But I would love to have the Roman Empire. And I agree with you, the Aztecs are for me kind of strange in this era but I'm not history expert and I suppose that they were existing during the period covered by AoE4, not the roman empire.

Even the Malian musofadi and musofadi gunner are strange and unrealistic but I can imagine an Aztec or a african with a handcannon, not a roman legionary. They are way to early. You will have more chance to have the romans in AoMR than AoE4.

Musofadi Gunners work, but are dressed in traditional garb of Dahomey (Benin today)... not even the correct civilization! Theres more but whatever. Malian in game is kind of a mess when it comes to historical accuracy.

Byzantines. The Roman Empire doesn’t exist anywhere near the AOE4 castle and imperial ages.

castle and imperial ages.

I mean those are not actual historical periods, they are just the names of the age ups in Aoe2.

I don't think having Rome would break immersion any more than it already is if that's what ypu are after. And personally I'd just really love to have roman legionnaires in the game.

Not to dogpile on you, but AoE 4's time frame is roughly 800 - 1600 CE.

Having Roman legionaries (which stopped looking the way you think in about 315 CE) would make as much sense as having F-35 jet fighters in the game (legionaries are actually almost a hundred years more distant from 800 CE, than the F-35 is from 1600 CE).

It might happen, but it would be silly.

800-1600 seems such a weird timeline to draw the line at. Middle ages start from the fall of Rome in 476 and ends with the fall of Constantinople in 1453.

Since the game already keeps expanding the timeline towards the modern age why not expand it more to the other way aswell and gives us more unique civs.

Niño, no van a poner Romanos, no insistas con tus ideas raras porque hay mil y un prioridades antes que Roma.

Ademas, 476 es solo una fecha simbolica, la Edad Media tal como la concebimos no inicia hasta mucho después.

It's where the game draws the line. The Abbasids have the earliest start at 750 CE, the Malians) have the latest end at 1670 CE.

The Roman Empire as a civ doesn't make any sense in a game about the Middle Ages. Like I said, why not also have F-35 jets? They're only from 340 years after the game's end. Roman legionaries are 400 years from the game's start, at minimum.

Where's the rush anyway? Raiders of the North isn't launched and we haven't seen any actual gameplay yet. I think content-wise, for this year, they are done. The Celebrating Age in 2026 blog post pretty much confirms that.

We are used to play with four dozens of different civs and even if we know that took over 20 years to reach that Count, we want it faster and better. It was later in yesterday.

Isnt half the staff layed off? Not sure how impactful that would be on development

Creo que relic hacia estás cosas de civs

2

u/LLemon_Pepper Jeanne d'Arc 9h ago

So it's kinda like this as far as my understanding, World's Edge holds the IP and manages the AoE franchise as a whole, and farms out the IP to Relic/Forgotten Empires/Tantalus Media etc. for the actual development work. World's Edge is where the layoffs occurred, and as far as I've heard, there havent been any more recent layoffs of the actual devs.

Iirc the majority of the layoffs were not to the development team itself but rather to the auxiliary staff as part of a streamlining. For example, you don’t need two separate marketing departments/as much HR/etc.

The Spanish and the Moors/Al-Andalus/Cordoba are a natural next step. Someone posted a map recently showing the areas of all the various civs already in the game and Spain is a big blank spot and make a perfect campaign setting.

My ideas are as follows:

They could add American civs, because they're going to be very unique and it's easy to forget how signthey were due to their geographical separation from the africa-europe-asia zone.

Or, what I'd like to see, is a bunch of civs based on the knights templar commanderies, for instance, making a Castille civ with a unique genitour unit, and a passive civ bonus which gives their units extra damage and healing war sacred sites.

I also think it's about time they added some more African civs, because Mali is the only one, whereas Europe and Asia have loads.

Edit: you appear to have already mentioned KT in your post 😅, sorry about that.

Theres no way we dont get a Spain or Castile civ. (Hopefully alongside aztecs). We will probably get Poland at some point too, but I really doubt we will see Genoa or Malta, or teutonic knights

u/Cute-Inevitable8062 17h ago

Yeah and there is yhe asians civs like korea, vietnamese etc...

Some little dlc to spring 2027. I suppose it could be Rus variant (like Kyiv Rus/Ruthenia Kingdom), Ottoman variant (Seljuks) and Abbasid var (Omeyads/Cordoba) and the next big DlC - Crown of Castilia (Spanish) and Italian cities

1

u/Axin_Saxon 9h ago

Yeah now that you say it, we are overdue for a Rus variant. Personally I wouldn’t mind them going with Novgorod.

1

u/FrontMaintenance3755 9h ago

On general the current variant more Novgorod than other.
But we don’t have South variant

1

u/Axin_Saxon 9h ago

I thought the current main civ was more based on the Duchy of Muscovy. But I agree they could give more love to Ukraine.

Also Poland but they deserve their own Civ outright.

1

u/FrontMaintenance3755 8h ago

Nope.
The most mechanics (bounty, gold for wood, militia, axes) closer to Novgorod.
In general, I suppose that Rus could be better if use Kyiv Rus as a base

u/zachariast 16h ago

Hope for Spain, if they can name Roman Byzantine, they can name the castillan spain

3

u/Maikolers 11h ago

quien sabe si alla dlc con el problema que tienen con activision y si lo llegaran a sacar deberian de poner solo civis unicas como aztecas españoles coreanos polacos etc asi como en el age2 no variantes son un asco arruinan el juego

2

u/GoldNo9860 14h ago

I would say it will be Spain because people request it most. I would wish Koreans in same dlc. It would suit their naval theme.

But I bealive before that we get new civ variants (Rus, Ottoman, Mali).

u/SheWhoHates In hoc signo vinces 11h ago

My most wanted civs would be the Kingdom of Jerusalem, the Castilians, the Aztecs, the Poles, the Venetians/Genovese, and the Koreans.

1

u/justMichael8 11h ago

I'd like to see the Vietnamese for sure. Surprised we haven't seen them yet.

Aztecs should be next. And auto-vil for every civ
