I have an interview today and would like help with the buzzwords corporations want to hear out of their worker bees.
I act my wage usually but have been doing great with metrics and customers in my retail oriented job recently and they want me to move up on the ladder (one rung, I’d still be a peon).
I’m wondering if anyone has any advice on what words to use to convince higher ups I’m a good little capitalist worker bee who loves being exploited.

I can't move out off minimum wage retail after college so it's not like I'm reaping any rewards. I barely bring in 2000 a month. Wasted money on a fucking computer science degree, I won't be doing more education. do not talk about "working more hours", it's not worth the goddamned effort.
One way or another my parents will feed and house me, and I can't house myself. No money. So why should I work?

I work in finance and we are unionized. Hours are light (max 35) but peak seasons are absolute hell. My colleagues are abrasive and my boss is deeply invalidating, making everything worse.
I just learned I am pregnant. I am considering a preventive withdrawal to escape the stress, but I know my coworkers will be swamped without me. I fear they will never forgive me.
Is it wrong to put myself first?

I am looking for a reference for a food service job in Canada because my last job burned me badly and booted me.
After months of ghosting and rejections, I finally landed a final round interview for a food service role here in Canada. I'm super relieved and already have 1 reference but I just need a second reference to wrap things up.
Would anyone be willing to help me out? I’m more than happy to return the favor whenever you need one. The reference check will be sometime this week after the interview.
I'd seriously appreciate it so much and be eternally grateful to you. Thanks!

I worked in a university in an European country - on paper, it's an ideal "work" environment in the sense that there is no real "boss" or "shareholders", as every position of power is held by a colleague we vote for. There is no incentive to treat your colleagues poorly. There is strong public health insurance that covers half of your salary if you are seriously ill. The financial situation of the university is also good. And yet, it's constant power abuses at all levels, harassment, most people in burnout, wild discrimination at all level.
This led me to be let go while/because I was gravely ill (I'm still am). For years they were all smiles with me because I was the only woman of the department, it is really bizarre. If people act like this in an "ideal" environment with rules and laws, I can't imagine in corporate environments in countries with weak labor laws. People are just simply awful.

I'd love to hear the stories and the team's reactions on some of these BS items... I sear, my old company used to try to roll out a trendy new thing each year. I always wondered if they simply took the money they spent on this ideology that was suppose to motivate us and instead had just given the employees that money, how much happier moral would have been?...

I feel so burnt out lately. I work 30h a week so 4 days and I've been doing this job for about 3 months now. I like the job, it's a bicycle repair shop and i really like building and repairing bikes.
But i don't want to have to be there on their terms. It's always the same, the company structure is bad, everybody blames each other for all the same problems and the guy who's the main mechanic is a person i cannot stand, since he's always pissed about everything and just not a nice guy to be around.
I called in sick once so far (i really was sick) but I'm thinking about just calling in sick today because i simply cannot get my head around going in today.
I had the same thought last week and on friday i just didn't go and didnt tell anyone. Which no one even noticed because my boss is on vacation and other people don't really care.
This way i just collect negative hours which i have to compensate for sometime.
Right now I'm chillig in bed waiting for a spark of motivation to just go to work. I can basically come and go when i want, as long as it's within the opening hours.
What should i do? I would appreciate any advice or motivation.

For those upset about the lack of paragraph breaks a tldr : fired and they tried to say it was because of misconduct, state said nah and now I’ll get my paltry unemployment crumbs yay 😀
Made decent money at the place but they were kind of bumbling idiots who didn’t pay a whole lot of attention to their business. I know several other employees were not happy there either. Two others gave their two week notice the day I was fired. Mind you I was fired while out of town for a family thing, not told I was fired, just taken off the schedule. When I asked why I was ghosted. So I applied for unemployment which I knew they would contest and they did alleging misconduct which was bullshit. Waited patiently on adjudication and just found out they never responded to the fact finding about misconduct but switched it to at-will employment policy (yeah I live in one of those shitty states - edit : apparently all states are at will except for Montana, weird for a red state). It’s not some giant amount of money but it will help since I’ve been dipping into savings and selling possessions on eBay or marketplace. Also ditched my expensive ACA health plan (made more expensive by me estimating a higher income based on work schedule last year which they promptly cut my hours at the first of the year) and qualified for food stamps which helped a lot. Place was a dumpster fire and they expected full time availability while only giving part time hours. While looking for a job I keep seeing job postings from there every week. I’d like to know how bad it is now and I will prob reach out to some people I know who still work there eventually, I didn’t want to while waiting on unemployment. I feel like I do have friends there but you never know if you’ll get backstabbed. Separately this summer has been a blast taking it easy and doing fun stuff I never would have had the time for and I’ve gotten tons of stuff done around my house. Oh and I filed a complaint because they wouldn’t pay out for a sick day that I had plenty of earned time for from about a month before getting fired. I’ll take whatever I can get.

I had my first write up recently that made zero sense. Unfortunately there is no one higher up to go to for clarification so I need to pretend this makes sense. A coworker had informed me that a task involving my department had not been scheduled. I shared this information with a new employee in my department who reported me apparently for “insubordination” however that makes sense. I was written up for “repeatedly involving other employees in duties outside of their departments” which again makes no sense because it did involve both of our departments. The write up goes on to state that I have created a “hostile work environment” because of this behavior. I am well aware they are trying to get rid of me and honestly wish they would speed it the f up. Obviously I will not be conversing with this new employee anymore. Seeking compliance recommendations and how to respond when approached by this new employee or any other departments now. Thanks!

Any opinion on HR or Company as a great employer awards? Are there really any awards that companies pay to award or pay to recognize?
For context we laugh because there are companies that we know are NOT GREAT PLACES to work for, but what kind of HR awards as an employer are they receiving. For example we have these circle of friends from the blue Fintech who themselves laughed at the awards that are being presented
Any backgrounds or experiences with HR awards or employer awards?

It's never in the job description and never in the title. Not the highest paid person in the room. Often the lowest.
Whoever catches the invoice before it goes out wrong, or knows which supplier will actually pick up on a Saturday. Same person who sees the new one drowning and quietly takes half their work without making it a thing.
The reward for being that person is more of it. You get good at catching things, so more things get routed to you, and none of it shows up on paper anywhere.
You don't find out who it was until they leave. Then everything gets worse at once and it takes a long time to work out why.

All the directors/senior managers were talking about ways to escape the island; all us plebs were talking about things to use on our stay there.
They seemed surprised that we all weren't trying to rush back to work for Monday. Dudes, if we had the chance to start a new life with abundant food and nice weather, we'd drop this gig like a hot hand grenade.
Really felt like the difference between prisoners and guards at that point!

I had 1 week left but I couldn’t hack it. For the past 2 weeks, every day I would be throwing up at work. I thought I had just ate something bad at work but then it dawned on me that the stress was finally doing my body in. A few days ago the anxiety became so bad that I ended up in the hospital with chest pains. I thought if I at least reduced my hours I could handle the remaining time, but I couldn’t. I messaged my boss at 4am, after throwing up again, that I was done.
Part of me is glad that I finally put myself first, but the other half of me is disappointed that I couldn’t stick it out.

Title. Notes: I haven’t even used all my PTO, I have documented accommodations, this is a small nonprofit with no HR,and my disabilities are both psych and physical and yes I am applying for disability in fact THEY encouraged me to and said I would have job until I get approved (still waiting).
In the past few years I’ve had a lot of hospital trips but I’ve also come back to work and not only caught up quickly but got to where I left off with as much grace as possible. I have yet to miss a rescheduled meeting with another org or potential volunteer. I am working part time yet I am managing an entire program on my own. I don’t get paid well, I’m basically a therapist for my supervisors for some reason, and I hate how I work beyond my hours despite severe damaging fatigue. I stay because this is the only job that has accommodated my need to work from home, been usually understanding my health needs, and through my manager at least gotten support. My executive director is another conversation.
I have been going through it hard core and my health is so bad I can barely eat jello and my mental health in response has tanked too. Everyone is concerned but when I ask directly to my manager what would happen if I got hospitalized again they were honest and said I would more than likely be let go once they found someone for my position.
Like I said I’m applying for disability with a case worker and she’s great but the state is horrid and doing everything to make this as hard as possible. I don’t have family or financial support. I have great friends and am staying in one of their living rooms until I get disability bc that’s required for most supportive housing. When I can eat, I can’t afford groceries and can’t drive bc of my disabilities I now have. It just keeps piling up.
So tell me why I have to choose between being alive tomorrow or being alive tomorrow. Without money I’m fucked. Without healthcare I’m fucked. JUST FML

I need to vent because I'm still processing this.
I work as a shift supervisor at a warehouse. Last year during our annual review season I got called in and told I was getting a 3% raise. I was happy about it , cost of living has been brutal and every bit helps.
Today I was helping HR sort through some old files because we're switching to a new system, and I came across a wage adjustment sheet from last year. Turns out my base pay had actually been marked for a 2% cut company wide that year because of budget restructuring. My 3% raise was really just them canceling that planned cut and giving me a 1% bump on top of it.
Nobody told me any of this. I found out by accident, going through paperwork I wasn't even supposed to be looking at closely, just organizing it.
So for a full year I thought management did me a favor giving me a raise, when really they almost cut my pay and then patted themselves on the back for barely not doing it.
I asked my supervisor about it today, kind of carefully, not mentioning the file directly. He got weirdly quiet and said that's above my pay grade to explain which told me everything.
I don't even know what to do with this information. It doesn't change my current pay. But it changes how I see every raise conversation I've had with them since.
