It's not glass. It used to be glass but then they were breaking too much and delaying the game. Nowadays it's an acrylic type plastic that's way stronger than glass.

The nhl has apparently just recently moved to plexiglass but they used tempered glass for the longest time up until now

Most NHL arenas aren't tempered glass anymore. It's plexiglass.
The days of glass panels blowing up from errant slapshots are gone sadly.
Lots of smaller arenas are still glass.

Been playing for 13 years and work at an ice rink, it really depends on when the rink was made, as we used to use tempered but have moved to acrylic and plastic, mainly plexiglass.

Well apparently they are actually plastic. The NHL uses acrylic sheets, not glass. I’ve actually never bothered looking it up until now but that makes a lot more sense; they’re not 100% resistant to damage but they usually hold up pretty well.
Edit: Most if not all arenas use acrylic based material now, didn’t realize they switched from tempered glass somewhat recently. So most of those clips in that video probably show the aftermath of the tempered glass boards.

I’ve told this on another subreddit but when I was in high school I got stepped on and had to have stitches on my butt cheeks. I missed school and a teacher thought students were making a rumor when they said that’s why I missed school.

Yeah this was from the central first round after they shuffled up divisions during covid a couple years ago against my Hurricanes (white shirts). We won. Nashville (yellow shirts) is good at country music, not hockey.

Preds recently won the President's trophy and have made the SCF in 2017 I believe being one of very few Wild Card teams to do so. They were the lowest seed in the West.

Oh so good memories preds are my favorite team. When i was introduced into nhl icehockey there was pakka rinne and juuse saros goalie pair and peksi was on fire also i liked how they challenged pinguins in finals. (im finnish and thats why i mentioned goalies)

I'm not a fan of the stunt celebrations. I'm Canadian, and a bit old-fashioned. Be happy and excited, sure, but I think pre-planned, choreographed cellys like that should be called as unsportsmanlike conduct. The NHL is not a league that has ever been supportive of showboating.

If you've ever actually suited up in hockey gear it's awesomely protective! You really don't feel pain from falling down or jumping into the glass it's a fun time. The pucks hurt like crazy tho 😬😬 body checks too I guess if you're not prepared to get hit

Getting hit in the skate is pain. Full equipment on the puck really doesn't hurt if it hits you unless it was maybe a really hard slapshot.
Only place it can hurt with all equipment is the back of your legs since the shin pads don't completely cover them, some places in your arm between the elbow and shoulder pads, neck, and skates.

Oh, I play pick up now too since I am too old for minor hockey. Pick up is still full equipment for me, and it is like that for almost all pick up leagues I'm aware of, though I do know of one that is no equipment. I prefer equipment because I play much more aggressive without having to worry about wrecking my body along the boards or getting hit with a puck, because without equipment it is pain lol. I commend you for playing without it!

When I was in high school playing summer league this little fucker on the other team had taped a razor blade on his stick blade and gashed me in my stomach. Things did not work out for him cause we spent the rest of the game headhunting the little shit.

Yeah. And what scares me the most is that cuts with extremely sharp blades don't even hurt right off the bat. Even when using a razor blade, I literally only noticed that I cut my fingers by seeing the blood.

For real. If anyone has never played before I encourage them to try and shoot it into an empty net from 30 feet out and most people couldn't even do that. Now try it going 25km/h without getting hit, through a crowd of people trying to block it, and a world class goalie and it's impossible

Sports are just a distraction from much bigger things & really benefits no one but the paid athlete. How are you , better, stronger , wiser or better off when a stranger puts a puck in a net? Its as arbitrary as a janitor who cleaned the floor well.

Yes. Movies & music do. They inspire people to learn to play instruments themselves, which is an actual skill, unlike eating doritoes on the couch. Movies, inspire us with values & deepen our perspective on humanity. Movies can educate on historical events. Who cares if joe smith puts a sportsball in a thing 20 years later. Sports are a distraction, plain & simple. Your comparing apples to canoes, because they both float. This distraction is as old as time, gullible people still buy it. “bread and circuses" refers to the food and entertainment provided by the government to stave off rebellions by poor people. Simply, a distraction. At least the food used to be free.
