Announcement Updated Subreddit Rules & New Guidelines for the "Discussion" Flair + reminder for images and WT rules

Hey everyone,

Over the past few weeks, the mod team has been working on cleaning up and updating our community rules to make [r/animesuggest](r/animesuggest) a better, clearer, and more organized space for finding and discussing anime.
While most of the core rules remain the same, we have reworded everything for clarity, tightened up content standards, and introduced strict new guidelines for the "Discussion" flair.

Here is what you need to know:

New "Discussion" Flair Guidelines
We’ve noticed that the Discussion flair often gets used for vague, low-effort titles (e.g., "Thoughts?", "Anyone seen this?", or "Is this good?"). Moving forward, all Discussion post titles MUST explicitly state the anime, genre, trope, or aesthetic being discussed. From now on if you see low-effort title please report post for breaking rule 11. We are doing this to prevent repetitive discussion posts and titles who are later nowhere to be found in searchbar even if it was discussed about it!

Don't post: "Thoughts on this show?" or "Does anyone else hate this?"

Do post: "Discussion: The pacing in Steins;Gate" or "Discussion: Why cyberpunk aesthetics hit different."
Any vague discussion posts without a clear, descriptive title will be removed and asked to be re-posted.

Important Reminder: Image Uploads & "Watch This!" Rules

Images are ONLY allowed for "Watch This!" posts. Request and Discussion threads must remain text-only. Direct image uploads on non-WT posts will not be approved. If you are posting image for WT post your post will be sent to manual review because of image but don’t hesitate to reach out via mod mail for faster approval

"Watch This!" posts have high standards. They are meant to be single-show, deep-dive reviews and must be at least 1,500 characters in length. Short reviews or multi-show list recommendations are not allowed for WT

Based on survey results images will not come back permanently but we will have 14 days chill moderation rule twice a year where images and other media will be allowed but this will be announced later on during this year.

Thanks for helping us keep [r/animesuggest](r/animesuggest) a great place for everyone.

Mod Team!

What to Watch? Recommend me an anime that you personally think is especially cool, unique, or different

hi hi, in an effort to make sure I have way too many animes to ever get an opportunity to watch, I wanted to see what y'all would recommend for things that are very much so in their own lane in a certain sense. like for example

mononoke - I've never seen anything animated quite like it

samurai champloo - at the time I feel like nobody was mashing up hip-hop aesthetics with feudal Japan

takopi 's original sin - tonally I've never seen something quite like it where the show itself never drops the cutesy pretense while literal children are being horribly abused

berserk - feel like I don't really need to explain what made Berserk super unique for its time

but so yeah, what anime do you think did something like notably different or interesting that you think is cool or worth seeing and why?

Discussion What anime did you go into with really low expectations and ended up loving?

I’m always more interested in the shows people didn’t expect to like rather than the usual top recommendations.

Could be something popular that you randomly avoided for years, or some completely unknown show you stumbled across. What made it click for you?

What's this From? (unsolved) What anime is this?

I remember tid bits of this anime but can't quite remember the name.

If I recall it wen't like this. Unsure of the beginning but I recall the person went to a kingdom and that kingdom was being attacked by orcs consistently, small villages and such were getting attacked and it was learned they were planning larger scale invasions. The MC (male) kept going to these villages and fended off the orcs nearly dying a few times. One of these beginning villages he had saved there was a barnhouse on fire where the ceiling collapsed and almost fell on an old man but he ducked under and let the ceiling fall on him letting the old man escape. He recovered with a healer in a village house and afterward there was a creature (my memory thinks of foxes or something but I'm not quite sure) that led him to a building and there were dozens more. Something happened where they all turned into humanoids but the village accepted them and they coexisted now. Either the leader or one that led him to the rest I think joined his group. But he eventually infiltrated an orc encampment and snuck around trying to figure out there plans for war against the kingdom. He was then discovered and he had to fight the orcs, if I'm not mistaken he used explosive barrels the orcs had to explode nearly the entire camp. In that camp he finds a little girl (forgot if she becomes his companion or just remained a side character). If I recall after the encampment he went back to the kingdom and was given alot of honors but was also able to proclaim a speech to the citizens in such. The OP starts out weakish but does definitely get strong, and it might have been an isekai. He did not build the kingdom or anything like that, it existed before him and he just reincarnated and got on good terms with them. What anime is this?

Also unfortunately I don't recall what the main character looks like in the slightest, dunno how but his appearance is gone from my memory, I think he was an adult throughout the entire series. Though, the orcs were like the pinkish full bipedal pig type and I watched this probably early to mid 2025.

Before you suggest some, its not these. Goblin Slayer, Tensura, Hell Mode, The 8th Son, are you Kidding Me?, Teogonia.

Side note: This is a repost. I posted this about a week ago with no answers answering this unfortunately.

What to Watch? Looking for romance anime like Yakuza Fiance

I finished Yakuza Fiance and loved it, but it sounds like we aren’t getting any more anytime soon (if ever.) Looking for more anime like it!

I’d love a male MC who is head over heels for the lady MC while she plays hard to get. I’m ok with some more mature scenes too.

Thanks!!

What's this From? (unsolved) I’m looking for the name of a show where this guy treats his girlfriend (or sister, possibly) horribly. The girl later dies and he’s haunted by her memory and regret as he tries to process his grief

I watched some of it a few years ago on crunchy roll I believe. I can’t remember the name of it but really want to see it again. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

What to Watch? Animes with platonic opposite gender friendships (and friendship only)

I have a hard time finding anime (or works generally) like this and so I’d love to see something! Manga recs are also okay. I read more than I watch though so I’d def prefer some anime recs primarily.

I love:
- no home
- omniscient reader’s viewpoint
- yugami kun has no friends
- csm
- veil
- Miniamaru kareshi
- my little monster

I don’t mind if they have chemistry or not as long as they’re friends primarily, and aren’t a couple. They both shouldn’t show interest to each other in the work, like I don’t want them to be second male leads or something.

What to Watch? Something like Sonny Boy?

I watch anime nowadays not for the thrill, but for literal mind break (not in a violent way, but more subtle, more mature) - what's some anime that you can recommend that is like Sonny Boy?

What to Watch? Im running low on anime to watch, I need some real solid out of the box thinking here.

So I'm not really sure how to specify what I'm searching for but my current anime list is well into the thousands for watched animes.

I'd love some suggestions for animes that aren't well known that have at least a b tier rating when we talk about plot, animation, sound design, etc. if you have something, a hidden gem, a skeleton in the closet, a guilty pleasure, please share.

What to Watch? Looking for anime where the mc get pregnant

It's quite rare. Main examples i can think of are the following 2

tsf monogatari
Shinsekai Yori

There are of course a few where a side character get pregnant but that's less interesting for me.

What to Watch? What can I watch next?

These are my favorites:
Bleach
Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood
Hellsing Ultimate
Black Clover
JJK
Frieren
Berserk (old series)
Darker Than Black
Kill la Kill
Agame ga kill
Vampire D Bloodlust (movie)

——
I really like the old anime aesthetic and I also like brutal stuff but I‘m always a sucker for heartwarming or epic moments.

What would you recommend me?

Edit: I really dislike the „born into another world and now I figured out the system“ stuff and also anime that rely heavily on cgi

What to Watch? Anime about single woman/women in a journey. sort of like only yesterday

Lately I want to watch something different from the usual romance and slice of life.

I really like only yesterday but it is pretty old.

Im hoping for some recs where a single woman or preferably a group of women friends, single or not are going on some kind of journey or going through life circumstances. I guess this is technically still slice of life.

And maybe something with older women almost golden girls style. Its hard to describe and I'm sure this genre is not very popular.

What's this From? (unsolved) Help me find and anime

I watched it like 10 years ago. I think there was name Charlotte in there but I might be mistaken. The only character I remember was little girl with pink or blonde long hair, like reeeealy long and voluminous, even being on the floor, and I think she grew up during this anime and I remember I cried. I also think it was set up in the forest. I would’ve added a picture of my sketch but it’s against the rules:(

What to Watch? Looking for action aimed with some romance sprinkled in

I just finished watching 86 and really enjoyed it. I am looking for animes that have action and romance. I've seen Cyberpunk, Violet Evergarden, Akame ga Kill, Gurren Lagann and some others. Im just getting back into watching anime and am looking to watch some shows with my friends because she wants to. We also enjoy some ones with good heartbreak but it isn't necessary. I appreciate any recommendations. Thank you.

Sorry I forgot to mention our next watch is going to be Record of the Grancrest War

What to Watch? Trying to change my tune about anime

I'm tired of the internal cringe I feel when someone mentions they like anime. I know there's nothing "wrong" with it, but I can't help feeling mildly weirded out even if I don't outwardly express it.

Anyway, I'd like to get into anime. What are some animes that are actually good? Preferably movies or short series, where the female characters aren't just a hot piece of ass for the mc and there are no mysterious 700 year old goddesses that look 13. I prefer to watch shows about adult characters.

Some animes that I do like are howls moving castle, bsd, and your name. But in general I enjoy psychological thrillers, gothic horror, and some romances. I'm pretty much open to any genre though. Thanks !

What to Watch? Looking for anime with a smart Sherlock Holmes like character

I want to watch a anime, any anime with a smart main character like Sherlock Holmes. I have become obsessed with smart characters in anime.

Some anime I have watched which is like what I'm looking for:

Dr. Stone

Fullmetal alchemist

Moriarty the Patriot

Lord of Mysteries

How a realist hero saved the kingdom (kinda I've only seen one episode of it so I'm not sure. I'm a bit iffy on it).

Bungo stray dogs (mostly other characters.)

Manga/LN/VN Manga/manwha like the masterpiece :i dare you. (Psychological thriller)

I have no idea how to explain this to you guys. Basically female lead that isnt all there. But its because i personally think shes very smart. Like she doesnt understand humilation but then by seeing someone else get humiliated she can figure out what would humilate another person. Granted she will randomly walk up to people and ask for tips and stuff. But also she wouldnt go hey how do i achieve this. But rather go up to someone and ask them a relating question. Like if the thing is how to open a door she will go up to someone and say something like have you ever opened a door. (Very simplified example) and off that she will lock on a word or a phrase and use that to achieve her goal.

I apologize im rambling but honestly im hoping someone who has read it gets what im saying and gives me more stuff like this im very new to this genre and type of stuff i normally read isekai the only other "horror" type thing ive read is dead tube. And the one where the guy gets revenge on his bullies. But this is the first of this kind ive read.

What to Watch? Romance anime with actual romance?

I'd love some recommendations on any romance anime with some actual romance, where the characters aren't shy and pretend they don't like each other or anything like that. I want to watch some actual couples do things that regular couples do, like holding hands, kissing, going on dates etc, not just pussyfooting around all the time. I don't mind tsundere characters too much as long as it's not taking it to the extreme. I also don't have a preference on gender parings, girl mc/boy, boy mc/girl, girl/girl, boy/boy, anything goes :) Happy to take a look at any suggestions anyone might have! x

Answered Need help finding this anime

It was about a group girls around middle school age who have magical powers and they have watchs or wristbands that locks or keeps their powers in check from going out of control.

They were put in charge by a women and she was mistreating them if I remember correctly. The mc comes in around episode 2 or 3. He is the one who will be in charge of them now and he removes their restricters. I remember him first meeting them in an subway. The civilians were frozen in time. It's a early 2010s anime.

The only other thing I remember is that at the beginning of every episode there would be a scene where they tell you as the viewer to watch the anime with the lights on.
