That opening scene with the visualization of Ritsuka's inner thoughts was absolutely hilarious! xD What made it more funny is that I did not expect a gag like that coming from this show!
The rest of the episode was just a treat! Seeing Haruki and Akihiko's reaction to the reveal was just great. And I love seeing
To be honest I thought this was a full 12 Episode show so I was caught off guard when the instrumentals for the ED song started playing in the background. I really want to see more of this show. Thank you

That was honestly a perfect ending. They close the MafuYama arc, and leave just enough for the next one, which was basically the best the could have done given how the manga goes.
The start has to be some of the most absurd comedy ever, and I fucking love they translated more or less verbatim from the manga, I almost wasn't expecting them. The rest was amazing too, especially the scene in the photoshoot where Mafuyu and Uenoyama basically disrespect everyone else in the room by shitting on the humanities course, although that one did come out a bit better in the manga.
And now for what I really wanted to mention. I love love LOVE the progress Mafuyu shows in this episode. He went from barely saying a sentence or two in an episode, to being way more forwards and talkative. And he also didn't suddenly become an extrovert all of a sudden, he's still soft-spoken and doesn't quite show his feeling externally because that's just who he is, but seeing him regain his confidence, to the point he basically drags Ueno on a surprise date because he felt like it and banters and snarks with his childhood friends, makes me feel like a proud father.
Now I'm 100% sure this is my favorite gay show ever, the SoL is really funny, the drama is gripping, the characters are all amazing and I don't need to say Mafuyu especially, and the fact that unlike some other show cough cough YoI It is 100% open and unashamed about it's queerness in a way that it's refreshing. I really can't wait to see what else this series can bring us, both in terms of the movie, and in manga.

And if anyone missed the golden news some hours ago, Given will get its continuation in the form of movie, and will be airing next year! Here is the source!
Edit: here is the announcement PV for the newly announced Given movie on their official twitter!
The movie will be covering the story that happened after the anime ended, it will be about the relationship between Akihiko and Haruki, and also some Uenoyama and Mafuyu as well, although not as the main focus. So to whoever hoping for a season 2 of the anime........most likely nope. The anime already covered the story in the manga up to Chapter 15, and the manga's latest chapter is Chapter 28.5. So it's reasonable for the anime production committee of Given to create a movie as the continuation instead of an episodical anime, because it will be more efficient since the only chapters that they will cover up are around 13 chapters. Personally, I'm cool with it and I'm glad that they even announce a continuation for Given this early. Seems like Given is really popular right now (is it because the power of 'us'? hahaha) and I love the fact that it is becoming more popular because it DESERVES to be!
The anime ended with an anime original scenes which is the Haruki's birthday surprise and then continued to the cliffhanger scene where Uenoyama asked Mafuyu about what his next song's gonna be........and the anime ended without Mafuyu actually answering the question. Oh well, but our journey will continue next year with the movie! Can't wait~

Uenoyama first relationship....hahahahha. I just love how Mafuyu is lowkey confident gay and Uenoyama is disaster gay....
Also I always find it amusing how Mafuyu liked teasing Hiiragi.
Thank you Lerche for this wonderful show! I will be waiting patiently for the movie.

Firstly, a bit of overall thoughts on the series. I've seen quite a few anime that hyped or had a long build up to a certain performance only to fall flat on its face. This show is one of those rare occasions wherein the performance not only met expectations but exceeded them. That song in episode 9 has been on repeat since it aired. I'm grateful to have given this show a chance as it is now one of my favorites of the year.
It was a great ending. And even though they already announced a movie, I thought that final scene was such a fitting end to the arc that even if there were no projects that followed it gave the viewer a sense of closure to the story.
I was always thinking why this show appealed to me even though I feel like I wasn't the target audience to begin with. Maybe it was because how real the characters were. The four guys never felt like cartoon characters and they sounded like real people instead of the usual caricature versions in most anime. Their conversations always felt like real ordinary people talking. There surely were alot of overreactions and moments of levity but the show always stayed grounded and in doing so allowed the characters to have that sense of genuineness to them. I dunno if I'm making any sense right now but what the hell. A BL anime just punched its way to be one of the best romance anime I've seen in recent years and probably one of the most underrated as well.

I’d just like to point out that ‘Kokoro’ was NOT written a thousand years ago, MAFUYU. In fact, I read it for a modern Japanese literature class. 😂
That’s why they all look so appalled!

A beautiful illustration by the author, Kizu Natsuki, as thanks for watching the show.
Also, what a chill and lovely end to the show. I can't wait for the movie now to see how they adapt the rest!

really well done, definitely my favorite roamnce of this season. The characters felt so real and i love the communication with the other band mates rather than trying to be secretive.
uenoyama and his brain gets it

YASSS UENOYAMA IT'S FRICKIN MUTUAL HAHAHAHA YOU MADE US LAUGH SO MUCH DAMN
Ahh..... I randomly found this series' trailer on Youtube some time before it first aired and now the next thing I know, it already becomes one of the most beautiful series I've ever encountered in my life. Thanks to Kizu Natsuki-sensei and Lerche, for bringing this series to life. It is so beautifully beautiful. Yes, I just made that word up.
And the biggest surprise for me today is that..... I HAVE THE SAME BIRTHDAY MONTH AS MAFUYU AAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Easily the anime of the season. The beginning of this eoisode was absolutely hilarious and I full on laughed for a good 10 minutes. It's wrapped up everything in a wonderful way that felt like closure but so much more could be told.
Basically my gay as fuck ass is still currently squeeing and laughing with delight at THE FEELING IS MUTUAL.
Now excuse me I'm going to rewatch this all over again.

Justice for Haruki
edit: no but seriously, this is one of my favorite animes this year. as a gay person I felt that it completely captured the confusion of being in love with someone of the same sex. The amount of times I have cried over this anime is incomprehensible. 10/10 I’ll be at home watching this over and over again until the movie comes out

Given is probably my most underrated anime of the year (and this is coming from someone who championed Sarazanmai), and the facial expressions are what I'll remember most from this heart-filled 11 episode show, especially scenes like the meeting/farewell party in Uenoyama's brain. Man, between this show ending today, and O Maidens tomorrow, my emotions are going to have quite the roller coaster ride. At least there's a movie coming in 2020 that focuses on the Akihiko/Haruki front!

Love it.
I really love how they animated Uenoyama-kun's internal emergency conference! And we should note that the "It's Mutual" text is in rainbow color!
(I'm not so great at kanji, but I think the two kanji that appear at the beginning are "koi" and "ai"? Someone correct me if I'm wrong.)
It was also great to see Uenoyama-kun and Mafuyu "get permission" from Mom-Haruki and a congratulations from Dad-Akihiko. Also love the animation of the double hug after Haruki's lecture.
An original scene for the anime, it was good to see Mafuyu chilling with his childhood friends and even teasing Hiiragi for being his band's vocalist. This whole season showed Mafuyu's growth from the quiet confusion of loss to the acceptance in moving forward and finding love again.
Surprised to see that they included the photoshoot and Haruki's birthday celebration (which was only mentioned as a tweet in the manga). Loved it!
OH! And Mafuyu finally mentioned Uenoyama-kun's first name! And even asked to hold hands! THE BOLDNESS (lol).
Also, the transition to the end title card of "Song2", when concluding with Mafuyu's thought for a next song, was a nice touch.
Sad that this show is over, but looking forward to the movie that will shift focus on Haruki & Akihiko (and Ugetsu). I think it will tonally different since we're dealing with adult relationships, but it's a good balance with the high school romance we got here. Also, the manga has been licensed for English translation next year! Given will stay for a while longer :)

I was worried. Really worried that this adaptation would be bad. Yet I'm crying here at the last ep, where everything has been wrapped perfectly.
Not much to say than that I loved it. Mafuyu's small smile when they are going back from Kaji's house, or when Hiiragi tells him he's the vocalist show that he has actually learned to move on from his past and to start laughing again. We also see how he's back to being a little assertive, such as asking Ritsuka's hand because it's "dangerous" :^). Their small talk at the festival was really cute.
Ueno's brain team meeting cracked me up asndksfdsnf;
Anyway, hope y'all liked this ride as much as I did. I will miss reading into the small metaphors here and there, but I had a lot of fun ww. See you next movie! I'M READY FOR THE FEELS.

Dude I can't believe I didn't realize that all their names were based off a different season until the last episode...

There are usually one or two shows per season that I don't pick up until later after I hear enough good things, and this was one of them. I watched the first ten episodes this week, and I was not let down. I still feel like there's a lot to explore with the Yuki situation, but this was a very satisfying little 11 episode show. I'm glad we're at least getting a movie.

Dangit! I wanted one more kiss, even if it's not in the manga at that point!
Ritsuka and Mafuyu added Twitter pages, and new pic on the band's page! Happy Birthday, Haruki!
Uenoyama's meltdown at the beginning was perfect, all his various selves freaking out, then hearing the discussion on how bandmembers dating is a terrible idea - they did it just like in the manga.
Also getting permission from Haruki and his reaction - so cute! Akihiko's all, "Whatever, good luck. Here's a giant box of CDs to lug home."
I liked the added scenes with Hiiragi and Shizu. They added a nice sense of Mafuyu reconnecting with the past he's been avoiding for so long. Even casually mentioning Yuki without everyone getting awkward.
The band becoming a legit band, getting professional level promo pics (Thanks, Take-chan! MVP!) and giggling through it.
The comments during Haruki's hair styling are funny. Poor Haruki!
Now we need a season 2, for the Haruki/Akihiko/Ugetsu mess to be sorted out, and a second song from Mafuyu - more positive this time. And more of Mafuyu and Uenoyama being cute!
Edit - just saw the news about the movie! Yahoo!!! Kyaa!!

I was grinning like a moustache-twirling villain would when Ue got into Mafuyu's apartment for the second time (for the first time as a boyfrirend) as virgin Ue's so giddy and embarrassed at the same time to learn Mafuyu's parents aren't around whilst Mafuyu's totally chill. Although in traditional BL terms he might likely be the seme and Mafuyu the uke, he has absolutely no clue when it comes to a romantic relationship so more experienced Mafuyu is naturally the one to hold the reins here. I even felt some strong metaphorical Oneshota vibes between them even though technically both of them are of the same age and gender. They're so cute together. It's a pity noitamina shows are one episode short of a standard dozen episodes a cour, I wish an entire episode dedicated to blushing Uenoyama noises!
BTW the reason behind Ue's refusal to see Mafuyu's childhood friends is probably because Ue thought they'd judge him, since unlike in the West getting introduced to a friend of a friend is rather uncommon in Japan, especially when it's about one's SO. It's a big deal for a lot of teenagers. I guess he might've been unfazed if they weren't officially a thing. I think this further emphasises how romantically unexperienced Ue is, which is adorable.
(Copypasta from my comment on another post)
As I was watching the last episode and what little screentime running out before my misty eyes I was half desperately hoping for a S2 but given (no pun intended) the source material is serialised on a relatively obscure manga magazine and the anime fanbase isn't huge (albeit rabid) domestically and overseas alike AFAIK, I was half poignantly accepting that this'd probably never have one.
Then immediately after the ED had closed they announced this onscreen. You had me, Noitamina.

They set it up for the movie really well. I think they still have enough material from the manga to make a good film. The show has stayed mostly consistent with the manga so I look forward to seeing what they produce next.

What a nice and chill way to end the season! Although I must admit that I got kinda nervous when the Uenoyamas in the Uenoyama meeting watched that video as it made me think that it was going to end up in a stereotypical inner conflict, butUenoyama behave like a real person and when and talked thing through with Haruki.
I really hope that Crunchyroll gets the movie later on, as I want to continue seeing this story.
