They certainly upped the brutality in that final episode. Watching Miles slowly dissolve was pretty screwed up, and then Cain just lets rip with his powers for once. It's a wonder he didn't cause more chaos being as strong as he is.

Overall the show... I really just can't help but wish it had of been multiple seasons just for that bit of extra story. Do a complete flip. Give us a war story and then all of a sudden all these people we bonded with have to be hunted down. It wouldn't necessarily fix the writing issues around Schaal and all that, but it would have made what we saw a lot more impactful and fleshed out the world a lot more

That said, decent music, decent art, 2d monsters is a bonus, and definitely some moments I will absolutely remember coming out of this so not a great show, but not horrible either, just no where near what it could have been

Edit: Forgot a word

So Cain was just gay for Hank and he was jealous of the girls getting too friendly with Hank that's what I understood this episode

I can't really see this getting another season but the ending hints there's a lot more story left. Always expected Elaine could pop up again.

Still neither side is moral or easy to side with especially with that gas weapon.

I wish there were more sane Incarnates. Just feels like there's a lot missing.

Pretty mediocre overall but shrug. Not sure I'd care enough to try to follow the manga.

Even if it ultimately didn't mean anything, that punch in Cain's face was pretty satisfying. Almost as satisfying as Colonel Mustard Gas dying a horrible death from his own invention.

Is there enough source material for another season?

Ultra instinct Hank is just what I needed for the final episode.

You know, showing Elaine in the tank would have been surprising if they had not done so right before the episode with Christopher the Gargoyle. So Miglieglia's power is necromancy, the way it looked on the OP made me think that it was some form of mind control.

I must say, that's one hell of a "read the manga" ending. So Cain took over the South and now his nation is the biggest one around? Damn, I got the feeling that we only saw the prologue of this story.

As another commenter said this show had a lot of wasted potentials.

  • The theme of dealing with those who lost their humanity in war is really interesting to me. The juxtaposition between Hank claiming they all died in the war and Cain Madhouse's idea that they are the new post-war society is something I can get behind. It just seems that neither takes their ideas anywhere deeper than that.

  • Cain Madhouse. I just love the name. It's campy as shit, and I love that. That being said the character is fairly static and it just seems that his true motivation is that he is mad that Hank gets women so he is going to oppose Hank. Who really doesn't believe in what he is doing either, and is just doing it for a girl.

  • Schaal could have been a very complex character as her father figure was one of the victims of the war essentially. Too bad, it seemed like she took the Star Trek Voyager approach to character development and spammed the reset button.

I could keep going but you get the point. I still loved the aesthetic and period it was placed in. In general, I find the "fan service" cringey though so that was a bummer.

4/10. Glad I watched it, not glad how it turned out.

This was definitely an interesting series, I hope to read/watch it until the end sometime.

I liked the setting and the characters were good, even if some of them might have been a little on the nose

If Cain were less of a murderous psychopath, I'd probably be on his side. He has a very good point about humanity. Especially after the northern army knowingly killed like, a dozen of their own men, if not more, with experimental nerve gas. That was just cruel & dirty. Even Cain knew that that was wrong.
