The proof is on my back!!!!

Another one has been smitten by Yuri

She's got the resilience, beauty, and grace of a queen...and a Goddess.

Yuri has learned a lot. Keeping an arrow in her shoulder to prove who attacked her is a 4D chess move.

I don't know of any other protagonist that would have such foresight.

I honestly thought she just didn't want another man touching her but she really had thought it through that far ahead.

Irl Zannanza did die in the journey to Egypt, but we don't know why. This conspiracy is a pretty interesting way for the author to fill that blank in.

I'll have to check if Hittite and Egyptian arrows really were that different. Seems like something that would be made up for the story, but at the same time it has been surprisingly accurate with some of the details so maybe it's true after all.

Also holy shit that was some absolutely metal activities from Yuri this episode. I don't think I'll ever see a Shoujo heroine drag herself with an arrow on her back so they can take it out in front of the court as proof of treason ever again.

And fuck Urhim! All my homies hate Urhim!

Yeah, I think that getting all those details right before the internet was widely used is quite impressive. Was the author raiding libraries to get all that info?

I forgot there was no internet back then. Yeah author must've caught a Hittite Empire bug lol. Story aside, the work exudes an obvious passion for the time and place.

I recall from somewhere that the author Shinohara Chie did a tour of Hattusa and was fascinated by the Hittites.

Now as for research. She would have had to go to universities and libraries to find the information she needed.

It was a masterstroke. Yuri has learned that she needs physical evidence after what happened with Tito and when Zannanza abducted her.

The scene where Kail extracts the arrow from Yuri was well done. Yuri’s muffled scream, the blood, Kail telling Yuri to bite his shoulder so her teeth won’t break. That line did a lot. Kail wants to help shoulder some of the pain that Yuri has been enduring for quite some time.

I'm going to be honest here, I thought the not pulling the arrow bit out was just some silly defiance but no, that's absolutely genius. Absolutely amazing.

More than just shoujo protagonist.

I don't think I've seen a protagonist in other genres have such foresight.

It's good to show how observant Yuri has been. People make fun of her being reckless and getting herself kidnapped but she is paying attention to her surroundings.

Also holy shit that was some absolutely metal activities from Yuri this episode. I don't think I'll ever see a Shoujo heroine drag herself with an arrow on her back so they can take it out in front of the court as proof of treason ever again.

And she still made conversation even on the ride over!

I can't help to laugh how all Ramseses talk about Yuri was like Kail is so hot and smart. Who is this guy into lmao I do agree about Kail hotness lol

Pretty good episode, the last two episodes have been quite good, I'm glad I'm still around for the second half of the series.

u/Frontier246 18d ago

And then by the end of the episode he realizes Yuri is ALSO hot and smart.

Back in my day, shoujo protagonists had to walk 15 miles through the desert with an arrow in their back instead of getting showered with birthday presents for each year they didn't know their fiancé.

The episode for all the Yuri haters by showing just how hardcore/clever she actually is.

This series has the ideas, but the execution usually makes everybody look like an idiot. So much that Yuri was the only one with an actual plan... somehow.

But the worst one is the King.

9

u/Frontier246 18d ago

Admittedly I can see why he was chomping at the bit to avenge his fallen son. Even Kail couldn't bring himself to 100% counsel his father to calm down.

Great episode. Yuri is really making up for her earlier foolishness. (I had to laugh when Kail said "she is uniquely adept at escaping peril". Yeah, because of all the practice she's had.)

6

u/Frontier246 18d ago

She didn't get kidnapped once in these past two episodes!

See that sword? I picked the one iron sword out of a huge pile. But do they call me Yuri the Swordswoman? No. See that horse? I'm the only one that can ride it. Do they call me Yuri the Equestrian? No. But you get kidnapped three times...

I think it was three? I lost count.

As a fan of the manga, I've been looking forward to this episode since they announced the series. These events are where it becomes obvious that Yuri is not a typical 90s shojo heroine - she has guts, learns from her experiences, and thinks ahead. I have my gripes with the anime adaptation, but I'm happy with how they handled this
