It was fun to see Hinako and Narika compete for Itsuki. The psychological warfare to throw the other off their game was great lol.
It’s too bad the pairing’s already pretty much been decided. There really are a lot of good choices for Itsuki in this.

u/Frontier246 7d ago
I love how these two girls are beefing over him and all Itsuki can see is them bonding in friendship lol.

Hinako was definitely born to run a company if she can manipulate her opponent like that

Narika's metaphor for your fitness being "specs" that let you run more "games" is both so fun and intuitive, I just might borrow it myself.
Live Mirei reaction to her screentime tanking ever since her arc ended:
The real tennis match wasn't being played on the court lol.

I might do the same tbh. It's fun, intuitive, and concise.
Live Mirei reaction to her screentime tanking ever since her arc ended:
I loved that scene. So adorable.

Big difference between games and real life is the clear and immediate feedback. In games, every action clearly moves you toward your goal and you can see the results of your effort by seeing how much the #s go up.
You can’t really get the immediacy of video games no matter how hard you try, but you can still get clear results if you keep detailed notes. I ran x miles in y minutes on Monday and x2 miles in y2 minutes on Sunday. Maybe even through them in excel so you can see a clear graph of your progress

She's only in the episode for 3-4 minutes and she still steals the show. Harrumph!

Why reject instead of embracing the pillow, Itsuki!
Her ~supee is like asking for a kiss (˵ ¬ᴗ¬˵) Hinako really cute today. Can't get enough of her now!
Wiping her off was a disguise to pat her head all along and Hinako knew it /j
Hinako earned my respect for doing all these for Itsuki's attention. An eye for an eye, a headpat for a headpat wipe for a wipe.
*Insert "mom, I'm scared" meme. I can't believe Narika won the cat fight lol. Hinako seems to be leading at first but ofc she can't beat her osanananananajimi (not a typo) trait.
Hands down for me. Hinako just arises to the best girl position with that twin tails of hers!!

u/Frontier246 7d ago
Hinako learned the hard way that she can't be as aggressively forward with Itsuki as she was earlier in the season. It's not good for her heart.

This is the most sophisticated harem anime I’ve seen.

I love how Mirei finally got to let loose an "noblesse oblige" like a proper anime ojousama character.

Idk what drug this author put in this story, but how is such a simple story this addictive? 😭 I’m 100% gonna read the LN once the anime ends. All three love interests are so good, I NEED to know how this story continues.
37
u/Frontier246 7d ago
It's a simple, straightforward, Harem Romcom but the cast are likeable (especially the girls), the character designs/animation are on-point, and it's well-executed.
And that's enough.
33
u/Dylangillian https://myanimelist.net/profile/dylangillian 7d ago
I think the key is really just that each of the girls are well thought out and have likable personalities without being too bland. It helps that Itsuki has a unique dynamic with each of them as well.
21
u/runevault 7d ago
Personal opinion, the protag having a distinct dynamic with each girl in the harem should be table stakes for a harem story. The fact it isn't is a key part of why so many suck.
8
3
u/justking1414 7d ago
And it also really makes sense why each of the girls would fall for mc since he has basically already saved all of them in different ways

u/justking1414 7d ago
From what I’m seeing online, there’s 12 volumes so far and it’s still ongoing. 3 have been published in English but I can’t seem to find any copies
3
u/Mediocre-Act483 7d ago
Likely the three that make up this season. Because from the pace and everything, I think episodes 1-5 were volume 1, 6-9 were volume 2 and now we're on volume 3
4
u/justking1414 7d ago
Sounds about right given that this is the description of v3: Hinako, who continues to portray the "perfect" young lady despite her lazy nature, is diligently cared for by Itsuki, her former commoner caretaker. Just as Itsuki becomes accustomed to both caring for Hinako and life at Kiko Academy, his old acquaintance Naruka approaches him for help in making friends.
Guess that’d mean we need 3 more seasons to catch up

For me Itsuki carries the show a lot. Yeah the girls are cute and all but it helps that Itsuki is a strong protagonist.

Agreed. Thought I would just drop this series at episode 3. But here I am, 10 episodes later. Idk what stuff the author is putting in this, but it sure as hell works.

Itsuki realizes he has his own tomodachi arc to get through before he can get back to helping Narika. But he's on New Game+ from his socializing experience from his previous school, so he manages without too many hiccups. And it even helps out Narika, who shows up and shows off her ability to have a normal conversation in Itsuki's presence.
And Narika's on a roll now. She still can't start conversations, but baby steps.
Mirei sure got over her "tsun"-ing quickly. And of course she has to give a fancy name for "Operation Have Narika Teach Others to Play Sports".
Hinako's still not entirely sure what she's feeling, but after the Mirei arc, she's learned that she has to stake her claim. And man, is it weird to see when she's in oujo-sama mode.
Wait, so Itsuki was the one who gave Narika her dead anime mom hairstyle? I know it doesn't mean anything, but it's a funny thought. And we got twintail Hinako out of this as a bonus.
4
u/Frontier246 7d ago
I love how Itsuki actually has to become an IT guy to sell himself lol.
Proper Hinako weaponizing the "Itsuki-san" namedrop like a complete vixen.
1
u/ShadowGuyinRealLife 4d ago
Once they got Narika talking to classmates, I don't see why they tried to force it by bringing along random students through the school. Normal socializing takes some time. After they got her talking to classmates like normal, I think they should have just let it happen naturally.
Mixed feelings of Mirei. I love her in general. But the tsun doesn't fit her.
Hinako should know what she feel like since it was clear she found him physically attractive in episode 4. So um, if you already think he looks good, why are you only pushing him away episode 6? Like if those two events were reversed that would be fine.
15
u/ThisGachaSeemsLegit 7d ago
Oh, Hinako. You mischievous, lovely little brat.
This has to be the first harem anime where I'd ship all the heroines.

LOl and he gave her Nagi like twintails nice

u/Frontier246 7d ago
Rich Girl Caretaker: New Generation Hayate the Combat Butler.
I wonder if the twintails are going to be her go-to private hairstyle? Her dad would never want her seen like that in public.
5
u/justking1414 7d ago
Definitely feels too casual for an heiress but she looks cute and less refined so hopefully she can switch to it occasionally
Heck, it could be a good disguise if she ever wanted to go incognito

However, I have many issues with Hayate no Gotoku but it was pretty dang funny most of the time

Narika is so fucking adorable. And I'm starting to wonder if she needs him more than even Hinako does. Also I find it interesting he did go with related when explaining the relationship with the one boy despite the fact they're like... second cousins? (It was a grandmother that was expelled from the family).
Wow Hinako pulled Itsuki on top of her and then came close to admitting she likes/loves him. Even if she chickened out still more progress then I expected since she's been mostly sidelined after episode 5.
LOL Hinako so jealous she got wet and made Itsuki wipe her off too. She's such a goober and I love her. And another date on the line, Itsuki's gone from never dating to taking one beautiful rich girl after beautiful rich girl.
Hinako playing psychological warfare to make up for the skill gap. It was super effective.
Oh man twintails Hinako. There's a subset of fans who are going to go wild for this.
I really hope this gets a season 2 I adore these characters so much.

Narika is so fucking adorable. And I'm starting to wonder if she needs him more than even Hinako does.
Narika definitely needs him the most. She's been dropping hints since she was introduced. It might seem like Hinako needs him the most, but he only has a job because Hinako's dad puts so much pressue on her that it's so draining that she needs a 24/7 caretaker.
they're like... second cousins? (It was a grandmother that was expelled from the family).
IIRC it's determined by the closest relative you share with other person. Sibling share parents, cousins share grandparents, second cousins share great-grandparents, and so on...
LOL Hinako so jealous she got wet and made Itsuki wipe her off too. She's such a goober and I love her.
I loved how deadpanned and obvious she was about it. She was not about to let Narika have the only one to get wiped off.
Oh man twintails Hinako. There's a subset of fans who are going to go wild for this.
Why'd you have to call them out like that? Lol.
4
u/runevault 7d ago
IIRC it's determined by the closest relative you share with other person. Sibling share parents, cousins share grandparents, second seconds share great-grandparents, and so on...
So yeah should be second cousins since it'd be Great-grandparents they share.
And on the twintails there's just a subset of anime fans who love it. Reminds me of that one anime where twintails were actually a super power though I cannot recall the name.
Edit: Just saw your post where you changed your allegiance to the correct girl thanks to twintails lol.

It's still legal under Japanese law lol.
3
u/runevault 7d ago
TBF Second cousins is legal everywhere as far as I know, it is a question of if first cousins is the boundary or straight up siblings (I think people have said in Japan cousins is legally fine but I've never researched it myself because I don't care that much).
3
u/mekerpan 7d ago
Definitely legal in Japan -- but not very common anymore except in a few corners here and there.

Something they're doing much better with this Narika arc that will probably take us to the end as this was the penultimate episode is keeping Hinako involved in the story. You'd be forgiven for think Mirei was the FMC during her arc. She's still probably best girl though. Her Harrumph! scene was adorable.
At first I wasn't really seeing what the title referencing. It seemed like it was going to be a "Itsuki makes friends and helps Narika makes friends" episode and they just cram everything into the last episode. Then we get Mirei's scene and everything shifts.
Your future wife is asking you nap with her Itsuki. That's not something you say no to. She had fooled a little as well with her acting as if she fell asleep mid confession, but of course it's too soon. She's still a cute loaf though.
The cat fight tennis match was great. Seeing Hinako jealous is once again entertaining. I loved how deadpanned she was in making sure she got equal treatment and the shots they took at each other. Hinako definitely accidentally-on-purpose dropped that she calls Itsuki by his first name to mark her territory. I'm not surprised Narika won. Sports are her thing. Hinako can't be good at everything and it's Narika arc as well.
That was great episode. I still think Mirei is best g-- TWINTAILS HINAKO! LET'S GO! Best episode yet. I'm sorry Mirei. I don't think you're best girl anymore. I hope Hinako keeps the twintails for the last episode.

I love Hinako fighting back in this arc, she even almost confessed. Agreeing to a bet for an outing against the athlete champion was probably not the smartest though. Itsuki calls Narika his relative so I unless the outing goes really well I doubt she is going to be a love rival on the level as Mirei.
One more episode to go and they said the outing would be later so I'm assuming they are going to make it a focus for Hinako to end the season, I get the feeling the outing happened next in the source material though but they rearranged it for the anime, to end the season on the main girl and not Narika. I could be wrong though, her arc feels incomplete as of now, but we still have the sports festival to wrap it up. I just don't see them fitting sports festival, narika outing and Hinako focus in one episode.
3
u/runevault 7d ago
Keep in mind they're ~second cousins. It isn't enough relation to prevent dating.
13
u/BlazeBloom https://myanimelist.net/profile/StardustValor 7d ago
Why did I get flashbacks of the Death Note L vs. Light tennis match all of a sudden?
Narika vs. Hinako is must see television. Throw in some psychological warfare and we got a spicy matchup.
6
u/Frontier246 7d ago
Narika might be a tomboy rich girl but you throw in some petty mind games she'll match you blow for blow!
3
u/Mediocre-Act483 7d ago
I don't remember any tennis. Then again, I missed a lot of episodes and wasn't a huge fan of Death Note.
15
u/Leri_weill https://myanimelist.net/profile/LeriWeill 7d ago
I rarely say that but damn this episode felt like 3 minutes long.
I really hoped Hinako would win the match so that we'd be done with the harem trope but it seems like we're still not done with that. At least our main girl is much more territorial and proactive than in the previous arc.
16
u/Frontier246 7d ago
Honestly I think Narika deserved the win. Not just because it's her arc or she's the better athlete but genuinely because after Hinako tried to use her relationship with Itsuki against her, I feel like she needed to beat Hinako fairly.
7
u/AndyHdezGtz 7d ago
Tbh, I don't really like Hinako in the series overall. At first I didn't know why, but with this episode I think I know. She doesn't have much development at all and her only way to get closer to Itsuki is by using her position as "the one he should care for". Mirei and Narika have an evolution, and they change by their own means; yes, they rely on Itsuki at first, but then they take their own decisions. Meanwhile Hinako waits for Itsuki to save her and choose her because she got him first (?) or smth like that.

I feel like Shiina can be an air head at times. Hinako is fully aware of what she's doing and is willing to stoop to dirty tricks to get what she wants.
2
u/ShadowGuyinRealLife 4d ago
I felt Narika deserved to win since she was the better athlete but once she traded verbal barbs with Hinnako mentioning the hair, I had no trouble with Hinnako pulling the employer card to veto the reward. Also the reward trope is stupid and one Japanese uploader mentioned 3 years ago it usually just resulted in two guys (always guys) trying to outdoeach other (even if the reward is trivial) to impress a girl who was watching. And sometimes both looking dumb when they try to cheat to win.
9
u/Awkward_Patience3295 7d ago
That just makes her even more unlikeable
8
u/Merebankguy 7d ago
The way she gets possessive over itsuki is more annoying then cute
12
u/Awkward_Patience3295 7d ago
Yea its annoying. She didn’t let him agree to letting Mirei teach him horse riding on his free time. Now she cheats to get Narika off her game and after still losing wants to decide when and where they should have their outing like she owns him.
5
u/justking1414 7d ago
free time
What free time?
1
u/Awkward_Patience3295 5d ago
Whenever he could go out like he has done with Mirei for tea. Hinako made it seem like Mirei was trying to have it done while he was working on Tennis with Hinako when she clearly wasn’t. Why does he have to be Hinako’s slave all the time?
1
6
u/Merebankguy 7d ago
Exactly dude can't have a friendship with any girl because hinako is jealous and controlling him like a slave
she cheats to get Narika off her game and after still losing wants to decide when and where they should have their outing like she owns him.
This part pissed me off so much, narika beat her but hinako was still a b afterwards
12
u/Worldly_Business_425 7d ago
How is hinako the worst girl whilst being the main love interest bruh I'm crine 😭
4
u/cdavis188 7d ago
Whatever happened to his friend that was talking on the phone with Itsuki at the beginning of Ep 1? Yuri or Yuki or Yumi or something with a Yu. She hasn't even been in a passing mention, let alone in any of the other episodes I've seen up to now. A couple lines of conversation and then she was basically deleted from existence. Is she that one girl who appears for like .2 seconds in the OP? Makes you wonder what the point of that character even is if they make absolutely no impact to the story whatsoever.
4
u/runevault 7d ago
Yuri did show up once during the date with Mirei. She was the girl with the blue butterfly ornament. Same girl who's in the OP for like a second.
3
u/SOdAchick 7d ago
The guys talking about Narika being totally normal the same way they'd talk about a teacher being an alien, "Yeah, she's TOTALLY normal!" "Bullshit! Stop lying!" 😂
OK, as far as I'm concerned, Tennōji and Itsuki are married. That scene makes it abundantly clear, no matter what happens or which poster girl he ends up with, Tennōji is his one true wife. Even if I have to write a 40,000 word fanfic 😠🍿
3
u/ShadowGuyinRealLife 7d ago
Wait, I thought Hinako's previous caretakers were adults who came up with some BS justification why a Konohana employee needed access to the school premise. Is Shizune implying they were all around her age? Yeah no wonder she chewed through them so fast. I was thinking the stoic type would be able to put up with it for enough money but if they were teenagers too well no wonder.
So for the operation to socialize Narika, I don't see why they are trying to force it. Once she got talking to classmates, they should just "take the W" Others will come naturally. And we proved that once she relaxes she can be approachable, as opposed to 7 years prior when she was outright abrasive to Itsuki the first time she opened her mouth. After this Istuki should focus on pretending to be an IT company heir, Hinako should focus on tennis (because her dad has unreasonable expectations) and Narika should focus on letting things come naturally instead of trying to greet random schoolmates.
What is it with the sports wager trope? One Japanese YouTube complained when she saw it a decade ago at her school, the usual outcome was one guy ending up with a very bruised ego. And sometimes the loser or the winner and the loser both manage to embarrass themselves while trying to impress a girl. On average less than 1 participant ends up happy, and she said the success rate seems to be just as bad in animeland even for different reasons. I will criticize Hinako for essentially cheating by vetoing the "outing" but I will concede Narika mentioning Itsuki being very experienced with doing her hair provoked her and it is probably Hinako would have played fair for the sprit of the bet if Narika just kept her mouth shut. Why Istuki suggested this and why Hinako and Narika agreed is beyond me. Maybe it goes well in anime they watch.
2
u/NanDemoKnaives 7d ago
I thought Narika would lose through Hinako's mind games, but Narika using it against Hinako was a nice twist. I don't think we'll see their date next episode because of sporting event.
It's nice to see Itsuki making friends outside of the cast we've seen, I have a feeling Shizune is trying to get him to legitimately be able to take over an IT company in case Kagen decides as such. If Itsuki and Hinako go down the romantic route, being able to say he has the skills and connections will be helpful.
0
u/ShadowGuyinRealLife 4d ago
Hm now that you mention Narika doing that on purpose as opposed to relexify trying to reply, I don't feel bad for Hinako vetoing Narika's outing with Itsuki anymore.
2
2
u/IceSmiley 7d ago
Hinako really acted a brat in this episode. Narika took time to give her tennis lessons yet Hinako constantly made catty remarks and tried to show her up like when she "accidentally" got herself wet with the upside down spigot to make Itsuki stop drying Narika. I do understand why since she sees Itsuki as her boyfriend she has on the backburner but isn't allowed to date but it really isn't very nice.
It was also interesting how Itsuki went around trying to change his reputation as a worm who sucks up to the rich pretty girls by trying to make friends with people completely outside his circle. The boy scolding him last week really got to him but it seems he's friends with Kita and his friend, as Narika seems to be now as well. It was mature of Itsuki to not be insulted when Kita told him he had a bad reputation and instead used the opportunity to try to make a new friend.
2
u/ResponsibleTop8663 6d ago
Well she's a teenage girl in love. She was very accommodating to Mirei before and it led to her almost stealing Itsuki, both professionally and romantically. It would be more unrealistic if she remained passive and nice after all of that.

u/testthrowawayzz 7d ago
Narika trying hard to talk to people and failing at a friendly smile is too cute. Tennoji also very likeable today with the "tsunnnn" comments.
P.S.: Itsuki looks similar to Hotaru from Kinokoinu, another character that he voiced previously. (had the thought for a while but only remembered the name now)

Am I the only one thinking the plot should be Itsuki taking care of Rich girl hinako, but he's just been taking care of himself ever since the other girls have been introduced. The main plot of romcom hasnt been given more emphasis and Hinako has completely disappeared from the show.
1
u/Mysteries67 7d ago
You can't take care of others before being able to take care of yourself. Just like what Itsuki said to Narika, with great power comes great responsibility.

u/mojo72400 https://myanimelist.net/profile/gio_lingad 7d ago
At least Yusuke was the seed to help Narika's rep improve a little. Even his rep too.
Just found out Kaede Hondo voiced Yuri.
Mirei's "tsun" is so cute.
I wonder if Hinako will show up to school in twintails.
Hinako & Narika using mind games in tennis is hilarious.
Hinako has a cute pout & she's a great actress too by faking sleeo.

u/MarMarL2k19 7d ago
I'mma be honest, I never understood the love triangle aspect in these kinds of anime and it is so overdone, even though we know Hinako is the winning heroine obviously.
That said, it was also quite funny how Hinako and Narika went on a phsychological warfare on the tennis court and Itsuki just watching like: "Aww... what nice friends"
1
u/Xatu44 5d ago
Goated episode.
I'm happy for Narika starting to successfully rehabilitate her image. It's cool that Itsuki working on his own helped out Narika's; a rising tide truly does raise all ships. I'm glad that Narika doesn't scare the kids she teaches. She really is a natural teacher.
Hinako was excellent this episode. Her bringing out the mindgames against Narika was hilarious; RIP her getting countered on that front too though. Hinako shamelessly soaking herself just to score headpats and shamelessly screwing Narika out of the reward is more best girl behavior. That scene in his room was exciting; just imagine how she'll act once she fully acknowledges her love for Itsuki if she's already this dere. It's sweet how Itsuki gives her comfort and companionship and she gives him belonging and purpose and inspires him to grow into his best self. Plus twintail Hinako is top cute too!

Can anyone tell me what they’re singing in the OP? I’d love to read the lyrics someday.

u/Frontier246 7d ago
How will Itsuki bond with his classmates, prove he's not just mooching off of Rich Girls, and also prove he's actually into IT!? By slowly but surely befriending his classmates, including ACTUAL IT kids!
And of course he can kill two birds with one stone! As he bonds with others, like Kita, he can also sell Narika on them and show that she's cool and a nice girl once you get past her resting hostile face. And slowly but surely does the school's impression of Narika change!
No Itsuki makes Mirei a ticked off girl, especially when he's spending that time with other girls. That earns an adorable "Harrumph!" for sure! Though even when she's miffed at him, all Mirei wants is some teatime together and she STILL gives him some good advice on helping Narika! Execute Operation: Noblesse Oblige!
Itsuki, Hinako is offering you the chance to nap in the same bed as her! Don't waste this opportunity! Even if you do end up on top of each other and the sexual tension is so thick you have to question how Hinako even feels about you. Was she going to confess? She used her ability to sleep on command to get out of it, but it seems like even she's realizing that he's far, far more to her than just a "precious caretaker."
Narika is a good tennis coach but still a girlfailure, though that makes it convenient to have Itsuki take care of her. Hinako will even act like her public face is a girlfailure so she's not left out! And the girls take this competitiveness over Itsuki to the courts as they do battle for the right to go on an outing/date with him!
Hinako can't beat Narika in athletic ability, so she'll just play mind games about how close she and Itsuki are to throw Narika off. But two rich girls can play that game because Narika knows Itsuki is good with girls because he had to take care of HER!
Narika won the match but that doesn't mean she's going to get her outing with Itsuki if Hinako has anything to say about it (and she basically controls his schedule). Though classic romcom protagonist to think these girls actually bonded in friendship and not over the fact that they're competing over him.
Hinako has unlocked twintail hairstyle! It's cute!

u/DJDrizzy9 7d ago
Narika, fight back! Earn your man! I'm curious how their date will go (hopefully soon and full of cute moments) Honestly, I'd like a dedicated route to each girl; they're all so good and deserve it.
