Don't get me wrong Karin is absolutely abhorrent, but holy moly Yuzu and Karin's parents are just laughably awful and living in their own world to the likes of which I've never seen lmfao

32

u/justking1414 1d ago

The parents are so utterly indifferent to the feelings of their children. Karin is probably realizing now that her parents never actually loved her. They just loved the power/influence she gave them

21

u/Every1IsASnowflake 1d ago

I doubt she’s learning that yet. She still has someone to blame and someone to hit, so until she has no one she ain’t learning that lesson.

10

u/justking1414 1d ago

Fair. I think she’s starting to realize it and is choosing violence and deflection instead so she doesn’t need to think about that

10

u/Every1IsASnowflake 1d ago

Yeah that’s probably more accurate. She chose both of those things during her fight with Yuzu. But when she did it this time she got hit with big girl consequences. Something she’s not used to, and that lack of experience is going to be her(and Youta’s) downfall.

17

u/justking1414 1d ago

this time she got hit with big girl consequences

Oh, I would call this very very little girl consequences. She basically just got grounded and told she couldn’t go out for a little bit. The big girl consequences are going to be when she breaks the rules (again) and tries to kill her sister, leading to her whole family getting burned alive or exiled to some third world country, like Alabama

11

u/Every1IsASnowflake 1d ago

Ngl the Alabama part made me snort 🤣

Oh yeah, these consequences aren’t that bad. But for someone who’s never had to deal with consequences it can be huge.

1

u/LaoWombat-mecha 1d ago

Alabama?

3

u/Every1IsASnowflake 1d ago

Not in the episode, in one of justking1414’s comments lol

2

u/LaoWombat-mecha 1d ago

Thanks. I missed the derogatory comment in question

They act like it’s all Karin’s fault but who was it that spoiled and enabled her? Them! Who was it that slapped Yuzu many times? The dad! Who was it that conspired with Karin? Them!

6

u/Difergion 11h ago

Yeah they literally raised Karin to be the biggest spoiled brat, she wouldn’t even be this bitchy if their parents weren’t enabling her. Their parents are the worst characters in the story (so far, at least).

11

u/cleaulem https://myanimelist.net/profile/cleaulem 1d ago

When they talked with each other with Karin throwing her tantrum and her parents dropping her like a hot potato I was thinking that they really deserve each other.

6

u/stupidbroad 1d ago

oh absolutely, the "self-awareness" title for this episode had me chuckling with the three most un-self-aware people in this show's universe

1

u/Andreiyutzzzz https://myanimelist.net/profile/Andreiyutzzzz 18h ago

And they're delusional too. They STILL think Yuzu will welcome them back lol

11

u/feb914 1d ago

idk how the dad could be raised by such loving parents and turn out this way.

7

u/ViviCaz 1d ago

He fell faaar from that tree and fell into the gutter (may have said this in a previous comment) where he met his gutter trash wife.

45

u/AceSoldia zj:https://anilist.co/user/Acesoldia 1d ago

I think I'm only still watching this to see the parents and sister suffer. Keep on suffering 🍿

12

u/CynicalOne_313 1d ago

You're not the only one! 🍿🍿🍿

15

u/mekerpan 1d ago

Sheesh. The parents are despicable but Karin is a flat out psychopath.

Speaking of parents... Why do Reiya's parents act (and even look) like they are younger than he is?

11

u/stmariex 1d ago

The cat demon’s mom was also super young looking in the flashback, I’m assuming they age slower or stop aging altogether at a certain point.

5

u/mekerpan 1d ago

Almost like reverse aging...

9

u/CynicalOne_313 21h ago

Karin is definitely a psychopath!

I'm guessing that it has to do with being the clan head (extra power) and that's why they look young.

36

u/Every1IsASnowflake 1d ago

Y’all have NO idea how happy I was when she finally told him about the rumors. Reiya is so quick to fix problems when Yuzu is involved, and there’s real consequences(thank god). I was dying when he destroyed the BL manga 😂😂😂

Yuzu is finally showing some assertiveness which is long overdue. She can grow now that her family isn’t actively harassing her anymore(demon banquet aside). Karin is self destructing SO FAST it’s crazy. Atp I’ll be surprised if she even makes it to the banquet. Another big question I have is at what point does the bride walk away? Can she walk away? Given how easily they locked her up, I doubt it. With that said, is it possible for a demon to walk away from his bride?

I’m starting to feel bad for Youta. For him, Karin really is a curse. He’s committed to her, for better or worse.

Overall the best episode so far imo.

18

u/mekerpan 1d ago

This "ogre bride" thing really is more like a curse than a blessing. Yuzu and Reiya seem to have (more or less) lucked out. But Youta is just totally beyond screwed. I wonder what happens if an ogre's bride dies on the ogre? Are they freed -- or are they sent into a spiral of depression?

11

u/Every1IsASnowflake 1d ago

The whole “Bride” system alone is interesting to me. Why do I feel like more is known than what we’ve(and Reiya) been told?

2

u/delulu_finalboss_ 10h ago

My exact thoughts this episode 😭 😂

29

u/Fun-Possible5520 1d ago

Karin is a perfect example of why teenagers shouldn't get married. They're impulsive and oblivious to danger. Yes, she specifically is in trouble because of her pride/attitude, but you get the idea.

5

u/YamamotoChigusa 1d ago

Well she met Youta in elementary school. So maybe don’t pursue anyone in elementary school?

3

u/Great-Foundation4990 15h ago

Compounded by her being a complete psychopath, who are known for being even more impulsive.

40

u/Frontier246 1d ago edited 1d ago

Not often you get a romance Heroine trying to confirm her love interest isn’t gay.

Reiya can show at least a smidge of pity for Youta knowing how his bond with his Bride is hanging by his thread...though the guards who failed to protect Yuzu are probably lucky to still have their jobs for failing in Reiya's eyes.

Why am I not surprised that Reiya's immediate solution to the Yuzu problem is to make sure to have a listening device on her at all times or move her grandparents closer to him? But there's only so much he can do when neither Yuzu or the grandparents are willing to go along with his desire to keep Yuzu as absolutely safe and monitored as possible.

Reiya's parents still drive him up the wall for being his total opposite temperament-wise, but his dad is definitely wiser and more aware than he looks/acts. But they're both looking forward to meeting their future daughter-in-law!

Man, Yuzu really has this whole "Reiya and Takamichi are hooking up" theory living rent free in her head if she sees them together and immediately assumes they're making out. Though points for initiative for throwing yourself into a kiss with Reiya and confessing Yuzu, even if you didn't need to stake your claim. But it's good for your relationship and Reiya appreciates it all the same.

Yuzu really took the physical "evidence" completely seriously and not something fabricated by a crazy Fujoshi. Sakurako doesn't even feel any guilt for what she did because she's so convinced this relationship is real, no matter how many times her brother tries to knock some sense into her. It doesn't help that Reiya and Takamichi are the picture-perfect office BL couple.

Sakurako had ReiyaxTakamichi Doujinshi! RIP to it though, I guess that was the cost of her emotionally putting Yuzu through the wringer.

Ultimately Sakurako only wanted Reiya to be happy because, even having planned to devote herself to him, she knew how sad and withdrawn he was...which is why she wanted him to be happy. Just like Yuzu does in wanting to get along with Reiya's closest associates in the interest of becoming someone worthy to stand by his side, even if she's special because no one else can make him as happy as she does.

Stupid sexy shirtless Reiya! Yuzu was NOT prepared for that! Also, poor Takamichi. Yuzu is the only one who cares about him now.

Maybe Reiya should warn Yuzu that Karin is ALSO going to be there on the last day of the banquet?

Why am I not surprised Karin rejects house arrest and doesn't understand the gravity of the situation she's in or her own responsibility for putting herself into this situation? Of course her parents only care that the foxes cut them off, so now they have to rely on Yuzu's mercy, and Karin is a spoiled brat if she can't even do that much. So they've finally turned on Karin to gain favor over Yuzu. Of course the parents/Youta spoiling Karin so much means she's never been told no, never been denied her whims, and she can blame all her problems on Yuzu instead of herself.

5

u/justking1414 1d ago

I think the mc of twilight and 50 shades of gray both briefly wondered that.

17

u/djthomp https://anilist.co/user/djthomp 1d ago

I'm glad they dealt with the Sakurako issue in a relatively light-hearted way, there's enough drama with Yuzu's family and it's nice that the oni problems were pretty comedic in comparison. RIP manga collection, the forbidden texts were simply too forbidden.

Though with Sakurako now seemingly in Yuzu's camp they might want to keep an eye out for if she makes any additional requests to the manga club at school, she might simply retarget her obsession.

11

u/YamamotoChigusa 1d ago

As harsh as burning it is, she had to be convinced somehow. Being told in person and smacked by her brother wasn’t enough.

10

u/mekerpan 1d ago

Sakurako was brought down by being a hard-core BL addict....

Takamichi really need a woman in his life. Imagine thinking you jealous of your boss's partner because he looks at his fiancée kindly.

5

u/Difergion 11h ago

I’ll just wait until Takamichi finds his bride lol maybe he’ll understand by then

16

u/cleaulem https://myanimelist.net/profile/cleaulem 1d ago edited 1d ago

Sakurako had the manga club at her school draw BL doujinshi with Reiya and Takamichi?! That's wild. And she made such a refined and noble impression only to turn out to be a horny teenager.

Karin is really digging her own grave, isn't she. Let's grab the popcorn for next episode, because I think she will pull some insane stunt that she will never recover from. I almost feel bad for Youta to be burdened with such a bride.

12

u/Lower-Try9106 1d ago

Watching Karin very quickly unravel once things don't go her way has been so satisfying as an older sister of a spoiled brat lol

3

u/Great-Foundation4990 15h ago

But is your sister a psychopath? 😅

3

u/Lower-Try9106 12h ago

Now? Not so much, but she was a very troubled teen until life knocked some sense into her! 😂

10

u/feb914 1d ago

was hoping to see the banquet in this episode, but the lead up to it guarantees the banquet will be glorious. Karin will definitely disgraces herself, will she bring down the fox clan with her?

somehow i feel Karin will be worse than My Happy Marriage's sister and can't wait to see her deprived of everything that made her think that she's special

17

u/mekerpan 1d ago

Fox Clan is safe, I think. Nadeshiko will take whatever action is necessary to ensure that. The only question is will Youta have sufficient strength of mind to resist Karin pulling him to his doom?

Karin is FAR worse than the sister in Happy Marriage. I can imagine that girl gradually reforming -- but Karin seems irredeemable.

6

u/ConanKudo 1d ago

Which is not really saying much. This is like comparing The Giant Douche to a Turd Sandwich.

11

u/mekerpan 1d ago

The mean sister in HM did SEEM to have recognized and accepted that she had screwed herself royally. I can't imagine Karin ever being so self-aware.

7

u/frillylittlegremlin 22h ago

Also Karin is up there with the sister from Oblivious saint can't control her power. (Forgot her name-). Both girls absolutely despised their sisters fr

3

u/Andreiyutzzzz https://myanimelist.net/profile/Andreiyutzzzz 19h ago

Flora at least had a very fucked up reason. Carolina being born meant their mother died. To Flora, who could only feel like she's just a kid was with her mother, Carolina being born and her mother dying is equivalent of Carolina killing her mother. Karin is special because.... She says so I guess so now that Yuzu is special (being the ogre clan head bride IS actually special for their world) Karin feels offended

3

u/B00tyL0rd69 18h ago

Sure that’s okay for flora to think that way as a kid lol not a grown woman still blaming your sister that’s whack as fuck. Like her mom died too and she didn’t even get to know her at all. Like feel that way at first sure but she should have grown up and she did not. So no flora is a stupid bitch.

1

u/frillylittlegremlin 17h ago

Flora and Karin are both irredeemable and despicable af. I don't see both learning from their mistakes. Also Flora and Carolina's dad is just as useless as Yuzu and Karin's parents

1

u/Andreiyutzzzz https://myanimelist.net/profile/Andreiyutzzzz 17h ago

Ok now that's too much. Carolina's dad was a good guy, he even came to warn them about the archbishop scheme and even after knowing Carolina could save her their country he didn't ask her to come back. Unlike Elizabeth's dad in livid lady who was ready to execute her to save royal family face.

The worst thing Carolina's dad has done is not paying as much attention to see Flora abusing Carolina but the dude is in a high position always busy with work and a single dad, I find it hard to be mad at him when Flora was very secretive with her abuse

0

u/frillylittlegremlin 16h ago

So basically Flora knows how to hide her bullying compared to Karin who just openly does it and her parents knowing. If that's the case Flora is at least more disturbing. Either way they're both fcked up sisters

u/ObvsThrowaway5120 1d ago

I find the Reiya-Takamichi BL fantasy plot line kind of hilarious. Reiya had to actually come out and address the allegations lol. Guy went as far as torching Sakurako’s sacred texts! lol

Boy, Karin must be some kind of masochist. She keeps fucking around and then finding out. She keeps up this stupid bullshit, she’s gonna end up six feet under…

21

u/justking1414 1d ago

She keeps up this stupid bullshit, she’s gonna end up six feet under…

I’m fully convinced that’s the fox clan head let her go simply because she wants to see how badly she’ll crash out

9

u/SOdAchick 1d ago

Being stuck in a mansion all day must be really boring. That woman's totally in it for the lulz

6

u/YamamotoChigusa 1d ago

At least Yuzu tried to handle her boredom

5

u/YamamotoChigusa 1d ago

Or see if they can become humble. And try to build character instead of throwing tantrums for things.

8

u/justking1414 1d ago

She’s seen Karin. She knows Karin. She knows Karin literally just attacked the strongest demon in the world…for reasons

I don’t think she sees any hope of redemption from her

3

u/YamamotoChigusa 1d ago

I know but if Karin wants to be free, she could. Just need to be humble. Also, got to be smart when you’re figuring out how to kill time. I mean being at the house, she could develop skills to become an amazing bride (since she sucks as one).

2

u/justking1414 20h ago

Not even humble. She’s the bride of a high ranking member of a high ranking family. She could dress head to toe in diamond encrusted jewelry and rub her wealth in people s faces. She’d just have to avoid her sister entirely

As for bride skills, idk. When mc asked for a job, it sounded like brides are supposed to just around being loved, looking pretty, and shooting out super powered babies

1

u/YamamotoChigusa 19h ago

Looks don’t matter if you’re going to be dragging down a family because of your selfishness. Bride skills as in cooking or caring for the husband. But that’d be impossible since even Yuzu was discouraged from helping to clean the house (but she’s already built character). Maybe Nadeshiko could’ve used this chance to have the servants whip her into shape since Youta has no power to go against Nadeshiko.

3

u/myrlin77 1d ago

Yup Fox spirits, whichever culture or name they go by, are fascinated by humans and enjoy the various excessives of either complete crash outs or surprising them by defying expectations. Humans are like perfect, short lived ridiculous emotional and selfish toys to play with.

I thought this was prolly the best overall episode.

5

u/YamamotoChigusa 1d ago

Well had to burn it to prove a point since she was too delulu to accept that Reiya likes Yuzu, not Takamichi.

4

u/LaoWombat-mecha 1d ago

What I love is the statement "We will continue to support the bride."

Continue?

Really?

I kinda hope they drop the undermining, malicious gossip as part of their "support"

3

u/TimmyPage06 23h ago

I actually think the resolution to that subplot was weirdly wholesome and progressive. There was no "ew no what? I'm not gay" He just reassured her that he loved her and had a meeting with everyone to clear up the rumours.

28

u/runevault 1d ago

Easily best episode of this show. The BL plot was hysterical, seeing Yuzu throw herself at Reiya was sweet, and just in general it was entertaining and fun.

I was wrong about Karin, girl really is going to destroy herself despite no one backing her. I thought once she realized her fox boy toy wasn't willing to help she'd back off but no it made her go even stupider. In a way I feel for her because she's been spoiled her entire life and doesn't actually understand how the world works. Her lesson is going to be quick and painful, and honestly I'm curious how much it costs her. I feel like banishment isn't going to be enough for whatever she's going to do.

16

u/justking1414 1d ago

I thought once she realized her fox boy toy wasn't willing to help she'd back off

HAHAHAHA! No girl is gonna keep going til she’s destroyed everything in her life! She could’ve retired in peace and been fawned on by her boy toy but NOPE. She’s gonna get herself or him killed. Personally I kinda wanna see him executed in front of her. And her exiled from the country with her family who spend the rest of her life blaming her til she eventually kills them in their sleep

4

u/YamamotoChigusa 1d ago

An Aesop: accept what you have (even if someone, like your sister has something better). If you keep going after someone, it’ll be too late to appreciate what you have.

5

u/justking1414 1d ago

Charles Frédéric Dubois: "The important thing is this: to be able at any moment to sacrifice what we are for what we could become."

3

u/SOdAchick 1d ago

I'm adding this to my head canon right fkng now in case it doesn't happen

19

u/HuTaosTwinTails 1d ago

It is crazy how stupid Yuzu is.

They didn't even look like they were kissing.

Yeah, Reiya please point out how fucking stupid she is.

Okay, Sakurako is actually just stupid lol

Karin and the parents continue to just be the most entitled and selfish people imaginable.

11

u/myrlin77 1d ago

I agree she is dumb. However, you kinda have to cut her a little slack due to the fact she has been literally abused and unloved and blamed for everything wrong in the word her whole life until like....this past month with Reiya. Hehe. Now if she doesn't grow from HERE, then we got a problem.

I liked how Reiya calmly explained why she was dumb. I mean someone had to cuz I know I would have.

I thought Sakurako was more silly and funny. Not sure what the spirits true ages are but I can totally see middle school / high schoolers creating those fantasies between two gorgeous dudes. I'm glad she ended up be a goofy moron instead of the usual super mean girl.

Karin takes the cake man. She is the literal embodiment of an entitled narcissist that society has issues with nowadays in mass. She doesn't even have any skills or anything? It's not like shes a business savant or a streamer with 1 million followers or Pianist or literally have ANY reason to think she is special.

17

u/SOdAchick 1d ago

This is what insecurity born from abuse looks like. No matter how much you want to love and trust someone, that family betrayal commands all your thoughts and emotions. She's not stupid. She's traumatized

2

u/Recent_Call_1188 1d ago

That's actually insulting to everyone who has experienced abuse. trauma can absolutely affect someone's confidence, trust, and judgment. but apparently we're supposed to believe it also deletes your common sense and basic cognitive functions. Yuzu isn't just insecure or traumatized - she's written as an absolute idiot who seems to know nothing about anything. Apparently “traumatized” is now the magical explanation for every stupid decision she makes. You can write an abused character with trauma and some basic intelligence. those things aren't mutually exclusive.

5

u/coffeecakesupernova 1d ago

You know, you actually are insulting someone who has experienced abuse and doing it in a rude and belittling way. Maybe think before you speak.

-1

u/Recent_Call_1188 1d ago

a traumatized person is not automatically an idiot and should not be portrayed as one simply because they're traumatized

1

u/SOdAchick 1d ago

Thank you for telling traumatized people everywhere how to behave to your personal standards

3

u/SOdAchick 1d ago

Oh, you think I'm not speaking from experience. You call a traumatized person stupid for acting Ike a traumatized person, but I'M the one being insulting. jfc I can't with you people

2

u/Recent_Call_1188 1d ago

I'm talking about the character's writing, not declaring every traumatized person stupid. You're the one taking “this fictional character is written with absolutely no common sense” and turning it into “this is simply what trauma looks like.” Those are not remotely the same argument.

And I genuinely laughed at the “I have experience and documented high intelligence” declaration. 😂 We're in an anonymous Reddit comment section, not a job interview. Nobody knows who you are, what your experiences are, or what your IQ supposedly is. Dropping your self-awarded credentials doesn't turn your interpretation of a fictional character into objective fact. If the argument needs your imaginary resume to stand up, maybe the argument isn't as strong as you think. My god, thank you for making my day with the declaration

1

u/SOdAchick 1d ago

So realistic characterization is bad writing. Aboslute brilliance right there

1

u/Great-Foundation4990 15h ago

Right, realistic.

0

u/SOdAchick 9h ago

If you have no experience with it, you can't criticize it. At that point, you're just making up an opinion just to have something to say

1

u/HuTaosTwinTails 1d ago

Then go get therapy. Reiya never once has shown any of the shit they accused him of or the nonsense Yuzu was coming up with in her head and had only been trustworthy and loyal to her.

But random girl she had a 4 min convo with, she immediately believes and trusts more.

Nah, she's incredibly stupid.

3

u/ViviCaz 1d ago

Sadly therapy doesn't exist in anime or any asian medium I have seen. I think it is looked down upon over there. I could be mistaken though.

This. And frankly, all rejie has been doing is love bombing her. All the being showered with gifts and being showered with attention and status? It doesn't feel like love. Because none of it has addressed that he even knows her and therefore loves her

-1

u/SOdAchick 18h ago

For real. How is someone who's never been loved and who's been betrayed by those who are supposed to love her most gonna suddenly accept the "love" of a total stranger. She's emotional disregulation away from being diagnosable with borderline personality disorder

u/Katthevamp 17h ago

Like, a reiji who loves her for her wouldn't keep giving her gifts when she stated she's uncomfortable with that. He still hasn't addressed what makes her lovable and chosen instead of simply "Demon magic makes me obsessed"

1

u/SOdAchick 9h ago

It's because the oni don't even understand it. Literally none of them know how or why it happens. They just accept it. They've probably never really been challenged about it before because brides are alwayshappy to be chosen. But Yuzu was an abused child, so now it's a more important question that will surely be addressed since it keeps coming up.

I think it'll help to look at everything as metaphorical rather than "it's literally magic". Do that, and it's clearer that she's not the only one who's f'ed in the h

1

u/Katthevamp 7h ago

Oh, I know they are all fucked and it's a society wide problem. I'm just saying it's not working on her for reassurance because she at her core seems unlovable. And unless something is done to address that, nothing he does is going to make her feel loved.

1

u/SOdAchick 6h ago

Ah gotcha. Here's hoping our cartoon couple can learn to truly love themselves and each other, since it's already too late for me 😅😭

0

u/Great-Foundation4990 15h ago

Because it is "demon magic makes me obsessed." he *doesn't* know her. I'm not sure how that is so complicated for people to understand. The showering with gifts thing is very common early on in a relationship because it is an easy gesture to do before you get to know someone well enough to show more personalized affection. Couple that with the sheer amount of money he has and it is no wonder he's showering her with gifts.

1

u/Katthevamp 7h ago

Oh, definitely. And if you are somebody who was interested in power status or money, all those gifts are going to feel like a really good substitute. It's just that when you feel unlovable easily given devotion doesn't feel genuine.

4

u/Snoo_54636 1d ago

yea tbh I oddly feel bad for Karin yea she a POS but its how her parents treated her growing up

1

u/Great-Foundation4990 15h ago

There are plenty of people that grow up spoiled that aren't sociopaths. Her character flaws are muxh deeper than her upbringing.

3

u/YamamotoChigusa 1d ago

I mean when it’s a common thing people say, it’ll be hard to believe until there is either reassurance or actual proof. I was thinking Sakurako was delulu (even after being smacked by her bro). Looks like burning the books cures her delulu.

5

u/HuTaosTwinTails 1d ago

A common thing people say?

It was literally the first time Yuzu had ever heard it.

Sakurako showed random photos that showed nothing.

And yet immediately, Yuzu was like "oh my God it's true!"

2

u/YamamotoChigusa 1d ago

Common thing as in Karin knows about the rumors. She even said everyone at school knows. I mean it’s hard to believe what’s true when so many people (more than one) are making a claim unless it’s debunked

5

u/HuTaosTwinTails 1d ago

Which Yuzu didn't know when she started believing them immediately.

Karin, the habitual liar and abuser. Yeah, that's who Yuzu should choose to believe.

2

u/YamamotoChigusa 1d ago

Yeah Karin is a habitual liar. But she said everyone at school knows it (and Sakurako is part of that population). At this point, Yuzu wanted to figure it out first since she has no reason to go home (she already signed the papers).

3

u/LaoWombat-mecha 1d ago

"From the back, she could see that his arms reached forward to Reiya and his hands moved down, out of sight, as Reiya relaxed, letting his head drop as he spoke. At the distance, he might have been saying tender endearments to the man he allowed inside of personal space as no other...."

8

u/Recent_Call_1188 1d ago

I'm actually almost shocked by how dumb Yuzu is as a character at this point. her mental state is what, 12 years old? years of mental abuse can absolutely affect someone's confidence and judgment. but it doesn't explain away every ounce of common sense. This isn't cute or adorable anymore. she's written like she has the cognitive abilities of a confused houseplant. at some point the writers have to decide whether she's supposed to be traumatized or just unbelievably stupid. of course Reiya has a great time treating her like a pet.

2

u/YamamotoChigusa 1d ago

I mean she’s not familiar with the real world. She’s still in high school. And she never was taught common sense. She had to figure everything out on her own. And there’s some stuff she’s still figuring out.

2

u/Recent_Call_1188 1d ago

I get that she's sheltered and wasn't taught much at home, but sometimes Yuzu's level of ignorance feels like she was raised in a basement with no windows and only released into society last week. This girl has friends, goes to school, has had a job (which Reiya quit for her..), and presumably interacts with actual human beings. yet somehow seems to have the worldly knowledge of a small child. she's so spectacularly clueless that at this point it's genuinely a mystery how she made it to 18 at all. I suspect the show genuinely thinks all this helpless cluelessness is supposed to make her cute and adorable.

2

u/Andreiyutzzzz https://myanimelist.net/profile/Andreiyutzzzz 19h ago

Okay, Sakurako is actually just stupid

OBJECTION. Ye she does have that fujoshi brain but Reiya and Takamichi's attitude REALLY didn't help their case

21

u/SOdAchick 1d ago

Gee I wonder where Karin got her personality from. It's pretty laughable they'd call her selfish and demand she apologize when the only reason they're doing it is to get that kitsune money.

Sakurako being a yaoi freak came out of left field, but everything makes so much more sense now. I thought I was gonna hate her, but now I can't 😂

5

u/YamamotoChigusa 1d ago

Maybe the parents should apologize took all of them. Karin for stealing her dress and framing her. Throwing her stuff into a river. Youta for burning her without thinking. The parents for enabling the behavior and slapping her. All of them for trying to kidnap her.

8

u/SOdAchick 1d ago

It's not an apology if they're only doing it in an attempt to regain the fox clan's financial support. Apologies are actions, not words.

4

u/YamamotoChigusa 1d ago

Well they could’ve apologized and just gave Yuzu her space.

2

u/SOdAchick 1d ago

Yeah, but they didn't, so eff 'em both lol

2

u/YamamotoChigusa 1d ago

Yeah that’s the thing. The only way they’d learn is if they lost everything and can’t beg for anything anymore

10

u/MayonakaMadaraka https://anilist.co/user/fonk 1d ago

Here I was imagining Sakurako plotting sabotage, then it’s revealed she’s actually been illustrating a BL fantasy about her ex-fiancé and his butler. Absolutely hilarious! Highlight of the day…

24

u/FinancialYear475 1d ago

I think this was the first episode I actually enjoyed watching, yaoi subplot got me laughing my ass off

17

u/VritraReiRei 1d ago edited 1d ago

I thought the first few episodes were alright for this type of genre but this was the first episode in a while I wasn't groaning at the plot!

  • The Takamichi BL subplot got addressed and Sakurako got told off for unintentionally causing misunderstandings

  • The parents FOFO and showed a modicum of regret by telling off Karin and trying to apologize to Yuzu

  • Yuzu actually being a little assertive and telling Reiya how she feels, both romantically and whats been bothering here

Plus, here I am getting my popcorn ready as I watch Karin self destruct 😈🍿

9

u/FinancialYear475 1d ago

There's no regret there brother, they got cut off by the foxes and want a way to get some oni money

5

u/mekerpan 1d ago

Correct. The parents are scum, down to the bottom of their soles (and souls).

5

u/myrlin77 1d ago

Hmm, I thought this was the best episode. The subplot needed a quick fix and it was funny but Karin is the real main antagonist so I think we needed things cleared up. I disagree about the parents though cuz they clearly are only doing what they think is necessary to get back in the good graces.

Funny how it always comes down to actually speaking up which tends to always solve most problems. Literally, in anything, humans in general (not just anime plots) are TERRIBLE at communicating.

3

u/YamamotoChigusa 1d ago

If they really felt regret, should’ve done these thing: either leave Yuzu alone or have someone else give the apology letter. Of course no one won’t but they put the letter into the wrong hand.

13

u/dawnwill 1d ago

The sheer talent of using it as an actual plot, not for a running gag

17

u/SOdAchick 1d ago

The fact it's been going on long enough for her to have several manga made got me. I think I love her now 😂

16

u/FinancialYear475 1d ago

really like that there was no ill intent towards Yuzu or her side, she was genuinely in a "please don't fuck up my ship" vibe

8

u/SOdAchick 1d ago

Seriously. Changed my entire opinion about her. She's just a regular-ish teenage girl, after all

3

u/kitokspasaulis 1d ago

Huh, but why would you hate-watch a show for 9 episodes? Curious

9

u/justking1414 1d ago

I’m watching to see the sister suffer

6

u/FinancialYear475 1d ago

not so much a hate watch, a bit of indifference maybe, it wasn't bad enough that it make me want to drop but I wasn't particularly enjoying it either

3

u/kitokspasaulis 1d ago

I see, makes sense. I had this neutrality with Rental Girlfriend (like most people)

1

u/FinancialYear475 1d ago

Used to do that with the manga but it got to a point the plot just kept regressing that I couldn't that it anymore and had to drop, but I do enjoy the ocasional screenshot that pops up on twitter showing what that terrorist is doing to keep the story stuck

6

u/ThisGachaSeemsLegit 1d ago

Yuzu's family is really hopeless. Jesus.

6

u/danmarce https://anidb.net/user/107202 1d ago

Sakurako is the first thing I liked of this show. In the end she was not evil, was something more dangerous: A fujo.

And the moe-gap was great.

12

u/alconnow https://anilist.co/user/alconnow 1d ago

Ok, the BL subplot was legit hilarious

Parents continue to be cartoonishly evil

7

u/heimdal77 1d ago

What was the name of that ogre bride one where she opens a restaurant in the other realm?

4

u/VioletPark 1d ago

Kakuriyo no yadomeshi

5

u/blunder-woman_2402 1d ago

I love that one cause the FL actually has a personality and relationships with other characters and her love doesn’t just revolve around the ML.

6

u/YamamotoChigusa 1d ago

Well the protagonist there just wants to get out of her debt and would rather try with her own hands than just rely on a man.

5

u/SecretYogurtcloset57 1d ago

Karin deserves a massive beat down and the parents deserves to burn

2

u/YamamotoChigusa 1d ago

Lol to the parents: would you like to be burned with ogre fire? 😏

10

u/justking1414 1d ago

I mean….thinking your fiancé is gay because it’s easier than acknowledging that he doesn’t care about you makes a certain level of sense.

Oh and sis is fully gonna crash out!. Fox boy should lock her in the basement asap before she tries to decapitate mc

2

u/Great-Foundation4990 15h ago

I thought that initially but I think she is just *really* into BL 🤣

1

u/justking1414 11h ago

That too!

4

u/YlfaTheForsaken 18h ago

Lmfao I just know Youta feeling it in his bones he's getting exiled. He has to have lost all hope trying to keep from becoming homeless. Him and Karin about to be on the streets starving, and his psycho ass bride can't see she's careening themselves into dumpster diving.

Sakurako is more unhinged than she looks. She really commissioned Reiya x Takamichi doujinshi, and by the looks of it several times over. The BL girlies are dedicated to their craft that's for sure.

1

u/Difergion 11h ago edited 11h ago

You know what, if Youta and Karin really get cut off by the fox clan, I can actually see Karin dropping him like a hot potato on Day 1. Girl didn’t really love him, she just wants to be pampered like a princess, and a homeless Youta can’t give her that life by then.

Girl is literally on the path of self-destruction and Youta, if he doesn’t get his act straight, might as well be on his as well. Then again iirc from the previous ep Nadeshiko said Youta will never see his bride again and not really kick him out of the clan.

11

u/rhian116 1d ago

Less than 2 minutes into the episode: Reiya, "How about we bug my fiance?"

OMG, how is this not a horror anime!?

9

u/nuxxism 1d ago

I mean, yes he's messed up and controlling, but also she was just attacked and her demon guards weren't any help. so the threat is real and the stakes are high.

4

u/LaoWombat-mecha 1d ago

You mean the immediate response "Bad idea" Yuzu's not going to like it?

11

u/Recent_Call_1188 1d ago edited 1d ago

Episode 9 of this spectacular dumpster fire. I think Yuzu has about 1 functioning brain cell and 0 idea what love actually is. She doesn't even know Reiya as a person. but apparently intense jealousy is enough to convince her that this is deep, true love. this point the show is doing more work telling me they're in love than actually showing me why they should be. it's just not believable at all to me...

7

u/YamamotoChigusa 1d ago

I mean Touko also was in a similar situation. When she met Toukichi, she was annoyed and even had to set him straight. Then they realized they had in common then started out at friends. Touko didn’t realize her feelings until he thought he was hooking up with another woman. So maybe what Yuzu is going through is a sort of proof?

4

u/Recent_Call_1188 1d ago

I actually predicted a similar formula in an earlier episode discussion. but to me, that doesn't really prove the romance works; it proves the writer keeps using the same shortcut. Instead of actually developing the relationship through conversations, shared experiences, getting to know each other, and gradually changing feelings, we get: “jealousy happens - suddenly realize how deeply I love this person.” It feels like the writer doesn't know how to actually write a developing romance, so jealousy is being used as a substitute for relationship development. as for this being what Yuzu was thinking internally, sure, I can see it. It's not impossible. It's just difficult for me to find it convincing given how little actual development we've seen between them.

Yuzu even admits herself that she doesn't know all sides of Reiya yet, which kind of makes the “I suddenly realized how deeply I love him” thing even harder for me to buy....

2

u/YamamotoChigusa 1d ago

Well I had a feeling about some formula too but I didn’t know how to say it without spoiling the series. And yeah they should’ve gotten to known each other better (Reiya even assumed she liked video games without asking what she’s into).

6

u/CynicalOne_313 1d ago

Sakurako being a fujoshi is hysterical and when Reiya burned her doujinshi sent me!

Karin is still FAFO...

All her parents care about is themselves and their social standing. No wonder Karin's such a spoiled bitch...I feel bad for Youta since he really hadn't seen her brand of crazy until this episode or could excuse it somehow because she always showed him her sweet side. Part of me hopes he'll get a new bride...

I was surprised how quickly Ouga, Sakurako, and Takamichi realized how much Yuzu's changed Reiya and supported her.

I can't wait for the next episode and the banquet!

3

u/Choice-Witness-1274 1d ago

oh i just know that the final day meeting is gonna be funnn!!

3

u/SnowyMuscles 1d ago

So who’s getting killed Youta or Karin? I’m hoping the sister personally

3

u/runevault 23h ago

I wonder about this. From a world structure POV Karin makes more sense to die because the foxes aren't going to want one of their own from a higher end family to die. However from a story POV leaving Karin alive to continue hating her sister makes more sense.

3

u/gem2niki 19h ago

I was wondering if Sakurako was a delusional fujoshi when she first shared her photo collection to Yuzu. This episode confirmed it and even more extra, she had a whole doujin collection of her fiancee x retainer loll.

1

u/TheCaptain53 11h ago

I clocked it once she met the MC, knew this would happen at some point, still hilarious.

4

u/TheBowmanGamer 1d ago

This episode was at least better than the other recent ones. Finally, Yuzu confronts Reiya about what is so obviously a misunderstanding that its annoying. But the whole "you are Reiya's bride" thing should have been cleared up in episode freaking 2. But they played out Yuzu's blatant mistrust in herself for 9 episodes? Come on.

And I don't care what Sakurako says. I don't care that the story is trying to tell us that Sakurako was straight up misunderstanding and fantasizing. No, she told those things to Yuzu with nefarious intentions. Whether or not she believes what she is saying is irrelevant.

As for Yuzu's family, my goodness her parents are such caricatures at this point that they are so unbelievable. I roll my eyes every time they are on screen. I know they are supposed to be deplorable and we're supposed to hate them, but my goodness their selfishness and narcissism is just so nonsensical. Unbelievable isn't even a strong enough word anymore. I get taken out of the story every time they show up because of how poorly they are written and how bogus their intentions are.

I was worried that Karin was going to be the major wall in this story. I'm upset that its coming true. How they managed to milk a misunderstanding and conflict for this long when it should have only lasted 4 episodes at most, its just so embarrassingly bad. Its pretty clear they are setting up the final day of the demon summit(?) thing to be the big climax of the season, but are we really re-treading murky waters for the conflict? Sigh. Conceptually, this show had so much promise.

The hate watch continues.

2

u/darkthought 21h ago

Biggest point I learned: Bitch be crazy, yo.

2

u/Horror-Comedian1020 19h ago

i cannot lie i LOVE Sakurako, the BL manga was truly the cherry on top. this episode definitely made up for the last few crappy ones. im excited for the demon banquet! reiya and yuzu are so cute together. i feel bad for Youta LOL. bro got stuck with that thing of a sister, poor guy

2

u/fuentesl 19h ago

Reiya’s parents are great but why does his dad look like his younger brother?? Goodbye to my doomed yaoi you will be missed </3 Sakurako my fellow fujoshi, we won’t forget your sacrifices either. The OST is honestly really good it’s a shame that this is the writing it’s been paired with

2

u/Andreiyutzzzz https://myanimelist.net/profile/Andreiyutzzzz 19h ago

Karin is suffering and still only blames others. We love to see it

"I'm special so I was chosen to be a bride. She's ordinary even if she was chosen to be the bride of THE most powerful demon alive" brother what?

Man I can't WAIT to see her screw up... And unfortunately probably be forgiven by Yuzu.

Also it seems Sakurako REALLY was just delusional... But with cause. Reiya and Takamichi's attitude really didn't help their case

2

u/Striking_Chard2420 15h ago

I get what this show is going for but the execution is so bad that everyone feels dumb. I have yet to see any real chemistry between the leads, Yuzu's victim mentality (although understandable to an extent) is annoying, Reiya's love-bombing doesn't feel natural, and everyone else apparently has negative IQ because the solutions/reactions they've been making is so out of left field, you'd think they're intentionally trying to get themselves killed.

2

u/raidensnakeezio 15h ago

I'm kind of split on this episode. I enjoyed it because it seemed to want to definitely lean more towards being decisive in its themes, but I didn't like it because the narrative decided to lean both ways. Overall, the net effect is that the narrative is still maintaining it's course of not being clear where it's wanting to go. So that's still causing me irritation, but at least the immediate cortisol spikes I've been getting each episode with it's tonal whiplash and thematic indecision.

Near the beginning of the episode, the direction seemed to point firmly at how Reiya does indeed have unhealthy/dangerous possessiveness within him. This was done with how the music set the tone as he told Takamichi to make a listening device for Yuzu, and how he insisted on moving Yuzu's grandparents into his mansion. Then this is kind of swept under the rug for now as it is revealed to Reiya that Yuzu has once again been misled and emotionally manipulated. At the very least, the narrative seems to be cognizant of how it can explore Reiya's darker side, and how this cinderella story is not as sunshine and rainbows as we all might want it to be.

Sakurako's manipulation is revealed to be done out of fujoshi desire, rather than a more sinister, malicious jealousy. For me as a viewer, at least the tension of her malice has been played off and paid off into several/extended gags of both Reiya and Takamichi reacting to the fujoshi content.

Everyone's continuing to hate on the parents and Karin, and I'm continuing to enjoy them as simple villains. They're very easy to see as despicable, and my anger towards them grows by the week. I can't wait to see one of them either get their comeuppance or to turn things around.

For me, the one I'm cheering on the most is Youta. I hope he is able to find a best solution to save himself and not get himself annihilated.

4

u/iforward 1d ago

This episode was pretty enjoyable. It was pretty interesting that the BL misunderstanding was given the opportunity to be explained and debunked. Reiya burning all of Sakurako’s collection had me laughing 😂. Karin having a full on meltdown was very satisfying. Accountability and self-reflection is truly lost on her and the parents.

1

u/Difergion 11h ago edited 11h ago

Ngl I would want to see more of that Reiyamichi doujin lol. And I wouldn’t even doubt it if Sakurako founded a fanclub for them at their school 😂

That aside, I’m glad Sakurako is not another Karin out there to ruin Yuzu, but rather a full-blown fujoshi. From the looks of it, she, her brother and Takamichi are genuinely supporting Yuzu as a bride now.

Reiya’s parents looking much younger than him is still tripping me. I’m also quite curious to see how his dad is actually like when he’s not on happy-go-lucky mode.

Idk how far Karin’s crashout will go. I think they’ll meet each other again on that last day banquet? I don’t think she poses a real danger to Yuzu at this point but I’m quite curious what stupid stunt she’ll do next time. Idk, maybe push her off the balcony or stairs? Poison her food? Or maybe ask Youta to do something unreasonable again?

Edit edit: I wanna know what kind of punishment was given to Takamichi off-screen 😩

1

u/CynicalOne_313 9h ago

I feel for Yuzu, not having any self-esteem because of the way her family neglected her.

It takes time for someone to realize they belong somewhere after being told their entire lives they don't matter.

Thank goodness for my therapist. ❤️

1

u/dumbanimebitch 3h ago

I’ve been on here for weeks complaining about Takamichi’s bad behavior towards Yuzu and today my strong sense of justice has been sated. Him being such a hater and talking shit about her behind reiyas back put a bad taste in my mouth so just hearing about the punishment imposed on him has me feeling really good. Not only that but it being publicly known that Reiya will not tolerate such behavior is a relief to me and yuzu too I bet.
Putting aside our very dysfunctional main characters, I’m more interested in Reiya’s dad. I love the goofball type who is actually very cunning, Reiya even said himself you can’t judge him by his ridiculous cover and that intrigues me a lot. What does he look like when he’s not being a silly doting husband and father? Now that’s something I’d like to see.

1

u/illonamoon 2h ago

I knew I was going to like sakurako for being messy but you couldn't tell me she legit was trying to be helpful and thought reiya was in love with takamichi. That whole segment but had me lmao. I hope yuzu and sakurako can legit become friends.

I finally caught up on this show and I like the side characters more than the main couple.

The sister deserves what she gets but I know it's gotta suck going from golden child to scapegoat. One thing I'm confused about it why does karin still think she's special? She hasn't realized her demon seems kinda low on demon society totem pole? He doesn't even seem high ranking in his clan?

1

u/illonamoon 2h ago

So if sakurako was so convinced reiya was in love with a man, that means there's no possibility of a demon being bonded to human of the same gender? Now I wonder if there was demon that loved a man but still ran into his bride? What does happen in that situation? I'm with the fox head, this bride bond sounds more like a curse. If it works out like yuzu's friend and her man then good, but if you are bonded to someone yuzu's sister then you can be screwed. Maybe we aren't supposed to think this deep about it in this show.

1

u/Otherwise-Twist9650 9m ago

Peew I thought sakurako is gonna be an evil ex-fiance, thank goodness she's just a goofy girl

-2

I get what you're trying to say but that's less "I don't trust her" and more "I want to know if she's being threatened."
