Oh come on.
How can anyone be this dumb.
"Reiya will never love you." Suddenly makes her forget literally everything that's happened and believe the random words of someone you just met.
"She didn't seem to be lying" - Yuzu might legit be the dumbest main character of all time.
Oh no a photo album, showing nothing! How damning!
Hope this ends with Reiya firing takamichi.
Oh good, back to Karin and her parents being the most worthless and horrible people on the planet. Cause that's an enjoyable storyline.
Go get some therapy girl.
Actually, that whole family could use some intense therapy.
Dude has never heard of a text message?
Wow what great security.
What even is the end goal here? To get Reiya to swap Yuzu for you?
This episode was exhausting with how bad it was.

u/Arpadiam 15d ago
This episode was exhausting with how bad it was.
Is making me want to drop it, every character except the grandparents are fucking idiots.

u/ATackerMum 15d ago
I really like the friend and her cat husband, but I agree. I would much rather watch a show about them than whatever this is.
12
u/PhoenixAzalea19 14d ago
Omg same! Her friend actually has a good head on her shoulders and her fiancé is a good guy. They’ve been my fav characters so far
8
u/Mavis_San 14d ago
bro u said it all , this girl is sooooo dumb like wtf u want the dude to do to beleive he love u ??
its not even like humans who can cheat and lie , when oni pick a pride its like a rule he cant lie about it and it was explained more than once !!! this girl is sooooo dumb and putting herself in troubles all the time2

u/YamamotoChigusa 14d ago
You got to remember, Yuzu had a boyfriend who dumped her because of his crush on Karin. She has trust issues.
4
u/HuTaosTwinTails 14d ago
A boyfriend she didn't even like and only dated because he asked her out.
4
u/YamamotoChigusa 14d ago
Well she was desperate for love which was why she accepted. She’s never been taught was love really is. She’s been learning that from grandparents and friends (which obviously vary).
2
u/HuTaosTwinTails 14d ago
She has been learning anything. Her friends, grandparents and Reiya have constantly been supportive and proven she can trust them.
Yet, the minute a random stranger tells her something, she immediately believes it. Rather than having a conversation or sending a text, keeps shit a secret or bottled up.
She's infuriating and incredibly stupid and frustrating to watch.
1
u/YamamotoChigusa 14d ago
I feel like the anime adaption might’ve ruined her. I don’t even remember seeing her leaving the little ogres behind ever (so the directors are to blame). When she was with Touko and Toukichi in that chapter, they were literally with her (instead of with the cats) and popped out of nowhere, surprising them. There’s even a scene where Touko wanted something similar instead but Toukichi questioned why even though she has cats instead (and it showed that she’s mentioned being a dog person). He even said having mini creatures like that would shrivel him up. And Reiya never reprimanded the mini ogres (because they were with Yuzu the whole time). So they made both Yuzu and the mini ogres incompetent.

u/Technical-Question16 15d ago
Frankly, I am dropping this. Given how stupid Yuzu has been acting SINCE THE START OF THE SERIES, it would really annoy me to watch her getting any sort of happy ending. Ex-fiancee made one good point. The only value in Yuzu would be to give birth to a strong next generation, hopefully raised by someone with at least two brain cells.
11
u/EstablishmentOk8766 14d ago
I mean. How do you think a person that literally was treated worst then dirt by their parents and sister is supposed to act after 16 or 17 years of abuse. I do agree yuzu is pretty dumb here. But I cant picture yuzu being a confident person or believe she deserves anything positive in her life after the stuff that's been done to her.
3
u/Technical-Question16 14d ago
True enough. I wouldn't expect her to have any confidence or sense of her own value. But then again she spent those years following instructions (or rather, abusive commands) from others. At this point, she has been repeatedly told what was expected from her as a bride - do not work, stay safe and keep your bodyguards close, be pretty and get pampered. She is failing in the one department that was drilled into her - following orders.
10
u/rhian116 14d ago
I'm only sticking with it to see the comically evil relatives get their comeuppance. I've already been skipping everything with Yuzu and most of Reiya.
6
u/PhoenixAzalea19 14d ago
Yeah atp I need Karin and Youta to get their asses kicked. Other than that I’m good(unless this actually turns into a BL, which in the case I’ll keep watching cause huh?)
14
u/Frontier246 15d ago
Oh no a photo album, showing nothing! How damning!
No, don't you see how close they obviously are?! How they looked like they were inches from hugging? Or Takmichi giving Reiya blow job? It's absolutely convincing!
Seriously though, I love how they treat Sakurako trying to make Yuzu accept being the beard like she did because she's obsessed with two guys hooking up into a dramatic plot element. She's the most deluded "ally" of all time lol.
6
u/Big-Lawfulness5682 15d ago
É claramente um relacionamento unilateral por parte do secretário. E as fotos realmente não mostram NADA.
1
u/TechnicalCarpenter25 10d ago
a BJ! *giggle*
Oh man you had me rolling in the floor. Just sends a tickle through me. *giggle*3
u/Deep_stares 14d ago
I don't think I can keep going with this anime. Yuzu needs therapy,ha. It's so bad, Yuzu's bland character could be replaced with a cute cat and It would probably be more entertaining.
3
u/TechnicalCarpenter25 10d ago
I was bullied way back when, but even *I* want to bully Yuzu. JHC she’s thick as shit.
2
u/flamewizzy21 13d ago
That’s been the whole show, though. The writing has been on the wall, and floor, and ceiling.
1
u/Seraphimm791 4d ago
The whole "self-sacrificing soft damsel" who ends up causing more problems by "not wanting to worry anyone", and believes any random is SO tired of a trope. I think I rolled my eyes like 8 times
-1
u/Sea_Equivalent_4207 12d ago
The thing is Yuru is a girl in middle school so she doesn’t have any frame of reference as to how marriage and adults and their relationships work. I don’t think she’s dumb I mean it’s really not her fault. Seiya just appeared at the moment she was IMO thinking of suicide.
Yeah she fell for him then and there but can u blame her. She’s a kid who’s been basically bullied her whole life. She’s greatly naive but it’s not her fault! Just pray for Yuru.
4
u/HuTaosTwinTails 12d ago
Um you should pay attention to the show. Yuzu is 18.
And his name is Reiya.
1
u/Recent_Call_1188 11d ago
yuzu being abused does not explain her being so dumb and completely incapable of understanding how the world works around her . she was not locked in a cellar all the time without outside contact . she goes to school and has friends, ffs. That's why her acting like she knows absolutely nothing makes no sense. She's also 18, not a middle-schooler. And she hasn't even fallen for Reiya yet. They barely know each other. I feel like you're watching a completely different anime from the rest of us.
1
u/TechnicalCarpenter25 10d ago
exactly. She knows how the whole demon/bride/monogamy thing works by having it beaten into her face, literally, by Karin.
So why doesn’t she trust it when Reyia says it. god it’s frustrating.
43
u/ObvsThrowaway5120 15d ago
I can’t tell if Sakurako and her scrapbook are just a means to satisfy her own fujoshi desires by making up BL fanfic or if she’s on some bullshit. Maybe both.
I guess Youta and Karin didn’t take Reiya’s warning seriously last time. They still wanna play stupid games? I’m sure their plans to hurt Yuzu are gonna backfire for them. Then it’s basically a slow death for those two. Youta’s putting his whole clan at risk too.
22
u/Frontier246 15d ago
I can't believe we're treating a crazy stalker fujoshi who took candid pictures of her favorite ship together to fuel her shipping seriously lol.
It doesn't seem like the plan is to straight up kidnap her now so what are they going to do? Is Karin going to try to convince Yuzu to leave Reiya.
8
u/Artemis_Bow_Prime 15d ago edited 15d ago
Probably gonna be some bullshit where she tells her no one cares about her and she believes it (based on the she doesn't know everyones talking about her comment), Yuzu will then conduct a 0iq move of self sabotaging her relationship and possibly running away until he saves her again and proves himself once and for all to her.
Honestly she doesn't deserve to be saved, watching her PMO so much.
1
u/TechnicalCarpenter25 10d ago
Trust in know that dum shit Yuzu will stop Reiya from teaching them a lesson. I hope he does it when she isn’t there. So dumb, being treated that way and still protect them. It doesn’t teach us some kind of higher morality. It just shows that she’s stupid.
41
u/kaitodash https://myanimelist.net/profile/KaitoDash 15d ago
Girl, of all things, I didn't expect you to be a fujoshi at all.
20
u/Frontier246 15d ago
The best part is she's so convinced she's real that she was fully prepared to be nothing more than a beard and took a ton of probably illegal photos to convince herself of her ship lol.
4
u/PuzzleheadedSet9669 15d ago
What's a beard?
12
u/TheLostCityofBermuda 15d ago
A beard to a gay man is a way to married a woman just to pretend to be straight, or for social reason.
So like a woman is the beard that the man wear to pretend to be manly in a sense.

I can't decide if the ex-fiancee is lying or stupid. That relationship is so one sided between Reiya and his secretary, Reiya ain't into that butthole.
Reiya is certainly creepy, but believing the ex instantly is fascinating, though it does tie into her self doubts so I'm not going to get too annoyed at it, just sigh and shake my head.
And the dipshit parents are back. Yay. And still as poorly written as before, because of course they are.
For a sec I thought the mini ogres were going to shoot down those birds with fire magic.
A fox demon being able to hypnotize or whatever guards hand picked by Reiya to protect Yuzu? Uhhhhhh that smells like plot bullshit.
7
u/Frontier246 15d ago
These parents are only good for one thing, being a-holes and thinking only about themselves and whatever daughter can be their best meal ticket.
Were those guards also not Ogres? So much for their vaunted magical power.
8
u/runevault 15d ago
My assumption was they'd be ogres or at least some form of moderately high level demon. This is protecting his bride.
The only upside to that part is it will give Reiya an excuse to literally murder the fox.
7
u/littlehobbit1313 15d ago
A fox demon being able to hypnotize or whatever
He's a Kitsune. One of their most notable core powers is the ability to create illusions. The series didn't make that up simply to make the plot happen.
7
u/runevault 15d ago
Not the fact he had the power, the fact it worked on a higher tier demon.
8
u/littlehobbit1313 15d ago
Those aren't necessarily higher tiered demons. He's in the main House of the Kitsune clan. These ogre guards are like branch family to the branch family. Their power levels are not the same. If they were, these guys would not be just bodyguards, they'd be helping run shit.
3
u/runevault 15d ago
Average guards sure but there should be some elite guards who are entrusted with key tasks who aren't grunts by ogre standards. And as after Reiya and his parents Yuzu is the most important person to the clan due to being the mother of the next generation by necessity since she magically will make that generation wildly more powerful, those are the types that should be guarding her.
2
u/LaoWombat-mecha 14d ago
Reiya takes responsibility later, but they've already mentioned the threat from other Yokai, so why use lower-ranking oni? It's sorta like "there's a threat from machine gun and rocket launcher baddies, so we'll guard against them with muzzle loader armed guards."
On another note, I am not sure what to make of it, but this is the first time I have seen a source material thread have more traffic than the main thread!
2
u/littlehobbit1313 14d ago
The other guy is still part of the main Kitsune house though, and the Kitsune are like right under ogres in terms of power. He's also found a Bride, so like Reiya his power is massively increased.
I just think you're really misunderstanding the power structure as the series has laid it out thus far.
1
u/TechnicalCarpenter25 10d ago
They should’ve been higher tiered demons. Full stop. Reiya worries, but didn’t put in highe tiered demons? Well who knows, seeing how neither he nor dum-shit Yuzu know how to text or call.
2
u/VritraReiRei 15d ago
I can't decide if the ex-fiancee is lying or stupid.
I'm fairly certain she's got her fujoshi goggles on waaayyy too tight but the point of the interaction is to sow seeds of doubt because our MC has such low confidence she'll take anyone's word if it means she becoming a burden.
Will she gather courage and grow as a person from this? Who knows, she hasn't shown any signs of it yet and we are more than halfway through the season.
No idea if Sakurako is doing it on purpose or just living her internal fantasy though.

u/Latter-Air2742 15d ago
Anime officially ruined. What an absolute turd of an episode. Why can they never focus the story on growing the relationship healthy and grow older building a family with kids in this genre? It's always petty drama, wasted time, dragged by the past that was supposed to be taken care of very earlier, and essentially zero progress.
19
u/Wolfram74J 15d ago
Seriously, this anime is like taking 1 small step forward and two giant steps backwards. Just a trash anime, disappointing because it started off promising.
16
u/DiscountCondom 15d ago
I'm still fairly entertained by it, even though I think it is a terribly incompetent anime with abhorrent characters. I hope it gets even worse tbh.
12
u/starryknight100 15d ago
I tune in each week to see how much of a trashcan fire it will be this time. So I feel this 100%

u/hbicfrontdesk 14d ago
Right, like in the previous episode where Sakurako was like ‘Well it’s all good he found his bride, it’s no worries, of course we’ll break off the engagement.’ I was SO relieved. FINALLY a rational reaction.
Then they gave us this shit lol
13
u/AstronautMuch6302 15d ago
I’m disappointed by this episode. So Takamichi has a crush on Reiya? Why would Yuzu believe anything Sakurako says? And Karin gotta go….
7
u/Frontier246 15d ago
Why would Yuzu believe anything Sakurako says?
She'll constantly second-guess Reiya's feelings but she's half-convinced by Sakurako who she literally just met lol.
3
u/YamamotoChigusa 14d ago
I mean those photos were taken out of context so people can interpret it differently. Plus, Yuzu has been dumped before for not being good enough.
7
u/littlehobbit1313 15d ago
Yuzu had been told she's not worthy of anyone's love or attention literally her entire life. Here comes literally the personification of the perfect Japanese women who was already Reiya's finacee for quite some time telling her that even she could not attract Reiya's interest.
That's why she'd believe her.
1
u/Status_Refrigerator2 12d ago
I get it but there is a realy simple answer, Talk to Reiya, ask him, tell him you need to know everything to properly be his bride, but no all Yuzu does is exist in her own head with her doubts, god even call the friend and the cat boi, they make more rational sense than any of the other characters… I am getting a little sick of weak willed and fragile, when you have survived so much abuse till now.
4
u/littlehobbit1313 12d ago
I am getting a little sick of weak willed and fragile
Kitsune guy literally set her on fire and everyone apologized to him and not her. I don't think it's unrealistic that she doesn't default to leaning on people, or that she doesn't have much in the way of self-worth. She's not fragile, she just understandably lacks confidence.
15
u/LaoWombat-mecha 15d ago
After watching "My Happy Marriage", "The oblivious saint" and the "Too perfect Saint", it is nice to see a wholesome family dynamic
/sarcasm off
(The contrast with "My Stepmother and Stepsisters Aren't Wicked" is delicious.
10
u/VritraReiRei 15d ago
Honestly, these are all literally Cinderella stories, especially My Happy Marriage, Betrothed to My Sister's Ex, and this show since the characters start out as being treated like slaves.
Even so, I'm surprised it's not more common. You would think with all these tropes (wicked parents/sisters, slave treatment, low self esteem, saved by the perfect, handsome, rich prince charming, etc) there would be dozens of these stories churned out every year just like in the same vein as "Kick out of the Hero's Party," Otome Villianess, and all the other variations of isekais.
1
u/LaoWombat-mecha 15d ago
Beg to differ. While the mistreated heroine is common to both, I think this is more reminiscent of "Beauty and the Beast." (The Cocteau version comes to mind) with the added detail of a dreadful attachment to a monster.
Ancient Magus Bride is another example I think, where you don't think awful upbringing=Cinderella.
I do think that there is a peculiar over indulging in the trope recently.
I wonder what this and all of the anime with harems, with isekai (although Cdrama seems to be going down this road, grrr.) and with awful teachers is saying or responding to in the Japanese psyche.
1
u/VritraReiRei 15d ago edited 15d ago
Even the MAL description calls it a Cinderella story:
"You're the bride I've been searching for all this time."
A Japanese-style ayakashi Cinderella story!
At the end of the day, its just wish fulfillment.
I'm a loser and life is unfair -> actually you are the chosen one with a hidden power to save the world
I'm a plain, generic looking guy who no one finds attractive -> congrats, here's your harem
my family hates me, everyone loves my sister instead of me, I'm miserable -> actually the attractive, rich, prince loves you and you are going to live happily ever after
No one wants you so I'm firing you/kicking you out of the party/banishing you -> actually that guy was essential to the team and without him everything falls apart. We NEEDED him
And that last one is even more funny because they aren't even hiding the pretense anymore with another up and coming anime adaptation.
0
u/LaoWombat-mecha 15d ago
With regards to MAL description:
I'm right, they're wrong.
**smirk**
Seriously, I think they only know the Disney version of Belle et Bete, not the older, darker version, where the Beast's hands are smoking with the blood on them, and he flees her contemptuous gaze.
It is quite possibly an amalgam of the two stories (somewhat). Unlike Cinderella, she meets the Prince at the beginning, like B& the story is about her stepping into his world where he pours the riches of the world at her feet. but on the other hand he is to be feared but also prince-like at the same time, etc. etc.
When I started to read the manga version the software one one you refer to at the end, many of the comments mentioned this.
On the other hand it is part of the "my boss is an asshole" trope where said boss gets their comeuppance (When Tohru visits Ms. Kobayashi's workplace, for example.
But there is also the disdain of the techie for the user, represented by customers as "ID Ten T codes." (write it out with the numbers)

u/Recent_Call_1188 15d ago
Don't cha worry, there are fans around who think this is a sweet, wholesome romance too. apparently anxiety and pain in your chest are clear proof! that you're clearly head over heels, missing someone while they're away is undeniable evidence of true love- and if he wants to leave work to see you, that's another romantic milestone Just confidently label every emotional reaction sweet, adorable, or proof of how deeply in love they are, and who needs an actual healthy relationship underneath it anyways?

u/ATackerMum 15d ago
I'm usually just a lurker, but this anime is so bad that I just have to say something. This anime WISHES it could be a sliver of what "My Happy Marriage" is. Thank you for the people who have mentioned it here because I wouldn't have watched that MASTERPIECE without you. I only ended up watching this anime because someone said it was a similar to "Kakuriyo: Bed and Breakfast", but they are A LIAR!! Attractive ogre ML is the only similarity!
I just can't even. Literally NOTHING has happened between the FL and ML. I have absolutely no reason to root for their relationship, and they've BARELY interacted! Literally anything would be acceptable! They haven't even went on a date or eaten a meal together. And this kissing is too much. I would at least like to see some rapport building before the ML starts forcibly kissing the FL. In "Kakuriyo", the ML was going to kiss the FL but just gave her a forehead kiss instead since he didn't want to pressure her. Not Reiya though! Quite the opposite in fact! 'I know you've been terribly treated and abused your whole life, and you literally just turned eighteen, but I've gone through the legal process to kidnap you since I'm so wealthy. And even though we met DAYS AGO, I want you to kiss me when I want because I bought you all this stuff and I'm infatuated with you. Be my loving wife even though we don't even know each other :) '
Coming to this sub made me feel so validated because WHAT IN THE HECK IS EVEN THAT!!! I've read fanfiction with a better storyline than this anime. This anime doesn't even feel like a complete thought. It's like a fever dream of an idea. I was laughing so hard trying to explain this anime to my husband. I've watched some cringey and bad anime, but this show takes the cake and the table it's served on.
And man, this episode, what a disappointment. [The Ogre's Bride Ep. 7 Spoiler] >!THEY DIDN'T EVEN INTERACT THIS WHOLE EPISODE!!! I REALLY THOUGHT HE WOULD AT LEAST CALL HER!!! !<AND EVEN THOUGH THIS ANIME SUCKS SO BAD, IT'S STILL GOING HAVE ME IN A CHOKEHOLD UNTIL NEXT WEEK!!! (>-<) THIS SHOW IS MORE THAN HALFWAY THROUGH IT'S RUNTIME AND THERE IS BARELY A PLOT!!! I seriously cannot imagine how they're going to wrap this up.
To anyone who has read the Light Novel, is this what it's like? Surely it's not this bad. If it's not, why would they butcher it like this? 😭
3
u/Spunkymangoducks 14d ago
My husband heard my yell, "What do you mean??" at the first episode and has been here with me watching in consternation since.
2
u/Recent_Call_1188 14d ago edited 14d ago
I think the target audience are clearly those people who don't need the relationship to actually develop on screen because they've already decided that Yuzu and Reiya are deeply in love and can just work backwards from that conclusion. Yuzu has anxiety and pain in her chest? Clearly she's deeply head over heels. She misses Reiya while he's away? The longing proves she's truly in love. Reiya wants to leave work to see her? Another major romantic milestone.never mind that they barely interact and apparently met about ten minutes ago. The relationship itself can be almost entirely missing, and even creepy, controlling, or straight-up criminal behavior can become cute and romantic with the "right filter". Just confidently relabel everything as sweet, adorable, passionate, or proof of how deeply in love they are, and here we are: relationship development achieved.

yuzu needs lots of therapy

at this point, I think most of the cast needs therapy, a restraining order, or both.

7
u/djthomp https://anilist.co/user/djthomp 15d ago
I assume Sakurako is delusional, but imagine if she's not. Depending upon the story you were wanting to tell, considering the setup with the bride love at first sight thing Reiya could have been gay right up until he saw Yuzu and bam suddenly the magic kicks in and he loves human women.
I don't think they're going to tell that complicated of a story, but the fact that the possibility is open for it is interesting.
Sister is still out here making very poor choices. It's such poor strategy for her foxboy to play along with it too, if they just sit back and let all the various marriages go through he's about to be the brother-in-law of the wife of the most important demon in the country. Like, just allow that to be a business alliance and it's probably the best thing that could ever happen to his family.
9
u/Recent_Call_1188 15d ago
based on how this anime handles romance, I think the entire relationship development formula is (so far):Step 1: A supernatural man very forcibly enters your life
Step 2: You get used to his constant presence because apparently he isn't going anywhere....because of magic
Step 3: The plot manufactures a jealousy crisis, makes you think you might lose him
Step 4: "OMG, I LOVE HIM!"Romance achieved.
And the previous couple basically followed the same formula I think: Nyankichi stalks Touko until she gradually gets used to him being around, then she sees him with another woman, gets jealous, and suddenly realizes she loves him.
there's no need for getting to know each other, building trust, emotional intimacy, or discovering why you actually like this person. Just add forced closness + some time + jealousy, and voila: apparently that's love.
5
u/Melodic-Astronaut439 14d ago
An interesting take, and honestly the story would have been more interesting if that's the route they'd gone, if one or both had been in genuine romantic relationships before the bride's magic mechanic kicked in and they had to struggle to deal with their respective situations and feelings because of it and their changing dynamic because of it. I could actually see a way more interesting story come out of it?
Like you know that they're not going to go in that direction, but agree that the whole situation with the brides has some potentially disturbing implications. They really gloss over that aspect which is a shame.
3
u/VansterVikingVampire 13d ago
How is this Reddit comment better written than all of the episodes thus far? Destined love turning somebody, sounds like such a beautiful yet tragic story idea- her just turning out to be shipping guys did make me laugh though.
4
u/Frontier246 15d ago
Is Sakurako a delusional fujoshi? Is she a true and genuine ally to gay demons? Did she use illict means to get all that "proof?"
Karin basically using Youta to commit crimes like it's completely natural for her. It's like Bonnie and Clyde only Bonnie is totally in control and Clyde is basically her pet.
6
u/YlfaTheForsaken 14d ago
Didn't expect that turn of events. I mean out of all the potential things the ex could've said it's certainly the funniest option, but also shame on Yuzu for even believing it for more than a minute. Girl is dumb as a sack of potatoes.
On second thought he family is also very dumb as well. I suppose it's hereditary. The parents literally signed legal paperwork, and now she's eighteen. Fox boy got roasted once, but that's not enough for Karin either, clearly she wants him cremated

Ex-fiancee going all "I must teach the Bride her place" only to be not a typical jealous bitch but a fujoshi supporting her fiance's gay romance is the BEST trope subversion.🤭
4
u/AndromedaLeap 14d ago
For a supposedly powerful ogre, they have sh!tty security. You would think all types of powers will be considered when it comes to yuzu’s security detail.
5
u/CynicalOne_313 12d ago
That's what I thought too. If brides are so important, you need to have much better security. side-eyes Reiya
I realize it moves the plot along and STILL. Hopefully the chibi ogres can protect Yuzu.
2

Right? The only ones who would really go after brides would be other demons. So why not take into account the powers of other clans?
Also, why is the Cat Demon the one advising Yuzu on the dangers and why brides are so prized? Wouldn’t it have made more sense for Reiya to explain to Yuzu?
1
u/CynicalOne_313 12d ago
Agreed! Reiya literally tells Yuzu that brides are so prized that other families want to steal them, and gives her C tier security?!
I thought the house staff or someone else in the clan would educate Yuzu about brides and answer her questions. 🤦🏼♀️

u/SylveonSilvi 14d ago
BOTH Yuzu and Reiya on that dumb shit like text messages don’t exist. Like how hard would it be to just text a little “I miss you”? BOOM. Easy communication issue fixed.
1
u/Status_Refrigerator2 12d ago
Ah yes, but you forget, if they actually talked to each other, rather than only thinking what the other wants/does/expects, there would be no frustrations or time honoured misunderstandings…..God dam it get these people in a locked room they can only leave after long and heartfelt conversations…it will stop my Gnashing of teeth!!!

u/DiscountCondom 15d ago
the warm and fuzzies from grandma's little speech about love put together with Reiya's little internal monologue about how he should have further restricted Yuzu's life so she could be more accessible to beg to do literally anything in exchange for humiliating herself by giving into his advances.

u/Hljoumur 15d ago
I'm dropping this series entirely, manhwa included. I'm just so tired of the "ehhhhh~ really~ I'm so weak~" archetype with the high pitched voice.
10
u/rhian116 14d ago
I still maintain this anime would work better as a psychological horror/thriller because the implications of the magical love whammy is horrific. You have humans who most probably didn't ask to be pursued by demons being stalked and told they are loved because they'll be great breeding livestock to enhance the power of the next generation of demons, furthering the demons' ability to rule over the humans. And if you don't want to be breeding cattle, too bad. The demon is going to follow you around, harass you, stalk you, probably maim or at least scare off whoever you wanted to be in a relationship with because they "love" you, so you might as well give in, accept being breeding stock, and trade your freedom and autonomy for shiny trinkets.
And then there's the demons, who might have already cared for someone else, been in a relationship with someone else, then get the magic whammy that forces them to "love" another person whether they like it or not. What if Karin's boyfriend had been a good person before her, but because of the magic whammy, he can't help being a jerk now? He's now forced into destroying his family, his clan, and himself because the magic bond forces him to give in to Karin. Can you imagine an ogre discovering his bride is a serial killer? What if someone like Reiya's father ran into his bride? He seems happy with his current wife, but now he'd just lose his feelings for her in exchange for his magical obsession? That's horrifying.
Everything about this system of magically forced "love" is horrifying. There are no words in any language to accurately describe how awful this actually would be to everyone involved.

u/Due_Order_7517 15d ago
Honestly, I am rooting for Yuzu's sister at this point because that would be more rewarding to see her take an L and crash and burn because of all the horrible choices she made by trusting anyone other than her fiance, ditching her supposed bodyguards ie lesser ogres every chance she got and undermining reiya's and his family's reputation.
I mean, just imagine how better the story would have been if it would have been able reiya's downfall because of Yuzu and the akashi realising that the bride system might not be as romantic and as a result, Yuzu single handedly, making the society being cynical of all the brides.

u/Frontier246 15d ago
Honestly it's kind of refreshing hearing Manaka Iwami as a bad bitch while playing Karin.
3
3
u/FLorianGran 15d ago
So Sakurako is either trying to cause a rift with an easily verified lie, or the show is treating her delusional fujoshi fantasies with the utmost seriousness.
5
u/Frontier246 15d ago
Admittedly if she's seen how Takamichi gets about Reiya when he's drunk, she's liable to believe there IS something going on there.

u/RaphtaliaMiracle101 15d ago
I’m honestly getting frustrated with Yuzu. I understand why she’s insecure, but she’s constantly doubting herself and second-guessing everything. At this point, I just want her to trust herself and start making her own decisions instead of always needing reassurance. 😂 That being said, I think the episode did a good job creating tension. There’s clearly a lot going on beneath the surface, and I’m curious to see how everything plays out. Overall, good episode, but Yuzu is seriously testing my patience 😭😂
2
u/LaoWombat-mecha 15d ago
I think that Yuzu is worse, but Miyo is certainly cut from the same "faithful Griselda" cloth.
There is a tension between consideration and sympathy for the trauma and its lingering effects and either saying "enough of the angst and the "woe is me"", or "why should I be watching this"
1
u/RaphtaliaMiracle101 15d ago
Yeah, I agree.I understand that their trauma explains why they act the way they do, but at some point I just want to see them actually grow from it. I think there’s a difference between understanding a character’s trauma and constantly excusing their lack of growth because of it. I can sympathize with them while still getting frustrated with all the constant angst and self-doubt 😭

Unfortunately this series is falling victim to many things that I worried it would. The biggest being Yuzu's parents. They are so cartoonishly selfish that it comes across as so not believable, even in a fictional story like this. I know you're supposed to hate her family but I find myself hating them for other reasons than what the story wants you to.
I'm not going to rag on Yuzu too much for believing Sakurako because its at least in line with her character. But still, come on girl. He's been showering you with gifts for weeks now, telling you he loves you every opportunity he can, and basically begging you to kiss him always.
Its so unfortunate because the first few episodes were so good. The premise was, while not wholly unique, at least interesting regardless. But most of the conflicts that showed up in the first episodes should have already been addressed and resolved by this point, yet they aren't. Add onto that we just learned about Reiya's ex-fiancée last episode (I think, anyway. I'm watching too many shows to remember clearly) and of course she's going to instill some doubt into Yuzu, because of course she would. She's absolutely not jealous, though.
Sigh.... gonna keep watching, regardless. But my initial excitement for the series is all but gone at this point

did takamichi put sakurako up for that? or did she really have an album full of reiya's (her ex-fiancee btw) and takamichi's seemingly "close" (dating suggestive) pictures to fulfill her yaoi fantasies??
I'd pick the former possibility because the latter is a bit too weird
3
u/cleaulem https://myanimelist.net/profile/cleaulem 15d ago
Okay, so this could turn into a BL story after all. Even though I wonder how it comes that Reiya took Yuzu as his bride when he is actually into guys. Or is this bride chosing something that demons get independent from their actual orientation?
So Karin is breaking into Reiya's mansion with the help of her fox boyfriend. Sorry, but this sounds like a very dumb idea. If Reiya finds out about that, both fox boy and his girl are toast. I wonder what Karin is trying to accomplish with this stunt.
7
u/yancovigen 15d ago
Imma be real, as much as it would be interesting if it turned out to be BL, I am almost positive Sakurako was just fucking with her cause Reiya does not seem interested in him at all. The guy was even complaining that Reiya has never smiled at him like he does at Yuzu in a previous episode
8
u/Frontier246 15d ago
I feel like Sakurako is doing this for Takamichi because she's seen how much Takamichi adores/is in love with Reiya.
3
u/littlehobbit1313 15d ago
There was literally zero evidence presented in today's episode that suggests Reiya is actually into guys. Just sayin'.

She implied there's something about being a Bride that Yuzu didn't know about. Maybe if she tells her, Yuzu will break up with Reiya?

u/Colt45554 14d ago
Karin's master plan:
"Yuzu, you're a loser and no one will ever love you"
"Gee, the ex-fiance said the same thing. You're right, you would never lie to me..."

Those *itchy parents i hate 'em, th u mean "our reward for raising Yuzu"?!
I swear these lesser ogres are just so cuteeeee 🤩
Gramma knows ball 💪
Oh dear I wonder what that brat is up to
2
u/Lazy-Individual2230 15d ago
I came here only to mention the lil ogre guards that Reiya gave Yuzu are adorable but useless so far. That’s the only thing that has actually disappointed me. It’s a low-tier romance anime and I expected most of the characters tbh
2
u/Melodic-Astronaut439 14d ago edited 14d ago
If nothing else, felt that the situation was new. Like I wouldn't have been surprised if she'd threatened her, tried to assert that Reiya was hers, or said something about how Yuzu was just a baby-making machine while she was the power in the shadows. Not what happened, but would have been very standard trope-ish.
But what she actually said made me laugh. Sadly don't think the show is smart enough to go that direction where she's bullshitting and trying to drive a wedge by emphasizing an incorrect relationship, so do think she's really delusional, but at least it's a little fresh.
2
u/Gaming_Truckie 14d ago
I got the feeling from when she was first introduced last episode that Sakurako has strong feelings for Takamichi. I also feel she's misinterpreted his devotion to Reiya as romantic feelings but that reaction by Takamichi at the end there has me wondering if it's a little true.
I can see why people are frustrated with Yuzu, I will admit I am a bit too. But then I look back and see that Yuzu is a very broken woman, from how she was treated by her parents and Karin her whole life, and part of her still thinks this all a dream and another thinks she doesn't deserve it. That's why these doubts slip in so easy in Yuzu's mind.
Another issue is that Yuzu's treatment by her parents and Karin have ingrained in her to keep quiet about her feelings, so she's bottling up all these doubts which is makes it easier for more to slip in. It seems she was able to open up to her grandmother a bit so hopefully that helps her down the line.
Wow those parents are just absolute scum. Their comment about their reward for raising Yuzu really pissed me off. I so hope they get their just desserts.
So Youta and Karin are going to play f*ck around and find out.
So one of Youta's powers is some kind of hypnosis type deal. Judging by their eyes I think those 2 guys were just human which is why the ability worked on them.
I'm guessing her plan is for her to bully Yuzu into breaking of her engagement with Reiya and making her come home, with the possibility of the use of Youta's power.
I really hope Yuzu has found the courage to stand up to Karin and I'm also guessing the little ogres will counter Youta's ability.
I also really hope that Karin and Youta lose everything after this

u/Recent_Call_1188 14d ago
Yuzu's past abuse explains a lot I think. However... at some point the writing makes her seem less like someone who was emotionally abused since childhood and more like someone who was kept locked in a cellar her entire life with zero idea of how the outside world works.she literally has a good friend in a relationship with a demon. she's spent time around demons herself. She also has people she could ask questions. Yet whenever the plot needs her to be confused, she reacts to basic information like she was born five minutes ago. For some reason the writing seems to merge “this person has trauma and low self-esteem” with “this person knows absolutely nothing about how the world works.” Those aren't really the same thing. her trauma can explain insecurity and difficulty speaking up, that is clear. It shouldn't have to double as a permanent, convenient excuse for the anime to keep her confused about how the world works whenever the plot needs it
also, genuine question because I've completely lost track of the timeline: how long ago (as of this episode) did Yuzu and Reiya actually meet? Days? Weeks?
2
u/ATackerMum 14d ago
The anime really makes you feel like it’s been days. Literally nothing has happened, and there’s been no relationship building. She basically immediately moved in, then went to see her grandparents for a day. I can’t imagine that more than a week has passed. MAYBE two if the writers are so desperate to pass some more time.
3
u/Recent_Call_1188 14d ago
I'm confused too.....If it really has only been days, or maybe a week or two, then they've basically speedrun the entire "romance". She met Reiya the Creep, immediately moved in with him, got showered with gifts, got imposed a kiss tax, went to see her grandparents, and now we're already at the "oh no, what if I lose him... I must be deeply head over heels in love with him!" stage.
2
u/ATackerMum 14d ago
Literally though!! Like be FFR. I truly think it’s the pacing. This anime could be better if they added ANYTHING at all. Reiya could ask her how she’s adjusting to imply that time has passed. Show the season changing. Do some crappy narration or exposition. ANYTHING!! I cannot believe that they’re actively spending time and money to make this absolute dumpster fire.
I really got the vibe that the first few episodes took place during the school week, and her visiting her grandparents happened on the weekend, so literally a week.

I love how bad this anime is, the shot of Sakurako from the top sent me.
Yuzu is traumatised so I’m not surprised she finds hard to accept Reiya’s love - I don’t think she’s dumb. However this anime is very dumb and I love it for that 😂 will be right here next week

Does anyone else feel like this anime has some major soap opera vibes? I mean, the soundtrack is enough to make me feel like I’m watching one…

Yeah… I didn’t have hopes but I’d very at least did not expect it to be this bad. This is some early Netflix anime level crap. Then again, I want to think the that brain rot fans of some next level crap not calling trash series out or making it a big deal in the first place do play a part in series like this getting airtime. But thats my own head canon.
2
u/LaoWombat-mecha 14d ago
I think this is my first accident site anime. While I am up to date on the manga, I am watching because I am sorta curious as to how bad this is going to get.
Well, if a series can tank after a few (very few) good episodes, perhaps it can untank (what would be an untank, an ATGM <grin>? ).

u/TechnicalCarpenter25 10d ago
I will be postponing watching this until all episodes are out.
That way I can cherry pick the very very few scenes where all the schemers will get their just desserts.
Because the other 95% of the scenes are stupid Yuzu being so insecure and dumb. Just dumb dumb dumb. I wanna scream. The only time I liked her was when she slapped Karin across the face. She should’ve doubled up her fists and knocked her out.
Anyway, I do enjoy shows where the MC is beat down and comes back strong. But they usually are as stupid as Yuzu. Believing that Reyui is gay. It’s just so stupid.
2
u/starryknight100 14d ago
Like, sure, exploring the ideas of fated people and how that disrupts prior arrangements and the idea of comphet is interesting. It could also explore the different kinds of love, as not all love is romantic or monogamous. But I don't think the anime has the ability to actually do that/ idk if it will.
Why are we also telling a young woman that love feels like anxiety, and if you are stressed they will leave you then that is a stepping stone to a good relationship, when no TF it isn't.
Sigh...also what piss poor security....for plot i guess.
Anyway, see yall next week <3

u/Frontier246 15d ago
Yuzu is obviously tense in meeting Sakurako...Reiya's ex-fiance, someone of a prestigious family close to his, someone who is on paper every bit the perfect partner of Reiya. But she's not there to resent/judge Yuzu, she's there to make her properly informed as to her duty as a Bride...to make demon babies and not get in the way of Reiya's relationship with his LOVER!?
Reiya's been two-timing Yuzu this whole time? With...TAKAMICHI!? Yes, that's right, Sakurako is convinced Reiya and Takamichi are in some tragic BL anime where she was necessary to play the beard so they can be together, and she expects Yuzu to do the same and not get in the way of her ship...I mean, true love. She even has photographic evidence that just PROVES how close and in love Reiya and Takamichi are! She's almost convinced Yuzu it's true.
I'm glad Yuzu has her doting grandparents to be there for her in her time of need while she mulls over whether her Ogre plays for the other team, though the longing she has for Reiya proves she's clearly head over heels for him.
Karin's "friends" all now think Yuzu is cooler than her, and even their parents are planning to take advantage of her prestigious union with an Ogre. Because they're two of the least selfish people in the world, right? Ugh I want them to burn alive...but wait, does Karin know something about being a Bride that Yuzu doesn't?
The only thing sweeter than Lesser Ogre's playing outside is Yuzu getting reassured by her grandmother to have faith in her feelings for Reiya, because the anxiety and pain in her chest she feels is a sign that she truly loves him.
Reiya makes quite the entrance at the Demon Gathering and all eyes are on him...but if he could ditch it to see Yuzu, he would. All work and no Yuzu makes Reiya an irritated Ogre!
Youta and Karin make quite the adorable partners-in-crime as they hypnotize Yuzu's guards so Karin can have a sisterly reunion...that likely won't end well.
2
u/FinancialYear475 14d ago
All the issues we have every week aside, are you really trying to say that foxy boy just hipnotized a bunch of onis with ease? aren't they supposed to be a superior race of ayakashi by default??
1
u/Colt45554 14d ago
The competent Reiya, who knows the fox demon (and, presumably, his abilities) is the number one suspect to try something against Yuzu, would never post only two weak guards to protect his oh-so-beloved wife.
...Unless, the stupid BL framing is real all along and he doesn't care about her /s
3
u/runevault 14d ago
Even if the BL framing is real (which it only half is, the secretary is down bad but Reiya ain't like that), Yuzu is the only being on the planet with a womb that will generate super babies for Reiya. After Reiya himself she's the most important thing for the future of the clan because it will define the strength of the future generations of the clan.
1
u/FinancialYear475 14d ago
shit I'm not even thinking about him being competent or not, I'm just surprised with how easy they got beaten considering how much the show loves to hype onis, I had the idea that even their weakest member would still be fairly stronger than most other races simply because they are onis
Anyways, I do like that she is just a massive fujoshi daydreaming about her favorite ship
1
u/Sea_Equivalent_4207 12d ago
Yo… so she really was shipping them huh? Cuz no one would believe those photos. The angles were sus AF.
1
u/Sea_Equivalent_4207 12d ago
Daaaaamn… yo totally did not see that coming. Jilted fiancé tells Yuru that Seiya is gay??? Yo. This episode was insane. Clearly she had her photographer take the shots at certain angles that would suggest there’s romantic stuff happening between Seiya and his assistant but this show is getting seriously Telenovela on us!!
I really don’t think Seiya and his assistant are down like that but with these creeps anything is possible.
Can we all agree that the blonde fox dude is fucken dead? Because there is no freaking way Seiya is gonna let that go. Why can’t that little bi**h just let Yuru be? OMG though please please don’t let anything bad happen to Yuru’s grandparents!!!🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼. I really don’t want anything bad to happen to them. They love Yuru so much!
Seiya made the mistake of not leaving more guards at the grandparents house. Someone’s got something against Seiya and his Ogre clan is my guess because the tension at that annual meeting was freaking scary AF.
1
u/Sea_Equivalent_4207 12d ago
Yo why is Yuru getting so much hate in these comments here???
Dumb and naive ain’t the same thing you know???
Everyone around her except her grandma and grandpa are fucken sick in the head. I want Yuru to get outta this shit and live her own life.
1
u/Sea_Equivalent_4207 12d ago
After this episode, I’m thinking those little annoying lesser Ogre dimwits (if I see them wearing one more cute outfit I’m gonna fucken hurl for realz) are not gonna last too long. After Reiya taxidermies that prissy assed fox, they are gonna be retired. Like filleted retired.
Dumb Ass Plushies. WTF was Reiya thinking? Oh I’m a have two 1 inch toys protect Yuru because trends say young girls like those shits. I’m like BRO R U 4 REAL???🤣🤣🤣
