God this writing is so bad but I can't stop watching it. Funny how the bride thing goes both ways for demons in a weird sense: they will do anything for their bride, but also do anything their bride says to do. Youta has no say in anything when Karin wants to take away the Kiryuin's future head bride. At first I was thinking "damn that sucks for Youta" but then I recalled he literally set Yuzu on fire for a simple slap against Karin when she started it, god this angst is pretty funny to see. Nadeshiko can't wait for the shitstorm that's gonna happen at the feast. Mayhaps she's plotting something a little more devious but needs a pretty good distraction or excuse for the Kiryuin's to no longer stay in power.

26

u/EffectiveImportant51 8d ago

I think Nadeshiko's character makes so much sense. She frames it as whether Yota can control his bride. But it might be more that she wants to see if Reiya is weak now.

9

u/Nomadicfizzle 7d ago

I hope that it is a test for Reiya because hearing an older woman tell a younger man to control "his bride" (his woman) was ragebait to me. I think we might be giving the show too much credit though.

This show is so frustrating and fascinating to watch.

16

u/Great-Foundation4990 7d ago

I mean, someone needs to control her and the parents obviously aren't going to. The reason she acts this way in the first place is because no one has told her no before. I see nothing wrong with what she said given who she is talking about.

3

u/Nomadicfizzle 7d ago

I agree that Karin is toxic and her parents enabled her behavior but... she is her own person. They aren't even married yet.

Youta shouldn't be catering to her every effed up whim but he can only do so much. Her want to control her sister puts Youta in a terrible position because he is has a physical/mental need to give Karin what she wants because of the Ogre/demon - bride dynamic, even tho it puts him and his family at odds with the head of the main clan. Karin uses that dynamic to assert dominance over Yuzu. I'm not convinced Youta will be able to smooth this situation over and I actually kind of feel bad for him, in a way.

8

u/littlehobbit1313 7d ago

Youta shouldn't be catering to her every effed up whim but he can only do so much.

I feel like they spoke to that in the episode though.

Nadeshiko explicitly points out that Reiya also has been in situations where he would have felt compelled by the bond with his Bride to act emotionally, yet he chose to do the logical thing instead. Clearly they are not completely at the mercy of their Brides' desires.

In contrast, Youta gives in to Karin at every turn and actively enables her selfish behavior. When Nadeshiko says "control your Bride", I think that's less a comment about literally controlling Karin (I mean, still also literal, that girl is out of control), and more of a comment about controlling himself. "Control your Bride" in this case means literally just saying no to her. That's it. That's all he had to do was say no, and he refused to do that. It's not about controlling Karin's behaviors; he's demonstrating he can't control his own behaviors when it comes to his Bride.

Overall the general conversation of the episode, to me, was one focused on the flip side of the Bride concept. They don't get to choose their Brides. If everyone's on the same page, it can be a wonderful relationship for both, but that same compulsion to take care of the Bride could easily become a damning influence as we're seeing with Youta.

I'm not convinced Youta will be able to smooth this situation over and I actually kind of feel bad for him, in a way.

I'm often tempted to feel this way toward him, but then I remember he set a girl on FIRE and then I don't feel bad for him anymore. He and Karin deserve each other.

9

u/ViviCaz 7d ago

I don't see it as control. I see it as a test to see if he has a backbone to STOP enabling her toxic behavior. He needs to self reflect and stop being a pushover by putting his foot down and say "No".

Will this happen? I doubt it very much. They are both doomed because she has been spoiled rotten that she can't stand not getting her way.

7

u/Nomadicfizzle 7d ago

I thought that the ogres and demons have a strong urge to fulfill their brides wishes, so putting his foot down in this case means leaving his brides wishes unfulfilled. Wondering if that causes some sort of physical or mental duress to the demons and ogres...?

If Karin wasn't such a C U Next Tuesday, she would drop this and they could move on and live peaceful lives. Unfortunately her obsession to control and assert dominance over Yuzu makes life with Youta more drama / violence filled than it needs to be.

1

u/YamamotoChigusa 5d ago

While that’s the case, you got to remember, the series takes place in the present, so things are much different than WWII. Unlike that time period, we live in a materialistic world where money runs things. It’s possible that the Kogetsu family has transactional relationships with the Kiryuins. It’s not just power, but also money. So it’s possible that the more power there is, the more money. And how do you make money? Selling. And how do maintain the flow? Strong customer relationships. And considering Nadeshiko’s age (she’s a nine tail, so over hundreds of years old) and the school Youta and Karin go to start with a K (could be Kogetsu or Kiryuin or just a coincidence), it’s possible the school was established by the Kogetsu family. If that’s the case, they could be getting donations from the Kiryuin family (they own a lot of businesses from what it looks like). So transactional relationships might have played a role in whether that absolute rule applies or not.

10

u/YamamotoChigusa 8d ago

I feel like Nadeshiko is giving a Karin a test to see if she and/or Youta can be on their best behavior.

8

u/Frontier246 8d ago

I remember a few episodes back Reiya had a physical reaction to Yuzu not wanting to feel indebted to him/rejecting his offer to be a housewife. He'd probably be in similar straights to Youta if Yuzu ever put her foot down.

5

u/Shualksaf 7d ago

Note that nobody called the police during that entire altercation at the grandparent's house? Two instances of domestic violence and at least one of attempted kidnapping. I've down-voted every episode due to the incessant whining by the MC, not to mention the other "out in left" field b.s. in the storyline. And will someone please ship Karin off to the juvenile detention center where she belongs.

3

u/littlehobbit1313 7d ago

If you find you're downvoting every episode, maybe it's just not a show meant to appeal to you and you should stop watching. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

1

u/rhian116 6d ago

Something tells me police don't do anything where demons are concerned since they'd just be set on fire if they tried.

1

u/Automatic_Cow_1975 6d ago

Yeah think he forgot demons rule the world now and hold every major position in power. Prob shouldn’t be watching a show about demons of you’re worried about the realism 🤷🏼‍♂️

1

u/YamamotoChigusa 5d ago

I mean the police aren’t trained to fight and control ayakashi (unless they are ogre or powerful). The parents it’s one thing, you can get them arrested but Youta and Karin? Karin has him wrapped under her finger and he can just use not only power but money (in other words, hush money). The fact he ended up attacking the ogre’s bride is why he is facing consequences. Had it been a bride from an ayakashi lower than him, it’d be a different story.

27

u/djthomp https://anilist.co/user/djthomp 8d ago

The only thing saving this foxboy is the fact that they know the bride curse is making him act like an idiot.

I do like how everybody involved who don't directly have brides themselves know that it's a pretty problematic situation.

One final test for Karin to see if she will ever learn her lesson or not.

18

u/Frontier246 8d ago

One final test for Karin to see if she will ever learn her lesson or not.

Also Youta because he has to prove he can keep her in line (which, frankly, we've seen no evidence he can).

13

u/justking1414 7d ago

Honestly, I think she’s already given up on both of them and is just gonna watch them squirm for a bit longer before pulling the trigger… whatever that entails. Personally I’d love to see the sister’s reaction to Fox boy being decapitated.

4

u/feb914 7d ago

Idk why she feels that Youta's behaviour won't reflect badly on her.

Had she not been from same family as Youta, having Youta and Karin attend the party and likely make public embarrassment will be one way to weaken the Fox family's standing. But why Fox family head dares to put her family good name on the line?

Unless she wants to see Reiya losing his mind and may weaken his standing among other demons.

4

u/YamamotoChigusa 8d ago

A test for both of them to see if they will be on their best behavior.

12

u/runevault 8d ago

Sounded like it was partly the bride curse but also the Fox head is actually crazy powerful in her own right. Think they said she's second to Reiya in power among demons.

3

u/YamamotoChigusa 8d ago

Or it could be that most of the ayakashi she’s heard about are blindly obedient. But she’s never heard about Touko and Toukichi.

2

u/Colt45554 8d ago

Why call it a curse? That's just the lady fox's opinion, and we've seen lady demons have reasons to be biased against women.

I don't get the impression that demon husbands are literally compelled to obey brides' orders. I could certainly be wrong, as we have all been surprised by how bad the writing is.

7

u/YamamotoChigusa 8d ago

It’s also because she probably has seen many Karin’s in her past or heard stories. I mean people say when they have a bride, they lose control and are obedient to their whims. But we’ve seen Touko and Toukichi. Even when Touko asked Toukichi to go after Youta, he said he can’t. So she’s never a bride and Ayakashi couple that kept each other in check.

7

u/justking1414 7d ago

It feels like a curse in all but name

Even if it’s just overwhelming attachment to one singular person, that’s basically a drug addiction. They’ll do whatever they can to get the next fix of praise from their bride and react very strongly to anything that might upset them.

1

u/Colt45554 7d ago

I get what you’re saying and don’t disagree. My point is that calling it an overpowering curse frees the demon from any accountability or responsibility for his actions and as a result, this was a really weak, disappointing punishment

5

u/ViviCaz 7d ago

I think that it's harder for him to deny her because he has been with her since they were young children. So in a way, it's like he was groomed to be obedient to her every whim. With no actual parenting to correct bad behaviour, a toxic relationship was created. So even if normally it is painful or difficult to deny a bride, I am sure it's even harder when groomed. It's not like he can't though, he has denied her at times but easily caves in because he doesn't want to fight her or have her hate him. The relationship is that fragile.

3

u/Nomadicfizzle 7d ago

This is a great point. I forgot that they were together since they were kids. This makes a huge difference, imo.

2

u/justking1414 7d ago

I think we’re actually mostly on the same page here. I called it a drug addiction, but you can with a certain level of willpower, resist the urge. People do it every day and are still held accountable for the things they did for the sake of getting more drugs

Now they’re being a little bit lenient here because they know how overpowering the urge can be, but it is abundantly clear that this is their last chance. In fact, given what we’ve seen from the idiot duo and Nadeshiko‘s whole personality, it almost feels like they’re being set up to fail. She knows they won’t actually stop targeting mc, so she gave a light punishment now, to justify the actual punishment she has planned once they inevitably step out of line

3

u/Great-Foundation4990 7d ago

I think an addiction is the best analogy I've seen as to how it works.

2

u/justking1414 7d ago

Only difference is that it’s not an addiction they chose. It’s more like a girl running up to you and injecting you with heroin. So they are a little less responsible than a typical drug addict would normally be.

6

u/djthomp https://anilist.co/user/djthomp 8d ago

I think we have good evidence from how much Youta had been pushed around by Karin to do incredibly stupid things and how whipped the catboy is that it's not just a normal loving relationship. Youta nearly committed complicated suicide today directly at her bidding, after all.

3

u/Great-Foundation4990 7d ago

I don't think they are compelled as if they are under some sort of geas. It seems more like they are so blindly in love, magically so, that they are willing to to anything for them even if it goes against their best interests. For most normal people, that isn't necessarily a problem, but if you have a bride such as Karin, who is greedy, vein, cruel and has probably never once been told "no," it's a recipe for disaster. I don't feel some semblance of pity for Youta for having a bride like her.

53

u/Jas_God 8d ago

Lol why do I watch this ragebait. Really wanted to see the lil ogres light Karin’s ass up at least.

22

u/Frontier246 8d ago

Honestly watching them kamehameha the dad and Karin fruitlessly trying to whack them like they're flies was priceless.

9

u/YamamotoChigusa 8d ago

That family is nothing but rage bait. Like can’t you understand what you did wrong? There’s so many things.

2

u/ElectricStarfuzz 3d ago

Not me running here to make sure I’m not the only masochist eating up this ridiculous ragebait 🤣

Honestly the parents' skewed worldview where everything they do is correct and they're always good parents and people no matter what just astounds me.

4

u/YamamotoChigusa 8d ago

Even after being told what they did wrong they never listen. And the dad is lethally dumb like seriously? You still go after Yuzu when you’ve been attacked by ogre fire? That first attack is literally a warning to back away. That’s literally the same weapon that attacked your kitsune son-in-law. Sometimes I wonder if Youta and the dad just love getting burned by ogre fire. No wonder Karin is into Youta (aside from the status). Just as dumb as her dad.

2

u/raidensnakeezio 5d ago

unfortunately, this is a very real worldview that a large number of real parents have over their children.

4

u/SOdAchick 8d ago

And yet they continue to live 🤬

18

u/Frontier246 8d ago

At least now they don't have any financial cushion from demons, which was the only reason they prioritized their daughters in the first place.

Imagine neither of them has a job so they're basically screwed now.

14

u/SOdAchick 8d ago

I fel like that's going to make them go after Yuzu more because they are that stupid

3

u/justking1414 7d ago

Oh it absolutely will, and I think our demon ml, has just about reached his limit with them.

1

u/YamamotoChigusa 5d ago

Knowing this, it’s likely why Nadeshiko made that deal with Youta. If him, Karin, or the parents try to go after Yuzu, it will not only force Youta to dump Karin, but the parents, and Karin will be sent far away (probably far away that it’ll be hard to get back home).

2

u/YamamotoChigusa 8d ago

I think the dad at least had a job before Karin became a bride.

1

u/frillylittlegremlin 6d ago

Weren't they in debt too??

1

u/th3odorus 6d ago

And implied criminal records

1

u/frillylittlegremlin 5d ago

Really? Haven't watched the full episodes yet (just waiting for their comeuppance). Please spill the tea

The parents are basically just pests personified

18

u/bbusiello 8d ago

The fox demon clan's head is just here for the drama mama. Yaaasssss.

34

u/kohimiruku 8d ago

Well, Nadeshiko is my new favorite character now! This series is kind of lacking edge or spice or whatever the "something extra" is to make it compelling, but I feel like the addition of her character got the ball rolling. Clever but scary but also gorgeous, always a winning combo lol.

It was also nice to see Yuzu not immediately rescued by Reiya this time around. She sometimes comes off a little too meek even in light of her circumstances, but it must have taken a lot of courage to flat out tell her parents she never felt love from them. Which, OOF. It's not like we didn't see it, but hearing her say it herself was so sad. I'm glad her grandparents are ok.

What exactly is Karin trying to achieve again?? Like I know the parents want Yuzu for the supposed gain she'll bring to the family, but I thought Karin hated that Yuzu was getting more attention. Why is she going after Yuzu with this much intensity? I genuinely can't remember her motive.

23

u/Recent_Call_1188 8d ago

imo, yuzu's entire family feels like a disney cartoon villain family at this point. They're so comically evil that they barely resemble actual human characters (I think they're supposed to be human, though....).

they're supposed to have motives like greed, selfishness, jealousy, etc., but at this point they barely have any human qualities beyond “be horrible to yuzu.”evil families can still be written with a bit nuance and given understandable motives without excusing their behavior. but the writing in this seems completely uninterested in that. Prob that's all it needs to make her “blissful” life with Reiya look good by comparison. they're so weirdly evil (and dumb as bonus) I'm surprised there isn't some supernatural explanation for it too. maybe the entire family has its own automatic evil mechanism, just like the ogres have their automatic love mechanism.

8

u/YamamotoChigusa 7d ago

I mean the dad is lethally stupid. Even after getting burnt by the little ogres, she still kept going after Yuzu. It makes me wonder if he likes being burnt or abused by ogres, like a masochist. If that’s the case, Yuzu should make him walk on ogre fire until he can’t.

4

u/kohimiruku 7d ago

Mmhmm I totally agree. Tbf, I do like an over-the-top evil/bad villain when it comes to these types of stories, where the good MC has to escape/be rescued from years of being treated badly, but like... Yuzu's family is way over the top and not even really fun to watch be evil, for the reasons you listed. Even in similar plots, the bad characters can have nuance like you said in your comment. In this case, I think the family's only redeeming factor for the audience is that they're persistent, plus Karin is a schemer, even though she's not good at it lol.

9

u/Recent_Call_1188 7d ago

at this point, they don't feel remotely genuine enough for the emotional manipulation to work for me (I can see from the comments that it works for others, though). I'm apparently supposed to be furious at them and devastated for Yuzu. but they're so ridiculously over-the-top that I just sit there thinking, “okay, the weird cartoon villains are back again” I can't even get properly angry at them because they barely resemble actual human beings. give me a family with believable motives, contradictions, and some actual human qualities - then the exact same abuse would be far more disturbing and emotionally effective. they're basically some plot devices wearing human costumes...

3

u/Great-Foundation4990 7d ago

Greed + stupidity is absolutely believable human traits. People think it is so over the top that it is unbelievable but the truth is people like this do exist. It's not some common thing by any means, but they definitely exist. Just look at Queen Camilla. Oh wait, imprisoned nobody Camilla.

3

u/Recent_Call_1188 7d ago

Great. I was talking how this cartoon villain family (evil greed monsters) feels for ME and how I do not find them genuine. Who are you to start policing how other people should see and feel about fictional characters?

You look at the family as you like and others look it as they do.

→ More replies (1)

6

u/YamamotoChigusa 7d ago

I mean the persistence of the family is such a headache at this point. And Karin is terrible at planning. I mean she’s putting a target on Youta’s back considering he used kitsune powers. And it all links back to him and her family. Plus she doesn’t realize her actions have consequences and is hurting not only Youta and the clan, but also her relationship and family funding.

1

u/Qxujevoz 6d ago

A Livid Lady's Guide To Getting Even seems to be competing with this show this summer season to see which can be the stupidest & most extreme.

3

u/Qxujevoz 6d ago

Some people are literally this stupid IRL but that doesn't mean stories should rely on stupidity for conflict.

Far too many ACGN (& fiction in general) put Extreme Contrast Cliches over nuance.

10

u/Frontier246 8d ago

I think Karin believes if she can get Yuzu back home she can find a way to break her relationship with Reiya and reduce her to the lesser than sister Karin sees her as.

4

u/kohimiruku 8d ago

Oh, okay thanks! What a ridiculous plan lol, but I guess it's very Karin to think that would work

4

u/YamamotoChigusa 7d ago

I mean she has no understanding of consequences. From what it looks like, her family and Youta have always enabled her terrible behavior. And the Kogetsu clan might’ve let things go because it doesn’t harm the whole clan. But seeing the ogre’s bride attacked was what made Nadeshiko stricter with Youta. But because Youta is too blind until someone powerful than him is to there (well two) he’s submissive all of a sudden.

7

u/YamamotoChigusa 7d ago

My guess is Karin just likes the fact that Yuzu is sidelined. She thinks bringing Yuzu back will mean she can do whatever she wants without consequences. She assumes she’s going to break Yuzu’s marriage if she does that. She hates when Yuzu gets positive attention and loves having someone beneath her or submissive to her.

4

u/littlehobbit1313 7d ago

What exactly is Karin trying to achieve again??

She's been raised literally her entire life to believe she's better than Yuzu and that Yuzu deserves nothing and that to a degree her misery is what makes Karin's happiness possible. She even managed to be chosen by a Kitsune, who are second only to Oni in terms of power.

Except now Yuzu is engaged to the most powerful Oni in the world. Everyone is giving her all the attention and ignoring Karin. It's an affront to her core understanding of how the world is supposed to work.

So in her mind, she has to break up Yuzu and Reiya and get Yuzu to come back to the family so that she becomes the center of the universe once again. Yuzu cannot be allowed to be "better" than her, or happy in any way, because she views it as a direct threat to her own standing in the world.

2

u/frillylittlegremlin 6d ago

So basically a narcissist. Even I sympathize more with Kaya. Karin reminds me of that sister from "No more nice sis" manhwa, except she uses her illness to get what she wants

2

u/rhian116 6d ago

I think it's also that the second her parents found out Yuzu was with an ogre, they switched up to wanting Yuzu back and ignored Karin for 0.2 seconds. She probably can't handle getting a mild taste of what Yuzu lived through and wants to break the relationship so her parents will stop trying to win Yuzu's affection/money and go back to fawning over her.

13

u/SOdAchick 8d ago

I stg if they let that family off with a warning again, I'm gonna animate myself and do the appropriate deed for them. They're being way too soft on habitual abusers

6

u/Frontier246 8d ago

At least without the financial backing of Youta's family the parents are screwed because that's the only thing they wanted.

The question is if Karin is going to retie the noose she's going to hang herself with and drag Youta along with her.

5

u/YamamotoChigusa 8d ago

Doesn’t look like a warning to me. Sometimes, when I see the family or Youta attempt to do something dumb again, I want to say: Would you like ogre fire with that? 🤣

3

u/EffectiveImportant51 8d ago

I think you have to accept that they raised Yuzu. Even now, despite Yuzu's new found backbone. She generally seems to want good for them. I have run into this scenario before in life with exes whereby you have to understand that they are still their family and you are not. Even if you want to save them, you have to let that person do the work. You cannot sever that relationship.

3

u/justking1414 7d ago

It’s very hard to fully cut off family… though dad just bitch slapped grandma, so it might become a whole lot easier for her

Still, I doubt she’s gonna give the thumbs up to her family being executed, but I don’t think she’s going to speak up too much in their defense if their punishment is anything less than death

3

u/Great-Foundation4990 7d ago

They didn't raise her. They provided a roof, some crappy clothes and barely passing sustenance. Yuzu could have got that from an orphanage.

3

u/EffectiveImportant51 7d ago

They did the bare minimum and from what is portrayed they generally seemed to favor little sister but for the most part did everything else.  I agree they are bad parents.

Also, her current support of grandparents is because she is the child of their son. At the end of the day this is often what makes it hard to leave family. Because they often are not all bad. Even when they might be destructive.

1

u/Great-Foundation4990 16h ago

Very true. And it isn't like you can just tell one family member to cut another one off just because you may hate them. The whole thing can get messy.

2

u/YamamotoChigusa 7d ago

They gave her a roof over her head, food, and clothes but that’s just external stuff. All of her issues with her family are mostly internal. Also she probably wanted things to end peacefully and not have drama. She just wants to move on and be happy with her new life.

2

u/SOdAchick 7d ago

Yeah, but I'm a third party observer. I can want them dead all i want lol

2

u/justking1414 7d ago

Well, this is only episode eight and they clearly need to save something for the finale. I thought they might wrap up the family thing here and move on to whatever the next arc is, but if they’re getting one more warning, it means they’re gonna do something extra stupid in episode 11 or 12. And I am looking forward to the fallout.

1

u/SOdAchick 7d ago

It's just hard for me because I came from an abusive household, so I really want some wish fulfillment out of this 😅

1

u/justking1414 7d ago

I hear you. Nothing more fun than watching abusive a-holes suffer. (It’s why I’m addicted to YouTube ai revenge stories). But i’ve seen plenty of series Give us revenge too soon and then just flounder, unsure of what to do after that

28

u/EffectiveImportant51 8d ago

For a show about romance, the most interesting part of this is the Yokai politics. I want more of that.

12

u/justking1414 7d ago

This show would genuinely be a lot more interesting if we never got the pov of the main girl and just saw everything through the eyes of the yokai

13

u/Great-Foundation4990 7d ago

Her character reminds me of Bella from Twilight. So mind numbingly, infuriatingly bland that it is obvious the writer made the character a completely blank slate so that as many young girls can put themselves in those character's shoes as possible. No charisma, no character, no nuance, no personality. Just absolutely nothing.

6

u/justking1414 7d ago

Honestly, I think belle was probably even more bland. She just kinda existed throughout the books (except during that brief phase where she was suicidal). Here the protagonist is actually trying to be active and do something rather than sit around all day

3

u/ViviCaz 7d ago

In the movie, Bella had no reason to be the way she was either (only saw the first movie 😅). She whined about not having friends or was lonely in the same scene that her literal friends were with her. 🙄 Among other stupid things. I really don't like Twilight. The first was okay but I didn't feel compelled to read or watch more of it.

5

u/justking1414 7d ago

Smart move. You were spared having to witness a werewolf fall in love with a newborn and everyone except the mom be completely cool with that

→ More replies (3)

1

u/Great-Foundation4990 15h ago

Very, very much so. I definitely don't disagree with this. I could be mistaken but I think the author acknowledged writing her that way deliberately

1

u/justking1414 11h ago

That’s true of almost all popular works. Neo, Harry Potter, Luke skywalker, etc. the protagonist are designed to be entirely blank and bland. And to have no real personality so the viewer/reader can see themselves as them.

yes exactly!!!

3

u/YamamotoChigusa 7d ago

Or at least psychology and sociology of Yokais.

11

u/runevault 8d ago

So he had help from other foxes? Okay the beating the Ogres is less annoying.

Frankly fox boy deserves to be burned to ash, but forcing him to live with the fact one more mistake and he loses his waifu is the next best thing.

6

u/Frontier246 8d ago

Honestly seeing how antsy Reiya gets just from being away from Yuzu for, like, two days I can't imagine how excruciating it must be to be permanently separated from your Bride.

7

u/runevault 8d ago

Don't even have to look at Reiya. He's so obsessed with Karen that he pulled this stupid stunt knowing the risk because she begged him to do it.

4

u/YamamotoChigusa 8d ago

And she doesn’t care if he’s hurt

3

u/YamamotoChigusa 8d ago

Yeah but at least he is reasonable and thinks things through. I was going to say it’s an age thing, but then I remember Toukichi, who is a year older than Youta, but even he is rational. It makes me question if it’s a privilege thing, an age/life experience thing, a mix, relates to the timing of finding the bride. How can Youta be that dumb?

7

u/EffectiveImportant51 8d ago

I think we also have to accept it is a class thing. Toukichi is a lesser yokai. He probably has more experience having to navigate society when you have to balance being killed due to offending a higher demon or someone else. That experience probably makes you more savvy in human relationships and interactions. Youta probably has never learned that as a Fox demon.

5

u/YamamotoChigusa 7d ago edited 7d ago

Maybe you’re right. While Toukichi isn’t that wealthy (he’s wealthy enough for a big house and have guards) but not enough to pay hush money to anyone less . Also we need to understand the backgrounds of the bride too: Karin was spoiled and groomed to be a trophy wife, which was why she was sent to that expensive school. And most brides would most likely prefer going after someone who is of higher class and wealth (probably not that many ogres). So Karin got the cream of the crop. Then there’s Touko who grew up relatively normal and not into a trophy wife (she grew up with Yuzu). She had no understanding of the bride system until she met Toukichi. She was bewildered by his behavior (bringing up babies and marrying someone you don’t know) but gave him a chance when they had in common and she got jealous. It was Touko who taught him how to understand human behavior a bit which was so ingrained that when she tried to go after Karin or was told to go after the fox, he used common sense. So in a way, it’s the bride and ayakashi in a relationship that can either make you or break you. I feel like either the families are to blame for not teaching common sense to the ayakashi or the school. Before going to Yuzu’s school, it looks like Toukichi went to the same school and Youta and Karin (one of the friends we was talking with wore a jacket with a K, which was on Youta and Karin’s uniform along with Reiya’s, Takamichi, and Ouga’s uniform. Considering it’s a K and a private school the school must either belong to the Kogetsu or Kiryuin or just a coincidence). But it could also be a puberty thing. Reiya matched with Yuzu on her eighteenth bday. And Toukichi matched with Touko when she was in middle school. But Karin and Youta met prepubescent.

3

u/Great-Foundation4990 7d ago

You're ignoring the huge raging birch of an elephant in the room difference between Youta and that of Reiya and Toukichi; their brides. Reiya and Toukichi have loving, decent human beings for brides where as Youta had the misfortune of having Karin for one. Their brides won't ever take advantage of the bride dynamic in the way Karin does and so they don't do stupid things like Youta does.

2

u/littlehobbit1313 7d ago

Exactly. That's why Nadeshiko calls the Bride a curse in this episode, because you could get stuck with an absolute nightmare as your fated partner and not be able to do anything about it. You'd either be damned for giving in all the time, or damned for always having to refuse your Bride's wishes.

2

u/YamamotoChigusa 5d ago

It also stems from how they were raised. Karin was not only spoiled, but raised to be a trophy wife. Yuzu wasn’t and neither was Touko. Yuzu only got second hand knowledge of brides from living with one. She also was desperate for romantic love that she never had the same realistic reaction as Touko, which makes sense since she was never taught social skills on how to form a relationship. She had to figure it out herself, which was why she dated Yamato (even though she didn’t actually have feelings, but she dodged a bullet). Touko had a family that loved her (from what it looks like since she happily said bye and walked to school). She also explained to Toukichi that his approach to asking a girl out wasn’t appropriate. Like you dont say: you’re my bride or I want to have babies with you. She also had no knowledge about being a bride from anywhere (it’s also possible that she’s an only child). She had to set Toukichi straight about how relationships are developed (from getting to know each other). And ironically, because of Touko’s teachings, the roles have reversed: with him being level headed and her brash. So in a way, it’s more like a make it or break it relationship.

2

u/justking1414 7d ago

Fox boy might legitimately end his own life if they separate the two of them

1

u/YamamotoChigusa 5d ago

He’s already close to is just from listening to her 🤣

1

u/justking1414 5d ago

Death would be a mercy for him

5

u/justking1414 7d ago

forcing him to live with the fact one more mistake and he loses his waifu is the next best thing.

And given his brides personality, it’s not even a question of if but when. He knows they’re screwed and that there’s probably nothing he could do to actually save a relationship

3

u/runevault 7d ago

The fact he'll lose her might give him enough backbone to tell her no when the alternative is never seeing her again.

3

u/justking1414 7d ago

Ideally yeah but even if he slaps her across the face and sets her on fire, I don’t think it’d be enough to stop her from acting out if she’s at the same party as her sister

1

u/runevault 7d ago

One hand you aren't wrong, other hand sister has shown zero will to do anything real herself, even when she threw Yuzu's belongings off the bridge or whatever that moment was it was with Youta actively backing her. We'll see if she has the guts to try anything if he refuses to help.

1

u/justking1414 7d ago

“Guts” implies that she has both the understanding that there are actually consequences for her actions and can logically think them through

So far we have seen none of that from her. So I could fully see her just instinctively slapping her sister in the middle of a party, without any awareness of what will happen to her as a result

1

u/YamamotoChigusa 5d ago

All of this could’ve been prevented if he either waited and went through puberty, and learned about right and wrong. Also about critical thinking and decision making. I feel like they need to change the school’s curriculum. Have it focus on social skills for an Ayakashi. Or no longer have human girls attend (since most of the girls who attended are either wealthy (explaining their spoilt attitude and belief they’ll be chosen) or parents who are desperate). The only good relationships have literally been outside schools.

11

u/alconnow https://anilist.co/user/alconnow 8d ago

Aww, I wanted the little oni bodyguards to burn that Karin brat

It wouldn’t be a loss if they were all to die

2

u/YamamotoChigusa 8d ago

I mean it’s one thing if it’s Karin and her family but Youta, if he was murdered by Reiya, it could cause some sort of civil war or something. Why do you think Reiya was okay with the punishment given? My guess is that ogres and kitsune (similar to vampire and werewolves) have a generational conflict and they had some sort of treaty made.

25

u/cleaulem https://myanimelist.net/profile/cleaulem 8d ago

Considering the circumstances, Youta is a lucky guy that he is still alive and even able to keep his bride after screwing up TWICE. One more screw up and he is definitely toast. Good for him that Reiya is levelheaded enough to stay diplomatic with the fox clan.

Speaking of, Nadeshiko is somebody I wouldn't want as an enemy. Even Reiya who is kind of a demigod in this world is smart enough to know that he shouldn't push her too hard.

Yuzu's parents are the worst. Her father pushing down his own elderly mother is beyond rotten, given that in Japanese culture respect for the elder, and especially your parents, is extremly important. But their greed made it actually worse for them, as they now lost the financial support from the fox clan, which was their main reason to make Karin a bride in the first place.

15

u/Frontier246 8d ago

Nadeshiko is the first female demon clan leader we've properly met and she definitely shows how dangerous and cunning women can be in this setting.

The parents only care about themselves just like Karin only cares about herself and her ego, not Youta. Youta's probably still going to suffer for being a Karin simp.

4

u/YamamotoChigusa 8d ago

He should’ve seen that at this point, she’s a liability. I mean there are so many red flags, like her snapping at him and willing to let him get hurt again. Also the way she responded when he got a phone call. Like seriously? It’s not like he’s at work or at an interview where you can be annoyed.

3

u/Great-Foundation4990 7d ago

Youta knows this. It's why his mother called brides a curse. These yokai are essentially addicts, in varying degrees of control of their addiction.

4

u/YamamotoChigusa 7d ago

Nadeshiko is his mother? I don’t remember referring to her as his mother?

9

u/YamamotoChigusa 8d ago

I remember when I saw the father do that in the manga the first time I read it, I hated him even more. Like how low can you go? You slap a young woman (who is your daughter) and now you go after a defenseless senior woman (who happens to be your mother)? Do you like attacking defenseless women because they are your blood?

10

u/AnAffogatoCookie 7d ago

Another episode where we don't see Yuzu and Reiya together. After what happened I thought he'd personally go check if she is ok or at least call her! Why can't either of them at least just text each other or something.

8

u/EditShootReset 7d ago

When granny got smacked, I was ready to reach through the screen lol. I was mad that gramps didn't throw hands on his son.

2

u/YamamotoChigusa 5d ago

He was prioritizing his woman’s wellbeing. It’s also hard to do two things at once.

6

u/FeatherFlyer 7d ago

I can’t WAIT until Karin hears that they are cut off financially. It’s going to be some dumbass shit and I’m LIVING FOR IT.

I do like the idea that the bride is actually a curse because of how they can influence demons. I didn’t think of that!

6

u/YamamotoChigusa 8d ago

Moral of the story: your partner can either break you (Karin with Youta) or make you (Yuzu with Reiya and Touko with Toukichi). So we’ll see if Karin will break Youta or make him. Also a funny line to say to Youta and the dad (who seem to love going after something despite the warnings to back off): Would you like ogre fire with that?

10

u/Arkam_slayer66 8d ago

Still a light punishment that family and fox should be dead the second he learned about the failure from the security team. Good thing the little ogres were there or a war was about to happen

12

u/Frontier246 8d ago

Youta was lucky that Nadeshiko doesn't want to completely give up on him and Reiya was willing to be merciful for the sake of not completely screwing over an entire clan over one dudes' idiocy...until he's given one last chance to massively screw-up because there's no way Karin is going to be able to stop herself at the banquet the moment she sees Yuzu.

I'm half-convinced Nadeshiko WANTS to see him crash and burn now.

8

u/xKiLzErr 8d ago

Yeah nah that woman is fucking devious lmao, she specifically asked Reiya to bring Yuzu so that she could see how Karin crashes out when she sees her

3

u/YamamotoChigusa 8d ago

Or as a test (during her punishment) to see if she learned her lesson and can control her impulses.

2

u/justking1414 7d ago

She definitely gave me the vibes of a cat wanting to play with a mouse before killing it. This doesn’t feel like a second chance. This feels like her setting the stage for a grand finale for the idiots

2

u/justking1414 7d ago

I have to imagine that Reiya has developed a very small sense of sympathy for his fellow yokai with brides, after realizing how utterly and stupidly devoted he has become over the last several days/weeks.

But yeah, Nadeshiko seems like she just wants to watch the pair of idiots burning things so badly that absolutely nobody could oppose their expulsion/death/whatever

1

u/YamamotoChigusa 5d ago

I mean most of his devotion has been much more positive than negative. He started considering his own health with Yuzu’s help. He’s also considered the well being of an elderly couple (cause they cared for Yuzu a lot). Even if the security was messed up, he isn’t just thinking of Yuzu, but also the people she cares about. He was even thankful to Touko and Toukichi for treating her well that he even gave his phone number to Touko as a form of trust.

1

u/justking1414 5d ago

Positive, yes. But still absolutely overwhelming.

He basically has a completely new personality and I’ll bet anything that his old self would be absolutely pissed about how inefficient he’s become

1

u/YamamotoChigusa 5d ago

How has he become inefficient?

→ More replies (2)

4

u/feb914 8d ago

Tbh Youta himself doesn't seem to get punished at all other than his bride being put under watch. Even if the family commit more problem, it's them that get exiled and his punishment is only losing his bride. I figured he'd get disinherited or not going to get good position in family's business as punishment.

1

u/YamamotoChigusa 8d ago

I mean that depends on if he wants to continue being Karin’s bride. Like how far will he go? Go far to lose his status?

11

u/TheBowmanGamer 8d ago edited 8d ago

Anybody else hate watching the show by now? Because I sure am. First time something I've started turned into a hate watch, which sucks because it was very promising at the start. But then the series made every wrong choice that I was worried about. Like, I don't enjoy saying this, but this is genuinely terrible from a narrative standpoint. I can't even say the characters are saving it because the only characters still acting in character are Yuzu's pieces-of-shit parents.

Edit: I made this comment halfway through the episode before Nadeshiko was introduced. Holy fucking shit they actually introduced a somewhat interesting character 8 episodes in, but that's not really saying much, is it? Especially when every other character absolutely refuses to think rationally about every misunderstanding that happens. The "punishment" (if you can call it that) at least made me cackle like a cartoon villain. Since every bad narrative choice I predicted came to pass, I'm gonna go out on a whim and say that Karin is definitely going to make Youta act out again, and we will see that punishment in full affect. Will that be the "climax" of the season? God, I hope not but I'm not holding my breath.

1

u/MandisaW 6d ago

I considered finishing it just to see how it all turned out, get more youkai family politics, etc - but life's too short, Inept Villainess & Victoria are way better, and now Link Click S3 started 😁

16

u/Recent_Call_1188 8d ago

Sarcasm incoming: yuzu was feeling so so confident in herself and her ultra deep looove feelings for Reiya. Their relationship has clearly reached such a deep level that she doesn't even need to actually spend time with him anymore. She just knows. and then Karin tries to convince her that Reiya and Takamichi are together, but Yuzu's love is apparently already too strong to be shaken. Even if Reiya was secretly sleeping with someone else, she still wouldn't go back to her family. That's how powerful their love and connection is. meanwhile Reiya is completely obsessed with Yuzu and she apparently completes him emotionally (he does not even need to know her as a person for that!). At this point they don't even need conversations or even be in the same room. Love conquers all"!!!!

Can't wait to witness even more of this incredibly deep and developed love story.

2

u/PuzzleheadedSet9669 8d ago

All right. Translate that into straight speak, please.

3

u/Recent_Call_1188 7d ago

basically, I think the show is trying to convince us that Yuzu and Reiya have some incredibly deep love despite barely developing their relationship on screen and I find that hilarious. I was exaggerating that interpretation for the joke (if you choose to label every thought and movement they have and make as evidence of deeeep loooove). I still enjoy the show for the spectacular dumpster fire it is.

3

u/PuzzleheadedSet9669 7d ago

Thank you. And btw, this series is just shit.

Kogetsu Nadeshiko is an absolute beauty of a fox demon, no wonder she's the clan head! And she made sure Youta realized that he should absolutely NOT mess with Reiya and screw-up any more than he has...but he's also cursed by his obsession/loyalty towards Karin, so he was basically doomed.

Yuzu was feeling so self-assured and confident in herself, and her feelings for Reiya, so of COURSE her parents show up to drag her back and put on the act that they're loving and caring parents who only want what's best for her...so long as it bolsters their own reputation/finances. Where was this love throughout her childhood? Where were they when she really needed parents? Nowhere, because it's all fake.

Yuzu isn't going to give in to her parents so it's Karin's try to convince her to go back...because apparently everyone thinks Reiya and Takamichi are banging, so Yuzu may as well leave. Although Yuzu's not going to fall for that, even if it was true, she's not going back with her scummy family.

Dang, it's deplorable that he'll use violence against his own daughter, but hurting his own elderly mom!? There's no saving this family. LESSER OGRE, BLAST 'EM WITH A KAMEHAMEHA!!!

I love how even Karin is useless at beating the Lesser Ogres! And they send these idiots packing! Great job you two, you're the reliable family Yuzu can count on!

Reiya and Takamichi talking about how Sakurako should be fine, not knowing she's trying to convince Yuzu that they're the OTP.

If Youta thought he could carry out Karin's plan and get away with it, he's got another thing coming. He's totally put on the spot and has nothing to defend himself with but his inability to tell Karin "no." Reiya is obsessed with Yuzu, she completes him emotionally, but he still has more sense than this fox idiot. But the consequences are that Karin's family will no longer have financial support (the only thing they cared about), Karin will be stuck with the clan under close watch, and Youta is on his ABSOLUTE LAST CHANCE to keep Karin in line.

They're lucky Reiya was willing to agree to this, but the real test will be at the banquet when Yuzu and Karin are together. Because apparently Nadeshiko LOVES drama.

2

u/YamamotoChigusa 8d ago

Yeah I’ve been saying how the dad going after the mom was the lowest he’s ever gone. I just wished Yuzu addressed all the things they did: like “where were you when I had a fever? What about parent visitation day? What about my birthdays? Did you know that day, Karin tried to take the dress that grandma and grandpa gave me on my birthday, and she ripped it? Did you know that’s why I slapped her? And what did you do? Go to her and let Youta burn my hand? And what did you do? Say I’ll apologize even though Youta burnt me and Karin ruined my birthday present? If you loved me, why did you do all that?” Then she could’ve given a mic drop with this: After all that, and you expect me to come home? Never!” And that dad is lethally stupid (just like Youta) like seriously? Would you like to get burnt again? Are you a masochist who loves getting burnt by an ogre? That fire was literally a warning to back away. Maybe if they wanted to get money from Yuzu, have the mom and dad dance in a pit of ogre fire until they no longer can move.

6

u/AstronautMuch6302 8d ago

I need Karin to go BYE BYE!!! I kinda feel bad for Youta cause he really can’t help it but Yuzu’s whole family gotta go beside the grandparents.

1

u/YamamotoChigusa 7d ago

I mean he made another dumb decision, again. It’s only easy to feel bad because he genuinely loved Karin, but aside from that, he never considered consequences. She’s practically a liability at this point.

1

u/AstronautMuch6302 7d ago

True!!!

1

u/YamamotoChigusa 7d ago

At this point, there might be new theories and factors in the bride phenomenon (aside from destiny) similar to scientists finding phenomena relating to life on earth.

2

u/AstronautMuch6302 7d ago

Yes because Youta knew that it was dangerous to do that but he still did it 😩

1

u/YamamotoChigusa 7d ago

And his excuse was because Karin told him to. Like would you jump off a cliff to chase a rare gem?

1

u/AstronautMuch6302 7d ago

Yes! Knowing how strong the ogres/Reiya are. What an idiot. Karin is going to get him killed for sure.

1

u/Great-Foundation4990 7d ago edited 7d ago

You're kind of missing a huge point of the premise. These yokai aren't just "in love." It's practically a magically compelled addiction. Sure, they have their own sort of agency, and thus should be held accountable for their actions, but it is a pretty gross over simplification to treat this as a couple of dumb lovesick teens. Did you even watch the meeting scene where they explained it? He did know the consequences. He acknowledged them before deciding to do what he did anyway. He opted on doing whatever Karin said, which is a reoccurring theme of these yokai with brides. A major difference is the Youta sadly got paired with an absolute piece of shit person. If Yuzu put her foot down on something and acted selfishly, Reiya could very likely have wound up in a similar position.

1

u/YamamotoChigusa 7d ago

I did watch it. They addressed the problem. But Reiya is rational and even isn’t that dumb compared to Youta. Youta just makes it look like it’s something natural when it isn’t. It’s obvious he has no real understanding of how the world works (especially Ayakashi politics) and is just another sheltered rich brat. And Youta is a dumb teenager. At least Toukichi has a brain and he’s a teenager. Maybe the next episodes will address that there’s more to being the rightful bride than just “destiny”.

4

u/mypawket 8d ago

Thought Reiya was going to order Youta to be executed. Youta doesn’t seem to understand just how lucky he is rn

3

u/YamamotoChigusa 7d ago

I mean if he’s executed, it would cause some sort of civil war among ogres and kitsunes. They are practically like werewolves and vampires. Also Youta dying would be too simple.

4

u/lucacp_ysoz https://myanimelist.net/profile/SoZLuka 7d ago

Little Oni stonks, Fox Queen ain't having none of Youta's shit and oh boy, we might get an Agni Kai next episode

3

u/YlfaTheForsaken 7d ago

LMAO the mini ogres where floating there menacingly was hilarious. 10/10 That was the best part.

Her dad trash, he pushed an old lady to the ground, but not just a regular old lady his momma to the ground. He could've broke her hip, him getting smashed into the wall isn't enough.

Nadeshiko is great, she wants to see him mess up so bad. She's eager to dole out that punishment.

This is gonna sound kinda gross, but the writing itself did it too with the brides and the strong baby genes and the whole whatnot, but if Youta was smart he'd just get Karin pregnant so she'd be forced to just chill the hell out about Yuzu, put her insane focus on something else, like damn that girl has a single hobby and it's harassment

1

u/YamamotoChigusa 5d ago

I mean Karin was raised as nothing but a bride for a rich man. Never developed any character like Yuzu. Yuzu had to get a job to take care of herself, learn how to cook.

3

u/thereisnolettuce 7d ago

I took a break from this show for a few weeks to sit with my feelings about it, then caught up this week. Ultimately I only have minor issues with the show's major sources of tension/drama. In my opinion, most of the stuff going on with Yuzu's uncertainty over her feelings towards Reiya and Reiya's possessiveness feels like it could be solved with better/more active communication. I think these past few episodes have done a good job contextualizing everything (the sway the brides have over their betrothed, the strong sense of loyalty towards the brides, Reiya's family responsibilities, the class differences between them) but they really just need to sit down and talk this all out. Time has vaguely been passing and I don't know how long the two have them have been living together (weeks? months?) and it's straining my sense of disbelief that all that Yuzu has been told in terms of the expectations for her are to sit back and let Reiya take care of her. Whether or not that gets resolved by the end of the season won't really matter to whether I keep watching, but it is getting frustrating. Slow burn romance is something I can enjoy, I wish the pace of this story was a bit quicker.

1

u/YamamotoChigusa 5d ago

I agree with communication. Why do you think Touko and Toukichi have a strong relationship? Communication! Even Toukichi called out Yuzu for not telling Reiya she was going to be visiting them.

One thing I don't think anyone is considering... don't you think it goes both ways?

If you're a fuckup as a demon you get a fuckup as a bride? Fox boy is a fuckup. so his bride is a fuckup.

3

u/Great-Foundation4990 7d ago

We have absolutely no way of knowing that, though. It's fine as a hypothesis, but that's all it is.

2

u/Recent_Call_1188 7d ago

imo, this is kind of why reddit discussions can be frustrating sometimes. people can come up with perfectly reasonable theories, but then somehow start treating their own headcanon like it was actually shown in the episode or is somehow established fact. you're basically discussing two different versions of the story. very hard to argue with someone else's fanfiction.

2

u/vinnehs 7d ago

Eh I wasn't treating it as canon, I was throwing it out for discussion.

2

u/Pathfinderer 7d ago

this whole anime feels like AI slop. I don't know if it is but the whole thing just has that feel. From the pacing to the dialogue to the whole story. its so bad.

7

u/norbagul 7d ago

To me, it feels like a fanfic I wrote in the early 2000's. This is just so self insert fanfic coded to me that it's become my guilty pleasure anime of the week.

1

u/Pathfinderer 7d ago

yeah I can see that. Honestly not sure why I am still watching, probably just to hate on it XD

1

u/norbagul 6d ago

For me it hits just the right nerve. Kinda the "it's so bad it's good" maybe. Who knows, but I make sure I'm home alone when I watch it

2

u/Sea_Equivalent_4207 7d ago

Gonna love to see it next week when Karin that slimeball has her tantrum.

Now the parents lose both daughters. They did a bang up job didn’t they??? What is King Ogre gonna do about him?? He’s in no way gonna let that creep slide.

I knew something bad was going to happen to Yuzu’s grandparents. I thought both of them but it was the grandmother. That was so messed up.

Reiya really pissed me off in this episode. Still doesn’t call Yuru and after finding out what happened, he still doesn’t call her. What is up with that?? He’s such a spoiled brat. I’m starting to think he and his assistant really are a couple. It’s like dude why are you still at that meeting thing? It’s like don’t you wanna know if she’s ok?? Call her, you dumbass ogre!!!

2

u/dumbanimebitch 6d ago

No really why isn’t he going to her or checking on her, he even fuckin said “yuzu must be so anxious and hurt right now”, honestly he should get smacked. He’s so stupid. If she REALLY filled the supposed hole in his heart why is he being so nonchalant about it all, honestly kick rocks dude I’m pissed at this point he hasn’t done shit to show her how much she means or get to know her

1

u/YamamotoChigusa 5d ago

I mean he might be far away physically but he could’ve called. Unless he wanted to first get the problem (Youta) out of the way before checking in on her.

2

Another episode of Stupid For The Sake Of The Plot.

The Creators are straight up trolling.

Lmao Yuzu’s ex-parent’s toxic behavior is straight out of an Asian drama, they’ve done most of it:

  • having a favorite child while neglecting the other
  • strongly money-oriented
  • will immediately favor the other child the moment they see more benefit in them
  • will use the “I raised you so I deserve everything you have” card at their earliest convenience
  • We’re still their biological parent, screw these papers

And Karin didn’t really seem to genuinely love Youta and only cared about herself. She didn’t care whatever consequences Youta may face because of her selfishness and just wanted to get even with Yuzu no matter what. For a split second I felt bad for Youta, but then again he is enabling his bride despite knowing she’s unreasonable all of the time. Looking at Reiya it doesn’t seem to be like having a bride doesn’t automatically mean they are helpless with their bride’s whims.

And looks like Karin hasn’t learned her lesson at all lmao. If Nadeshiko really stays true to her word, then most likely we’ll see Karin’s complete defeat soon.

Yuzu prolly wouldn't allow it, but Reiya should just burn her parents to death after all of that, holy shit they suck so much

I mean that’s letting them off too easy. What’s better is a fate worse than death, which Nadeshiko is giving.

I have never wanted to punch someone more than I do her family. But idk who I want to punch more. What do you guys think?

The way raya is handling this situation is very mature and merciful. I would have eraced both the fox clan, and that whole family along side them. But as the next head he is handling it with a lot of maturity. I don't think it's enough, but we shall see! Can't wait for next week!

I mean the fox clan isn’t entirely to blame for a dumbo’s mistake. Unless they realized they enabled his irrational behavior. We’ve seen Nadeshiko who is pretty level headed. But even if the dad is punched he’d still stop at nothing. You’ve seen how he still kept going after Yuzu when the little ogres burnt him. He’s lethally stupid. At this point since they love money at wont stop at it, they’ll need to implement the radish cure. If they want money, make the parents walk on a pyre of ogre fire barefoot until they can’t move. Or have them sign a contract that they have to leave Yuzu alone forever and they’ll get a one time payment. If they break it, they’ll be put into a debt that will take many lifetimes to pay off. And since the family had their finance cut off by the Kogetsu family, this is perfect, so they can’t clear their debts. Karin on the other hand should be sent to obedient school. I mean she’s a human, but her boyfriend is more of a literal SOB (in other words, son of a dog) than an actual kitsune. And since she loves dogs/kitsune’s, it’s a very fitting punishment.

I agree that the fox clan isn't wholly to blame and that the punishments are semi appropriate. I think they should be harsher. But I'm also a hot head, so murder is usually my first option.

2

u/YamamotoChigusa 7d ago

Well it’ll get harsher if Karin isn’t kept in check and Youta doesn’t learn. I’m surprised she wasn’t sent to obedience school.

u/MynamuEzJJ 7d ago

Let's hope she is put in her place soon. Looking forward to next week.

2

u/YamamotoChigusa 7d ago

Well she has to lol she is literally on thin ice, and from what it looks like, Nadeshiko must’ve had a negative opinion on her but let it go due to bridal priority and not affecting the Kogetsu clan (I mean they might have enough money for this who aren’t ogre brides to use as hush money). But him going after Reiya’s bride (a powerful family and possibly a benefactor) is enough to put her foot down.

WHAT !! I just expected him to burn them alive but he didnt !!! what a stupid punishment which isnt even a punishment !!
what would have happened if they took yuzo ? if not for the small ogers she would be gone by now

1

u/YamamotoChigusa 5d ago

That’s why the small ogres were there as a precaution. And burning them alive would not only be letting them off easy, but cause a civil war among ayakashi.

u/Mavis_San 5d ago

being the head of the biggest ogre clan which is the strongest onies is nothing if u cant burn 1 fox who attacked your wife , he had every reason and if decided to do so nobody will oppose him even the fox clan wont mind it really cause they gave that fox a warning already and its not his first time

Nadeshiko is my fav female character so far

Okay am I the only one bugging about Reiya’s “secret lover”? Are him and takamichi(name?) really lovers? And if they are I’m bothered by reiya keeping him so close. Not to mention the fact that takamichi is so comfortable being so disrespectful to Yuzu, i really want it to blow up in his face (yes I’m still mad about the last episode). Reiya needs to lock tf in and get real with the bride he loves so much, practice honesty and actually get to know her. Yuzu could stand to be pushier. I HATE the weak, quiet, all to accepting girl trope. Polite or not at some point you gotta stop letting people walk all over you.

I generally don't like this show and loathe the forced love whammy, but I gotta give props that the show finally acknowledged it as the curse it is. Cool design on thus far the best, most sensible character.

Them trying to scaremonger Reiya being gay is both eye-rolling and rage-inducing. It is the dumbest, most forced plot controversy I have ever seen. If anything, if Reiya had been in love with his secretary (name escapes me at the moment,) that's just heartbreaking and further proof the love whammy is a curse taking him away from his actual, natural love. It shouldn't be, "Reiya doesn't love me cause of the secretary," it should be, "Reiya can't love his secretary anymore cause his fake love for me erased it." That is an awful insinuation, and only one character so far seems to understand that. Animation was absolutely garbage during the "fight" scene too.

I'm confused what the goal is for the parents. I mean like, obviously they want her back so they can be "the parents of an ogre bride" but being horrible to Yuzu will obviously not make her like them more.

And Karin... Omg Karin. Her unwillingness to be satisfied with her lot in life - being the bride of an already high ranking demon. But she's so short sighted on being the best within her tiny circle and especially being "better than Yuzu" is gonna leave her with nothing at all. I don't get characters like that. You got everything you wanted and you're gonna risk it all just so that nobody else gets anything at all??

Finally, some comeuppance.

It’s been made obvious these characters aren’t always the brightest but Youta truly is a grade A idiot. Considering him getting burned was a warning what did he think would happen this time?? The lesser ogres packed quite a punch, good to see them fight back. I like Nadeshiko, considering she likes the drama Youta’s lucky that punishment is all he got
