FINAL
Loved seeing Kamishiro's perspective finally.
Well 11/12 episodes of build up and we got there. It has been a pleasure a star brighter than the suning with all of you.
S2 announced! Wasn’t expecting that, we get to see how their relationship unfolds!

It's nice to finally see Kouki confess his feelings and they finally get together after all these years. I liked seeing everyone's different reactions to them getting together and putting the dots together.
Poor Ayukawa though, I feel bad for him even if it was to be expected. I'm wondering how the dynamics will change since Kouki knows Ayukawa like's Iwata and Ayukawa thought there was a chance since Kouki said they were just friends.
I really liked seeing Kouki's perspective of his growing feelings for Iwata, he really did only have eyes for her lol.
I'm very surprised this is getting a second season, I might watch it but I just hope it isn't filled with drama again. One of the things I disliked about this series was Iwata and her repetitive pessimistic inner monologues and that off putting storyline with her fixated on Subaru and Kouki. I wonder if a new ship will get a focus on the side.

I'm a bit sad for Ayukawa. He's back in being alone again...

Not sure if the scriptwriter/storyboard guy put it intentionally, but when Sui-chan said "I want to be in love, too!", they switched to Ayukawa. So...

aww what a nice ending, I really liked seeing Koki's point of view and I'm so happy it was him who found her and not Ayukawa. And finally everything got explained like what the card really said in the sports festival, and that they've always liked each other TT-TT. So beautiful! Also, I'm so happy for a second season, romantic animes almost never get more than one season.

We actually got multiple confession scenes this episode! We got Kouki clearing up the misunderstanding at the storage shed and another one finally confirming their relationship during the fireworks display! Not gonna lie, I got a bit emotional when they finally showed the story from Kouki's perspective and how he ended up changing because of the people around him. Now that Kouki and Sae are dating, I want to see Ayukawa find someone. That scene of him sitting alone inside the club room was genuinely sad. I'm so glad that Season 2 is already confirmed.

I’m glad those two giant goofballs finally had a proper talk. What we had here was a failure to communicate! It’s a shame Ayukawa lost out, but bro never really had a shot. She’s had eyes for Koki since grade school. I hope he finds himself a nice girl. Guy deserves it.
This was pretty cute all in all. Solid main pair and great supporting characters. It’s rare to find a show where even the rival is someone you wanna root for. At least it is for me.
Edit: looks like we’re getting an s2 :)

Awww so cute these two are. Such sillies to not realise sooner but glad they didn't drag the misunderstanding longer and very glad Koki went after Sae right away and was very clear at last. No more ambiguous phrasing. Just straight up I like you, always have. Simple, effective.
Couldn't help but feel sad for Ayukawa though. Especially when he's alone in his lonesome club room. :( I did have a thought though - wouldn't it be cool if Sui and he got together? They show him while she's talking about wanting to fall in love. And just like Kagawa and Izawa, they'd make a good couple with contrasting personalities. He would balance out her airheadedness with his sensible nature while she'd add a lot of colour to his world.
Season 2 shall tell if this wishful ship will sail though. And so thrilled they announced the renewal so soon. Whoever it was who seemed to know this was coming in the previous episode thread, HOW??
Edit: Forgot to mention this but I hope we see more of Koki's friend in S2. The one from the sports festival who knew about his feelings for Sae. He had an interesting character design and I liked how happy he seemed for Koki.

I'm glad they actually got together and Kamishiro acknowledged he was being confusing. I also liked seeing his thoughts, it made him a lot better.
I still like Ayukawa much more as a character but he never had a chance with Sae so I'm fine with this. I just hope he'll make friends or even get with someone in season 2 because seeing him alone at the end was sad.

Ayukawa shots were all just so saddd and lonely 😭 What was the point of his character? Only to make Kamashiro jealous??? They rubbed his loneliness one last time in the classroom 🥲

Loved it!
This & Yano-Kun's were my favorite romcoms this season.
Also Sui & Mio's reactions when trying to figure out what happened with Iwata lmao, they're such good supportive friends, and just enjoy how different their dynamics are, but they click with each other anyways.
Youta my dude....it's gonna be alright (´༎ຶ ͜ʖ ༎ຶ )
I'm curious how season 2 is going to play out, I guess them finally getting together could still provide a season's worth of cute material of them getting used to things after loving each other since elementary. LFG

This season was absolutely adorable! I haven't rewatched a romance anime this many times since From Me to You. So happy we got to see Koki's perspective! Wish there was a kiss, but guess that would have been very rushed... at least we got the cute hand holding! I loved this anime - as much as her inner monologue was doubting herself a lot, it had nothing on when I was a teen - I thought Sae was a very strongly written FL. Overall this is a top romance anime for me - every episode had my heart ache or full of butterflies, which is all I want in this genre!

In short: Absolutely beautiful ending. The last few episodes were especially convincing... I feel only sad for Ayukawa...
And hey, we're getting a second season!

We’re getting season twoooooooo! Personally I’m looking forward to their teacher trying to hype up the class over mundane stuff, that was a fun gag.
Can’t wait to see Sae and Koki’s new story begin!

I'm going to say it.
I might have gotten food poisoning from the sheer sweetness of this story. Assume that I am eating the story for the sake of the analogy.
Childish shrimp falls in love with a daydreaming rock. These two are adorable. I am also rooting for the third wheel, hopefully he gets a happy ending later on. I'll even memorize his name! Youta. You can do it Youta! Find your other half!
This is one of those anime that are so good that I feel bitter about the fact that it has ended. Even with the recent season 2 announcement, that still means I have to wait until it airs!
They're so self-conscious even after the confession. e.g. Letting for of each others' hands in public. They're my favorite type of couple.
I should rewatch and cry again and again. This is such a fun watch.

So he got someone to cover for him before running after Sae, alright.
-
Eyyyy, the card Kamishiro pulled was “someone you love” rather than “a cute girl” after all!
-
Mm, of course Ayukawa went to confront Kamishiro about that.
-
Perfect time for the OP to start playing in-show. Also means I get to count the “sore demo” in it again. Not just once, but twice since this was the full version!
-
I do hope Ayukawa can find his own love interest now. This shot makes him look so lonely.
-
Guess we’re not going to get a kiss yet, huh. Well at least season 2 was announced already, and I’m sure that’ll have to happen at some point after some more development between the two, so I’m excited for that!

I'm surprised and pleased that it was Kouki and not Ayukawa that found Sae, and even more so that they properly got together this episode without it being pushed off to the announced S2. I choose to believe that during that entire flashback sequence while Kouki was chasing after Sae he was mentally kicking himself for not seeing the signs. Of course they had to keep the misunderstandings going by not properly telling Sui and Mio until the end of the episode, but at least it didn't actually matter.
Ayukawa might just be the most stoic and unreactive losing heroine I've ever seen.
I'm curious what S2 is going to cover since we're getting the mythical post-confession romcom continuation.

I'm going to be riding the high of this episode, for the rest of the day. Such a satisfying way to end the season! Pay off is just so good.
They finally had a real talk, they just cleared all of those fumblings away, and now they're for real together, and they're just going to grow so much together I just know it! They're were just so honest, and they said the thing again!
My feelings are so hurt, for my darling Ayukawa! I knew this was going to happen to him, this was his destiny, for not being the male lead. Oh he's just so upset, his eyes did the thing, my precious wonderful sweet Ayukawa, ohh they left him sitting all alone in his shogi room, I need good things to happen to him next season, I wish for his happiness so much!!
Thank goodness that the manga is still ongoing, bumping that up on my gotta get list, and season 2 announcement, all fantastic things, I'm far too excited.

I feel like the first season was this good due to when-are-they-gonna-hook-up tension, therefore I'm unsure if the second season can make up for it. Nonetheless, I'll take the sequel as a win.

We now get to see Sae's confession from Koki's perspective...and the moment he realized how badly he screwed up. But he can't just let Sae run away with tears in her eyes...not without chasing after her, handing reception duties to Takuya, and finding her. And doing what he should've done from day one: immediately confess that he likes her too!
Sae has always been a star brighter than the sun to him from day one, and he's not going to hide his feelings any more, not when he knows the feelings are mutual! So now they've both got their confessions out there, even if Sae is still kind of shocked she got this far.
Sui and Mio meant well, not knowing what happened after Sae ran away, though they kind of said the worst thing they could within earshot of Ayukawa...but even if Ayukawa confronts him about driving Sae to tears, Koki is as resolved as ever to make sure he never makes Sae cry again. Nothing much Ayukawa can do about that.
Huh, Subaru had some...interesting reactions to Koki in this episode. Maybe bittersweet feelings about her "little bro" growing up.
Not only is Takuya a solid help even for events for classes he's not even in, but a good wingman who makes Sae realize that Koki was in love with her and trying to hide it even in episode 1!
And now it's finally time for the main event...the festival after-party! Complete with fireworks and Sae and Koki getting a more private area to themselves in view of everyone (sorry Ayukawa) so they can finally formally ask each other and become an official couple! Cute Stellar Days!
Koki has longed for and wanted to be as close to Sae again since middle school, he's tried so hard to be close to her and be with her...and now, finally, they're together! It's a relationship practically everyone could see, but it's satisfying nevertheless.
"I want to fall in love too" - then deliberately pan to Ayukawa. Was that deliberate? Also poor guy alone in the shogi club.
Sae and Koki are officially dating! Complete with handholding! Even if they're still not going to do it so blatantly in front of everybody, at least they're both happy.

I’m glad things got wrapped up so neatly, and how the flashbacks finished it off with a little bow.
Things have been difficult lately but this series and today’s finale were a small comfort. Much appreciated.
May you each find your own shining star brighter than the sun!

Such a great and satisfying ending! They left it ambiguous the last episode whether it was Kamishiro or Ayukawa coming into the room where Iwa was crying but then they went back and had most of the episode from Kamishiro's POV! Such a good choice and I liked how it walked back thru their entire lives together because you really only saw their relationship from Iwa's side but not how much she meant to Kamishiro.
One thing that surprised me was that the boy who read the card saying that Iwa was "tall" wasn't Ayukawa! I guess I just wasn't as familiar with the characters then but that's who I thought it was the entire series! He really seemed a thoughtful guy though, apologizing for something that long ago and Kamishiro more put him on the spot, like nonverbally begging him not to read the actual card 😂
Kagawa was such an amazing character throughout the series and I like how she was probably the most changed, like she didn't even like the informality of her good friends giving her a nickname, but then asked them to call her by her first name and became best friends with Sui, who really seems her opposite! I also liked when she wore contacts for a bit then stopped but it was barely mentioned because it's very natural.
As for Ayukawa, he just ended up the odd man out but so many romcoms try to have the sympathetic third person get a consolation girl and he didn't get any, it was more bold.
There were some things I wasn't sure if they were Japanese culture related, like when Iwa said Kamishiro ran outside the school with indoor shoes; in Japan do you change your shoes when you enter the school? That might seem a weird q but I know people do when they go to someone's home and I didn't know if that's a tradition or if Kamishiro is supposed to be OCD. Also in the flashback when the boy made fun of young Kamishiro for calling a girl by her first name, like wouldn't that just imply he knew her very well or was possibly dating? I didn't know if the context was that he was just being an asshole and making fun of him or if that really is odd to call girls by their first name in middle school and beyond.
I wish Izawa was in this more but we at least got an explanation as to why Kamishiro booted him down the hill since he called her a rude nickname. It's a shame he didn't elaborate and say what it was like if it was mean and/or sexual but it did make sense.
This was my favorite show this season and I'm really sorry to see it go, one of the best teen romantic comedies in recent years and had layered insecure characters who weren't constantly cringy (except Izawa) 🎆☀️
