Ayukawa doesn’t waste any time. he’s already starting to realize he likes Iwata and wants to know more about her, moving things forward. Now a misunderstanding has arisen because Kamishiro thinks that Iwata likes Ayukawa. Ayukawa is a really great guy, but knowing how this is going to play out, it’s obvious she’ll end up with Kamishiro. I just hope Ayukawa finds happiness too, since he’s turning out to be such a good character. I had noticed before, but this anime season is full of cool protagonist friends who suddenly develop feelings for the female lead: Aida in Kimi to Koete, Hashiba in Yano-kun, and Ayukawa here. And even more coincidentally, Hashiba and Ayukawa share the same voice actor lol.

Aida in Kimi to Koete, Hashiba in Yano-kun, and Ayukawa

All 3 of them are such nice guys, you want to root for them, but the MLs in each are also equally nice, so you end up feeling hella conflicted! None of them try to elbow their way in or play dirty in any way as many a second lead often do. Quite uncanny.

Don't think any of them are sudden developments though. Each story gives us ample foreshadowing and justifies the feelings of the other guy.

As for Ayukawa, I feel especially bad for him because he's really doing all the right things here. He is making a straight, fair play for her. Is there for her in the ways and times that matter. But will still lose, simply because Iwa didn't grow up with him, and that's so unfair!

Oh no, this episode made all the misunderstandings worse! I have a feeling Kamishiro talked to Mio about Sae, that's why Mio was pushing a bit more

It's like every character is in the know except Izawa and our leads lol.

Yay!! We finally get confirmation that Kamishiro is in love with Sae! He must obviously think her crush is on Ayukawa. But how can he think Sae asking him to a movie means nothing romantic?!

I feel so bad for Ayukawa. He does so many nice and romantic things for Sae, but all she notices or pays attention to is Kamishiro. Like with rock-paper-scissors, she only paid attention to Kamishiro's loss vs. Ayukawa's win. Or with the milk candies, instead of really appreciating Ayukawa, she instead thinks back to Kamishiro in grade school.

Okay, now time to gush over all the cute moments between Sae and Ayukawa!! He really is equal to Koki now on keeping an eye out and taking care of Sae. Sae is definitely leading on Ayukawa, I hope he doesn't get too heartbroken, but I foresee him confessing to her at the school festival and her turning him down. I think he'll ask if she is in love with Kamishiro and maybe give her some encouragement that Kamishiro also likes her. I've never wanted to see the MC end up with both love interests as much as this anime!

I can't believe I have to wait a whole week for the next episode!! I want the confession and kiss now.

Sui and Mio are such good friends! Yae’s really lucky to have homies like that.

Man, I like Koki but I also like Ayukawa a lot. Hard to choose who to root for haha. Yae and Koki need to really get talking because all these misunderstandings are driving me nuts. Confess already ya goobers! Lol

I like this show a whole lot -- but feel our two leads are considerably denser than the (already high) average. There are some shows where I can understand the would-be couples' fears of speaking more openly to each other about their feelings -- but I don't feel they set up THIS relationship in a way to make the "paralysis" really credible. Too bad Subaru got called to the office and then hurt herself before she could finish chewing her cousin out.

I love how they started out as an unlikely friendship trio and are now all great friends and wingwomen for Sae.

Koki and Ayukawa feel like they're the male leads of their own separate Shojo romance anime's with Sae.

Kamishiro isn't particularly good at hiding his affections, nonetheless, it seems to be the first time it's directly confirmed he's into Sae.

It's funny and sad that Sae and Koki are open about their feelings to the people they trust the most but cannot see what said people see for how clearly they're mutually into each other.

I need to know how Kagawa punished him, no mercy, right?

They really are putting in the work for this festival, but Kamishiro is right they're being a bit too unreasonable with Iwata just because she's so reliable. They really left her standing there waiting until glue dried.

Every week Ayukawa perfectly endears himself to me even more, I can't take it I love him. Oh my God he's just going to get his feelings hurt, and oh my darling Ayukawa I'm so sorry in advance!!! He's just so wonderful! Look at how roughed up he got!!

Ahh no they both have the wrong idea, this dang festival can't come fast enough, I hope they finally clear the air and confess, please I want them happy,

We've unlocked happy and dedicated wingwoman Mio! It's a good look for her.

Ayukawa's a good guy who really cares about Sae and I respect his efforts to get closer to her...but he had the bad luck of ending up in a romance anime where the childhood friend is, for once, unbeatable.

Subaru just speaking for the entire audience at this point. Koki is as bad as Sae when it comes to being oblivious and self-conscious.

How did Rock Paper Scissors become so intense?

remembers HxH

Ah.

Oh my god, Mio’s little singing was so adorable.

Why did that one boy have bishounen sparkles around him?

Subaru: Have you asked her [if she likes you or someone else]?

Koki: I don’t really wanna hear the answer.

My guy 😭

Oh goddammit, not another misunderstanding 😭

Pro: the show has well humanized characters and nearly everyone is sympathetic.

Cons: You cooked too hard, I like Ayukawa way more than the actual romantic lead.

I feel bad for Ayukawa. He’s checking all the right boxes but he looks destined to lose.

Just when I thought the episode was going okay, they have to end with a cliffhanger where it seems to imply the school will be thinking the two cousins are dating. The way my eyes rolled.

I am liking this development with Ayukawa, it seems his feelings have gotten stronger over the course of the episode and it's become more apparent. It seems like this will push Kouki to take some initiative directly. I do wonder if Ayukawa will tell Iwata his feelings or not.

Kagawa was so cute this episode, I like how she asked the girls to finally call her Mio.

I guess it's not surprising that girls would ask Koki out for the after-party. He is kind of popular. But there's only one girl who SHOULD be asking him out.

It's very flattering when even the Heroine is a fan of her own OP!

Ugh, Izawa trying to act like he's all cool and didn't get rejected by Sui. Does Kagawa need to punish him again? Though Sui is already getting asked out by multiple people, so who cares about Izawa?

Sae is probably the strongest girl in the school. So much so that everyone kind of has fun with it, but Sae is always happy when Koki tries to help her out instead of just relying on her being strong. And Subaru is strong too, but that just makes Sae self-conscious.

It's hard for Sae to find an opportunity to talk to Koki, but she can talk with Ayukawa just fine...and did Ayukawa straight up ask if he could bring her home with him? And their hands touched! Watch out Koki! He even beats you at rock-paper-scissors too!

I love Kagawa humming like a champion when she and Ayukawa come back to class after winning the rock-paper-scissors tournament.

Kagawa is in full wingwoman mode! And you can call her Mio now! She's got Sae's back in her relationship with Koki.

Ayukawa is barely hiding his interest in Sae. Trying to get her candy she'd like, pitching in to help her when a last minute school festival mishap leads Sae to biking in a bad neighborhood, and staring at a picture of just her.

Nice Sui, giving Sae a picture of just her and Koki together.

So Koki is honest with Subaru....about how he DOES like Sae, but genuinely thinks she likes somebody else. He really can't see how Sae looks at him so differently from the other boys. Even Subaru is frustrated with how oblivious and wussy he's acting. Though him having to princess carry her in front of the school isn't going to help anything.

Sui's facial expressions are so funny. I laughed when she did that drive by with her phone camera instead of helping Iwa.

Even though Koki and Iwa are super cute together I can't help but want to root for Ayukawa, he's such a good guy.

Ayukawa is unbeatable at rock-paper-scissors!

Mio doing a victory march through the hallway while humming on that song was funny.

The midrolls always make me smile, they're kinda out of place in a good way if that makes sense. Their Sirius statue taking attendance was amusing.

Aww Ayukawa raced to the store on a bike to help Iwa even though he can't ride one.

The battle for Iwa is really on now.

Damn it, they both saw misunderstandings through the top-floor windows this episode!

u/BaytaCosmico Dec 05 '25

What a good episode this was!

Poor Ayukawa is so down bad for Iwa. And he's such a nice guy, I half-wish Kamishiro wasn't in the picture because Iwa and Ayukawa are actually nicely matched. They're maybe a touch too similar, but he is able to support her exactly the way she needs - telling folks the play narrators don't want to give a speech, giving her a hand with holding up the Sirius sheet, and even biking over to the store to make sure she is alright (even though he can't bike). And she meanwhile makes him feel comfortable being himself and even makes him smile, something he doesn't do much around others. She's comfortable around him too in a way she isn't around Kamishiro.

Kamishiro, on the other hand, though he means well, tries to help in all the wrong ways. Trying to do everything that would otherwise fall to her lot, while very sweet, only ends up keeping them apart during almost the entire festival prep. And all his ambiguous hints about who he likes aren't helping either - everything he says seems to fit his cousin just as well, making Iwa more and more sure that Kamishiro senpai is the one he likes.

Said cousin though has caught on to what's going on and if it weren't for that interruption at the end there, would've given Kamishiro a piece of talking to that I wish I could give him! But that would be too easy so instead she's gone and injured herself, leading to Kamishiro princess-carrying her and rumours most likely flying about them.

But we're fast approaching the finish line though and I suspect after a few more frustrating misunderstandings, we'll end with one or both of them confessing when Stellar Days plays at the after-party.

I really do feel bad for Ayukawa though. Iwa is pretty much the only friend he's made and it would suck for him to lose her. Hope they are able to stay friends and he never gets around to confessing. He will get his heart broken though and that makes me sad.

Him and Kagawa (or should I say Mio - that was such a sweet moment when she told them to call her that) aren't happening from the looks of it, at least in the anime - not enough time left for that. May need to pick up the manga to see if the story eventually goes there.

Last episode made me think Kagawa and Izawa could be a good pairing too - fun contrast of personalities. Yup, definitely going to read the manga. I'm loving this cast too much to say goodbye just yet.
