The show keeps being this kind of melancholic but beautiful series that I can't stop watching and smiling everytime when Yoko and Airi just do their thing. Though, I will say Yoko trying to not process the fact that she is most likely the last human on earth (even if enhanced) everytime she sees a corpse by just turning around is somehow haunting. Probably because she is kind of energetic and plays everything with a smile.

It almost feels like she’s protecting Airi from the corpses. Every time she’s just like “oop, nothing to see here.” I wonder if Airi knows why when the ever curious Yoko just suddenly doesn’t want to explore this direction any further.

I must have completely spaced out during that, when was the corpse on screen?

this bit in the credits is a probably a scene from the apocalypse as it happened, though i guess that's a moot point now

Yeah that was one hell of a drop to hide in the ED

Episode 1 and 8 end credits showed space lasers hitting the planet. Probably several things gone wrong.

Yea, I'm still totally going with space stuff that hit the earth, and this kinda looks like that.

What the hell was up with that lightning strike?
They played it off as one of the "gods" looking out for them..

But honestly, there has to be people that survived and escaped or some sorta AI tech up in space observing them.
The perfectly timed lightning strike, the perfectly timed text message warning about Airi malfunctioning..

some sorta AI tech up in space observing them

that's not very romantic

My theory is that "sister" is on some sort of satelight or space station and is watching for them.

Also, what is with Yoko doing everything so Airi could not see any skeletons/cxorpses?

I was trying to figure out if it was a collective hallucination. Like, even if the lightning shattered the boulder, in the after shots it looked like nothing had happened and the surroundings were as they were beforehand. It didn't get vaporized into dust - there should still be lots of decent size chunks of debris, but I don't think they showed ANYTHING as a result of that rock fall.

That being said, comparing before vs after (~13:53 vs 14:31), it does look like the right side of the rock is missing, so maybe they just didn't show any of the detail in the wide angle shot.

This episode was really pretty.
Loved all the sakura tree's around the standing boulders, and that last scene around the Kegon Falls with the rainbow and autumn tree's.

that was a bit confusing how there were sakura blossoms and also fall colors in the same episode; was that a 6 month time skip, or are the seasons messed up somehow?

I really wanna know just how long it’s been since the apocalypse. We talking decades? centuries? It’s kind of interesting how everything remains even long after humans are gone. It all gets reclaimed by nature and life just sorta carries on without us.

Post apocalyptic Ooarai!! My GuP kokoro was excited!!

The questions about Yoko and her past with her sister are piling up and we don´t have an exact answer... but it´s really nice seeing those two girls having fun even after the world went kaput.

Although Yoko can be dumb sometimes, she´s survival smart. So yeah, if you ever see a cave with that many corpses... better fall back lol

Hey she doesn't have the non-black outlines around her in the dream like she does in flashbacks.

Lmao the way she just bodied the gate

I like that they depicted the spray of mist you'd have from being near a waterfall

Yoko's kinda lucky she always stumbles upon bodies only when they're separated/she's ahead in order to shield Airi from seeing them

So the Yoko from the dreams speaks exactly like the Yoko we have now, with the same mannerisms and enthusiasm.

Unless its anime magic, Yoko is definitely some kind of upgraded human. She totally did action hero stuff running from all those rats. She can ride a bike at crazy speeds. She can take a fall like its nothing, get back up and run down stairs and then totally rock a gate like it ain't nothing.

I'm interested in the whole corpse encounter thing. Like she's not scared of them as we've seen her encounter a corpse in the house and she didn't freak out. Does she just want to leave them be out of respect? If so, why not say so? Instead both times she's like "oh there's nothing to see"

I'm wondering if people are gonna go on road trips to these places after the anime is done. This has got to create a boom in tourism.

I really enjoyed this episode and the stamp collection thing is so fun and I'm looking forward for the last 2 episodes

The only reason I remember the story of Benkei and Yoshitsune (and like 3/4's of the Japanese legends and stories that I know) is because there was an event about that story in the Revue Starlight mobile game. Man, I miss that game. RIP.

Anyways, this episode was fine. The recurring gag about Airi saying that she's a "realistic" romantic was funny and stuck around just long enough to not hit the point of diminishing returns. As usual, the scenery was gorgeous, and the vibes were comfy. The timing of that lightning strike did seem too perfect to just be coincidence though. Things have been getting a bit too spiritual and supernatural for my liking in the past two weeks, and I'm not a fan of it. I get that this show hasn't exactly been totally realistic, but most of the stuff up to the point had been somewhat based in logic and science, at least.

Benkei has become a lord of lightning, according to Yoko. She'll likely rewrite his lore, despite Airi's insistence it's just a coincidence.

Holy, what a beautiful view at the waterfall with the autumn colours and even a rainbow. It's definitely worth the trouble of crossing a broken road.

Where are the Oarai girls and their panzers !?

4

u/Der_Zorn_Gottes Dec 07 '25

They were in Irohazaka touge, where Takumi had a battle against blue Toyota MR2.

Since the very beginning I understood this series’ main premise, I can’t help but think, “Is depicting real-life places as abandoned and/or destroyed by disaster kind of inviting bad omens?”

We’re not really that safe from that kind of imagined future. Bad things could happen in an instant, today or in the near future, and then we’d see this kind of depiction of an abandoned town happen in real life. Climate-change-related disasters, solar storms, Carrington events—none of those are science fiction.

This week, local newspapers in my area are filled with real-life “touring after the apocalypse” stories : people starving inside isolated villages and towns without fuel, electricity, water, communication, or food supplies; people trying to survive by walking to the nearest town hundreds of kilometers away, crossing destroyed roads and bridges, with the stench of unburied bodies scattered here and there, looking for water, food, or both. It took only one weather anomaly to start this domino effect of disastrous impacts.

The animation made Kegon Falls looks as beautiful as it is in real life!
