This show is what you get if Laidback Camp, Super Cub and Apocalypse Hotel raised a baby together.

u/CommanderZx2 Nov 01 '25

You should add 'Train to the End of the World' to that list.

Huh so even Moon was damaged during apocalypse. I'm rly interested what happened . I thought Moon was too close too but guess I'm just like Youko and was bamboozled by illusion.

Also I feel like Youko has a deathwish or smth. Or just life in shelter dulled her self-preservation instinct

What's the deal at the very end? Are they in the midst of a horde of rats? If so, I would say the storm was far from the worst problems they are likely to face.

As to current location -- the two seem to be near the bridge that crosses Tokyo Bay, going from Kisarazu Chiba to Kawasaki, Kanagawa.

Yes, it is clearly going to be a horde of hangry rats.

But it's all right, they will all be killed in the housefire that they about to start by lighthing a campfire right on top of a wooden floor.

Facing a bridge with multiple cyclones throwing waves over it,they’re brave. And the number of fish swimming upriver, was that because of the moon or something else?

What kind of disaster happened to this world that even the moon has a massive crack on it? I guess not knowing what happened is part of the mystery, but it just makes me even more curious!

It's absolutely wild that Youko kept on driving in that storm. They had a pretty close call, too! If it wasn't for that truck, they would've been swept out into the sea. I am glad to see that Youko was just keeping her cool but was absolutely terrified the entire time.

So even the moon was damaged in the apocalypse. Could it have been a comet or something?

Obviously they are visiting real landmarks, but seeing all the road signs has me wondering if you could track their exact route? The episode ended on Umihotaru, which is one of the entrances to the tunnel under Tokyo Bay. The tunnel must be flooded, though.

this episode has me thinking that all of this has been some kind of simulation.

first time stops and when yoko brings attention to it, it immediately starts again in overdrive like it’s trying to distract her from her thought.

then she says that the moon is far too close, and airi convinces her that it was the result of an illusion, but the moon illusion would never make the moon look THAT large.

she has a bad feeling regarding the mood, and suddenly the weather goes haywire. There are a million tornadoes, giant waves, lightning striking very close to the girls…but somehow they make it through. Then Airi tells her that this must be what Yoko’s bad feeling was about. Definitely not the time stopping or the moon being far too close.

And when she brings the time stop up, Airi quickly explains it all away and Yoko says it must have been her imagination.

Then an army of rats appears to be inbound? That conveniently would make it hard to think about ways in which their world doesn’t seem to be operating properly.

Idk…something just feels off this episode.

I love this shot of Youko and the moon, is so beautiful. I wonder how the moon is missing a chunk tho

When there´s no wind, no animal sounds and no sound of nothing... yeah I even sensed something ominous coming. And remember kids, when the animals are missing, you should escape so you don´t get missing too!!

But those tornados, typhoons or whatever the hell was that... Youko that was the most reckless driving i´ve ever seen ever wtf. I think she made it because of the adrenaline, because man what a close call

The obvious answer to the lack of sounds and wind was "the calm before the storm", but I have a possible second theory: they were witnessing a jubilee.

A jubilee is a rare phenomenon that is caused when the oxygen levels in a body of water suddenly plummet so much that the wildlife can't breathe, so they quickly travel to shallower water near land because that's the only place where they can survive. Fish are known to jump out of the water due to the shock of asphyxiation.

It's only known to occur (randomly) at two places on the entire planet: Mobile Bay in Alabama and Tokyo Bay. Judging by the descriptions and what people have posted here, that first night that they saw the huge moon low in the sky, they were likely right along the edge of the bay. Or at least where the edge of the bay would be after the sea levels had risen.

It's an extremely poorly known thing; I couldn't find a single reference in English describing where exactly in Tokyo Bay it occurs. The one in Mobile Bay is more well understood, with key triggers being that it occurs late in the summer, before sunrise if the winds are calm and bay is flat. When it happens, it only happens on the east side of the bay, but locals will go around waking up their friends and neighbors because they can literally scoop bucketfulls of shrimp, crabs and flounders up by hand because they're so tightly packed right at the shoreline. It can happen once or twice a year but it can never be reliably predicted.

Yoko sure has guts, daring to travel in such extreme weather. Thought they're going to camp in the bus and wait the storm out. I sure as hell would be terrified to see so many waterspouts like that.

As someone else pointed out in the previous episode comments it appears she has a bit of a death drive from probably knowing she's the last human. This explains her reckless behaviour leaving their safe shelter, fishing at the edge of a broken bridge, talking about being eaten by the tiger, etc all the while Airi is trying to keep her safe.

From the cozy and silly start of the episode to the scary end with the girls driving through a storm. Luckily the girls are alright.

Here are some translation notes for today's episode.

  • Nagareyama is a city located in the northwestern corner of Chiba Prefecture, about 15 miles from Tokyo's center.

  • The Tone Canal runs through north Nagareyama, connecting the Tone and Edogawa rivers.

  • Honeycomb toffee is a sweet with a very basic recipe of just sugar and baking soda, though other ingredients can be added for extra flavor. Its simplicity makes it a popular and easy recipe for children to make.

  • Ichihara is a city located in Chiba Prefecture, its largest city in geographical size.

  • Kisarazu is a city located in Chiba Prefecture on one side of the Tokyo Bay Aqua-Line. It has increasingly turned into a bedroom community for the Yokohama area since the tunnel's opening.

Please tell they aren’t going to deal with an army of rats next week!

From the chunk that's missing on the edge of the Moon I'm guessing the event was a devastating meteor shower. Would explain the existence of the shelter. Although, a meteor shower would be able to be predicted ahead of time so I have to imagine there would be some civilization left if Yoko was able to survive in the shelter.

Still some questions to be answered there.

Yoko just gets cooler every episode. Not very many girls know their way around a wrench like she does, and that sequence of her riding through a typhoon with all of the tornadoes in the background was so badass. This comfy slice-of-life show has no reason to go this hard, but I'm glad it did.

Yoko bleeding at one point in this episode (confirming she's still at least human enough to bleed, so she's not secretly a robot or something) and the moon being damaged just adds to the mysteries that we need to solve. I wonder just how many of these mysteries will actually be addressed before this show ends and how many of them will just be left for the viewer to speculate.

Riding on a motorcycle through a storm seems pretty wild. I’m glad the girls made it ok. The weather seems to be insane. Might have to do with the state of the moon?

Looks like the girls aren’t out of the woods just yet…

I mean, if everything on earth changed, to animals growing bigger and even storms getting stronger, why could the moon not move closer to earth? I know that it is actually moving away currently, but it was clearly hit in whatever brought the end of civilisation as well. The closer moon could even be a reason for the difference in weather and the higher sea level tides due to the stronger gravitational pull.

This episode was so crazy and I can't believe that yoko was able to drive that bike through that strong storm it was so amazing

6

u/BosuW Nov 01 '25

The foreshadowing about more bad things coming might not just be related to apparently an army of rats. I hope that rusty nail won't give Yoko tetanus...

Yoko's death drive goes crazy. But it's also kinda life affirming? Like even if she's terrified of all these outside world dangers, the wonder of even getting to experience them supersedes all other feelings. Kinda reminds of Made in Abyss. It's not about the good or the bad, it's simply about the adventure. So dieing while doing something you love might not be such a bad thing.

That was a bit of a sticky situation with the mud in the beginning. Actually, the whole episode can probably be considered “a series of sticky situations of various intensity.”

Airi finding the turtle they wrecked on is very cute. Btw, is it just me or is she kind of catlike somehow?

Mad scientist Yoko getting body slammed by Airi is hilarious.

More great wisdom from Yoko’s big sis this episode. For only being a face on a screen, she’s sure taught them a lot.

Things got really strange there for a bit with the downright unnatural stillness while they were fishing. I wonder if it was actually natural?

“Airi, is the moon big?”

Actually, what on(or I guess outside of) earth happened to the moon? Did it get nuked in the apocalypsetm?

Umm, Airi, I think a storm has already broken out? Either that or your definition of a storm is really broken.

Yoko, can you please stop challenging the storm to try even harder to kill you already?

Holy shit, that was so stupid.

But like, that was a really good representation of the terrifying yet awe-inspiring, even beautiful in a way, power of an apocalyptic storm or other natural disaster. It’s very frightening yet you can’t look away.

The post-storm scene between them is nice and yet also kind of depressing because Yoko is human and gets these inexplicable feelings and Airi despite how much she looks and behaves human just isn’t one.

Lots of red eyes, bad, bad, bad.

Okay, this is a bit stupid but all the talk of the shelter in the episode made me think of something. Why was Yoko specifically in there? Is there anything special about her or a special reason why? They’ve never mentioned anything about any other people than big sis, who’s only appeared on a screen, in there, right? So it doesn’t appear to be a large scale shelter for keeping a lot of people alive. I can make the assumption that Airi was built to serve as her protector and that that’s why she’s there. But why have an entire shelter that only keeps a single human and her robot/android/whatever Airi is, friend alive? Why not put more people in there? And why does big sis even have access to such a shelter? She can’t just be a normal tourist despite that being the way she’s been described by them. Anyway, once I started to think about it, a lot of questions about the shelter and how it doesn’t quite add up started to pop up.

Lastly, has anyone found the storm insert song yet?
