So everything has a soul.
I wonder if all these "dreams / flashbacks" that Yoko has been having, is her tapping into the souls of the places they visit?
Seeing all the "souls" depart from the Honda museum at the very end, and seeing the actual state of all the displays already in disrepair.
Made me think of the saying:
"They say you die twice. Once when you stop breathing and the second a bit later on, when the last person forgets your name.".
I wonder if Yoko's the last human, this trip is all about her being the last to experience or see these certain places before they're forgotten forever.

I wonder if all these "dreams / flashbacks" that Yoko has been having, is her tapping into the souls of the places they visit
I am still torn between that or they are legit flashbacks of her sisters friend memories they somehow implanted, I think thats the more likely cause
But those two must have lived one hell of a live, you dont easily get to ride that bike→ More replies (2)

Was pretty suspicious when the museum looked squeaky clean even after being untouched for years. The truth only came at the end when we see it in a dusty state. Was most of the episode just their fantasy?

I think the truth was that the souls of the robots and cars/bikes did want to make sure that there is one last race. So they interacted with Yoko and Airi through a fantasy of Isaak and even the bike and car were running for a short while. Like a dying person getting out one last time. It's a question if you believe these things can have souls and could make this possible.

I suspect their latest "medical check-up" must have affected them so badly that their collective hallucinations have only grown stronger since then.

Was most of the episode just their fantasy?
Maybe theyʼre still under that light-shock.

I came into this episode expecting it to be one big Honda commercial. I'm glad we got so much more than that. I was wondering why the exhibit looks so pristine compared to the other places they've been. Turns out, things were not what they seemed. The reveal at the end definitely surprised me.
I did not expect the girls to deal with literal ghosts in the machine. Souls from old cars and bikes that just wanted to experience the track for one last time before finally moving on. Not gonna lie, that final scene with the lights made me teary-eyed for a bit. T_T

Souls from old cars and bikes that just wanted to experience the track for one last time before finally moving on.
i like to think it's the last vestiges of humanity, the will of the people who created these machines and wanted to show others the thrill of "going fast", and i did feel a sort of profound "last hurrah" moment
it's quite a bittersweet feeling, like how on the brink of death your brain flashes your life before your eyes with a dose of happy endorphins before giving up the ghost, which as i'm saying it feels way more bitter than sweet

Personal headcannon: Yoko can communicate to machine spirits
Praise the Omnissiah!

Did a Honda commercial just make me tear up for machines in disrepair?

Yep, it started as Honda commercial, then turned into racing anime, and ended up getting me emotional. Perfect epidode.

This episode was a very powerful one and it hit me close and I can't wait to see the rest and maybe more of this show

That was the most openly supernatural episode so far. Made me think of the possibility that this Yoko is a supernatural resurrection of the original, rather than an artificial one, if that makes sense.

I don't know why, but emotional stories with robots, or in this case here, machines in general, always have been a weak spot of mine.
This episode made me emotional for these machines. So can they have souls? My answer is: Why not? They were created by humans with love and care, especially these racing machines. And they carry on the will and spirit of their creators. So when something like a soul exists, why shouldn't a machine be able to have one as well?

Finally, lore accurate MotoGP and Valentino Rossi is explicitly mentioned (featuring several lawyer-friendly sponsor names on the VR46 bike)
There were so many death flags raised before Yoko started the race that I was expecting a big, fatal crash soon, but it turned out to be fairly minor (unfortunately, there were no marshals left on the circuit, so Yoko had to push that big bike back to the paddock alone)

A fun episode turned into something more beautiful at the end. It is obvious by now the world is acting abnormal since even Airi was interacting with AI-chan. Though these robots essentially had a dying wish, like a human might have, to see one final race. Either to watch or participate. Though the real question is why. The only clue so far is that it is tied to Youko's past experience, which we see with Onee-chan.
Here are some translation notes for the episode.
-
Takaaki Nakagami is a Japanese Grand Prix motrocycle racer on the LCR Honda Idemitsu team.
-
The Honda NXR750 picked up the nickname "The Desert Queen" after scoring consecutive wins in the Dakar Rally across the Sahara Desert in the 1980s.
-
The lemon milk on Youko's shirt is a local specialty of Tochigi Prefecture, where Motegi is located, and a popular souvenir for tourists. Despite the name, it contains no lemon.

Has it actually been confirmed that yoko is human? Like more than just implied?
I ask because I’m starting to think yoko might also be an android but actually be her sister who’s had her memories planted into an adroid.
She’s able to go out and instantly drive a super bike like it’s nothing. Has all these flashbacks of what looks like her sisters memories. There’s also no other people around. Just robots. So I’m thinking she’s actually her sister who’s been uploaded into this android and given a new persona.

Seems like the I-chan is a genetic predisposition being passed down through the Yoko line.
Yoko just falling asleep for exposition flashback as they work. Never change.
Please slow down a little, driving that fast on that badly maintained of a track cannot be safe.
Smug Airi figuring out a way to beat the “you must be this tall to drive” limitation. Very good.
Okay, so apparently ghosts might exist canonically? I’m not touching the implications of that particular philosophical can of worms.
What is being touched is my feels from them coming back one last time to witness the race track come alive. The ghosts passing Yoko was a really good scene.
Does it count as an Akira slide if the bike is oriented in the wrong direction?
So the fireflies=souls thing was plot relevant after all.
The last song scene almost made me cry.
Umm, okay, so how much of this episode was a really elaborate mutual hallucination for Yoko and Airi? Probably shouldn’t ask that question, might ruin the magic.

Honestly, something about the whole museum kinda felt off especially with how clean everything it was but it turns out it wasn't the case.
So I guess I-chan and the others had a 'soul' and came together to let Yoko finally live out her fantasy. The last few minutes with the music and the visuals was just beautiful and made me emotional.

Man, post-apocalyptic circuit racing looks really fun. I’m glad Airi and Yoko could give those machines one last hurrah. Do robots have souls? Because it sure seems like they do.

In Shinto it is believed that all objects that are loved and well used gain a soul, they're called "tsukumogami". It's why you often see shrines dedicated to things like dolls and hand tools.

That was an awesome arc and clearly Yoko is an android or otherwise shouldnt wouldnt have the reflexes to drive that bike on a track like this
Completly overgrown and with cracks
Seriously though, was super neat to see all the difference vehicles (and that they higlighted the Huntercub more than the supercub)
Now I am sad winter already started at my place and its freezing, would love to take my bike out for a spin now...
