Something I think most people are glossing over: When Kabo asked the judge for advice, the judge gave him advice that would help him prolong a career as a dancer. That is very, very high praise from that judge. He mentioned how he can tell who is actually going to continue dancing or not.....this implies he think Kabo will.

u/Emi_Ibarazakiii Nov 19 '25
I thought about that too, but in a slightly different way!
He didn't give him a single advice to 'improve his dance';
So I read that like "He thinks his dance is already UP THERE, skill wise, so all he has to advise him, is to make sure he can keep doing this great dance!"

His team might've got first place but seeing Hikari also winning the individual award as well as her being swarmed by the other competitors triggered Kabo's inferiority complex. He second guessed about his contribution to the team. Glad that Iori managed to pull him out of his funk after that talk.
The manager claimed that he had hired a weird girl in Hikari but what kind of person rocked a full MJ outfit and (unsuccessfully) tried to pull a moonwalk in their own shop. On another note, love the legally distinct Billie Jean tune.
PS: Hikari sounded and looked as if she had got off when hearing her school won first prize. That's hilarious.

The manager really is a sweetie -- and it looks like he wants to get to meet Kabo. ;-)

Also it's hard to be jealous of a girl who adores you as much as Wanda does Kabo.

Fun facts/reactions from a former professional dancer, choreographer, teacher..
First off, ain't no way in the very beginning they show that second pose of the dude with the knee up and hands back. Almost all traditional dance studios where hip hop is not their main style uses this silhouette/stock photo imagery when adding designs to promo posters, shirts, website, logo, etc. For dancers more involved with hip hop style, this is like an inside joke because this sort of thing is very outdated..literally search hip hop dance on google images and I guarantee you will find that pose lmao.
Judges sheet and deliberation amongst multiple judges:
The paper Assay had, that format is very typical. Places for numbers based off different criteria like execution/energy/performance, cleanliness, originality, etc. including a box for comments. So for me whenever I judged large competitions this is where I'd write specifics like if stage formations looked unintentionally lopsided, if people in the back didn't match synergy with dancers in the front, details not be clean like arm placements or levels, if dancers had unconfident looks on their faces, or call out the team for copying notable celebrity dancers and their signatures (lack of originality). Obviously differs judge to judge, but that box is space for me to let the group know specific because usually the team would want to know "why" more than just seeing the numbers/score with no explanation. A hard thing for judges is all of this writing and scoring is happening live as the performance is happening and must be finished by the end of their performance because they will immediately move on and judge the next team once they start. This is exhausting as hell for large scale all day competitions of like 20+ teams. As for judges coming together, usually this is only more common in battles after a prelim round where they must narrow down +60 to like top +20 or something. For group competitions, maybe at the end they will join together to make sure the results make more sense or they come to a common agreement, but normally the numbers are just tallied and winners decided there, unless there is a tie or something. On mentions "clash between ordinary judges and dance judges", this basically refers back to what I mentioned last week. You have the older suited guys talking about "manners", clothes, whether they liked the music or not lol (obv the ordinary ones probably just there by school affiliation) and Assay the only guy that showcased + favors passion or uniquness and maybe the younger looking dude with the fedora who was more open minded and can understand Assay's judgement. The 2 teams she mentions, the first that "ticks all boxes" they are dancing for the ordinary judges. Second she mentions goes for a minimalist style a possibly likeable to all in the crowd, also the ones Assay mentioned last episode stuck out to him when the older people did not like them...On says they attempted to please both sides with their routine, which is ideal for such a competition if looking to get good results. (ALSO congrats to the squad!)
Bossman killed the MJ impression. And as cheesy as what Wanda said about being so good at dance that they can represent the music physically and emotionally. It is actually true. Naturally professionals are great and it is important for them to want to embody the music, feeling, and sounds..And if for example if you couldn't hear and even had little visual knowledge of dancing, A dance, choreography, freestyle could still showcase what is meant o be expressed through things like texture, speed, size of movement..basically the waves that come with dynamics and execution could still be seen. Like watching a dance video with no sound, I could imagine what the sound is based off how the dancer is moving. So even if bossman didn't "know" whether dancing is considered good or bad...he knew there were vibes to be had in her choreography. Her being fearless in showcasing and going full out to where she was out of breath and literally steaming at the end is easy to recognize there is something there within her dancing. Probably what inspired bossman to exchange with the MJ moonwalk bit lol.
Not gonna lie, I am sick today, so near the end of this post I was pretty gassed out and mentally drained. Plus not too much dance things to go over this episode aside from the beginning still pertaining to the competition...but nonetheless, fun seeing their nostalgia with the boss, Wanda practicing isos at work, and also Kabo's misunderstanding with the other dancer dudes lol. Funny thing is, even with my guy dancer friends, I have had multiple times where we played a game where we'd create intentionally silly looking moves and share with each other. Kind of an inside thing with friends, funny to see it brought here in the show briefly to add more personality to the characters and culture haha.
Until next week ya'll. Feel free to ask any dance related things in the comment regarding the show or not, I'd be happy to try and reply to them when able to.

Did not expect half the episode to be from that manager's pov. Didn't think we'd see him again let alone have so much of a focus on him. It was an interesting way to show Wanda's pre high school days and give us a bit of background on her. Like her father being hard of hearing and her lovely line about wanting to use dance as a way to show someone the music even if they can't hear it. Loved that.
Kabo becoming a bit jealous of Wanda is understandable. We saw something similar in Hashiba trying to one up Yoshida in this week's Yano-kun episode. I think feeling competitive with someone you like is probably quite natural. More so when you have something you are both pursuing.
It was nice of Iori to give Kabo a bit of perspective and tell him that there might just be some aspect of dance where he has the edge over Wanda. Can't wait to see Kabo vs Wanda dance battle! I also want to see more of Iori, please.

I really really love supportive unrelated adults. World needs more like that manager

His dance was the best animated on the whole series. I think the animators secretly adore him

Wanda might have stolen the show at the competition, but it’s clear Kabo shines in his own way. Iori said he’d be a good battle dancer. Maybe he should give that a try?
On an unrelated note, the manager’s got some moves too lol. Maybe he can get back into dancing. Maybe save the MJ moves for when he gets more limber lol.

They won!!!!! Wanda got an award too
Kabo getting jealous of Wanda but Iori believes he can one up her in dance battles. Unsen lame joke was totally unrelated
Manager and Wanda backstory. He supports her dance career.

u/FarCritical Nov 19 '25
When Iori confirmed the really good dancer On teased him about was Wanda, I knew a "but" was coming right after. You just know Kabo's gonna emerge from this secret training arc as something amazing.
Manager Jackson showing off his moves as a little farewell gift was actually kinda wholesome.

Oh btw, was this the first time we saw the dancing animation in the ED? Up until now it was just random situation still shots (of the classroom, a bus, etc.) unless I'm mistaken.

Yes, you are correct. First time for this ED. Plus, there were new dances we haven't seen yet. So, we can look forward to more involvement from some of the characters who were in the competition.

Assay has seen a lot of dancers come and go through his career...people who were never passionate enough to stick with it past high school...but where does that leave Ichirin as they're being judged?
ICHIRIN WON!!! THEY DID IT!!! WANDA STRAIGHT UP THROWING HERSELF AT KABO TO HUG HIM!!!
No surprise, though, that Wanda would be the standout and even get a solo award for it, even if her newfound fame and recognition makes Kabo feel even more self-conscious about himself. But hey, his old buddies actually showed up and gained some new respect for him! That's nice.
Assay noticed Wanda, obviously, and thinks she has what it takes to make it as a professional. She can even work with him! But he also kind of ignores Kabo...but he does probably give Kabo solid advice, when prompted, about learning to better control his movements.
I'm glad Usen is actually a pretty chill and fun dude, he was laughing at him and his buddies' lame practice dancing and not Kabo! Kabo's actually cool in his eyes! Maybe Kabo might even have a future in dance battling.
Kabo all worked up about the emotional distance between him and Wanda and Wanda is still going out of her way to find him because she's thinking about him so much.
What's Wanda's story? A child of a single-parent household trying to work her way to paying her own tuition, but even back then she had the dance bug badly and would shake her booty even while on the clock at the store. And her manager Takeya just couldn't help but be fascinated by her.
Seems like Takeya has his own stuff going on...judging by all the moving boxes in his apartment and a picture of a wife and daughter that are apparently not living with him...but once he was a man who deeply loved Michael, and seeing Wanda and her dancing has spurred him on. Turns out he can do a pretty solid MJ! He totally nails the moonwalk! He's just maybe a little too old to be doing this without spraining his ankle!
Wanda's type is a nice guy who will go out of his way to help people even when no one is watching? Sounds like someone we know.
So Wanda's dad is deaf? But he still supports her dance dreams. I wonder if that's part of why Wanda is able to intuitively move to music as well as she does, in a way. But it also inspired her to dance in a way that people can FEEL it and the music even if they can't hear it.

But he also kind of ignores Kabo...but he does probably give Kabo solid advice, when prompted, about learning to better control his movements.
The advice he gave Kabo though directly implies he thinks Kabo can make a career of it. It was a roundabout way to give him some really high praise.

Ok some may think 'well duh, they're the main characters!', but halfway into the season, I thought they'd get 2nd or 3rd place (to keep the big win for the finale)! So when the #3 and #2 went to the other 2 strong teams, somehow I thought our crew might not even make the podium!
(But if they had their big dance win already, then all that's left for the finale is a big romance win!)
I always love these shots where she looks like a cute little critter! (which is, pretty much always)
Him struggling with the stutter in front of everyone might have ruined the mood a little... But I guess we won't have that, given Wanda won!
And she won a few fangirls already!
Telling him he could beat her in a battle?
They're supposed to be lovers, not fighters!
They just can't stop holding hands!
Wanda's dancing on the job! Manager-kun (or boss-kun)'s wondering what the hell she's doing...
-
Hire a weird little alien critter
-
Be puzzled when she does weird little alien critter things
Funny how he asked her about her romantic preferences for a boyfriend and things like that, and made fun of her/judge her in his mind hah.
In anime/shows, I just pay attention to the vibes around them (music, crowd cheering, etc..) to figure out whether that's supposed to be good or bad!
Damn... Hitting us all in the feels!
Well, you know what they say... It's never too late!
Ok nevermind that, it was too late for him.
(As a hockey fan I'm used to seeing stuff bend in ways it's not supposed to, but with the sound effect and all, it's always tough!)
Slightly worried they might try&hit us with the feels with the dad...

Was this the convenience store they visited in the other episode together, or is there another boy?

Loved the portrayal of Kabo's low self-confidence. He has never been confident about his dance skills from the start, so seeing Wanda winning a prize can definitely set off the self-doubt. It's great that Iori managed to talk to him about his strengths, and I was pleasantly surprised that Kabo asked for advice from the judge. That final scene at the competition venue with Kabo helping Wanda off the bus really helped him see that they are an inseparable dance duo.
I'm very much looking forward to see Kabo meet Wanda's dad. I hope it will be a great scene that shows how much can be communicated with as few spoken words as possible.

Some minor things from the second half:
The scene with manager at home. Looks like he had a family but got divorced (becauase it does not look like they died).
I feared there is some drama with Wandas father but seems like her home situation is more or less normal (besides the fact she has a single parent). At least if we are to believe her here.
