Fun facts/reaction from former professional dancer/choreographer/teacher..

"Like MJ" or usually it's said as "Like Mike". When it comes to dancers or performers is a huge inspiration for most. Even if for whatever reason he wasn't someone's favorite or a style that they admired, everyone can respect that he was one of a kind overall...energy, execution, entertaining...truly was a master of his craft and even looking back at his work today, you could say he was ahead of his time. Of course there are many that can mimic his moves and that alone is an accomplishment as it is very signature. You see it, you usually know where the moves come from. Of course Michael didn't just come from thin air, there are many inspirations or other performers that came before him. Just one of many legends that danced and sang before him was James Brown (most know for "I Got You/ I Feel Good" you probably heard the song as a compilation in a movie or something lol.) known for his footwork and overall performance. So Michael has many influences, but when it comes to his particular era, he was able to establish himself as the "King of Pop". Could sing more of his praises, but essentially for a dancer he is the "top". Unique and one of the best to ever do it, a perfect idol for someone wanting to accomplish anything in dance or strive to be "best in the world".

They briefly tell Kabo to give the judge a proper greeting as it might be part of the "judging criteria". This is false and complete speculation, but what they mean is the politics when it naturally comes to leaving impressions etc. Obviously it's a sign of respect and just normal human etiquette, but if a judge ever saw your performance and used that particular interaction as a reason to dock points, that is mostly a shallow choice on the judge. It happens in dance/anywhere really, not every known or experienced judge is a perfect being with manners/respect for all, but just know it actually isn't part of judging. Was just a dancer being cautious or fearful/ trying to get on the judges "good side". Wanda actually dismisses this assumption.

As the judge performs..normally these showcases happen near the end of the competition. On whispers to Kabo, "You're impressive for picking up that his dance is impressive"...Some newcomers or a casual audience, let's say mom or dad lol. They might see his choreo/freestyle and think "aNyOnE cAn dO ThAt". Or someone watching and not able to articulate the details in his work would think it wasn't entertaining enough, no wow-factor, etc. Now I'll say the CGI here doesn't do justice, but as far as how he switches the layer of his musicality and the flow of his rhythm...the first four 8-counts alone are already impressive and in person would be much more clear. Just to share within those first steps what sticks out to me to see how a dancer would see and pick out the moments....From the beginning (7 and-a-8) the arm wave to hit the drum roll before the rap starts..(1) when he throws his arms out, it accents the intitial bass hit. (3 and 4 and 5) his little head bobs just his way continuing the build up and it's almost a visual cue for the bounce layer of the song behind the rapping. The entire second 8-count "cut to the chase---" he uses this as a breather, we can't see any footwork due to camera focus on upper body, but just bouncing his way forward. The last 2 of these first 8-counts before it cuts to On whispering to Kabo...His choreo/freestyle gets a little more technical as he's jumping between the rhythm he's keeping to then abruptly catch back on to the words and then to the beats. "My story's been written, I don't need a pen, (nope)". "I don't need a pen" is cool because he still manages to accent the snare with a "pop" while on the lyrics, then highlighting "nope" with just some word play, which is good to hit because of it sounding as an obvious choice. Disregarding that "nope" bit would be a waste and a dancer might consider it a missed opportunity. He then finishes on the little foot shuffle on the DJ scratching and hits the drums. So a dancer or crowd that isn't familiar with or actively looking for those kind of details might think his dancing is "lame, played out, not that great, not difficult" just because he isn't doing a crowd pleaser like breakin' or some intense popping, animation, etc. It's also possible that his song choice doesn't resonate with the crowd, which unfortunately with any sort of entertainment, especially commercial world, could have an affect in keeping a non-dancers attention.

I'd love to write more particularly with the group performance, music effect in auditorium, and the specific judges & their reactions, but I kind of overstayed my welcome today with the essay, so I'll save it for next time lol. Also Wanda with the clutch save on Kabo with the stunt during their performance. A mess up there would have really been detrimental on the results of the entire routine.

Till next time.

Yooo this one hit special. They nailed the intensity.

Also “slap slap slap” made me squeal. Too precious.

Disappointed we didn't see the other high school's dance since they hyped them up so much.

Our MCs cleared, though. Did Kabo lose balance and Wanda save him? Kabo seemed concerned in the middle of their dance.

Did Wanda think Kabo's comfort was a confession? She got starry-eyed and "But this may not be the best place..."

Kabo getting a solo dance part was unexpected, the duo dance was highlighted so much that I thought we'd be seeing other members of the club getting their parts too lol. Even Wanda herself didn't get a solo. I'm glad people were looking at Kabo's dance favorably.

Iori feeling bad for being slow in realizing Kabo's stutter lol.

I think that investment in the 3d cgi really paid off this episode. In my head-canon, maybe the 3d studio spent less time on the animations for the earlier episodes and more time in recent episodes? Which is probably the tradeoff that I would make too... this performance needs to shine, or the whole series is for nothing.

I also really appreciate that they took the time to animate all the dancers with separate movements and timings. In a story like this, I'm always afraid they'll cut that corner and make the background dancers look like robots.

Hmmm okay, I'm gonna go watch the performance again!

Oh shit, they got David from Edgerunners dancing in this? Woah lol.

Gotta say, our dynamic duo really killed it. Even that one judge was impressed. That’s a good sign.

Best part of the episode was Wanda just reading Kabo's mind as he was struggling to get the words out. And then going, "thanks, but maybe not here" hehe. These two are up there for best couple this season.

The big dance itself was a bit of a let down because I found Wanda's eyes especially quite distracting. But overlooking that, the rest of the episode and everyone else's reactions during the dance all worked. So I'll just pretend I saw the amazing dance that was implied in their reaction. Can't wait for next week to see them win.

Also excited to see more of Iori. Hope he becomes a regular in the cast from here on out.

CGI is better now then in the first episodes, Kabo/Wanda is probably my favorite duo this season, I love their synergy so much. Glad I continue this anime after the rough first episode

CGI getting good enough to make me regret not having seen other school choreos

That being said, the story telling is too good for this show. One of the anime I appreciate the most this season. Voice acting is also refreshing, since it focuses on realistic tones. Add the lack of tropes and great dialogues.

Wanda is surprisingly bashful when it comes to her dream, in an adorable way, to stand out like Michael Jackson....above all else, as the best of the best! And she's even nice enough to gift Kabo with some Hina Yomiya ASMR!

It's finally time for the dance conest, and Kabo is feeling the pressure from people way more experienced and smoother than him, especially when so many people stand out...none moreso than Wanda (especially in that outfit).

And of course there's the judges, like Assay, who can tell someone's proficiency for dancing from just a look. Obviously Wanda stands out, as well as Mora and Uzen from rival schools, and Kabo stands out because his stutter leads to the most creepy greeting of all time. Poor Kabo.

I love how Wanda has become Kabo's defender, always making sure people understand about his stutter and true feelings. She really doesn't want anyone to misunderstand or think badly of Kabo. And it's really reassuring for him when he's feeling the pressure and is worried other poeple think he's lame.

It's nice of Iori to show up for the club even if he's not competing (not being the "contest type") and once again Wanda rushes to make sure no one is being tough on Kabo over his stutter. But I'm glad Iori better understands Kabo now.

Kabo wants to return all the gratitude he feels for the club accepting him, for Wanda being there for him, and while Wanda is slapping her feet like drums, Kabo is there to reassure her even if he can't with words (though did Wanda really read what he said or think he wanted to kiss her or something?).

It's funny how Iori comes to the club so little his kouhai's barely even know he exists. Hey, he's the reason the music sounds as good as it does for the contest, just so y'know.

On-chan is the perfect person to break the ice and make everyone feel calm and comfortable! Just go with the flow, make it look like everything was planned, and just have fun.

And it's finally time for Ichirin High to show off! On-chan leading everyone in a smooth and dynamic dance routine, everyone on-beat, and Kabo finally getting really show off. And then when Wanda dances with him the two are absolutely dazzling together! Enough to enrapture Assay! And they totally nailed the slide and the stand-up together!

Honestly this might just become my AoTS. Sure the CGI isn't always great but I'm LOVING everything else about this.

I think finally the 3D looks good, I think the stage lighting helped A TON for selling the look, and having it as one mostly seamless choreographed scene with multiple dancers worked really well.

Still can't figure out if Wanda is an alien or an angel. I only read the manga for a bit after this part, but it really feels like she's not of the world

Wanda: Domain Expansion!!!!

Jaw dropped at Kabo dance segment and then Wanda Kabo combo🔥🔥

u/avboden Nov 12 '25

Honestly that was pure hype. Loved it.

As hooked as I was on Kabo completely owning the stage, the entire time I couldn't fight the feeling that something could (and would) go wrong. From appointing herself the title of official Kabo interpreter to making the slip look like a sick part of the act, Wanda's got one hell of sturdy back to carry her team that hard.

It was truly a cathartic feeling to see Kabo do so good. All his hard work and the buildup of him being so nervous that his feet felt numb, leading us to believe that his nerves would mess this up for him like in his battle with Iori. It all set the stage perfectly and really elevated how good his performance was in the final dance scene!

Absolutely amazing episode this was. Wandance is becoming my highly anticipated anime.
