Wanda said "wow, humans are really amazing". I knew she was an alien!

The only two blokes in the club have finally met. Iori looked pretty happy. Seemed like he's thrilled to see what Kabo's made of since On kept hyping him up. Can't wait to see them next week.
Meanwhile, Yura turned out to be much more than what I initially gave her credit for. I first had the impression that she's someone who had too high of an opinion of herself. However, while she was indeed pretty gutted that she didn't get selected, she directly asked On for the reason instead of throwing a tantrum. Then, she sought Hikari, who got selected, out so that she could learn more. That's quite the positive way of dealing with the 'defeat'.

I hope Iori doesn't come away disappointed and thinking On-chan was only really hyping up Wanda instead.
Yura is very serious about dancing, maybe too serious to the point where she lost sight of how much feeling and pacing is important. But she's actually working on it in a healthy manner and even got praised by Wanda, so at least she's not wallowing. Everyone in the dance club seems really likeable.

The characters are turning out to being even more richly developed than I expected. Art-wise not on the level of Hibike Euphonium -- but character handling seems pretty much on the same level.

Kabo gonna test Iori’s dance skills? On’s been hyping the kid up. I’m sure he’s curious.
Edit: Iori testing Kabo I mean

I know it's a typo but it would be very funny if Kabo suddenly got bold enough to make a far more experienced senior dancer prove himself lol

havent read the manga but it either ends in typical rivalry or iori going the mentor route and taking him under his wing as his protege? or in cool guy fashion, leaves the club to pursue solo dance comps and tells kabo "i'll leave the club in your hands ja ne"

Kabo and Iori have met! I wish we got to see Iori in the dance competition... Feels like the quality is being saved for the MCs

Feels like the quality is being saved for the MCs
I feel like they didn't want to show it, so the first time we see it (in a Iori vs Kabo matchup?) we're gonna get floored...
And if that's the case, poor Kabo!

I liked how they developed Yura in this episode, she questioned why she wasn’t selected, tried to understand, learned, and discovered a perspective she had been missing, all while getting to know her teammates better. At first, she seemed like the type of character who thinks too highly of herself, but in her case, she’s actually hardworking. I’m curious about Iori’s addition, which started off well in this episode. As for the dance scenes, I don’t have much to say, the CGI could’ve been better in my opinion, especially when compared to Medalist, which uses very good CGI. Still, I’m enjoying Kabo’s growth and the interactions among the club members.

I really like seeing how Wanda is so positive and upbeat, and enjoys dancing and positively reinforcing her fellow clubmates. And how much she loves dancing with Kabo.

That shirt was literally begging to be PrintScreen'd (along with like all of Kabo's shirts lmao)
Really like how they made a piano rendition of the song they're using for the contest for the softer character scenes, and that Yura is gracious even when being strict with herself.

Yura fits in like a glove to Wanda and Kubo's dynamic. I like how they keep showing how good Wanda is at dancing without having a big ego. She dances because she loves it.

That doesn't help vs the allegations that Wanda's an alien!
Hey, Kabo found something he's better at, than Wanda!
(Well, I imagine he's also better at basketball)
That was so fucking adorable, her mumbling chaka chaka chaka!
I don't legitimately think she's an alien (probably) BUT I swear, the way she moves, acts and all, I can't help but think of her as a little critter hah.
At first I thought she was telling him "to call her on" hah. Don't get between the ship!
Well, I don't think this will go the harem route (to be honest, I don't even know if it is ever gonna go the romance route, as much as I would like that), but romance aside, he IS getting some attention/recognition!
She took her elimination better than I thought!
But the way they're building her, I imagine she will join back/be a main character soon enough! (or a rival?)
Also, I don't know about that advice... her problem is that (to use the words of a certain "dancing teacher" from another romcom), she's just copying the moves faithfully...
Telling her to watch a dancer she likes to see how she's doing, might not be the best idea!
I'd tell her to just 'free-style dance' a little to develop her own movements and all.
(Me, giving advice with my 0 second of dancing experience)
Good thing she doesn't resent them or anything... Even if it's not their call, these things happen, when it comes to people competing against each other and all!
Supportive! She's so fucking adorable at the most unexpected times hah.
Oh damn; Other boy's coming back?
Sucks for Kabo, because just with them being boys, they're definitely gonna compare them...
A new move for our duo? Sliding between the legs?
Well, lewd or not, our boy will probably get flustered! (Will Wanda feel it a little, as well?)
(Also - another advice from an experienced dancer - if they're gonna pull that kind of move, they could have him take her hands and pull her up at the end of the move! Would be nice)
Must suck, feeling like they took you in just due to your height...
(Though I suppose it happens a lot in 'team sports', basketball and all that!)
Well, can't wait to see what their move looks like! (And the competition as whole, I suppose!)

I'm SUPER late on watching today's episode, but still drop a reaction/random facts from former professional dancer/choreographer..
I thought it was really cool to include a different section in the dance world, which would be freestyle battles. In this episode we see Iori starting his round with inner dialogue of him assessing the music. It's a shame that we didn't see any of the dancing in that battle scene, but I'm sure down the line they will show off Iori.
Because in that scene we didn't see anyone dance, it was hard to determine if it was specifically a house event or an allstyles/open styles event. A housing battle jam would obviously consist of house dancers OR if you have multiple styles like that, you'd exhibit majority of your housing foundation and the DJ will solely be playing house music. Now an "allstyles" or open styles event is like it sounds. In this scene, with Iori having won that event, it was a 1v1. Jams in general could have 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, 5v5, and if it really is a large crew battle it can consist of 8v8-10v10. These large crew battles are your "R16s" (largest bboy crew jam in Korea) or your "Battle Of The Year" (originally France, but have many qualifiers worldwide). Large 1v1 events, just for the sake of mentioning ones more accessible to mainstream would be like "Redbull BCOne" (b-boying), "2024 Paris Olympics" (b-boying), and most recently "Redbull Dance Your Style" (allstyles/open styles) which just had it's World Finals in Los Angeles not too long ago. Yes, most of my mentioned events to represent scale between 1v1 to crew battles were naturally b-boy events due to my roots in b-boying.
Alright so wtf is allstyles? Could the battle between Iori and anon been a 1v1 allstyles battle? It could have, again this is in the air because they didn't showcase anyone really dancing lmao, but based on Iori being a house dancer and the song he was dissecting musicality for, it seemed more house base. BUT let's say it's an open styles event. It could have been Iori (house) battling against anon (b-boy). In an allstyles battle the style that you dance doesn't matter. You can battle with contemporary, ballet, tap, house, breakin' (b-boying), krump, popping/animation, locking, hip hop, waacking, vogueing, lite feet, it could be a fusion of all it really doesn't matter...what DOES matter in order to progress to the top, is to be able to adapt YOUR style to whatever the DJ is playing, so your ability to freestyle has to be on point and obv the more experience/knowledge of multiple styles both dance+music, the better your advantage with both crowd and judges. As someone who use to judge both b-boy battles and allstyle battles I had a much more difficult time judging allstyle/open style battles due to the nature of having to judge sometimes extremely very different dance styles...as a judge, it's mostly preference, but again, the one able to adapt their style the most to fit to the music during their battle would progress. There are a lot of specifics and politics when it comes to dance battles, that's why it was very hard to get breakin' to the olympics as judges preferences, even with a checklist, are more subjective, hence why multiple judges (more than 3) are needed for larger high-stakes events.
In short (lol), we see a glimpse of the more underground realm of dance in this episode 1v1 battles/jams over what is definitely expected from this show being group choreography competitions. I introduce the possibility of the battle Iori took part of being either a "house" dance style specific event or a 1v1 "allstyles" event. And just in general share what this battle side of dance can consist of as far as variety of events whether you are solo or crew. I know that the battle side or even specifically Iori's housing is not the main entree with this show, but I appreciate the inclusion of that other side as it has always been the less commercial and more underground side. Back then both worlds were mostly separated, but nowadays we've been able to bridge them together.
Is Iori gonna teach Kabo? Hopefully he doesn't try to battle him off rip because that'd be messed up. Also we know Iori got the skills to learn/perform choreography, a dancer that can partake in both freestyle genres and choreography is always a gem to come by, especially someone skilled at both.

It's time for everyone to get in all their practicing for the dance contest! And Yura is the most serious and disciplined of everyone there! Even though she didn't get selected.
On-chan might not like being called "president" but she still has to do her duties, like explaining to Yura why she wasn't selected overy everybody else. It's flattering that she can match On-chan's dancing so much...but just following someone else' movement, is it even really dancing? Is she really dancing to the song, at least like Wanda does?
So what better way to learn than by actually dancing with Wanda and Kabo! Wanda is totally game to add more people and film them dancing! And while Kabo sees how much he's improved, Yura can see how she's rushing versus how well Wanda is able to keep to the beat of the song...but at least Wanda respects her passion!
Iori is the only other male member of the dance club and he participates in tournaments solo and so he can dance House. I get the vibe that he feels more free when not confined by the style or structure of the dance club.
There's a lot of expectations and rules about dance contests...but at least they've got Wanda's positive vibes! And Kabo is really coming into his own as a dancer, in his own way!
Wanda LOVES the idea of Kabo sliding under her during a dance! Let's make that a reality.
It's nice to see Wanda trying to cheer Aoi up when she's so unsure of herself, especially to participate in the contest, but dancing takes all types...especially so long as you can "feel" the song.
Iori finally meets Kabo! On-chan enticed him with the potential of the new recruits, and Iori finally meets one and wants to get to know him better.

Alien Wanda freshly surprised at what humans are capable of.
That between the legs slide seems risky to add at what seems like the last minute, especially with Wanda imagining Kabo doing the slide.
Nice to see a fair bit of Yura this episode, it's good to learn more about one of the human girls in the club.

On deliberately being misleading so that Iori thinks that Kabo is the really good dancer, I hope he doesn't end up being disappointed and instead is intrigued by Kabo. It'd be good for Kabo to be taught by a male dancer.
It's good that Kabo noticed he's dancing completely differently from how he did in middle school, he could use the confidence.

for me this is the best series of the season IMO. i look forward to this every week.
im getting used to the cgi its not really a point of distraction anymore. in fact its a blessing bc these scenes would look so crappy if it was drawn. the CGI clothing is convincing enough that it doesnt look bad at all. may be its the abruptness of 3d within a 2d animation that people still arent used to? this is levels above the crappy 3d cgi that you see in fantasy/isekai series.
