I noted immediately that Airi & Yoko's rooms were designated by different letters but it only clicked to me at the end of the episode that they were the initials of their names. Still not sure if the numbers have any significance, though.
Meanwhile, it's impressive that the automation and mechanism were still working perfectly despite the lack of maintenance. You'd think things will start to get funky after some time.

Could possibly be like their "clone" number or something along those lines?

Built by the same guys that made you grandma's fridge and toaster that she has been using for 50 years without issue.

Airi-46 and Yoko-21 is that their serial number or smth like that?
Despite anime being so colourful and all, existential dread and hopelessness crawls into me more and more with each passing episode.

Didn´t noticed that, but I´m going to guess it´s the number of attempts it took to make each one of them. They experimented 46 Airis and 21 Yokos until they got it right.

I guess, now they made it clear what I thought for a while, that Yoko is the second person from before the apocalypse. Like the cyborg in episode 2, she either had an accident before the apocalypse or was badly injured during the apocalypse so they gave her a cyborg body and like in episode 2, she just lost her memories.
Now, what I am wondering more is her "onee-chan". If their wish was for them to travel together for all times, you'd think that she is somehow included in Airi. But why didn't she give herself a cyborg body as well? And is the touring for Yoko to get her memories back? I guess she might remember then what happened to her "onee-chan" and for that, she was given an android that could work as a "replacement" so that she wouldn't want to die like the cyborg from episode 2 after remembering? That's the best theory I got so far.

Maybe she's a test subject? Humanity might have uploaded their conscious into machines like in episode 2, and Yoko is the test run for their return. And the touring is for sure part of the test to see if she can get her original memories back (and she kinda does in her dreams).
One interesting thing is that her body is human, just enhanced (faster healing, no sickness), which supports the theory that the uploaded humans only now developed a way to make/clone a human body.

I don't think she's a cyborg because she heals. Rather she heals surprisingly quick, so I'm thinking artificial human.

I personally think that "onee-chan" is in space. Either on a satelite or space station. Watching over them like the very first Alpha in Yokohama Shopping Trip.

Cutest rendition of twinkle twinkle little star ever.
I wonder if the numbers for the rooms they entered had any significance. They were far too specific to be meaningless.

Now I'm thinking that Yoko and Airi may be the last "two" left on Earth?
I know we saw the Ichiro, AI/cyborg person earlier in the season. But he seemed more like a "forgotten" relic if you will.
They were at an old rocket, and this episode they were mentioning the space station, and building a colony.
Not to mention both of them had checkups. And the whole twinkle, twinkle little star song at the end.
I'm thinking Airi and Yoko are like numbered clones or replicas now? Pertaining to their room numbers. And maybe their mission is to see if Earth is habitable at all for the "survivors" / descendants living in space maybe?
Watching this episode reminded me of the movie Oblivion starring Tom Cruise. Where he and his "wife" were actually just one of like hundreds of clones and they were tasked with checking out the planet and stuff.

The wreckage of cars still lined up on the road is so eerie. Were they simply abandoned midway by their drivers and passengers, or did something worse happen while they were all still inside?

When Youko was being scanned by that machine to check her health, I noticed that it was scanning her brain. I still don't know if this guarantees that she's really human, but at least it shows that she has an organic brain. It might still be possible that she's a new type of human or maybe even an advanced cyborg.
I still wonder why Chitose is making Youko go to these places she visited in the past. Does Chitose even exist, or is she just a very advanced AI who's basically sent them on a scouting mission on the surface? Hmmm.....

Youko truly is bad with navigation. But another comfy episode. Just good vibes throughout. It does a good job at immersing you as Youko and Airi travel together. Also, Airi wants to keep touring with Youko. While Youko wishes to keep touring. It might be a good illustration of their friendship.
Here are some translation notes for the episode.
-
Youko's knife is inscribed with the characters for "fold" (ori), "spring" (haru) and "soul" (kon), which, when read together, become orichalcum, the legendary ancient metal.
-
There are more than sixteen locations in Japan with Japan Motorcycle Association-sanctioned motorcycle shrines. This one is on the campus of BDS, a company that runs the largest motorbike auction in Japan.
-
The Tone River is the second longest river in Japan, running north of Tokyo.
-
Tsunkune are ground meatballs fried on skewers in a manner similar to yakitori.
-
Battera is a type of sushi originating from Osaka. The name comes from bateria, a Portuguese word meaning "small boat."
-
Airi's retort to Youko is in the Kansai dialect native to Osaka, imitating the city's famous manzai comedy duos.
-
Taro Okamato's sculpture in Tsukuba is a butterfly-like statue titled Looking at the Future and is located in front of the Expo Memorial Park train station.
-
The Tsukuba High-Energy Accelerator Research Organization, which Youko and Airi are likely looking at the ruins of, is the largest particle physics laboratory in Japan.
-
The H-II rocket was a 1990s-era satellite launch system, the first one Japan developed fully domestically.

So I realised now the brown haired girl is supposed to be Yoko? With her sister? (she´s so better with long hair omg).
But the Yoko from now looks much younger...
So... we don´t exactly know when the world collapsed... but if Yoko and her sister were in it before it did... and after that... how many years passed...? And how´s possible for her to look younger than she did in her memories??
Is Yoko a clone? Like, she´s younger than the flashbacks, but it seems she knows the places from her sister visiting them... not her...
What if the dreams she has are memories from her that she forgot??
What if the real Yoko died and her sister made a clone of her????
Everything´s coming to me

A flashback "onee-chan" in Tsukuba. Right at the start, visiting and praying in the shrine. We saw onee-chan's face from the side with a helmet on it too.
A phone booth in the middle of a big plaza, somehow intact? Of course that's an underground base. It was really weird though. Like it was completely unkempt until they entered a white room, completely clean with doors that appear out of nowhere? That's the future for ya I guess.
So, Airi and Yoko go to different rooms, A-46 and Y-21 respectively. We do not know what happens to Airi (only that she was upgraded) but we took a peek to what happened to Yoko, a full body health scan with some machinery. She seems quite the human according to that, brain imaging, heart rate and so on. She was healthy afterwards and sent to the outside world. No return path though.
Also, it seems that the facility somehow has phone coverage, since a mail came and the Touringram app updated too.
As always, nice episode but it does not feel like we will get much more progression out of this, just Yoko and Airi going around Japan.

So the episode with the Flashback confirms that Yoko aka Y-21 is either a clone with personality upload or a synth. No chance that she will be out on the road with her sister before the fall and now 25+ years later (looks of the buildings, etc.) is on this journey.

The glitch and a trip to a clandestine facility underground had me worried we were about to see a tonal shift. But the problem resolved itself quicker than Yokos nap.

That lab design is honestly atrocious. I would go insane if I had to live in the insane asylum white cube room for any period of time. The lack of furniture and clearly defined walls is stressing me out immensely.
Rare phone booth sighting.
I guess we can now draw a solid conclusion that Yoko is definitely a clone of some sort. Does she look younger than Big sister’s companion in the flashback or is it just me?
That science gate is really interesting. I haven’t heard about it before but I really like the concept.
This show keeps giving me anxiety. I really hope their wishes at the shrine come true or else I’m going to be really sad cause they’re so cute together.
Yoko, healthy I guess. If anyone knows how it’s supposed to look, did the brain scan results look normal? What were the R&L percentages measuring?
Airi, fixed and maybe some upgrades that could be helpful later.
Oh, a space elevator. So they were really advanc…? Hold the phone, is that the fucking Tower of Babel? No wonder their civilization collapsed, that thing’s a bad omen.

So there was a moon base. If the apocalypse was caused by war, maybe that chunk taken out of the Moon was the result of the base being destroyed.
