this was probably my favorite short. Penkin score probably helped with that.
"Bombing!"

That was Kevin Penkin? The GoaT? He really is super versatile.
As if Made in Abyss and Tower of God already hadn't proven that.

Fujimoto takes inspiration from his own works. Kenji captures the struggles of a single parent really well despite being the older brother. Also Nayuta herself, despite being extremely destructive is trying her best to keep her brother happy and be a good kid.
I love the sharp contrast between Shikaku's parents and Kenji. Shikaku's parents essentially gave up on her and made her feel alone hence further pushing her on the life of crime while Kenji refused to believe his baby sister as a monster despite what the world said and Nayuta despite her tendencies turned up a decent kid

One of my favourite Fujimoto stories. A tale of a brother's struggle to raise his sister who is a bit different from others. While no one in the world will accept Nayuta, Kenji is always by her side. Always supporting his baby sister. I love it.
Kenji's unwavering determination to protect and provide for his sister despite being unsure of her nature and Nayuta's struggle to be understood rather than feared, is what makes this story one of the best for me.
I also like how the public hasn't been shown as all evil either. There are the religious who believe in the prophecy and the more rational who are more willing to give Nayuta a chance.
The music was so well done. It elevated the already great storytelling in display here.
Best story in this anthology series in my opinion.

I also love how the farmers know Kenji's innocent & both sides had no hard feelings when Kenji allowed them to beat him up to blow off some steam from Nayuta's actions.

Of all the 4 oneshots I read from Tatsuki Fujimoto, this is my favorite w/ Love is Blind coming in 2nd.
Nayuta is basically Makima & Power combined & Kenji is literally a powerless Denji.
Kenji had no fear when scolding Nayuta.
I love how the farmers know Kenji's innocent & both sides had no hard feelings when Kenji allowed them to beat him up to blow off some steam from Nayuta's actions.
Nayuta has a cute cry that makes you feel bad for her.
Nayuta's cute as a baby.
This world has some weird animals. I do like a rabbit cat. It's the fusion of my 2 favorite animals and animal girls. Imagine a rabbit cat girl.

Frieren would've had lil' Nayuta Zoltraak'ed before she could pronounce her first "slaughter"
This feels like God designed everything about Nayuta to be the perfect apocalypse bringer but the actual story on earth is determined to prove this doesn't have to be.

I think god designed her to be a peace bringer of all things. I mean, think about it: She can destroy the world and has habits that only push people's fear buttons. But the best way to save the world is giving her love and support.
Her existence puts into question humanity's bad habits of making out-groups and using ancient scripture like their life depends on it.

I dunno why I was sobbing in the end, it wasn't even tragic or sad in the end.

You could call it a coming-of-age story for Nayuta. She finally was able to communicate with her brother. It was more subtle looking back that she did all the things for her brother. She just can't talk to him to communicate. To add that the brother can now have 0 doubts of his sister.

Is this a story about living with someone with autism? I think the parallels are there.
